flipping over about 8:00 a.m., those are pool chemicals. look at that, we've got guys in hazmat gear that had to be called to the scene. i don't believe we had any major spills but a lot of caution getting this closed up. we actually had a pool closure south of martinez, for about an hour, a fluid situation there but able to open up a few more lanes, until 10:45, that's when they'll open all lanes this morning. let's head to the traffic map. things are slowly starting to recover. that's where the crash was just before highway 4, 30 miles an hour across the venetia bridge. a little faster once you hit highway 4. up to 30 minutes, reggie and then clear. to another highway issue, this siem in the south bay,time

the south bay. abc's matt canner joins us live in san jose. matt. >> reporter: well, reggie about 30 seconds ago i just got an update from a tech from the chp, they tell me there are no victims yet. they didn't have any details to help locate the suspect. they're doing a follow-up now. they do ask if anybody has seen anything suspicious an 680 this morning give them a call. morning commutes are never fun in the bay area but before 4:30 and 6:00 a.m. it was particularly difficult for drivers on northbound 680 in san jose. cars were being diverted off at the cap 208 express away exit. why the closure on a major freeway? the chp got a call about 3:00 this morning. a man said he was driving northbound on key road when all of a sudden someone started firing at his vehicle. he was hit in his back. he continued to drive all the way to 7-eleven to hostetler

road. he was taken to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. his car had multiple bullet holes. for chp, that wasn't the only crime scene. that's when they decided they needed to shut down capitol for other evidence. >> we need to preserve the crime scene and any potential evidence that may be located at that location. and we also have officers out. >> reporter: safety first, but commuters were stuck in traffic trying to find a detour around the expanded crime scene. >> we did find evidence along the freeway. now, keel continue to look for that and identifying that. >> reporter: san jose police say there were two other shootings overnight in the city. they say both of those cases the victims had nonlife-threatening

injuries. they also say all three of these cases do not appear to be related. >> thanks, matt. an east bay neighborhood is cleaning up after a giant heritage oak tree snamed overnight and lost a huge limb that fell on seven cars. now, it's raising questions about what happens next. live in pleasant hills. >> reporter: hi, reggie, you can see the huge chunk of the tree behind me laying here on the ground. it's quite a mess out here but the other issue is most of the tree is still standing. the homeowner now wants to chop it down. she says it's just too risky to leave it there but it's a protected heritage oak. so is it up to her or the city? interesting issues that she and her husband are facing after starting their day with quite a scare. there was a loud crack at 12:30 this morning and then a thud. audra kudd said she knew what happened. >> my husband and i both look up

and i went it's the tree. it's the tree. it was so surreal and we opened the door. >> reporter: a giant limb from this 350-year-old oak tree had snapped off and landed towards heritage circle. >> i was scared it was going to fall the rest of the way and take out my house. it was just really a lot of stress. >> reporter: it fell away from the house, and damaging four cars. four of them that belong to this man. >> i got three children, three of them are off to children that's why i have so many vehicles here. i parked my car out of the way for one night and a tree falls on it. >> reporter: some neighbors say they had worried that this day was coming. >> we knew this tree was going. my wife, every time she walked by, she was always looking up very kaccautiously going undernh it. >> reporter: the city of

pleasant hill recognized this old tree with a plaque and named it emma. the homeowners said they were told that meant they couldn't chop it down. >> i think the city is paying for it because they are the one that marked the tree and said they couldn't do anything. >> reporter: not the case. he says the tree is protected. that has meant they couldn't chop it down. they could trim it with permission. the homeowner told me she was denied several times. she was allowed to trim it only once. and the supervisor said the tree is the responsibility of the homeowners along with all of the damage. it's not the responsibility of the cities. and if she does want to have it removed she will have to pay for that as well. live in pleasant hills, abc7 news. the clouds have not rolled back and it is cooler. so what about the holiday weekend, mike? >> that's a great question

because we're trying to say good-bye to summer before it even gets here. it's going to get warmer that's for sure. let's take a look, everybody, at the golden gate bridge. give you an idea that it's cooler than yesterday. it's a degree or two cooler. you can see a lot. 50s and 70s today even though we're supposed to be in the 70s and 80s. a warming trend coming up in to saturday. you can see some 80s creep into the bay, and north bay. it will be even warmer this weekend as we get out there and celebrate. here's what i'm thinking you should do over the next 24 to 48 hours. while it's pretty mild out there, go ahead and do the yard work. don't wait till it gets hot this weekend. also, it's going to be a little brighter if you're out on the bay than this morning. and for exercising, it's clean and comfy. we'll talk about the 80s and 90s

1,000 tickets were given out here. this is the last chance for people in mccain's adopted home state to pay tribute. the final day in arizona for the state's six-term senator john mccain. after lying in state yesterday, his casket traveling from the arizona capito building to today's funeral. >> john mccain believed in our constitution. and he stood up for it. he fought for it every step of the way. he would not stand by if people tried to trample the constitution. >> reporter: mccain himself planning the details for the services asking former opponent and friend joe biden to deliver the eulogy. larry fitzgerald speaking as well. >> i'm going to do the best i can. try to honor him for the wonderful man what he is. what he's meant for the nation and what he's meant for me. >> reporter: this following an

national cathedral set to begin at 6:00 a.m. saturday. we plan to stream that live again at abc7.com and our news app. developing news now the san mateo sheriff's office is asking for your help to find a canadian mother and daughter who haven't been seen or heard from. they came for a camping trip. the 30-year-old and 10-year-old daughter were seen on sunday. they had reservations for a campsite near the oregon border for tuesday. the sheriff's office issued these photos of them. her boyfriend issued a missing persons report after she stopped communicating with them. >> we're really worried about her. >> park rangers told investigators they may have seen the mother and daughter at the camp. the two had rented a dark gray ford focus. if you know anything about where

and it will feel like summer for several days to follow. temperature, behind due to the fact we just don't have the sunshine. 70 in fairfield. the rest of us in upper 60s. so it's still pretty comfortable. look at this, we've got an onshore flow just about all levels of the atmosphere. once the clouds go away we still have high clouds roaming around and defuse the sunshine. 77 in san jose. we'll hit the low mid-80s in morgan hill. and the warm spots, 70 to 73 on a mostly sunny peninsula in the next couple of hours. we'll have mid-60s along the coast. partly sunny. upper 60s in downtown sausalito. even though it's cloudy, it's softer sunshine if you want to take pictures and make that walk. mid to upper 70s. along the east bay, very comfortable here. low to mid70s.
