>> announcer: live where you live, this is abc7 news. >> parents in the south bay are stunned tonight. a san jose teacher has been arrested for an alleged road rage robbery. good evening, i'm dan ashley. >> and i'm kristen sze in for alma daetz. what's more shocking police found a loaded hand gun in his satchell in his room today. >> abc7 reporter is live at the school with details. amanda. >> reporter: dan, kristin, officers were originally here to arrest charles for his alleged involvement in a february road rage incident that turned physical. that loaded hand gun we were talking about was found inside of a classroom. school still in session. parents and administrators are learning much more about the middle school's new 8th grade teacher charles so. the 35-year-old seen smiling in

this mug shot was wanted in connection to a february road rage incident and robbery in san jose. at the end of the school day wednesday, officers found so and found a loaded hand gun in his satchell. >> of course we're appalled. it's disgraceful that any teacher would think that's appropriate thing to do. even a new teacher such as this. >> reporter: the school district says it only learned about allegations against so wednesday afternoon. adding the man cleared background and fingerprint check as recent as august 17. >> there was nothing in the record to show that there was anyhing untoward or anything we should worry about. that's another issue that would like a little clarity on because it's troubling. >> reporter: one parent who didn't want to go on camera says the news of a loaded gun inside the classroom made her numb. >> my kids are part of the class and it's not okay. >> reporter: she says somewhere in the hiring process, the system failed its students. she says there is relief in knowing so is behind bars, but there is aggravation and a man accused of battering another person and forcibly taking the

victim's cell phone in a road rage incident was ever allowed around kids. >> he's had anger issues. what if something had triggered him off, what -- there are a lot of what if's. >> reporter: so was booked into the santa clara county jail on two felony charges including robbery and possession of a firearm inside of a school. i'm reporting live in san jose tonight, amanda del castillo, abc7 news. >> amanda, thank you. new at 11:00, a canadian mother and daughter planning a california camping adventure had gone missing shortly after landing in san francisco. the two were last seen at the vagabond hotel in burlingame on subbed august 26. they had es are hreservations bt never a rind. san mateo county sheriff released these photos. audrey rodrigue and daughter emily rodrigue.

her boyfriend filed a missing person's report after not communicating with him since sunday. >> we have not been able to get in touch with her, we're rohr i had about her. >> the mother and daughter rented a dark gray 2018 ford focus. they planned to camp at multiple sites along the coast. if you know anything about their whereabouts, contact the san mateo county sheriff. >> tonight an east bay family is taking new steps to protect their home after a group of robbers broke into their house in broad daylight. the abc7 news reporter kate larson is live now in hercules where she spoke with the family. kate. >> reporter: well, dan, that's right. you know, the homeowners tell me who you're going to hear from in a moment, the robbers were wearing masks, gloves, and all black clothing. it was frightening because one of the robbers actually started to hit the homeowner while his family was right there. >> he hit my son watching tv. i heard, boom, boom.

and i come out. >> reporter: he was taking us through how a group of masked men kilkd in his front door tuesday afternoon and attacked him with a crow bar. >> he tried to hit me and after that he say, don't move. i will hit you and kill you if you move. >> reporter: he said he was terrified for his wife and 2-year-old son who were watching as the robbers ransacked their home looking for valuables. >> where is your money? where is your jewelry? >> reporter: he said he didn't have anything to steal, so the robbers left with a small box. >> he took the small box. i don't know what is inside. >> it's scary because, you know, it's so close. >> reporter: leah de guys man lives up the street on a cul-de-sac in hercules. >> i never thought it would happen in this neighborhood because the >> quiet. >> reporter: another neighbor spotted what police believe is the suspect's car. >> which was described as a new or model chrysler black 300,

disturbing new details in the disappearance of brian egg of san francisco in a gruesome case. abc7 news reporter vic lee has more on what we are learning about a person of interest in this case. >> reporter: lance silva, person of interest in the case of missing brian egg, alameda county prosecutors say he violated his probation on a grand theft conviction seven years ago. this, after san francisco police arrested him two weeks ago for financial crimes, i.d. theft, and homicide.

these charges related to the disappearance of the 65-year-old man who lived in this south of market home. police found a body without a head or hands in a fish tank. but san francisco prosecutors declined to file formal charges, saying the investigation continues. abc7 news obtained this court document, which gives an insight into silva's case. egg's neighbors say he disappeared sometime in june and that they would see strangers coming and going from his house. silva and another man were arrested in mid august after police responded to neighbors' calls that a crime scene cleaning crew was in front of the home. after the search of silva's belongings, police found egg's credit card and cash they believe he withdrew from egg's bank account. on june 1st, silva reportedly bought a bmw here at the auto sales lot if newark. he paid $5500. dealership owner ehab remembers

the sale. what name did he use? >> brian egg. >> reporter: everything looked legit. >> he paid part cash, part card. the credit card said it belonged to whom? >> his name, brian egg. >> reporter: when police showed up here august 16, the day of his arrest, they showed him lance silva's picture. >> that was a picture of the guy that purchased the car from me. >> reporter: vic lee, abc7 news. >> more than 1300 people have signed an online petition to save a vintage neon orchard supply har wear sign in san jose. it is located at the chain's original location on west san carlos street and royal avenue. the organizer of the change.org petition says it signifies san jose's agricultural and business history. earlier this month, lowe's announced it will close all its orchard supply stores by february. people in sunnyvale are also mourning the loss of a beloved landmark. c.j. olson cherry's fruit stand will be closing at the end of september. the owner says it's for several reasons, including competition

with specialty markets. their products will be available, though, in stores. >> a san jose animal shelter has taken in nearly 200 baby squirrels in the past month, and now they're asking for the public's help. it's a wild story. the wildlife center of silicon valley says over the past 28 days, 180 baby squirrels have come through their doors. august through september is when tree squirrels have their second litter of the year, but it is also a time when a lot of homeowners, businesses and public agencies are trimming trees, potentially knocking nests to the ground. >> if you find a baby squirrl and you feel it's injured and you bring it directly to us, don't try to take care of it at home. we have a very special diet that they go on when they get here and we find that there are big problems if people try to feed them things like pedia light or cow's milk. that isn't what they're supposed to eat. >> wildlife experts say most importantly do not feed them milk and pedia lite are harmful

only had some fog around the north baynd many parts woke up to bright skies. not the case tonight. things are changing. low clouds have advanced into the bay and along the coast line right now. temperatures really mild. you will notice many areas are in the low to mid 60s. we do have a few upper 50s in places like santa rosa and morgan hill at this hour. so not everyone is mild, but there are many places that are mild. here's a look at the forecast. morning fog and low clouds along with spotty drizzle. we're looking at mild conditions again tomorrow afternoon. and a warmer pattern begins on friday. it whatas a little bit warmer today. most areas were either below or at average this afternoon. we're going to be heading to a time period where we'll be seeing changes. let's look at the three-day forecast for your holiday mild to warm conditions saturday. september warmth shoal up. labor day you'll see low 90s. we haven't seen these in a while so it's definitely going to feel like summer again. mid 60s along the coast line in
