live where you ab news. >> the bomb squad out in full force this morning in san francisco. a suspicious package in the richmond district forces streets to closed'd and neighbors to avoid the area. thanks for joining us. i'm kristen sze. muni was rerouted during the closure this morning. amy hollyfield is live at fourth and cabrillo. >> reporter: hi, good morning, kristen. the bomb squad has given the all clear. people are now free to move about this neighborhood. everything looks normal again. here is what it looked like, though, just within the past hour. you can see, the blocks were shut down. there were two packages at fifth and cabrillo, in sfan francisco

one marked hazardous, and flammable. police blocked off the intersection and took the perimeter out a block in each direction and brought in the bomb squad to investigate. they say they got the call around 9:00 this morning. they were here for a little more than an hour. while residents stopped to watch and wonder what was going on. police gave the all clear. the captain told us about when a they found. >> the metal box contained absolutely nothing. and then there was another package that was nearby that contained some radio equipment, so it's always better to err on the side of caution and do all this and make sure it's safe for the community. >> surprised to see it was such a big deal, but i'm glad they checked it. just to make sure it wasn't something awful. yeah, now it's clear. i'm going to go home and go to bed. >> reporter: police tell me they don't think this was a hoax. just some boxes that were discarded on the sidewalk.

the captain did say people should be careful, think twice about what you leave behind. when you leave a box behind that's labeled with those words, police are going to have to check it out. live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> amy, thank you zblch. developing this morning the city of oakland plans to sue the nfl and raiders over the team's mo move to las vegas, a move that could result in the team leafing one year early. the "chronicle" reports they're expected to file the antitrust lawsuit within days agreed upon by the city without consent of the committee. if it's sealed or if it's filed the team will not sign a contract to remain in oakland another year. a council member said danls could reach a half billion dollars. two social media giants are defending what they're doing to stop foreign hackers from impacting the upcoming november elections here in the u.s. this morning, twitter ceo jack dorsey and facebook's second in command, sheryl sandberg, both appeared at a senate hearing on

capitol hill. google executives did not speak before the intelligence committee. both twitter and facebook talked about what they're doing to prevent a repeat of 2016 election hacking by russia. >> we're removing e ining 200% . we're evaluating 8 million to million suspicious accounts a s every week. >> making progress on face news, getting rid of the incentives that create it end limiting the distribution it gets on facebook. >> one quarter of u.s. facebook users deleted the app from their phone. the pew research center found this following scandals on facebook abused users' personal information. new at 11:00, vermont senator bernie sanders and south bay congressman are introducing what they're calling an anti-corporate welfare bill today. this is video tweeted by sanders. the legislation will place a 100% tax on large corporations equal to the amount of federal

benefits received by their wage workers. sanders has criticized companies especially amazon claiming they don't pay their workers a living wage. amazon has called sanders' attack inaccurate and misleading. this morning the white house denying bombshell claims in a new book that paints the president as uncontrollable and a danger to national security. the book "fear" written by respected journalist bob wo woodward portrays the white house ton the blink of a nervou breakdown but claims it's no more than fabrication. >> reporter: abc news obtained an advanced copy of "fear," written by bob woodward and points a picture of white house aides struggling to rein in president trump trying to prevent him from making catastrophic mistakes. among the claims, former chief economic adviser gary cohn allegedly swiped sensitive papers off the oval office desk to keep the president from seeing them reportedly saying,

"got to protect the country." after a discussion about strategy on the korean peninsula, according to the book, defense secretary james mattis told associates the president, "has the understanding of a fifth or sixth grader" and once during a meeting woodward says chief of staff john kelly called the president an idiot saying, "it's pointless to try to convince him or fig. he's gone off the rails. we're in crazy town." of his embattled attorney general jeff sessions, according to the book the president reportedly said, "this guy is mentally retarded, he's this dumb southerner." >> he may have hundreds of hours of tapes but most come from disgruntled former employees. a lot of anonymous sources. >> reporter: the veteran journalist doesn't name sources but conducted hundreds of hours of interviews with firsthand witnesses and released a conversation he had with the president after the book was written. >> i never got a call, never got a message. what did you ask about speaking to me? >> well, about six people. you know -- >> they don't know me.

for several counties in south alabama, and the florida panhandle. more than 40,000 are still without power. meantime, there's yet another system that we're track iing. florence, mike? >> yeah, florence out in the atlantic. this is becoming the height of the hurricane season. let's take you there and we'll go on down to show you what's going on. started out 24 hours ago as a category 1. 7 4 mile per hour winds. it definitely spun up. now it's a category 3. major hurricane with 125 mile per hour winds. right now it's a fish storm. moving to the northwest at about 13 miles per hour. as you look over the next 120 hours or so, which takes us up to monday morning at 5:00, it is still well out over the ocean. right now, see that mass of gray you see along the eastern seaboard? that's a cold front. that fingers crossed will keep florence away from east coast. it will recurve it up to the north and eventually back off to the east. for us coming back home, you can see a lot of gray out there still. temperatures up to 5 to 6

with the focus on providing a supportive place for working women especially mothers as they seek to balance their work and family lives. the city says a proposal mostly limits the use of paying members and membership is limited. making it more of a private club than community center. neighbors say myers has been using the property to throw big holiday parties. >> this is her way to have all of her people over, all her friends over, to throw her a party. even though she's trying to open it up and saying, heys this is for them. >> reporter: myers says 150 people would be anticipated to use the facilities on average throughout the day with a maximum of 300. special events during the evenings or weekends could bring in up to 400 people. neighbors we spoke with say they're concerned about parking, traffic, and the noise. >> it's going to be destructive, anyway. the school across the street, everything else, we don't need it. >> reporter: a study session with the city council is scheduleded for september 10th. that's expected to be postponed until october. if you want details of the plan on the new facility that's going

take a look at the scene out of downtown dallas this morning. police say a man intentionally rammed his pickup through a local tv station's building. it happened actually during a live newscast. thankfully, no one was hurt. officials say after the man crashed, he jumped out of the pickup and began ranting and scattering paper everywhere. he was arrested. the bomb squad responded because the man had a suspicious bag with him but the all clear was later given. new at 11:00, amazon ceo jeff bezos made his largest political contribution ever. he contributed $10 million to with honor, a nonpartisan organization and superpac that seeks to increase the number of veterans in politics. that's a third of the organization's goal for this november. back in 2012, bezos contributed $2.5 million to help uphold california's same sex marriage law. a viral campaign raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for a homeless veteran. but the money disappeared and now lawyers and gofund me are
