up to battle more wildfires. this is the earliest in the money.cal fire has asked for let's talk about how much it is costing the state of california during the wildfires. the commissioner says more than 10,000 home and commercial insurance claims have been filed from the carr and mendocino complex fires alone. the losses amount to over $845 million. >> we've had a rough fire season, so many people's homes devastated and even last year. >> it's just starting. >> all compiled has been difficult. it's 4:30, let's check our weather and traffic this morning. mike, is there going to be help on the way? >> there will be help in the form of cooler temperatures next week but will bring faster breezes. it's a catch 22. plus the drought is getting worse. i'll show you that. temperature about 70, humidity 33% and the winds gusting 13.

will have to wait even longer for the highly anticipated berryessa project to finish up. >> that could take more than a year to complete. reporter matt keller live in san jose with the new timetable. matt? >> good morning, reggie and jessica. i did a story in april about vta testing the tracks and they were hoping to have this open for passengers by the end of this year. now vta is updating the status and say it may open up to performance performs the end of next year. what went wrong? they were informed on june 12th some of the networking equipment installed does not comply with contract requirements and must be replaced. vta is trying to replace the part, some ordered and some delivered. in a blog post last night vta has requested an extension to the federal transit administration to reflect the start of passenger service no later than december 31st, 2019. if that does happen our media

partner says that will mean the bart extension to berryessa will open three years after. they hope to have a more accurate timeline by the beginning of 2019. live in san jose, matt keller, abc 7 news. >> matt, thank you. in the east bay, a trial date is expected to be set today for the two ghost ship fire departments. last month an alameda judge threw out the plea deal for derrick almena and max harris setting the stage for a lengthy trial and they agreed to plead no contest to 36 counts of involuntary manslaughterer in exchange for prison sentences many families said were too lenient. they are now scheduled to appear in court at 9:15 this morning. the san francisco police department says the five officers who shot mario woods acted in accordance with department policy. woods was killed by police in the bayview in december 2015. his death recorded by onlookers

and it sparked national outrage. the department's decision ends a nearly three-year investigation into the shooting. the district attorney said in may his office would not file carges against the five thwos to go before the november election, two of california's biggest races are tightening and that's according to a new poll just out this week. former san francisco mayor gavin newsom, running for governor, and dianne feinstein, who is seeking re-election to the senate, are seeing their leads cut to single digits. look at this. newsom leads republican businessman john cox 44% to just 39%. 17% of those who responded to the poll say they are undecided. in comment, dianne feinstein leads kevin deleon 37% to 29%. 34% responded they were still undecided in this race. the research poll was taken

between august 29th and september 2nd. that's the most recent numbers we have. gavin newsom responding to president trump for calling him out during a rally in montana. the president talked about to have the state pay for universal health care. mr. trump also predicted that the california population would grow to 500 million people if health care were free. newsom responded to the president on twitter and he says, quote, next time you call me and my policies out, have the guts to at me and we can have a chat. the fallout from the op-ed in "the new york times" and the guessing game that's playing out about who wrote it. top white house officials are denying they authored the letter while president trump is calling on the "times" to reveal its source. here's emmy law with more. >> reporter: good morning. at least ten top officials have publicly denied penning the op-ed and president trump is demanding "the new york times" reveal the author.

60s during the afternoon hours. for the east bay it's going to be warmer, a little more sunshine too. look at that by 8:00, 59, we're up to about 70 at noon and we'll hang out in the mid 70s in the afternoon hours. grab a coat, by the evening hours we're back in the low 60s and up in the north bay we'll start off with fog around santa rosa and alexis and i will keep an eye on. 77 at noon and look at the 80s throughout the afternoon into the early evening hours. that drop from 82 at 6:00 to about 69, so that's how quickly things are going to cool off. i want to bring her in and friday light would be nice after the week we've had. >> wouldn't it? it's kind of a rough first week back here, as everyone returned from summer break or just even a long holiday weekend, labor day last week. yeah, we definitely are back to reality this week. nothing too major so far this morning with thetion of that work on southbound 680. a full closure there. right around andrade in the fremont area. that's all we've got going this morning. we'll head back there.

of hollywood legend burt reynolds. he died yesterday at the age of 82 and his career spanne more than 50 years and he played everything from a southern heartthrob to tough guy to funny man. the thriller "deliverance" is widely credited as his breakout performance. >> you don't beat it, don't beat this river. >> in an interview last year, reynolds says he wanted to be remembered as a good man and somebody who loved the entertainment business. the end of his 2015 memoir reads, quote, nobody had more fun than i did. memorial services for burt reynolds have not been announced. colin kaepernick makes an appearance after the debut of nike's controversial just do it ad featuring him. he was at nike headquarters outside of portland yesterday as part of nike's just do it day. he hasn't quarterbacking a team since the 2016 season. that's when he knelt during the national anthem to protest police brutality. the action sparked outrage from

some including president trump. nike's decision to feature kaepernick as the face of the just do it 30th anniversary campaign has sparked criticism and praise. an end of the era at the solano fairgrounds. demolition crews started tearing down the grandstands to make room for feature development. a plan called solano 360 calls for the replacement of the track with a mixed use residential retail and transit development. the county has not yet found a developer to work with, but they have set aside $90 million to help turn the project into reality. >> you just can't build these buildings and put in the infrastructure and go we're only going to use it two weeks out of the year. we want it to be used 365 days out of the year and to benefit the public as well as private interest. >> demolition will likely continue through december. the other 130 acres of the fairground site will be retained and used for the fair and other events that still generate money
