england governor-elect. >> clearly bursting at the seams here. if we could have reused the building, we would have. >> the county plans to demolish the building to create park. however, housing advocates are stepping, in seeking a last-minute opportunity to turn the annex into temporary shelter for 120 to 140 homeless people. the man behind the idea is the president of garden city construction. >> the only reason we want to do this is because it's the right thing to do, period. period. >> the biggest challenge is a looming deadline. county supervisors plan to vote on demolition in two weeks. the demolition bid expires shortly after that. his plan is to leave the shell of the building alone while gutting the interior. the county says rehabilitation would be costly. >> you're looking sat somewhere in the 60, $70 million range just to bring it back to what it was as an office building. >> reporter: upgrades could add another 30%. housing advocates maintain the skill of the project would be minute map. >> small rooms, and not permanent affordable housing.

today the attorney for the defendant almena filed motion to set aside the recent rejection of a plea agreement in that case. judge james cramer rejected the deal that almena and max harris had reached with prosecutors claiming almena hadn't expressed sufficient remorse. the two agreed to plead no contest to involuntary manslaughter charges for the deaths of 36 people in that 2016 warehouse fire in exchange, almena would have been sentenced to nine years in jails, harris six years. harris' attorney told our media partner the bay area news group that his client will join the motion by filing a supporting declaration. now to the latest on our california wildfires. in the largest wildfire in state history, the mendocino complex, only the ranch fire continues to burn. it is now 67% contained. the carr fire that charred homes in redding has grown to 229,000 acres. it 196% contained. the holy fire in southern

california has re-ignited. video from a stationary camera shows active flames and massive plumes of smoke. no media reports of injuries or structural damage. fire official says the flare-up has burned about 150 acres outside containment lines. it started august 6th in orange county and firefighters still say they'll visit fully contained by saturday. today is not a spare the air day in the bay area, but this live look from our emeryville camera shows the skies are hazy and cloudy. so far we've had tejano spare the air day. last year there were 18 in total. in sonoma, a city council candidate believes racy photos are being used in an attempt to derail her reelection campaign. carolyn tyler has the story. >> thousands of people have watched this video. she is a councilwoman responding to an anonymous e-mail she received with a link to a

just days after they announce they'd were cutting half of their sports programs, the oakland unified school district reversed course and reinstated three of them. you see, they're all girls sports. the reversal comes after the district was criticized for potentially violating title ix, a federal statute that requires

it was sent by the diocese following several news reports on the purchase of this home in willow glen. now in that letter, th purchase of a five-bedroom home for $2.3 million. i failed to consider the housing crisis in the valley and the struggles of so many families and communities in light and a half crisis. he goes on to say when i retire, i now intend to live in a rectory at one of our patierish. here is a story that eventually led to him deciding not to live there bishop patrick mcgrath will retire in a $2.3 million home purchased by the san jose catholic diocese. out of respect for his privacy we won't show you the house, but we have a few pictures of the inside that were publicly listed when the home went up for sale. it's a 3200-square-foot home with five bedrooms, high high
