thunderstorm spotted in kalamazoo, michigan. in kansas, dangerous driving conditions as high winds gusting up to 65 miles per hour kick up dust and nearly blind this driver. the storm wreaking havoc on college football's opening week, delaying games across the country. a fan sharing this dramatic picture of the sky lighting up above the stadium in nebraska, forcing the huskers to cancel their first game of the season. on the east coast, more rain. up to five inches in maryland led to multiple high-water rescues. outside baltimore, a man's body was found. near the rushing waters. crews are still searching for a woman after a boat was swept away friday. now a new threat, a tropical storm watch has just been issued for parts of the gulf coast, running from the florida/alabama bordero louisiana. current projections expect it to hit wednesday and be in the florida keys wednesday morning.

maggie rulli, abc news, new york. a weekend of fun on the colorado river turned tragic when two boats collided, tossing 16 people into the water. four people are missing and presumed dead. nine others were injured. the water was packed with revelers enjoying the long holiday weekend. on the california/arizona border. witnesses say, one boat was speeding on the wrong side of the river with no lights on. >> it is all too common that we have accidents on the colorado river. and unfortunately, in this case, no one was wearing life jackets. it's not mandated that they do so, but we certainly encourage folks to do that because of situations just like this. >> authorities say it's not clear whether alcohol or speed played a role in the crash, but the timing, just after sunset, with low light conditions likely contributed. and we're learning new details of a kayak accident which left four members of a family dead including three children.

eric frienman was killed with his daughters. the children range in age from 3 to 9. their mother was the only survivor. their kayak capsized in high winds on lake superior. all of them were wearing life vests. they likely died due to hypothermia. john mccain arriving at his final resting place at the naval academy. where his life of service started. navy bearers carried mccain's caskets into the chapel for a private service. just as battle lines are drawn for the president's nominee for supreme court. kenneth moton covering it all. >> reporter: one final salute to the legendary senator. the procession taking john mccain to his final resting place at the u.s. naval academy. people waving american flags lined the streets, a tribute to a patriot, complete with a
