elections. we'll be watching, janai, thank you. president trump announced that don mcgahn is stepping down this fall. the departure follows reports that mcgahn has been cooperating extensively with robert mueller's russia investigation, but the president insists he's not concerned about what mcgahn might tell investigators. the president saying his administration does everything by the book. and breaking overnight, a jury has sentenced a former police officer in the dallas area to 15 years in prison for the murder of an unarmed black teenager. roy oliver fired his weapon into a car full of teens as they were leaving a party last year and killed 15-year-old jordan edwards. oliver claimed he was protecting his partner, but video of the incident contradicted his statements, and even his partner testified that he never felt threatened. look at the reaction. jordan's family calling the sentence too short but said it will help them find closure. oliver's lawyers plan to appeal the sentence. there's growing outrage in

new mexico over the release of three people linked to a desert compound where a boy was found dead and nearly a dozen other children were living in filth. prosecutors say the suspects are muslim extremists who were training the kids to carry out school shootings. but child neglect charges have now been dropped because prosecutors missed a deadline to hold a hearing that was required by state law. two of the suspects including the father of the boy found dead are now still in jail for the time being. we turn now to the emotional farewell for john mccain continuing today with a memorial service where former vice president joe biden is expected to speak. it comes as we get word that mccain's running mate from 2008 sarah palin has not been invited to his funeral. abc's marci gonzalez is in phoenix where mccain's family has been joined by thousands of people saying their final farewell. >> reporter: a first day of emotional services honoring an american icon. john mccain's sons in their

police are sharing is from the dashboard of the uber driver. 38-year-old robert westlake who is in the middle of a fare and happens to be a recent police academy graduate legally carrying a sidearm. for reasons he doesn't understand, the driver of this pickup truck who's been tailing him suddenly pulls in front of him. out jumps 34-year-old jason boke who just left this bar in dundee after a fight with his girlfriend. he thinks she's the one getting the ride. but police say she's still at the bar and the young woman in the backseat is a stranger. >> i say something? >> you know i got a pistol. >> reporter: when he threatens the driver with a gun that police never found, the driver shoots the man and he dies. >> he came towards me shouting he's got a pistol. >> this is a justifiable homicide all day long. >> reporter: police sharing these texts to the girlfriend where he promises to find her and beat up her driver. >> here's a message for the hotheads. don't do that stuff.

good people carry guns, and they will shoot you. >> reporter: this stand your ground law has some people in florida outraged. but police say that this case is textbook. prosecutors are reviewing it. steve osunsami, abc news, atlanta. authorities have charged a georgia woman with pretending to be a dentist for several years, drilling and pulling teeth and even performing surgery despite having no training. krista szewczyk is facing felony charges including practicing without a license, insurance fraud and forging prescriptions. she denies performing the procedures and says that she's a victim of a personal vendetta from the district attorney's office. prosecutors say she's been practicing for at least seven years. >> each one of the victims has different operations that were performed on their mouths. these including teeth extraction, including crowns placed on, and when those are done incorrectly, they obviously will end with infections and more like having to remove the

the man was hit and able to drof off 680 to the 7-eleven parking lot. multiple bullet holes were found. the man was taken to the hospital to be treated. no word on his condition but he was talking. the chp expects northbound 680 to be closed from alan rock to berryessa road for about 30 to 40 minutes. hopefully by 5:00 a.m. it will all be reopened. reporting live here in san jose, matt keller, abc 7 news. >> thank you. and more problems for bart this morning, officers found a young man dead inside a bathroom surrounded by drug paraphernalia at the bay fair station in san leandro. the discovery was made just tr not stion pic activity. few details are known about the man although they think he's likely in his 20s or 30s. bart has been dealing with ongoing problem of people using drugs at stations on trains and
