good morning, bay area. let's get up and get going. this is abc 7 mornings. it's saturday, september 8th, good morning and thanks so much for waking up with us. i'm chris nguyen. let's start with the accuweather forecast. here is frances dinglasan. she is tracking the weather for us. >> good morning. we have a very different start today. less cloud cover, and you can see it here on live doppler 7 and the satellite image and just patchy clouds there, but clear along the coast. temperatures range from 40s in parts of the north bay like santa rosa, novato and the 40s and 60s out there. concord and bran fortd, and san francisco is currently 67. we'll have a few clouds near half moon bay by 8:00.

by lunchtime, plenty of sunshine for everyone. the temperatures are starting to climb into the 80s and this afternoon look for low 90s inland and 60s at the coast. this evening, the fog and cloud start to move back into the coast ask it will still be nice if you're heading out and grab a jacket if you're planning to stay out late and the temperatures start to drop by 11:00 tonight with more cloud cover. >> developing news in shasta county where the delta fire is still raging this morning. cal trans tells abc 7 news, the interstate 5 will reopen tomorrow. forcing the closure of the near 50-mile stretch. the fire has burned 31,000 acres and is 0% contained. cal trans needs to repla guardrails, signs and fix the pavement. >> although it's not hitting homes and everything, it's creating as much havoc as the traveling public because interstate 5, each corridor in the alternative routes the capa

a lot longer and the roads aren't built for that kind of traffic on a long-term basis. >> cal trans estimates several million dollars in business are being lost each day due to the closure because trucks aren't getting through. >> time now is 5:02. weapon, human trafficking and worse. charges have been filed against the owner of bay area senior homes and child day care. the defendants seen here allegedly targeted member of the filipino community, many of whom were new to the united states. the facilities are located in residential neighborhoods in south san francisco, daley city and pacifica. katy utehs has more on the investigation. a deceiving name, rainbow bright for a family-run business accused of dark conditions. >> rainbow bright was cheating not just their workers of their pay, not just the workers of

garages. they were locked outside sometimes in the rain when the owners were not home. >> becerra said the accused confiscated the workers' passports and threatened to call immigration. >> i'm shocked that they were arrested for that. >> the accused are being held 1 million to $2.5 million. court dates are set for later this month. katie utehs, abc 7 news. a judge has rejected the request by the alameda county office to bar the conversations between suspects and their lawyers. the ruling stems from a video that emerged last month of a sergeant discussing the practice, but the judge also put the sheriff's office on notice saying violations prosecuted. the alameda district attorney's office will. did handing answers and justice after a 28-year-old father of two was stabbed to death outside his family's home.

abc 7 news reporter amanda del castillo has the story. candles, blooms and messages written in chalk. this surrounds the home frankie santos shared with his high school sweetheart and two young sons. too often, families across the city, families are being forced to mourn senseless deaths. >> it's throughout san jose, obviously. >> that's why dozens marched friday in santos' honor. the crowd eventually gathered in the same place where santos was killed along raymond avenue in unincorporated san jose. this was the scene sunday morning. family members say santos returned home from a fantasy football party and approached a truck parked along the street. the santa clara office said there was some sort of confrontation before santos was stabbed in his chest. >> i call his cell phone all of

the time just to hear him talk and those things i will never get back again. >> emotion was easy to see friday. family members have come forward begging for information about who killed santos. relatives are now begging the city for change. >> i'm challenging the people that have the power to make a difference to do something about the violence. we're tired of all this violence. >> the sheriff's office shared this picture of the suspect vehicle caught on surveillance camera. take another look, it's a dark, full-sized gmc or chevrolet truck. witnesses say those inside were either black or hispanic men in their 20s. amanda del castillo, abc 7 news. the fbi is offering a $10 f$ th ,000. the fbi is offering a $10,000 reward. a camera caught the arsonist in the act. it happened on 4:00 in the

morning on july 20th. the fire smolderred for three hours before someone noticed the smoke and called 911. cal trans plans to stop traffic on the bay bridge. crews will use explosives like they've done in the past. a blast like that will destroy two of the support piers. abc 7 news was on the eastern span yesterday when crews finished preparing for today's implosion. you can expect traffic to be stopped some time between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m. out with the old and in with the new. the metropolitan commission is planning to spend $200 million to update the clipper card system. carlos salcedo has the details. >> reporter: for more than a decade, public transit riders in the bay area have been able toe fares getting in and out much quicker. >> i use it for everything. i use it for the bus, bart and

for the ferry. >> reporter: but the system is obsolete. sometimes taking days to update a rider's balance on the card. >> the card is not a live card. it doesn't have live balances on it. the card is a stored value card. >> the metropolitan transportation commission is in the final stages of approving a systems upgrade worth $195 million. instead of a card, you'll be able to use your mobile device to tap in and out. >> they can find out how much money they have in their card right away and they can put more money on their card right away and put money on their kids' cards right away. the tech capital has waited long enough with other cities already using this technology. >> we do that with the commuter rail in boston and it's really nice because when the conductor comes around you can show it and buy it at any point. once it's all said and done you will have the option to keep your phone to pay or stick with the traditional and stick with

the clipper card. >> here in the area there are a lot of tech folks that will catch on. >> it will take time to implement. the commission is expected to approve a plan at the end of this month, but it will still be a while. it will be the year 2021 before we are able to use this on our phones. in el cerrito, carlos salcedo, abc 7 news. starting monday, there will be direct bart service to the warm springs station in fremont on both the orange and green lines. passengers currently have to transfer lines at the fremont station. it will operate monday through saturday. sundays will remain unchanged for now with orange line service to warm springs. time now is 5:09. frances dinglasan has been tracking the accuweather forecast this week end. a little cooler this weekend. >> we're starting to ease into the inland areas and mid-90s are gone and we'll still hit the low 90s inland at the coast and mild in the 60s ask i'll have your

afternoon around the bay, but most areas at sea level, winds are calm. right now in santa rosa, it's 51. a few 40s and napa and novato and fairfield and concord at 60 degrees right now. as we look toward the bay bridge and downtown san francisco. it will be a gorgeous day and we have patchy, morning fog and bright sunshine early on. we'll be dropping from the mid-90s to low 90s and we'll continue to drop. in fact, it will be much cooler by the middle of next week for most everybody. so here's how the day plays out. notice 7:00 this morning not too many clouds and then this evening, the clouds start to move back into tomorrow night, but lots of sunshine, again for everyone. so highs today will range from 60s at the coast and that's where the sea breeze will keep things cool. so half moon bay, 63 and san francisco, 67 and oakland, sunny

and mild for the as game and san jose warming up to 82 and you'll notice our inland areas hitting the low 90s like fairfield, antioch and livermore and it will be great to head to the beach, but grab a jacket and you probably won't need one than 76 and lots of events going on, and it will be pleasant in mountain view for the art and wine festival today, temperatures will start off in the 70s at 11:00 and climbing to near 80 this afternoon and tomorrow it will be cooler, but still mostly sunny the whole day. also tomorrow in san francisco, we've got the giant race at at&t park and we'll start off with temperatures in the mid 50s and cool again in the morni g cool through morning hours. if you're sticking around after lunch it will start to warm up, more sunshine, 64 degrees and we're tracking conditions in the

shasta county area and temperatures are cool and relative humidity and a little bit warmer and they'll face hot and dry conditions and we'll still be in the 90s over the weekend and notice temperatures tumble midweek and that will be the same for us and we're keeping an eye on tropical storm florence which is expected to gain strength and be a hurricane category 4 by the time it reaches the east coast, midweek next week. so here's our accuweather seven-day forecast and mild in the 60s and still hot inland and low 90s and notice temperatures keep coming down and then we have a trough moving in so by midweek next week, expect much cooler numbers for the inland areas dropping by as much as 12 degrees and we still have a gorgeous weekend for the new

>> the dogs we're considering are the best of the best. >> they've been in the bay area for 75 years, but most of us only see the star students once they're fully trained. this documentary follows a litter of five puppies from birth as they learn what it takes to make it. >>. >> the non-profit works with 800 dogs a year, yes, only about 300 make it all of the way to becoming a life-changing companion for blind or visually impaired person. pick of the litter is the work of bay area filmmakers who first have to convince the guide dog ceo is that it was a good idea. >> what i'm hoping is people get a true understanding of what it takes to get to a guide dog. >> it spent two years documenting the dog and the humans who raise them. on neight n.the pa we don't give him kibel out of the crate. >> the producer is in awe.

unpleasant experience for a san carlos woman. 7 on your side's michael finney explained. >> this is all new. >> joyce enjoys her new furniture. her old sofa was so worn char y charities wouldn't accept it. she used tackle, an app that connects residents to home services. >> i used them before and the app works well. >> the workers came and joyce gave them a high rating. the next day she was driving down the street when she was stunned. there it was, her furniture sitting right in front of a neighbor's house just a couple of blocks away. >> turned to my left and i go -l >> teir w ao did not like it either. >> we were coming back home with my husband, and i saw this furniture and i'm, like, what is that? who put it there? joyce called tackle immediately to complain. she also contacted her neighbor

through the next door app to apologize. a day later when tackle hadn't picked up the furniture joyce grabbed all of the stuff and brought it back to her own home. >> i wanted to have a clear conscience, and i knew it wasn't her problem. this was my problem. >> her furniture sat in her truck and driveway for four days while she waited for tackle to take care of the mess. she finally grew frustrated and contacted 7 on your side. we contacted tackle. it said providers must comply with job-specific responsibilities and tackle's terms of service or risk using access to the platform. the furniture was removed the next day. >> did they return your money? >> yes, they did, finally, because of 7 on your side. >> oh. >> julia received a refund of $100. the two neighbors met for the first time when we brought them together for this interview. >> i am really pleased to have met my neighbor even the accident was not very pleasing.
