>> announcer: live where you live, this is abc 7 news. i'm shocked. they were arrested for that. >> that being weapons, human trafficking and worse. charges have been filed against the owners of bay area senior care homes and child daycare centers. good evening. i'm dan ashley. ama daetz is off. the defendants allegedly targeted members of the filipino community, many of whom were new to the united states. the facilities are located in residential neighborhoods in south san francisco, daly city, and pacifica.% abc 7 news reporter katie utehs is here with more on the investigation. katie? >> reporter: dan, the neighborhoods are unassuming as you can see in this video, but neighbors i spoke with were suspicious. a bright yellow ferrari caught people's eyes. possibly funded off the backs of the hundreds of immigrants the facility owners are accused of

exploiting. >> reporter: a deceiving name. rainbow bright. for a family-run business accused of dark conditions. >> rainbow bright was cheating not just the workers of their pay, not just the workers of their dignity, but was cheating you and me as taxpayers. >> reporter: about $8.5 million, says state attorney general javier becerra. the four adult and two childcare facilities are tucked away in pacifica, daly city, and south san francisco neighborhoods. >> they have been here long time. but we never know what happen actually inside. >> reporter: the sign says "we just stepped out." but on thursday investigators raided the facilities, seizing the weapons seen here. a loaded handgun apparently found under a blanket in the garage of the daycare. >> and then we saw a lot of baggages were removed, and we

were praying athey close the place. >> reporter: joshua, gerlen, carlina gamo face charges for rape and labor exploitation. >> they were forced to work up to 24 hours a day. they slept on the floors and in garages. they were locked outside sometimes in the rain when the owners were not home. >> reporter: becerra says the accuse confiscated the workers' passports and threatened to call immigration. >> i'm shocked. like they were arrested for that. >> reporter: now the accused are being held on bails ranging from $1 million to $2.5 million. court dates are set for later this month. dan? >> okay. katie, thanks. katie utehs reporting. developing news tonight in shasta county where the delta fire is still raging. caltrans tells abc 7 news the earliest interstate 5 could reopen is on sunday now. flames are on both sides of the roadway, force the closure of nearly 50 miles of that highway. the fire has now burned more than 31,000 acres and is zero

percent contained still. caltrans says it needs to replace guardrails, signs, and fix the pavement, and there's also another big problem. burned trees. >> all the trees, and that would include a lot of the little ones, you have these big conifer trees, they get burned, they just are very -- they'll just snap in wind storms, and we just can't have that certainly on an interstate. >> caltrans estimates several million dollars in business are being lost each day due to the closure because trucks just cannot get through. it's a major freeway for that. in the south bay a 28-year-old father of two stabbed to death outside his family's home, and tonight the community took to the streets to demand answers and justice. abc 7 news reporter amanda del castillo is live with details of a new reward in this case. amanda. >> reporter: dan, the non-profit organization mothers against murderers offering a $5,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest.

now, there is a 30-day time limit on this reward as many are calling for swift justice. candles, balloons, and messages written in chalk. this growing memorial surrounds the home frankie santos shared with his high school sweetheart and his two young sons. relatives say too often families across the city are being forced to mourn senseless deaths. >> it's getting a little rough. it's throughout san jose. >> reporter: that's why dozens marched friday in santo cesano. the crowd eventually gathered in the same place where santos was killed along raymond avenue in unincorporated san jose. this was the scene sunday morning. family members say santos returned home from a fantasticy football party and approached a truck parked along the street. santa clara county sheriff's office says there was some kind of confrontation before santos was stabbed in his chest. he died at the hospital. >> i called his cell phone all

the time just to hear him talk. and those things i will never get back again. >> reporter: emotion was easy to see friday. family members have come forward, begging for information about who killed santos. relatives are begging the city for change. >> i'm challenging the people that have the power to make a difference, to do something about the violence. we're tired of all this violence. >> reporter: take a good look at your screen. the sheriff's office shared this picture of the suspect vehicle. again, caught on surveillance camera. it is a dark, full-sized gmc or chevrolet truck. witnesses say those inside of the truck were either white or hispanic men in their 20s. i'm live outside of the santa clara county sheriff's office tonight. amanda del castillo, abc 7 news. new at 11:00, a judge has rejd rejected a request by the alameda county sheriff's office to bar the recording of conversations between suspects and their lawyers.

the ruling stems from a video thelma engineered last month of a sergeant discussing that practice, but the judge also put the sheriff's office on notice saying that violations will be prosecuted. the alameda county district attorney's office is investigating to see if any cases have been compromised by these recordings. the fbi is offering a $10,000 reward tonight to catch a person who deliberately set a fire outside planned parenthood's office in watsonville. take a look now. a surveillance camera caught the arsonist in the act on south green valley road. it happened about 4:00 in the morning on july 20th. the fire smoldered for about three hours until someone noticed smoke and called 911. it did not burn the building down, thank goodness. well, out with the old, in with the new. the mtc is looking to spend $200 million to upgrade its clipper card system. abc 7 news reporter carlos sausedo is live at the el cerrito b.a.r.t. station with the story tonight. carlos. >> reporter: well, dan, as you

mentioned, it's not going to come cheap, but it will make things a lot easier for passengers. instead of using a clipper card to tap in and out, you'll be able to do so using your smartphone. for more than a decade public transit riders in the bay area have been able to use clipper cards to pay their fares, getting in and out much quicker. >> i use it for everything. i use it for the bus, b.a.r.t., for the ferry. >> reporter: but the system is obsolete. sometimes taking days to update a rider's balance on the card. >> the card is not a live card. it doesn't have live balances on it. the card really is a stored value card. >> reporter: the metropolitan transportation commission is in the final stages of approving a systems upgrade worth $195 million. instead of a card you'll be able to use your mobile device to tap in and out. >> they can find out how much money they have on their card right away. they can put more money on their card right away. they can put money on their

kids' cards right away. none of those functionalities we have right now. >> reporter: the tech capital has waited long enough, with other cities already using this technology. >> we do that with the commuter rail in before toston and it's nice because when the conductor comes around you can show it and buy is it at any point. >> reporter: you'll have the option of using your phone to pay or keep it traditional and stick with your clipper card. >> here in the bay area there's a lot of tech folks. i think this is going to catch on. >> reporter: and while this sounds great, it will take some time to implement. the commission is expected to approve the plan at the end of this month. but the system won't be made available on your smartphone until the year 2021. so we will have to wait several years before we're able to tap with our phones. report live in el cerrito, carlos salcedo, abc 7 news. >> that's too bad. while we're talking mass transportation, starting monday

there will be direct b.a.r.t. services to the warm springs station in fremont on both the orange and green lines. passengers will no longer need to transfer lines at the fremont station. b.a.r.t.'s added service will operate monday through saturday. not on sunday. well, if you plan to use the bay bridge tomorrow, you may face delays when caltrans stops traffic to demolish the last part of the old eastern span. crews will use explosives like they've done in the past. a blast like that one will destroy two support piers. abc 7 news was on the eastern span today when crews finished preparations for tomorrow's bic r big implosion. you can expect traffic to be stopped sometime between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 in the afternoon. a lot more to come here. an air bnb nightmare in san francisco. you've got to see this. why cleanup crews had to wear protective suits when they entered. a wild chase that went on for hours. see how this one came to a very unusual end. and they raced into a burning home in the east bay to

a wield police chase in los angeles went for more than two hours tonight before coming to kind of a weird ending. it started in burbank when

police tried to stop a porsche convertible for driving in the wrong direction. the driver and his female passenger tried to outrun officers on the freeway but circled back to burbank and calmly got out of their car, letting it roll down the street. isn't that odd? then look. there's the door smacking another car. officers quickly pounced, arresting both of them. anyone not get caught doing that? well, piles of trash, needles and a lot worse. this is what cleanup crews found when they entered an airbnb in san francisco. just an unbelievable mess. abc 7 news yoert direporter dio talked with a stunned property manager. >> horrible. horrible. the person who was renting here had defecated through the entire home and urinate all over the place. >> reporter: this is what realtor and property manager egan lim walked into just a few days ago and fromted him to call in private clean, a crime scene cleaning crew. >> it was something out of a horror movie. >> it was pretty bad. people from the outside walking by could smell.

so you had joggers stopping, going, uh, wow, what's that smell? >> reporter: the $5.3 million home in one of san francisco's toniest neighborhoods, ransacked by the renter inside. >> this was a queen bed. there was a headboard right here. there was blood stains. >> reporter: to give you an idea of just how bad this home was, take a look at this bucket. it's filled with about 150 needles, most of them for drug use. this in-law suite was rent ford 3 1/2 months for $100 a night through airbnb. lim can't even estimate how much damage was done. >> we're going to file a complaint, more formal complaint. >> reporter: airbnb does have a $1 million host guarantee in case of damages. the company sent us this statement, saying in part, "in 2017 there were more than 49 million trips at airbnb listings worldwide. significant property damage was 04% us something even lim agrees with and says won't deter him from managing properties through rental sites. >> i use airbnb myself. i'm very confident using airbnb

and any of the other vacation rental sites. anybody subject to this type of vandalism. >> reporter: despite the headache the homeowner and the property manager say they will rent the unit out again, this time, though, after installing security cameras outside. in san francisco dion lim, abc 7 news. >> incredible. two teenage girls from livermore who helped save a family and their pets from a fire are going to be honored at this mondaying raiders game. 19-year-old sarah colson and her friend 17-year-old gabby smith were on their way home last month when they saw the house in flames. they pulled over and both ran into the home to help. the family inside and their three dogs made it out safely. the raiders will salute them as part of the team's hometown hero feature. you can watch the oakland raiders season opener on monday right here on abc 7. our pregame coverage of the rams-raiders game starts at 7:00 live from the oakland coliseum. hope you can join us. new at 11:00, a new festival

series in san francisco's chinatown will give you the chance to see the historic neighborhood at night. abc 7 news was in the alleys of waverly place where the chinese cultural center hosted the first chinatown at twilight. people were treated to performances from dancers and singers as well as arts and crafts for kids. the next chinatown at twilight will be two weeks from tonight on september 21st. it was just a gorgeous evening for that. meteorologist sandhya patel is here with the weekend forecast. sandhya. >> yeah. this time of year it is really nice, especially for events like that. and in a couple of weeks it will be just as gorgeous, dan. take a look at live doppler 7. we here are experiencing some changes. the fog that started to reform this afternoon and evening has been swept away, but it will be back in patches tomorrow morning. right now temperatures are in the 40s all the way to the 70s. so really other than the coastline it is pretty mild to warm away from the coast. i do want to show you the temperature trend for concord. hour by hour we go. 8:00 a.m., 61 degrees.
