good morning bay area. let's get up and get going. this is abc 7 mornings. >> it's saturday, september 8th, good morning and thanks so much for being with us. i'm chris nguyen. let's start with the first look with the accuweather forecast. hare's frances dinglasan in for lisa argen. >> good morning, everyone. we are waking up to lots of clear skies along the bay area and still dealing with patchy, low clouds on parts of the peninsula coast, though and here's a look at your day planner, 12 hours ahead, we will still see lots of sunshine. so today at 7:00, sunrise at 6:45. temperatures will be in the upper 40s inland to near 60 around the bay and coast in the 50s. sunshine by this afternoon and then temperatures will be hot inland. low 90s today so a few degrees cooler compared to yesterday and around the bay, upper 70s to near 80 and at the coast still mild in the 60s.

lots of clear skies even by 7:00 this morning so you don't need a jacket if you're heading out unless you are by the coast today and cooling continues and i'll have a complete forecast coming up. >> thanks. >> developing news in delta county where the fire is still raging this morning. the earliest interstate 5 could re-open is tomorrow. flames are on both sides of the freeways forcing the closure of a nearly 50-mile stretch. the fire has now burned more than 31,000 acres and is 0% contained. cal frans says it needs to replace guardrails, signs and fix the pavements. >> although it's not hitting homes and everything, it's creating as much havoc as the traveling public because interstate 5 each corridor and the alternative rou doesnaka i lot longer and of course, the roads aren't built for that kind of traffic on a long-term basis. cal trans estimates several

million dollars in business are being lost each day due to the closure because trucks aren't getting through. weapons, human trafficking and worse, charges have been filed against the owners of bay area senior care homes and child day care. the defendants seen here allegedly targeted members of the filipino community, many of whom were new to the united states. the facilities are located in residential neighborhoods in south san francisco, daley city and pacifica. katie utehs has more on the investigation. >> a deceiving name, rainbow bright for a family-run business accused of dark conditions. >> rainbow bright was cheating not just their workers of their pay, not just the workers of theirt wasating aays state attorney general xavier becerra. the four adult and two child care facilities are tucked away in pacifica, daley city and

south san francisco neighborhoods. >> they have been here a long time. >> long time. the sign says we just stepped out, but on thursday, investigators raided the facilities, seizing the weapon seen here. a loaded handgun apparently found under a blanket in the garage of a day care. >> and then we saw a lot of packages were removed and we were praying they would close the place. joshua, noel, gerlen and carlina gamo currently face charges for human trafficking, rape and labor exploitation. >> they were forced to work up to 24 hours a day. they slept on the floors and in garages. they were locked outside sometimes in the rain when the owners were not home. >> reporter: becerra says the accused confiscated the workers' passports and threatened to call immigration. >> i am shocked they were

arrested for that. >> reporter: the accused are being held on bail ranging from 1 million to $2.5 million. court dates are set for later this month. katie utehs, abc 7 news. a judge has rejected a request by the alameda county public defender's office to bar the recording of conversations between suspects and their lawyers. the ruling stems from a video that emerged last month of a sergeant discussing the practice. the judge also put the sheriff's office on notice saying violations will be prosecuted. the alameda county district attorney's office is investigating to see if any cases have been compromised by recordings. time right now is 6:04. the date has been set for the ghost ship criminal trial. it will begin april 2nd. the defendants bothinvoluntary manslaughter for the warehouse fire.

their defense will involve diverting blame to others, the police departmidot do their job to prevent the fire. in the south bay community members are demanding answers and justice after a 28-year-old father of two was stabbed to death outside his family's home. abc 7 news reporter amanda del castillo has more. >> reporter: candles, balloons and messages written in chalk. this surrounds the home frankie santos shared with his high school sweetheart and two young sons. families across the city are being forced to mourn senseless deaths. >> it's getting a little rough. it's throughout san jose, obviously. >> reporter: that's why dozens marched friday in santos' honor. >> what do we want? justice? >> when do we want it? >> now! >> the crowd gathered in the same place where santos was killed in unincorporated san jose. this was the scene sunday morning. family members say santos returned home from a fantasy

football party and approached a truck parked along the street. the santa county sheriff's office said there was some sort of confrontation before santos was stabbed in his chest. he died at the hospital. >> i call his cell phone all of the time just to hear him talk, and those are things i will never get back again. >> reporter: emotion was easy to see friday. family members have come forward begging for information about who killed santos. relatives are now begging the city for change. >> i'm challenging the people that have the power to make a difference to do something about the violence. we're tired of all this violence. the sheriff's office shared this picture of the suspect vehicle caught on surveillance camera. take another look. it's a dark, full-sized gmc or chevrolet truck. witnesses say those inside were either white or hispanic men in their 20s. i'm outside the santa clara county shffice, amanda del castillo, abc 7 news.

the fbi is offing a $10,000 reward to catch a person who deliberately set a fire outside the planned parenthood office in watsonville. a surveillance camera caught the arsonist in the act on south green valley road. it happened at 4:00 in the morning on july 20th. the fire smoldered until someone called 911. cal trans plans to stop traffic on the bay bridge to demolish the old part of the eastern span. crews will use explosives like they've done in the past. a blast like that will destroy two of the support piers. abc 7 news was on the eastern span yesterday when crews finished preparing for today's implosion. you can expect traffic to be stopped some time between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. >> out with the old and in with the new. the metropolitan transportation commission is looking to spend $200 million to upgrade the

clipper card system. abc 7 news reporter carlos salcedo has the details. for more than a decade public transit riders in the bay area have been able to use clipper cards to pay their fares getting in and out much quicker. >> i use it for the bus, bart and the ferry. >> reporter: the system is obsolete, sometimes taking days to update a rider's balance on the card. >> the card is not a live card. it doesn't have live balances on it. the card is a stored value card. >> the metropolitan transportation commission is in the final stages of approving a systems upgrade worth $195 million. instead of a card, you'll be able to use your mobile device to tap in and out. >> they can find out how much money they have on their card right away. they can put more money on their card right away and they can put more money on their kids' cards right away and none of those fu now. >> the tech company has waited long enough with other cities

this is what cleanup crews found when they entered an air bnb in san francisco. abc 7 news anchor dion lim talked to the stunned property manager. >> it was horrible, horrible. the person who was renting here had defecated through the entire home and urinated all over the place. >> reporter: this is what realtor and property manager ian lim walked into just a few days ago and prompted him to call in private clean, a crime scene cleaning crew. >> it was something like out of a horror move. >> it was pretty bad program people walking by could smell. you hadding joers stopping by saying, wow! what's that smell? >> the $5.3 million home ransacked by the renter inside. >> this is a queen bed with the headboard right here and there was blood stains. >> reporter: to give you an idea of just how bad this home was. take a look at this bucket. it's filled with about 150 needles, most of them for drug use. >> this suite was rented for

fairfield, concord and livermore in the upper 50s right now. this pretty shot is from sutro looking at downtown san francisco. we have that thin marine layer and you see those clouds creeping in and it will clear quickly today, much more quickly compared to yesterday. so here's the forecast and what you can expect. we are dealing with patchy morning clouds, but lots of bright sunshine early on today. the heat starts to ease this weekend for inland neighborhoods and get ready for much cooler temperatures by the middle of next week. highs today will range from 60s at the coast to low 90s inland and oakland, and san jose 82 and we'll see 90s, and santa rosa getting up to 89 degrees and lake port 90 and morgan hill warmer at 93 degrees. it will be a nice day to head to the beaches, but it will be

cool, as well and 10 to 20 miles per hour and it will keep most temperatures in the low 60s and half moon bay and santa cruz will warm up nicely and a high index today so bring the sunshine. you'll need it today including at the beaches. if you're headed to mountain view today it will be gorgeous for the art and wine festival, sunny and warm, temperatures climbing into the upper 70s and tomorrow much of the same with slightly cooler numbers. also for tomorrow there's the giant race at at&t park in san francisco. it will be comfortable at the 7:00 hour for runners. 54 degrees cool, and then sunny by 10:00 and then starting to climb into the mid-60s after lunchtime. here is the accuweather seven-day forecast. so enjoy the beautiful saturday we have ahead. mild temperatures at the coast, hot inland and tomorrow we'll still see a wide range of temperatures, but notice inland areas and around the bay will be

with a quick look at the weather. frances dinglasan is tracking conditions where you live. hi, frances. >> good morning, everyone. very limited cloud cover this morning and that will allow lots of sunshine earlier on today. here's live doppler 7 and patchy low clouds along parts of the coast and spreading into a little bit of the bay. temperatures right now in the 40s, 50s and almost near 60 in a couple of spots. upper 40s through novato and napa, san jose, 58 degrees right now and here's how it plays out. we will still see low clouds along the coast where temperatures climb into the 60s. by lunchtime we will see low 80s inland and the llots of 70s aro the bay and we'll see 60s at the coast and 70s to near 80 and low 90s inland. it will still be pleasant by 7:00 and grab a jacket if you're staying out late because the clouds will come back in and it
