of angel flight west are deeply saddened that this accident occurred and their thoughts and prayers are with those on board the aircraft and their loved ones. live in palo alto, matt keller, abc 7 news. >> thank you. a man who survived a plane crash that killed his husband and the pilot is expected to head home from the hospital today. this is video. it happened near truckee in july. the plane on its way to pyramid lake when it experienced a pilot with the engine. the pilot and one passenger died. the only survivor eric raptosh. he was injured. after spending the last few months in rehab he is expected to go home today. loved ones started a gofundme as he continues to recover. if you're just joining us, a quick update on your weather and traffic and start with mike. >> hey, jessica, hi, everybody. a look from our exploratorium camera and see what the marine layer is doing. it's pretty fuzzy out there. can't see the top of the tallest

buildings downtown. a little fog to contend with in the north bay, mainly cloudy through 7:00, temperatures mid to upper 50s. as we head throughout the day we will be close to average with a little bit slower sunshin 60 at the coast this afternoon, 72 around the bay and 82 inland after being in the 60s and 70s at lunch. here's the latest on gordon. tropical storm right now ind jk mississippi, notice the moisture from the gulf into alabama. so we've got about two and a half million people that are under a flash flood watch from the gulf of mexico all the way up to about russellville, arkansas. some heavy rain is on the way for these folks over the next 48 to 72 hours. jessica, reggie? >> mike, thank you. tropical storm gordon has already turned deadly. >> a child was killed last night when a tree fell on a mobile home in florida. abc news reporter maggie ruly live in biloxi, mississippi. maggie? >> reporter: jessica and reggie, things are much quieter now here

in biloxi, but last night a different story. this started off as a massive storm and authorities here in biloxi were not taking any chances. we were under a mandatory curfew overnight. the casinos and hotels were shut down along the coast. now it looks like the worst of this storm is over for us here in the gulf. >> reporter: overnight, a powerful tropical storm gordon slams into the gulf. packing sustained winds topping 70 miles per hour, heavy rains and the potential for life threatening storm surges. the space station capturing gordon as it gained strength before making landfall ka goal la. ginger zee was there. >> this is when the rain and winds start to pickle your skin. >> reporter: the lopsided storm soaking everything east of center from biloxi, mississippi, to pensacola, florida.

this man's windshield wipers no match for the rain in alabama. nearby dauphin island. >> winds over 70. >> reporter: accuweather battles surge and coastal flooding. in pensacola gordon turned deadly. authorities say a child was killed after a tree fell on his home during the storm. states of emergency remain in effect across louisiana, mississippi, and alabama. as tens of thousands of people are waking up this morning without electricity, and the rain still pouring. >> we've got all the supplies that we need. we got batteries, flashlights, all that stuff. >> reporter: this storm is fast moving and just as quickly as it hit here overnight it seems to be moving out of the area. now the biggest concern that as gordon moves north it could slow down and may cause flash flooding further inland. abc news. jessica? >> thank you.

two of silicon valley's biggest companies will be on capitol hill. jack dorsey and sheryl sandberg will testify before the senate intelligence committee. they'll be asked about election meddling. later dorsey will go before a house energy and commerce hearing. he'll be asked about how politics factor into content decisions, including who gets banned from the site. lawmakers invited google executives to testify today also, but they declined. in protest virginia senator mark warner plans to leave a chair empty during today's hearings to symbolically represent google's absence. today's democratic senators will grill judge brett kavanaugh about his views on abortion, guns, and some other issues. [ screaming ] >> it got off to a rough start with tense exchanges and shouts from protesters on the first day

of confirmation hearings. at one point his young daughters had to leave the room. yesterday kavanaugh defended his independence. >> i'm not a pro-prosecution or pro-defense judge. i am a pro-law judge. >> the trump administration claimed executive privilege and blocked the release of tens of thousands of documents from kavanaugh's time as a key aide in the george w. bush white house. democrats say they cannot evaluate the nominee without that evidence. new this morning, a warning to be aware of your surroundings. lafayette police are looking for two mass suspect who tried to grab a woman. it happened on mt. diablo boulevard just before 4:30 yesterday morning. police say the woman was walking to the lafayette bart station when two people pulled up in a dark car, one got out and tried to pull her in. she was able to get away. the two suspects took off. santa cruz police want to find this man. they say someone who looks like a sketch followed a 14-year-old

girl on the west side of town friday. he tried to get her to go into his car twice. she ran away. a surveillance camera captured this picture of his car and police say it does appear to be a nissan altima. a southern california couple faces felony charges after deputies say they got carjacked -- or carjacked an uber driver. authority says the couple ordered the ride back to their hotel in the city after a night of drinking in sausalito. investigators say the woman passenger started assaulting the driver by pulling her hair and ears. the driver stopped the car and got out. authorities say the male passenger jumped into the driver's seat and took off with the uber. >> the police put the vehicle into the stolen property system. a short time later san francisco police department located the vehicle. >> officers found it ditched in front of the w hotel where the couple was staying. uber says the company has removed the riders from the app

and that couple faces carjacking and robbery charges. they have bailed out of jail and left the hotel. new this morning, the chp arrested more than 1,000 drivers for suspected d ui over labor day weekend. >> the numbers from the labor day maximum enforcement period they say nearly two dozen died in crashes. the agency says that is up slightly from last year. you are never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. here's a look at some temperatures along the east bay shore. good morning, union city and hayward. you are at 60 and 61. everybody else about 57. orenda to 59 in oakland and alameda. a look in the north bay because i'm seeing a little fog develop around santa rosa. visibility 10 the roads will be quiet weather wise. maybe a little mist near the

coast. especially places like half moon bay and pacifica and daly city. ferry ride, light breezes today. mass transit cool to kind of comfortable. not as warm as it was yesterday. especially inland. here's a look at san francisco. it's going to be hard to escape the 50s but we will during the afternoon hours when the clouds finally do open up. we'll have some mid 60s around downtown, low 60s as you head towards the coast. we'll be back in the 50s early during the evening hours. east bay valleys nothing too hot here. waking up 59 with increasing clouds this morning. sunshine by noon and 76. hanging out in the low to mid 80s for the afternoon hours. down to 66 by 8:00. and for the peninsula, we're looking at cloudy conditions through at least 9:00. mostly cloudy at 10:00. and then mostly sunny by noon. 67. we'll hang out in the low to mid 70s during the afternoon hours. want to bring in alexis and take a look at your early morning commute. hopefully it's not too busy yet. >> it's not. but we have a sig alert already this morning. >> oh. >> we'll take you up to napa

emeryville, and santa rosa. apple stores in san francisco are taking extra precaution hiring uniformed police officers to keep watch. the president of the san francisco police officers association says it's no coincidence stores in the marina and union square are not been targeted. >> it's a deterrent when they are casing these locations whether or not they're going to go in and steal the products. >> officers are paid overtime to work these assignments outside of their regularly scheduled shifts. montoya says smaller cities may not have enough officers to provide the extra security. this morning there's another step in facebook's ongoing expansion. >> the latest building of its menlo park headquarters is complete. the social networking companies released images of mpk-29. it features an open work space. facebook says it's designe sterolboon teamanlso has quiet work

and saturday and then back to average starting sunday. it's kind of a roller coaster forecast right now. here's a look at the cloud cover. you can see even by noon there's still plenty of clouds around the bay and by about 1, 1:30 it finally clears out and all the clouds at the coast and that's where they'll stay for the afternoon and early evening hours. temperatures not quite as big a spread in the south bay. upper 70s to near 80. milpitas the cool spot. try to get to 90s in gilroy. 69 in millbrae, 72 to 75 your spread on the peninsula. low 60s along the coast and mid to upper 60s for downtown and south san francisco and sausalito. around 65 to 67 degrees. upper 70s to low 80s through the north bay valleys. along the east bay shore 70 to 75. very comfortable there. as you move inland pretty comfortable here too considering it's september we're going to have mid to upper 80s there. as far as our temperatures tonight, low to mid 50s with cloud cover. my accuweather seven-day forecast, mid 90s by friday, low

80s around the bay and mid 60s at the coast. that's as warm as it gets the next seven days. >> good morning. overall, we're off to a fairly quiet start and looking at one of the busiest areas a little later in the morning yesterday. southbound 680 in walnut creek, boy we saw everyone back at it here, back to work and back to school after at least the long labor day weekend and maybe for the entire summer break. back to reality here this morning. same thing goes for tracy, westbound 205, 16 miles an hour, 15 miles an hour on 580. that is filling in and slowing down. hearing about a new problem in oakland. we'll check that out next. speaking of transportation, muni wants to make it easier to find out when the next bus is company. the board of directors got proposals to update the next bus service called next muni. in san francisco the system allows you to check bus arrivals in real time. officials say tracking technology has come a long way since that software rolled out 20 years ago. the agency says it wants to find

accuweather forecast. a lot of talk on social media about kind of how cool it was this summer. we only had four days of 100 degree highs around concord, two in livermore, one in santa rosa and napa and san jose, none. we could have a few more this month, though. keep it here. we'll let you know. new school year and new rules for thousands of fraternities across the country. they'll no longer be allowed to serve hard alcohol. the north american fraternity conference approved the ban that applies to 6100 chapters on 800 college campuses. the rule after the alcohol-related deaths two of pledges last year. fraternities will only be able to serve hard alcohol if they bring in a licensed third-party vendor. it's getting busier at sfo. san francisco international airport has set a passenger record for the seventh straight year. the airport reported 57.8 million travelers over the last
