testg a freeway security network. >> called shot spotter designed to pinpoint the time of freeway shootings. amy hollyfield is live in contra costa county to explain how it all works. hi, amy. >> good morning, jessica. now people may have heard gunfire on highway 4 in contra costa overnight. don't worry, this was a test. the chp out overnight so they don't disturb too many people testing their new system. it's a shot spotter system. they're using it in areas where they have had a lot of highway shootings. the system will pinpoint where and when a highway shooting happened. these systems are used around california, but this will be the first time they will be used on a freeway and they plan to install them by the end of the year. the system will eventually include cameras and license plate readers. the hope is to bring it into these freeway shootings. there have been 136 in the bay area in the last three years.

"the chronicle" reports a young woman was stabbed on fifth near market street around 5:15 yesterday evening. police arrested a girl a short time later a half block away. witnesses told "the chronicle" that the suspect was arguing with a man on the street when two young women passed by and the suspect attacked one of them unprovoked. we know many bart riders are concerned about crime after a recent stabbings and attacks. records show which stations have the most arrests. keep in mind, most of the arrests are for outstanding warrants and drug use, not for violent attacks at bart stations. sf gate reports civic center at had the most arrests, 453. that is more than lake merritt,

the coliseum, and west oakland stations combined. powell station came in second with 344 arrests. a bart spokesman told the gate it's no surprise civic center and powell stations have a higher ridership than stations in the east bay. a teenager from israel has died at yosemite national park. he fell from the edge of nevada fall yesterday. the times of israel reports 18-year-old tomar fell more than 800 feet while trying to take a selfie at the edge of the waterfall. he was in the middle of a two-month trip to the u.s. nevada fall is about a six hour hike from yosemite valley. now an abc 7 news live desk update. >> we are seeing new images of the fast-moving inferno on interstate 5 in shasta county. interstate 5 remains closed because of the delta fire, burning about ten miles north of redding. there are -- here are new images

coming in. you see here abandoned trucks destroyed by the flames as the fire jumped interstate 5. 5,000 acres have already burned since the fire started yesterday afternoon. crews have zero percent the containment. a number of cabins and campgrounds are threatened and there are evacuation warnings for residents in that area. officials say the fire was caused by people, but have not said exactly how it was started so we're awaiting more information. for now, let's check your weather. >> all right. we'll take a look at the current conditions up there right now. what you're going to see, hi, everybody, is that it's about 73 degrees, 35% humidity. the winds are at about 12 miles per hour and not going to get much faster than that as we head throughout the next couple days. they're going to stay in the 10 to 15-mile-per-hour range. let's take a look at what the temperatures are going to do. that will be a bigger concern. mid to upper 90s for today all the way through monday and then that touch of fall starts to

roll in as we hit the mid 80s by wednesday of next week. all right. a look at temperatures in the north bay, we have mid 50s in many neighborhoods. 52 in tiberon. mid to upper 50s most other neighborhoods, 52 in daly city, cooler and we have 60 in newark and san jose. here's a look at the golden gate bridge, cross wind, 16 miles per hour. be careful there. strong sunshine if you're out exercising, beaches and bay play, it will be calm but mainly gray at our beaches. here's a look at the north bay, cloudy conditions, not as much fog as yesterday. and about 53 at 8:00. 59 with some sunshine at 10:00. and then full-on sunshine and a few high clouds this afternoon, upper 70s to low 80s. as far as san francisco, the cloud cover, not quite as stubborn as it was yesterday but temperatures really don't respond much. low 60s near the bay, i should say near the coast and mid 60s going to be near the bay with a little more sunshine there. all right. let's check out here's axi >>oornike. i'nmorning.

ad a full northbound 680 in the freemont area heading up into sunol for work on the new sheridan road bridge. everyone was forced off at sheridan road and had to use mission road to get around this between sheridan and andrade. looks like things have reopened on schedule this morning. that was scheduled to wrap up at 5:00. head's up, we have some residual delays that continue to thin out and the same thing from midnight tonight until 5:00 a.m. tomorrow. you don't want to get caught in that. we had long delays. live look at the bay bridge toll plaza no metering lights yet. a little stack up in the cash lanes on the right-hand side. >> thank you. happening today, transportation officials want your input on a new ferry service from richmond to san francisco. the service is expected to be begin in january and officials are trying to decide on ticket prices. here's's what officials are proposing. cash fare for an adult ticket would be $9. you can use a clipper card and it would be $6.75. tickets for kids, seniors and

people with disability $4.50, children under age 5 would ride for free. transportation officials will hold a public hearing at 1:30 at the port of san francisco. san francisco based levi strauss is jumping into the gun control debate. >> they're calling for stricter gun laws and pledging a million dollars to the cause. abc 7 news reporter kate larson has that. >> reporter: while you debate skinny versus straight leg levi strauss is making clear its position on gun controls comes in one size. chip berg wrote an op-ed titled "why business leaders need to take a stand on gun violence" writing, you may wonder why a company that doesn't manufacture or sell guns is wading into this issue. for us it's simple, americans shouldn't have to live in fear of gun violence. berg blejed $1 million to non-profits working to end nonviolence and employees can use paid hours for political activism. how will this affect the company's bottom line. >> i absolutely care about the

state water officials say orville dam should be rdy t ndle this winter's rains but the cost for repairing the tallest dam now exceeds $1 billion. that's up from january's estimate of $870 million. the department of water resources says construction costs and related expenses are causing the increase. more workers were recently hired to get the repairs completed by november. both spillways at the 770-foot dam collapsed in february 2017 forcing nearly 200,000 people downstream to evacuate. new this morning, we are hearing from the santa rosa police officer who adopted a baby girl from a homeless woman he met while on patrol. >> jesse witten developed a friendship with the woman trying ntroduced her to his wife ashley and ashley said the woman asked her to feel her stomach and little did she know she was feeling her future daughter in

coast mainly clouds, warming inland the warmth will spread over everybody else the next couple days and an autumn chill will come in on the backside of that. temperature wise in the south bay, 76 in sunnyvale, 80s around san jose and cupertino, 90s in morgan hill and gilroy. on the peninsula, low to mid 70s and over at the coast all the white that's the cloud cover, 59 to 61 our spread there. 65 to 67 from downtown to south san francisco to sausalito. 77 in petaluma, 82 santa rosa, along the east bay shore 71 in berkeley and oakland. the cool spots. everybody else around 72 to 76 degrees. mid to upper 80s a little warmer than yesterday where a lot of our east bay neighborhoods in the san ramon valley, were mid to upper 70s. my accuweather seven-day forecast, ten degrees warmer tomorrow. low to mid 90s inland with low 80s around the bay and 60s at the coast. see the cooling trend. we're still at average through at least monday.

it was airline policy only one parent could accompany the child in the family boarding group. the other parent had to wait in the normal line. cobb says they later discovered that other straight families were able to board together. the airline responded with a public apology saying the airline has a zero tolerance policy of discrimination of any kind. changing gender on official documents got easier in california. two new laws that went into effect this week will allow people to change their gender at the dmv starting in 2019. people can change their birth certificate right now by going to the california court's website before the law officially changing gender required a doctor's approval and a court appearance. advocates say the requirements were a difficult barrier for transgender men and women. >> that's important for a myriad of things applying for a job, getting an apartment, you can imagine all the ways in which people need their identification

matt? >> reporter: jessica, presentation high school has started a new national search for a president. the current president and former principal says the allegations against her have become a distraction for the school. all this controversy started last october. that's when miller came under fire after a letter from a former student was published in "the washington post" accusing mary miller of mishandling allegations of sexual abuse. dozens of alleged victims have come forward accusing a number of staff members of abuse. former student beth johnson was devastated to hear about the allegations against miller. >> i think it's really important for leadership to change. as much as i loved and learned from mary miller. >> reporter: in a letter to the board, miller hopes her absence allows the staff and new administration to focus on the success and well being of our students. miller says her resignation will become effective on september 14th. reporting live here in san jose,

600 firefighters have been called in and this fire comes just weeks after the carr fire destroyed 1100 homes and killed eight people nearby in that area. it was just declared contained last week. reggie? in the east bay a 19-year-old man from pittsburgh is under arrest for the attempted abduction of a woman in lafayette. authorities say someone tried to force the victim into a dark colored sedan around 4:15 tuesday morning. she escaped and screamed for help as the car sped away. lafayette police say an extensive network of surveillance cameras in the area helped authorities catch one of the suspects. 19-year-old jordan wilson was arrested. he remains in jail with bail set at $200,000. we're getting a look at a gunman wanted for a shooting outside a taqueria in the south bay. investigators released video from the shooting on august 9th outside the la victoria restaurant. you see a man on the lower right of your screen opening fire as

customers scramble to safety, including a woman holding a child's hand. our media partner the mercury news reports two men and a woman are wanted. the shooting appeared to happen following an argument. three men were hurt. thieves hit another apple store in the bay area and this time in downtown los gatos. sky 7 flew above the store on north santa cruz avenue after three men ripped merchandise off tables and ran out the front door yesterday. and this is the eighth such attack or theft i should say in the recent few weeks. they've happened from santa rosa to burlingame. police have released surveillance video of some of the crimes in hopes of identifying the suspects. no one has been hurt. all right. you are never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. let's talk temperatures. we'll start in daly city, 52. we'll head into the mid 50s from pacifica, san bern no to redwood city and menlo park around 60 degrees. same in san jose an hayward.

we've got san ramon at 56, antioch and livermore at 57, along with oakland. san francisco, half moon bay at 55 and 56 in san rafael and napa at 54. unfortunately i think we're going to have delays at sfo. follow me and i'll let you know about them as soon as they let us know. on the roads, clouds but the sunglasses for this afternoon. not breezy on the bay today and mass transit will be cool here in san francisco but pretty comfortable even in the east bay valleys when we hit the low to mid 80s during the afternoon hours, that's pretty much average for this time of the year. we'll start off with 58 with increasing clouds through the morning hours. towards the east bay shoreline we still have cloudy and 59, mostly cloudy at 10:00 and 62, and then we'll see sunshine mixed with high clouds and 66 at noon and love the afternoon hours in the low to mid 70s. we'll head down to the south bay where it's going to be a little bit warmer than the east bay. but temperatures around the upper 70s to low 80s in the afternoon hours with a lot of sunshine compared to this

morning where we're starting cloudy and 59 degrees. had a couple hot spots this morning. >> yeah. nothing too terrible. in fact the biggest one is gone at this point. that was a full closure of 680 and fremont for bridge work but coming back tonight starting at 11:00 until 5:00 tomorrow morning. keep that in mind. we're looking at one new issue that popped up in san francisco. sounds like the westbound 80 connecter to northbound 101 we've got a disabled semi blocking the left lane. chp on the way to the scene. not sure what the issue is. i don't believe that was involved in the collision. some type of hazard there, a tire or mechanical issue, but so far it's not causing any delays the only delay for that commute is, of course, at the toll plaza where there's metering lights that have been on for a little less than 15 minutes. a check of drive times, westbound 80, albany to the maze looks great at four minutes, 880 to san jose, also wide open there at 15 minutes and northbound 280 to cupertino wide open at 11 minutes.

this is the latest natural disaster in the country in the last few months on the heels of a typhoon and devastating floods. a head's up if you registered to vote through the dmv. the department says technicians may have botched nearly 23,000 voter registration submitted through the motor volker law. the dmv revealed the error in a letter to the secretary of state. customers vote by mail, language and political party selections were impacted. affected voter will get a letter to correct the information. the motor voter law which allows motorists to automatically register to vote took effect in april. city inspectors and experts are assessing what caused a window on the 36th floor of millennium tower to crack. the department of building inspection took these photos. the attorney for the home owners association says the person who lives in 36b

talk about what's going on, an eye on our fog, seems to be a daily chore from the weather center. look from the exploratorium camera and you can see the cloud deck out there once again. we'll have afternoon sunshine. a little bit warmer inland while the rest of us average to a little bit below average. now the warmth is going to peak tomorrow. a spike of warmth and in the cooling, yeah we'll have that next week. it will feel like fall. a look at the cloud deck and it surging into the centra valley over the next couple hours. unlike yesterday a lot more sunshine over the bay during the lunch hour but notice the white just sticks to the coast during the afternoon hours once again. let's see what it does down in the south bay. some of the earliest sunshine and warmest temperatures, los gatos, morgan hill and gilroy, mid 80s to mid 90s. most of the south bay will be in the mid to upper 70s and 80 at cupertino and in also san jose. low to mid 70s, a little below average on the peninsula today. millbrae a little cooler 69 but not with a very sharp breeze today. upper 50s to low 60s, mainly 59 t 61, on the

peninsula coast. and then 65 in downtown san francisco. if you're going to be in the north bay valleys, 77 around petaluma a ejo, 82 in santa rosa, 92 towards lakeport. the east bay shore richmond at 72, hayward 74, castro valley at about 73 and a lot of mid to upper 80s in the east bay valleys. not quite as much cloud cover in the south bay and the east bay. temperatures range from about 52 in santa rosa and napa to antioch at 61. my accuweather seven-day forecast, a little spike in the heat tomorrow. and it holds on barely saturday and then you can see sunday the highs start to ease back closer to average and even below average for the middle parts of next week. have a good day. talk to alexis. >> pretty quiet right now. we started off with some significant delays due to some roadwork. right now we're in our sweet spot where we've wrapped up those projects and volumes are just starting to increase. of course the one exception always tracy, down to 7 miles an
