7.go mni. i put theud cove ocean and that means no real, strong warmth again today. here's my accuweather 12-hour planner. starting off steady, mid to upper 50s under cloudy conditions. staying in the upper 50s at the coast. all throughout the rest of the time frames. at noon 67 to 73 with more sunshine around the bay and inland. inland we'll warm up just a little bit. mid 80s while we'll stay in the mid 70s around the bay. comfortable night on the way, 60s and 70s. here's alexis. >> good morning, mike. and checking out the roads here today, we don't have many issues going right now, although i am just wanting to take you into a bit of a delay. that just started to form in san francisco. southbound 101 around cesar chavez road work scheduled until 6:00 should be wrapping up as we speak. definitely had at least one lane down. as you head through the 280 interchange, seeing stop-and-go traffic. i do think that will clear out shortly. keeping a close eye on that.

southbound 680 through walnut creek starting to see quite a few brake lights around north main street, no blocking incidents for that stretch of roadway. we'll look at drive times coming up next. you're looking at technology called shot spotting that picks up gunshots and pinpoints where they came from. the chp is working on rolling it out to slow down freeway shootings. amy hollyfield is live in the east bay where testing happened overnight. amy? >> reporter: hi, jessica. people may have heard gunfire along highway 4 overnight here in contra costa county. don't be alarmed. this was just a test. that's exactly what the chp is hoping to avoid in the future. that's gunfire on the freeways. they are preparing to itall a shot spotter system in areas whe they have had asted ttig. they just wrapped up around 4:00 this morning. they did it overnight so they wouldn't bother too many people.

this system will pinpoint where and when a highway shooting happened. the systems are used around california, but this will be the first time they'll be used on a freeway. they plan to install them by the end of the year. they're going to use them in the east bay along highway 4, highway 24, and highway 80. the system will eventually include cameras and license plate readers. they -- the hope is to bring an end to the freeway shootings. there have been 136 in the bay area in the last three years. reporting live from contra costa county, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> thank you. we know many bart riders are concerned about crime after recent stabbings and attacks. records show that -- show us which stations have the most arrests in 2017. this is according to "sf gate." civic center bart had the most, 453, more than lake merritt, the coliseum stations combined.

powell station comes in second with 344. # a bart spokesman told the gate it's no surprise civic center and powell stations have a higher ridership than stations in the east bay. >> police say they have a suspect in custody following an unprovoked attack in san francisco soma neighborhood. "the chronicle" reports a young woman was stabbed on fifth near market street around 5:15 yesterday afternoon. police arrested a girl a short time later a half block away. witnesses told "the chronicle" that the suspect was arguing with a man on the street when two young women passed by and the suspect attacked one of them unprovoked. alameda police have arrested a suspect in connection with a series of attempted sexual sault assaults at crown state beach. an incident happened tuesday and saturday. alameda police say an attempted sexual assault was also reported august 6th near the park. police say residents who visit the park helped identify the suspect.

a teenager from israel has died at yosemite national park. he fell from the edge of nevada fall yesterday. the times of israel reports 18-year-old ha0 ft while trying to take a selfie at the edge of the waterfall. he was in the middle of a two-month trip to the u.s. nevada fall is about a six hour hike from yosemite valley. san francisco based levi strauss is calling for stricter gun laws. >> the company's president and ceo wrote an op-ed titled "why business leaders need to take a stand on gun violence" and wrote, quote, you may wonder why a company that doesn't manufacture or sell guns is wading into this issue, but for us it's simple, americans shouldn't have to live in fear of gun violence. the ceo also pledged $1 million to non-profits working to end gun violence and will give employees paid volunteer time for political activism. some customers are in favor of it. >> i absolutely care about the

as y head out onbay. all right. let's talk about the east bay valleys. you can see temperatures start at 58 and ramp up with mostly sunny conditions. hanging out in the mid 80s between 3:00 and 5:00. our warmest temperatures there. >> good morning, mike. and i want to take you back to where i was just a few minutes ago. we had roadwork wrapping up on southbound 101 in san francisco around cesar chavez and now a crash in that same location unfortunately. sounds like just as folks were starting to move we have the two left lanes blocked and i believe we have three vehicles involved working on getting more information on that one. definitely some heavier traffic in that area. you're down to about 12 miles an hour through the 280 interchange on southbound 101. 580 tracy to dublin under an hour at 59 minutes. 680 out of dublin or northbound 85 through the south bay. >> thank you. we're g nn

fea aut.. on globe" first reported about it in july. the tsa specifically targets u.s. citizens not in the terrorist screening database and those who pose no real threat. now the goal is to foil any terrorist threats. the tsa officials say it has not stopped any threats or led to any arrests. this came at a hearing yesterday according to "the globe." one senator called it a huge waste of taxpayer dollars and urged the tsa to reconsider its operation. a local gay couple is calling on an airline for discrimination. that airline now responding. plus a bay area police officer literally takes his work home with him. now we're hearing from the officer.

now a live desk update. >> from abc 7 mornings. >> an update on the negotiations to denuclearize north korea. a south korean presidential delegation just visited pyongyang. officials say they gave kim jong-un a message from president trump and kim jong-un gave them a message to deliver to president trump. this morning the president tweeting this, kim jong-un of north korea proclaims unwavering faith to president trump. thank you to chairman kim. we will get it done together.

south korea and north korea are expected to hold their third summit next weekend. a gay couple from san francisco is accusing taiwanese airline of discrimination. jeff cobb posted tweets about his experience and said he tried to board the flight at sfo on saturday with his husband and 19-month-old child. he was told that it was airline policy only one parent could accompany the child in the family boarding group. the other parent had to wait in the normal line. cobb says they later discovered that other heterosexual parents were able to board together. the airline responded with a public apology saying the airline has a zero tolerance policy of discrimination of any kind. new developments, san francisco giants are moving forward on their mission rock project near at&t park. "the chronicle" reports the giants selected new york developer tishman spencer to partner with them on the 28-acre project. tishman spencer has been one of

the city's active builders since 2006. the giants president says they plan to break ground next fall after the 2019 baseball season. the mission rock development will include hsiunits, nearly 1.5 million square feet of office space and 8 acres of parkland to the land across from the cove of the ballpark. this morning we're hearing from the santa rosa police officer who adopted a baby girl from a homeless woman while he was on --ten developed a friendship with the woman trying to get her help as she was struggling with drug addiction she gave birth a few months after they met and witten and his wife got a phone call. >> we were called by the sonoma county saying that hey, do you know who this woman is, she's just had a baby and she's asked for you guys to be emergency placement for this child. that day we went and saw harlow in the hospital and fell in love right away. >> as you heard they named the baby, the fourth daughter harlow. she did deal with withdraw

about 6:00 and then just as that was clearing the crash occurred. southbound 101, sounds like north of cesar chavez, two vehicles, not three, involved in the collision blocking the two left lanes. delays out of the area heading towards 280. keeping an eye on that. not too much has changed. if you look closely at the bottom of your screen you can see a tow truck in the parking lot for the bay bridge toll plaza. looks like that's covered up a bit but they were involved in a minor collision with another vehicle. they were able to clear that fairly quickly. so other than that we're looking at typical backup into the maze for the bay bridge. the metering lights came on one hour ago, 5:20 the official time today. >> "good morning america" coming up. >> ginger zee is live from new york city with a look at what's ahead. good morning, beginninger. >> -- ginger. >> coming up on "gma" the bitter battle in the white house. we're there for it. president trump's furious after that editorial from an anonymous

like days, maybe weeks away from that september surge. that septembe're still searchin temperatures at least inland in the east bay will be average while the rest of us will be about two to five degrees cooler than average today. reggie with more news. >> tomorrow the santa rosa city council will hold a meeting to discuss a report on the performance of the city's water system during the north bay wildfires. that report finds a system was so overwhelmed that there was little that could have been done to keep water pressure strong enough to help firefighters battle the fire in the fountain grove neighborhood. some tanks were empty or less than full. pumps failed. backup generators didn't work. the report has several recommendations for the city and they include switching backup generators to diesel and exploring automatic shutoff valves. water officials say orville dam should be ready to handle this winter's rains but the cost of repairing the tallest dam exceeds $1 billion. the department of waternd relat

caused the increase and more workers were hired to get the repairs completed by november. both spillways of the 770 foot dam collapsed february 2017 forcing nearly 200,000 people downstream to evacuate. uber is taking new steps to boost driver and passenger safety. the ride hailing company unveiled new features including ride check that uses your smartphone sensors to detect an unexpected stop or impact during a crash. passengers would receive a prompt to order another ride paid for by uber or the 911 emergency call button. expect to see these in the next few months. also drivers will no longer see where they picked up or dropped off passengers in the past. changing gender on official documents got easier in california. two laws that went into effect this week will allow people to change their gender at the dmv starting in 2019.

people can also change their birth certificate. right now by going to the california court's website. before the new laws, officially changing gender required a doctor's approval and court appearance. advocates say the requirements were a difficult barrier for transgender men and women. >> that's really important for a myriad of things applying for a job, getting an apartment, you can imagine all the ways in which people need their identification to match the way they present externally. >> beginning in january, the law will also allow drivers to easily change their gender on their driver's license. long lines, not the only issue the dmv is dealing with. the department admitting to botching voter registrations. >> days after we said it happened again, well, it happened again. thieves hit another bay area apple store. >> a shooting in the south bay caught on camera.

6:40. this morning, secretary of state mike pompeo is saying it's not him. talking about that explosive op-ed in "the new york times." >> the op-ed published yesterday written by an anonymous trump administration official who claims to be part of an internal resistance trying to save the country from the president's impulses. abc news reporter emily rau is live with the president's response. emily? >> jessica and reggie, this letter within 24 hours of the new highly critical book by bob woodward and both of them seem to portray a similar picture where top aides in the white house are tempering the impulses of the president. >> nobody has ever done than a two-year period what we've done. >> reporter: president trump defiant after the rare move by "the new york times" publishing an anonymous letter from a senior administration official who writes, i work for the president, but like-minded colleagues and i have vowed to thwart parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations.

will be effective on september 14th. now a statement was released yesterday and in it miller says the allegations have become a distraction for the school and mentioned she hopes her absence will bring peace to presentation. miller came under fire after a letter from a former student kathryn leehane accused her of mishandling allegations of sexual abuse. since then dozens of alleged victims have come forward. >> she did a lot of good for presentation. there is no doubt about that. but she also through her failure to report child abuse, she victimized dozens of girls. >> reporter: in a letter to the board, miller said she hopes her absence allows the staff and new administration to focus on the success and well being of our students. presentation has now started a national search for a new president. reporting live in san jose, matt keller, abc 7 news. now a live desk update. >> from "abc 7 mornings." interstate 5 is closed in

shasta county because of a fast-moving wildfire. it's the delta fire. it's burning about ten miles north of redding and so far 5,000 acres have burned. it is at zero percent containment. thousands of people were stuck after the fire ignited just before 1:00 p.m. you can see in this video abandoned trucks that were destroyed by the flames as that fire jumped i-5. we talked to one man via skype who was forced to leave his car behind. >> it felt like it was coming to us, so some of the guys that us, so some of the guys that were in front of us, i don't know, like, five, ten trucks in front of us were closer, they had to drop the trailers and turn around. >> the u.s. forest service has launched a full aircraft attack and ground response. officials say the cause of the fire was human, but they didn't really go into specifics. this comes just weeks after the carr fire destroyed 1100 homes and killed eight people in the

same area. reggie, back to you. >> thanks. we're getting a first look at a gunman wanted for a shooting outside a taqueria in the south bay and investigators release the surveillance video from the shooting on august 9th outside the la victoria restaurant. you see a man on the lower right-hand side of your screen. he opens fire and customers scramble to safety, including a woman holding a child's hand. here's a close-up look. "the mercury news" reports two men and a woman are wanted in the case. the shooting appeared to happen following an argument. three men were hurt. tleevgs hit another apple store in the bay area this time in downtown los gatos. sky 7 flew above the store on north santa cruz avenue after three men ripped merchandise off tables and ran out the front door yesterday. this is the eighth theft in just a few weeks. these have happened from santa rosa to burlingame. police released surveillance video of some of the crimes in hopes of identifying the

suspects. so far no one has been hurt. you are never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. let's talk more about that shasta fire. we've got 73 degrees right now and about 35% relative humidity. winds out of the east at 12 to 15 miles per hour, out of the east and stay relatively calm the next 24 hours. this time tomorrow they'll start to pick up around 10 to 15. it's the fire or the temperature that really concerns me the most. mid to upper 90s today through monday. cooler, though, dropping down into the mid-80s next week. talk about what's going to happen in the south bay. we've got temperature around 59 in cupertino and santa clara, 61 sympathy, alum rock 68. mid to upper 50s in our neighborhoods. little cooler in bodega bay. here's a look at what's going on as far as our commute on the roads. clouds this morning but you need the sunglasses this afternoon. calm conditions on the bay today. cool to comfy if you're taking mass transit. the north bay starting off cloudy and 54, sunny and 70 by

noon, upper 70s to low 80s by 6:00. nice 67 at 8:00. san francisco stuck in the low 60s for the afternoon hours. except on the bayside a few areas will touch the mid 60s. otherwise you're book ends with mid to upper 50s and clouds. in the peninsula, low to mid 70s after starting off with 58 and cloudy this morning. want to bring in alexis and give us -- your job got hard the last couple days and so did everybody's commute. what are you watching today? >> a couple crashes. this is on northbound 880 north of the alameda. sounds like two vehicles involved and actually perhaps a secondary crash in the same area. that is blocking the far right lane and the on ramp from the alameda as well. so not a terrible backup and they are working to clear that. stop and go if you are going to be traveling through the south bay. that's one of our slower spots right now. walnut creek boy this really has looked busy and bad ever since we came back on tuesday from the labor day holiday.

so very, very busy here right around north main street. it does get better once you connect to 24 or continue south through the danville area an on to the south bay for a lot of you. southbound 101 santa rosa to petaluma 16 minutes, north bay commute you fill in the latest. castro valley to the maze also in the green at 14 and north bay 101 to 280 to 680, stop and go in the yellow at 17 minutes. >> now a live desk update. >> from abc 7 mornings. the senate confirmation hearing for supreme court nominee brett kavanaugh is wrapping up today and the proceedings just got under way again this morning. want to show you these live pictures coming into our live desk. you can see lawmakers there questioning kavanaugh. yesterday's hearing lasted more than 12 hours and judge kavanaugh did not answer questions over how he would handle investigations of the executive branch. democrats have been pressing kavanaugh for his views on abortion rights, gun control and other issues. we'll see if he budget today.

protests against kavanaugh have be onwe expt them to continue today. 66 demonstrators were removed from yesterday's hearing. the lawsuit over gwyneth paltrow's wellness company is leading to a bigger question. how do you know about on-line claims? which do you believe? what you need to watch out for. sinking and leaning aren't the only issues millennium tower is investigating.
