16-mile-per-hour wind out of the ocean through the delta, up towards fairfield. we've got a little bit of a sea breeze that will keep our heat from getting out of hand but you will notice inland much warmer temperatures and a lot more sunshine. here's a look at my accuweather seven-day forecast we're in the mid 50s to 60s cooler this morning, everybody in the 60s except for inland by noon in the mid 70s, already warmer than yesterday and 60s, 70s and 80s at 4:00. look at that, what a great evening. 50s, 60s and 70s. we'll talk more about the weekend coming up a check of the traffic if there is any. >> there's not much at this early hour. we're looking at a lot of green here on the traffic maps. briefly had a problem in the vallejo area. westbound 80 past 37 giving you the thumb's up. a twor car crash blocking all lanes. that has been cleared off to the side. seeing a little yellow in the area. i think that will clear out in the next couple minutes. a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza that is empty today. we will see what time they flip the lights on, could be 5:20,

5:30, never. we'll see. >> never would be great. >> that would be nice. developing if you take bart you may notice fewer police officers patrolling stations and trains. >> following an uptick in violent crime the agency is putting an end to emergency patrols. abc 7 news reporter matt keller is live in the newsroom with the reason bart says it has no choice. hi, matt. >> hi, alexis. the recent stabbing death of nia wilson at the macarthur station prompted the police patrols but the police association president told the chronicle it's unsustainable. bart has been having all their officers work six days a week ten hours a day the past several weeks in light of high-profile violence cases. the chronicle reports they're switching to a leaner staffing plan to keep long term. garcia asked how long can people work six days a week all day with 20 pounds of gear on their uniform. bart shifted to voluntary overtime with managers looking to add four officers work extra hours patrolling trains and

stations and bart calling for ten community service officers to do voluntary overtime on weekendses. bart is looking at funding methods to pay for more safety measures, possibly raising the salaries of officers. "the chronicle" reports violent crime has increased 66% in five years. >> thank you, matt. developing news, san francisco high school students go back to class this morning. they had a scary day yesterday. they had to hide in their classrooms. >> the scare started after a gun fired inside the school. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live at balboa high school. hi, amy. >> hi, good morning, alexis. the school district will have counselors on campus for students who need to talk after what happened yesterday if they need to debrief how they're feeling after what they went through. here's a look at what it looked like here at balboa high school yesterday. police detained three kids on campus and police sources say the kid with the gun handed the gun to these kids before running

away and leaving campus and these kids gave police the gun. the school was on lockdown a couple hours yesterday while nervous parents waited for word. >> horrible yeah, we're amongst the parents who have stood outside of police tape outside my child's school not knowing what happened to these kids and whether they're safe. it's pretty crappy. >> reporter: by 1:00 police gave the all clear to campus and the gun went off around 11:00 in the morning at the school. but for more than an hour for those couple hours, it was tense for parents. sources say the mother of the boy who brought that gun to campus that she took him to the bayview station and had him turn himself in. reporting live in san francisco,

amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. abc 7 news news reporter amanda del castillo has the details. >> of the dozens of arrested made around willow glen in the last month, sjpd says ten involved a group of mostly young teens and adult victimizing the neighborhood since the beginning of august. >> the detectives have linked this group to 95 separate incidents over that week period. >> reporter: nearly 100 incidents the department said did not exclusively involve property crimes but police believe the group is responsible for a number of strong armed robberies and carjackings in the area. >> they're running from the accident. >> reporter: last week a teen girl and adult man were arrested in a string of crimes that put schools on lockdown. interrupted home burglary led to a crash and successful police search. >> the red car crashed. >> reporter: understaffing was a major concern. neighbors says their calls to 911 and 311 aren't amounting to

much. >> i think a lot of times when people call the police department their expectations are a lot greater than the service they're going to receive and that's just part of living in the city that has over a million residents. >> reporter: this recent break-in at the restaurant and catering highlights that issue. the owner tells me he made multiple requests for officers only to be told police don't respond to alarms. eventually an officer did show up and the police chief thursday says neighbors can expect bettr. >> given the appropriate resources and prioritization we will again respond to every alarm in the city, verified or not. >> reporter: police say a new law that took effect in january has created some obstacles in cases involving juveniles. polie say they are not allowed to question any suspect under the age of 16. this does create some issues when suspects are as young as 14. in willow glen, i'm amanda del castillo, abc 7 news. thieves have targeted a bay area apple store again. you're looking at surveillance

footage showing three people grabbing items inside the store at the santa rosa plaza mall wednesday. in just 30 seconds they manage to run off with more than $35,000 worth of ipads, iphones and mac books. after they ran out of the store one of the suspects dropped some phones and scurried to pick them up before finally taking off. the robbery in santa rosa follows a similar crime in walnut creek. you see thieves snatching gadgets and escape last saturday and targeted apple's cordier ra store last week. authorities are trying to determine if this is the same group committing these thefts. in the east bay two teens arrested in connection with this brazen cell phone robbery. watch a car pulls up to a 21-year-old woman august 13th, someone gets out and yanks the phone right from her hand. the victim is actually dragged and nearly run over by the car. she is expected to be okay. this morning, nbz news accused of putting a stop to

reporting on harvey weinstein and his alleged sexual harassment. a former investigative producer at the network says he was working on the story for months with ronan farrow before an order to stop the story came from the highest levels of nbc. the producer said the handling of the story was a massive breach. nbc is firing back saying the reporting was not broadcast ready. "the new yorker" ended up breaking the bombshell story. president trump will not be attending tomorrow's memorial service for senator john mccain at the national cathedral. he was a vocal critic of mr. trump's job as president. this morning a new poll reveals the number of people who feel the same way is at an all-time high. the abc news/"washington post" poll asks 1,000 if they approved of how the president is doing his mueller vung and thoughts on impreechlts. 60% do not approve of the president's performance in

office. more than 60% support a special counsel robert mueller's investigation. and almost half say they support congress initiating impeachment proceedings. big sur's stretch of highway is reportedly cracking but state officials say it's normal and drivers have nothing to worry about. according to "the chronicle" several cracks in the pavement were reported this week across the newly rebuilt section of big sur's scenic highway 1 near gorda. the stretch reopened last month after it was closed to traffic in may 2017 after being washed out by the enormous mud creek slide. the department of transportation says new fractures are not affecting the integrity of the highway. you are never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. talk about neighborhood temperatures. menlo park the cool spot 51, everybody else in the mid to upper 50s. let's take a look, we have 60 over across the bay in hayward, san jose 61. we're near 60 in the east bay valleys with 59 in antioch, san

ramon and livermore. san rafael 58. half moon bay 55 and san francisco 57. heading down to santa cruz it's going to be sunny and 75 this afternoon. however, if you're going to be out playing on the bay, we got a sall craft advisory. it's for south of the bay bridge and it will be a westward 15 to 25 knots gusting to 30 starting at noon and lasting through 9:00. all right. let's talk about what's going on temperature wise in the north bay. you can see a lot of sunshine out there and a little touch of fog during the morning commute. we'll jump from 57 to 73 by noon. look at that, low to mid 80s during the afternoon hours. as you expect in the valleys it could cools off 69 by 8:00. our east bay valleys, our warmest temperatures today and through the weekend. we're starting off pleasant, 62 degrees this morning, 67 at 10:00, to 74, get out at lunch and enjoy that. we'll hang out in the low to mid 80s for the better part of the afternoon hours. as a football friday night begins around 7:00, 8:00,

>> alexis. >> alexis. >> is her name. >> who's in the seat today. >> thank you. switching gears here to that horrific deadly bus crash in new mexico involving a greyhound bus and a semi truck. the ntsb is investigating. at least seven people died in the crash near the arizona border. many of the 49 passengers aboard the gray houpds were injured including a baby. one of the semi's tires blew along interstate 40 sending the truck into oncoming traffic where it slammed head-on into the bus. the greyhound bus was heading to phoenix from albuquerque. oakland police want you to see new sketch, hoping for help to solve a double murder that has gone cold. 20-year-old greg fletcher cook and 20-year-old terrance mccreery jr. were shot in 2016. police want help identifying two men captured on surveillance video seconds after the shooting. a sketch artist came up with these. loved ones are asking if you know something to come forward.

here is a glimpse of what they experienced. police all over the campus. three students taken into custody. sources say the gunman gave these kids the gun and ran away and they handed the gun over to police. the school was on lockdown for about two hours. one student described how it all started. >> hear a loud bang, look over, a hole in the chair, something on the ground, and then the teacher comes over, calls the security, everyone comes in. and then we go to our next class and they called a lockdown. >> reporter: after that gun wept off, parents frantically had to wait for their kids and word for a couple hours while students hid in their classrooms while police searched the campus. they gave the all clear around 1:00. this started around 11:00 in the morning. a source says the mother of the boy who had the gun took him to the bayview police station later in the afternoon and had him turn himself in. reporting live in san francisco,

forced to walk to atms and pull out cash. the suspect eventually let the student go and he was not hurt. police took bell into custody on wednesday. new details this morning on the excruciating long wait times at the dmv. the dmv's director says the average wait time at northern california field offices has decreased by 50 minutes in the past month. jean shiomoto hopes people will ultimately get in and out of a dmv office within 30 minutes. dmv has blamed the processing of the new real i.d. license which will be required by the federal government for air travel by 2020. in the east bay, the raiders will present a check to the oakland unified school district to help save high school sports set to be eliminated. the silver and black will give a $250,000 check as well as an equipment donation todent athle have been affected. the ceremony will be at the oakland tech high school tennis courts at 4:30. oakland unified announced a budget shortfall that would have forced them to drop ten sports

this year. the wildfire that destroyed more than a thousand homes in shasta county is finally contained this morning. cal fire says crews have completely surrounded the carr fire and stopped its spread. flames burned nearly 360 square miles of land in and around redding. eight people died. crews will continue to patrol the area for the next several days watching for flare-ups. on the peninsula, a search and rescue team arrived home to hugs and handshakes last night hurricane lane. abc 7 news was in east palo alto as the 36 members of search and rescue task force 3 arrived. their mission included checking 1600 buildings for storm damage on the big island of hawaii. the team included firefighters from san francisco, san mateo and santa clara counties. nice to see we're haable to help. the clouds are returning a little slower this morning that's allowed the warmth from yesterday to escape. temperatures from about 2 to 11

>> who knew you were such a "star wars" fan. >> not mean. >> it's in your conscious. >> it's part of the training. >> take a look at what's going on outside we're excited for that to open up and can't wait to be there. 5:48 we're opening the weather window on walnut creek where it's 55 degrees with increasing clouds. we're going to see a lot of sunshine today and the warming begins. a touch of heat this weekend in some neighborhoods hit 90s and temperatures will fall back to average levels for next week. here's a look at the cloud cover and up like yesterday it's completely out of the bay by noon. look at the coast, look at the blue pushing through some of the gray there. it will also hit the coast a little bit faster than it did yesterday. all right. so let's talk about what's going to happen with our temperatures. down in the south bay we'll start to see some of the 80s show up around san jose and mid to upper 80s around los gatos, morgan hill and gilroy. sunshine 75 in santa cruz and mid to upper 70s for the north bay. a lot of mid to upper 70s on the peninsula. our range starting to show a

summer tendency with 80 in redwood city and millbrae at 72. look at the coast, 67 degrees in half moon bay. little sunshine. that's really comfortable. 70 in downtown san francisco, 71 in south san francisco and sausalito. we'll head up to the north bay and some low to mid 80s here. it's going to feel nice if you're heading up there for an early wine tasting and mid to upper 70s along the east bay shore with oakland at about 74 degrees. don't forget about our wineries in livermore, 88 today. may need more shade there. temperatures in the mid to upper 80s that's where the 90s are going to come back soon. temperatures tonight 52 at napa and ukiah. fog again up across the north bay valleys while the rest of us will be partly cloudy in the mid to upper 50s. my accuweather seven-day forecast about the same tomorrow and see the touch of heat for sunday and monday as we try to push near 80 around the bay and 60s at the coast and fall back closer to average than the first week in september. >> good morning, mike. and really overall it's been a quiet morning. we have one incident to talk about and that is in sunol,
