it's saturday september 8th, good morning and thanks for joining us. i'm chris nguyen. let's start with the forecast. here is frances dinglasan in for lisa argen. >> we woke up to clear skies in many neighborhood, but we're still dealing with patchy low clouds and satellite image, low clouds filling in along the coast and you can see it here with the live shot as we look from the east bay toward san francisco. here is your 12-hour day planner and dealing with patchy clouds over the next couple of hours and temperatures in the 50s and 60s, but bright sun shine earlier on and then this afternoon, temperatures will still be hot inland. low 90s around the bay, 70s to near 80. it will be a pleasant evening tonight with sun setting at 7:28. mostly clear for areas except at the coast, but temperatures will start to tumble next week and i'll have the details coming up. >> let's get to news in shasta county where the delta fire is still raging. the earliest enter state 5 could

reopen is tomorrow. flames on both sides of the freeway forcing the closure of the nearly 50-mile stretch. the fire has burned 37,000 acres and is 0% contained. cal trans says it needs to replace guardrail, signs and they also need to fix the pavement. >> although it's not hitting the homes and everything, it's creating as much havoc as the traveling public because interstate 5, each corridor in our alternative routes doesn't carry the capacity and it takes a lot longer and of course, the roads aren't built for that traffic on a long-term basis. >> cal trans, estimates several million dollars in business are being lost each day due to the closure because trucks aren't getting through. in other news, weapon, human trafficking and worse, charges have been filed against the owner of senior bay homes and child day care. they allegedly targeted members of the filipino community, many of whom were new to the united

states. the cities were located in south san francisco, daley city and pacifica. abc 7 news reporter katie utehs has more on the investigation. >> a deceiving name, rainbow bright for a family-run business accused of dark conditions. >> rainbow bright was cheating not just their workers of their pay, not just the workers of their dignity, but was cheating you and me as taxpayers. >> reporter: about $8.5 million says state attorney general xavier becerra. the four adults and two child care facilities are tucked away in pacifica, daley city and south san francisco neighborhood. >> they have been here a long time. but we never know what happened actually si>>eporr:he se spped the facilities, seizing the weapons seen here. a loaded handgun apparently

found under a blanket in the garage of a day care. >> and then we saw a lot of packages were removed and we were praying they'll close the place. >> reporter: joshua, noel, gerlen and carlina gamo currently face 59 criminal charges for human trafficking, rape and labor exploitation. >> they were forced to work up to 24 hours a day. they slept on the floors and in garages. they were locked outside sometimes in the rain when the owners were not home. >> reporter: becerra says the accused confiscated the workers' passports and threatened to call immigration. >> i am shocked. like, they were arrested for that. >> reporter: now the accused are being held on bail ranging from $1 million to $2.5 million. curt dates are set for later this month. katie utehs, abc 7 news. a judge has rejected a request by the public defender's office to bar the recording of conversations between suspects and their lawyers. the rulingeo

that emerged last month of a sergeant discussing the practice, but the judge also put the sheriff's office on notice saying violations will be prosecuted. the alameda county district attorney's office is investigating to see if any cases have been compromised by recording. a date has been set for the ghost ship criminal trial. it will begin april 2nd, defendants derek almena and max harris both face 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter for the december 2016 warehouse fire. their attorny say their defense will involve diverting blame to others that includes the fire and police departments and other public officials who they say did not do their job to prevent the fire. in the south bay, community members are demanding answers and justice after a 28-year-old father of two was stabbed to death outside of his family's home. abc 7 news reporter amanda del castillo has the story. >> candles, balloons and messages written in chalk.

th growingeml surrounds the home frankie santos shares with his high school sweetheart and his two young sons. relatives say too often, families across the cityseless deaths. >> it's getting a little rough. it's throughout san jose, obviously. >> reporter: that's why dozens marched friday in santos' honor. >> what do we want? justice! >> when do we want it? >> now! >> the crowd gathered in the same place where santos was killed along raymond avenue in unincorporated san jose. this was the scene sunday morning. family members say santos returned home from a fantasy football party and approached a truck parked across the street. there was some sort of confrontation before santos was stabbed in his chest. he died at the hospital. >> i call his cell phone all of the time just to hear him talk, and those things i will never get back again. >> emotion was easy to see

friday. family members have come forward begging for information about who killed santos. relatives are now begging the city for change. i'm challenging the people that have the power to make a difference, to do something about the violence. we're tired of all this violence. >> the sheriff's office shared this picture of the suspect vehicle caught on surveillance camera. take another look at the dark, full-sized gmc or chevrolet truck. witnesses say those inside were either white or hispanic men in their 20s. i'm outside the santa clara county sheriff's office. i'm amanda del castillo abc 7 news. a former uc berkeley basketball star who now plays for the boston celtics has been arrested after allegedly assaulting, strangling and kidnapping owpear in court on m he will face multiple charges. the walnut creek native is being guarded by police at a hospital for evaluation.nt t celticsaid

are mainly along the coast and trying to push into the bay, but they haven't been successful. here is a live shot from sutro looking from san francisco where it's currently 56 degrees and oakland warming up to 60 and san jose, 60, as well and as we head to half moon bay still cloudy there, 55 degrees and from the east bay hills, we're looking west across the bay bridge and into san francisco where you can see the more compressed marine layer and the sunshine will start to show earlier on at the bay and it's still cool through parts of the north bay and santa rosa, 52, and low 60s right now in fairfield and in concord. a beautiful shot from mount tam, looking towards the top of sutro and that's where we're finding the low clouds. and here's the forecast which you can expect for today. patchy morning clouds and lots of bgh sunshine thisteor eryone weekend. so we are dropping from the mid-90s in the inland area to the low 90s so still going to be

quite warm and then it's going to be much cooler by the middle of the week and this is a water vapor satellite image so we had this warm, dry air mass and over the last three hours and you notice it's starting south and it is weakening and as it does, the warmth weakens as well and then what we have going on next week is the trough moving in and the cooler air is going to drop temperatures for everyone especially inland neighborhoods by midweek. highs will range from 60s at the coast to low 90s inland and plenty of sunshine for everyone. half moon bay, 63 and san francisco, 67, oakland will be nice and comfortable, 74 degrees for the as game today and san jose, 82. low 90s and 92 in fairfield and antioch and livermore and look for mid to upper 80s and napa, 84. santa rosa, 89 degrees and it will be a great day to head to the art and wine festival today for much othe

same, just slightly cooler. also tomorrow, there's the giant race in san francisco's at&t park. cloudy and cooler in the 50s which is great for runners during the early morning hours and then we'll get sunshine as well in the afternoon, about 64 degrees by 1:00. we're keeping an eye on tropical storm florence because it is expected to gain strength to hurricane category level 4 by thursday, and then we'll be keeping an eye on this as it right now is headed towards the southeastern coast. here's the accuweather seven-day forecast. mild at the coast in the 60s and hot inland, low 90s and tomorrow we'll still see a wide range of temperatures and notice it will be coming down a couple of degrees and the trend continues into monday and into tuesday and we'll be well below average by midweek. temperatures inland dropping by as much as 12 degrees compared to today and about six degrees around the bay, but at the coast we'll only drop by a little bit because we'll be staying in the

>> theosis was not good and we were initially sent home with hospice. >> her parents chris and brandy say surgeons at the at the at ta children's hospital oakland had a plan. first, they removed the tumor, congenital glioblastoma. >> we're hoping that the the kids that come after scarlet that have the same tumor and other tumors that are difficult to treat can come up with treatments that are less toxic. >> reporter: now oncologist san ina mueller and her colleagues the ucsf are leading a clinical trial that will sequence the genetic makeup of individual brain tumors looking at their unique traits. the goal is to find multiple ways to attack the tumor using a cocktail of drugs. >> we will not have success just applying micatio mecations. >> researchers hoping that existing drugs, not typically used in cancer treatment will eventually be part of the mix. slowing the tumor down to make

degrees and i want to take you up to mount tam where we see lots of blue skies right now. santa rosa is 57 and there was earlier patchy fog this morning, but didn't cause too much trouble and napa, fairfield and concord in the low 60s right now and from the east bay hills we're looking out west towards the bay bridge and san francisco and the very compressed marine layer right there, you can see and that will dissipate quickly, but here's the forecast for today. patchy morning clouds mainly along the peninsula coast. bright sunshine today and the heat eases this weekend and we're dropping from low 80s to mid-90s and we're dropping toward the middle of next week as the trough moves in from the northwest. it will be hot in gill roy and 95 degree, and san jose, 82 and santa claire a santa cruz, good beach day, 76 for you and 70s for the peninsula, as well and look for 77 at redwood city and the sea breeze will keep you in

the 60s all day long and downtown san francisco, 67 degrees and daley city, 62. look for 80s through parts of the north bay and santa rosa warming up to 89 and we will see a few more low 90s as well through ukiah and lake port. t-shirt and shorts weather, 70s for the most part with the exception of hercules. hey, we're at 77. fremont, 79 degrees and for temperatures to come down a bit, in fact, walnut creek 91. so still hot weather continues there. also in san francisco, if you love chocolate there's the ghirardelli chocolate festival. temperatures hovering in the low 60s for much of the day tomorrow will be much of the same, cool and breezy with sunshine and just slightly cooler temperatures. so always have an extra layer or jacket handy. tomorrow there's oakland pride. plenty of sunshine, definitely
