map up next. a wildfire is forcing evacuations and prompting road closures. >> we want to show a map showing the irving fire. it's burnt 100 acres in the area samuel p. taylor state park. that's a tenth of a mimle. people living on mountain king road, portola avenue, alamo way down to barranca road were evacuated to juanitas school. marin county fire says firefighters are doelg with steep terrain but they are making some progress. last check, the fire was 10% contained. amy hollyfield is in marin county and she'll have another update coming up at 5:30. snell fire evacuees are back

home. the fire is burning 40 miles north of napa. it's burnt nearly 2,500 acres and it's 45% contained. >> and it has been nearly a year since a firestorm raced through parts of the north bay. this morning the marin county board of supervisors will hold a meeting that includes a report about lessons learned from the fires that killed 44 people. >> sonoma county is working on a more effective emergency alert system. abc7 news reporter kate larson went inside sonoma's emergency operation center where crews tested that system for the first time. >> reporter: sonoma county emergency management that started 300,000 calls that started like this -- >> there will be a test of the emergency alert systems on september 12th. >> we're testing our warning system. >> reporter: christopher godly is the sonoma county emergency

service. monday's soco alert called all land lines and subscribers to the free service. >> not just in case of wildfires but any natural hazard or threat to the public. it might be a hazardous material spill on highway 101 or a flood or a tsunami threat along the pacific coast. >> we want to talk to those who are directly impacted. >> reporter: zachary hamel says it's not meant to call hundreds of thousands at once but to target specific areas in danger, like, for example, if there was a hazmat spill on highways 101 and 1, hamel could send an alert to the 400,000 homes in the area. >> got an alert at 3:30 in the morning that

the victims happening across the country, including right here in the bay area. >> vallejo firefighters will be holding a public memorial at fire station 21 and 343 american flags will be displayed by the menlo park fire protection district to honor the firefighters who died that day. and a task force in menlo park helped with rescue and recovery efforts in new york city and matt keller is live in san francisco. their annual remembrance ceremony, which starts in less than two hours from now. hi there, matt. good morning. >> reporter: the public is invited to any ceremonies, honoring those from the 9/11 terror attacks. here's video from last year's ceremony. a very somber event. this was at station 7 in san francisco. it's hard to believe it's been 17 years since the

fire engines and trucks will flank the driveway on both sides. firefighters will assemble attention in front of the station's flagpole. then the time of the south tower collapse, three sets of three bell rings will chime signifying the last alarm. at 7:02, all the names of the 342 new york firefighters killed on 9/11 will be read allowed. flags will remain at half staff for the rest of the day. reporting live, matt keller, abc news. a team of oakland firefighters is driving across the country to north carolina, supplies they'll need when hurricane florence hits the east coast. that 16-member crew is trained for water rescue.

right now florence is a powerful category 4 hurricane. this video shows you what it looks like in the eye of the storm. florence is expected to make landfall on thursday. people in north and south carolina, also virginia, being told to evacuate. the governors of those states have declared states of emergencies ahead of the storm. major airlines are letting you change your reservations if you're traveling through airports affected by florence and they include alaska, delta, front tear, jetblue, southwest. you're never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. florence had 145-mile-an-hour winds when we went to bed. it's down to 130. that doesn't matter. still going to be a devastating hurricane. let's see where it goes and when it finally gets there. the track has wobbled a little to the north but it's still hitting the outer banks of north carolina with its most powerful bunches, about 130 miles an hour. that hasn't changed. the fact it's coming in when

it's dark is the scariest part because the water level it is will rise, the outer banks will be covered by the storm surge, the marshy area on the other side will be covered and a possibility of 30 inches of rain through north carolina, virginia, west virginia and maryland. inland flooding will be a huge concern along with, have you ever been to the carolinas, they have a lot of pine trees, they're shallow rooted, they come up easily meaning tons of power outages. we've got 50 in santa rosa. 60 in brentwood. 68 in antioch. most of us in the mid to upper 50s. out and about today, strong sunshine. have your sunglasses and sunscreen. small craft advisory out on the bay once again. it begins at 1:00 this afternoon and goes until 9:00. it starts about an hour earlier to two hours earlier than it did yesterday. as far as our temperatures, 54

this morning. 65 at 10:00. 75 by noon. hanging out in the low 80s by the afternoon hours. 67 by 8:00. we'll take a look at the rest of the accuweather seven-day forecast. there's a lot to talk about. >> i just got good news. i'm surprised how quickly they were able to clear this. we had a big rig who had its brakes locked up. they were stuck around treat boulevard just north of there in walnut creek. you can see some brake lights but we just got the all-clear from chp saying all lanes are back open. the sigalert is canceled so that's great news for the contra costa county commute here. there we go. that's where the incident was. you can see things are still heavy from 242. if you're just about to head out the door, you can take pleasant hill road as an alternate. give it another 15 minutes or so and that will be clear. next traffic update coming up around 5:20. investigators having

here's a look at our air quality as cool, rolls in. the oakland raiders hit the field again in less than a week. they'll be on the road taking on the denver broncos this sunday. and it comes after a disappointing start to the new season. a 33-13 loss to the l.a. rams last night. rumors of a lawsuit are also looming. the raiders are planning to move to a new stadium in las vegas in two years, but the city of

husband, shanealthutrities tha h goodidn'te exist. thefiremen for what they're providing our state and then have it all be fraudulent is heartbreaking. >> reporter: we'll have interviews allegedly scammed by bemis coming up. with your "gma" first look, kendis gibson, abc news. health officials have confirmed the first west nile virus in california this year. the state department of health says two people have died from the virus. one lived in yuba county, the other in glenn county. as of last week, there were 56 reported human cases of west nile virus in 21 different california counties. a total of 422 dead birds from 18 counties also tested positive. officials say we're still in a peak period of west nile virus transmission so they're urging people to take precaution against mosquito bites.

before 6:45. alameda county restaurants say they will stop closing pop-ups as lon as they follow food safety laws. last month health inspectors shut down several pop-ups because they lacked proper permits. officials are working out the details of a permit program. they hope to enact clearer rules by october 8th. ? the north bay, a push to stop teen smoking. marin county supervisors will discuss an ordinance that would ban the sale of flavored products. county officials say the flavored products get teens on smoking because the candy flavor masks the smoke taste. e-cigarettes between high school and middle school students increased 800% between 2011 and 2015. more americans are relying on siri, alexa andgoogst peoplet siance ask themulactivities,

miles an hour. that will blow smoke towards san francisco. winds are fairly calm this morning. you can see there's hardly any clouds out there. enjoy a lot of sunshine early. temperatures in the upper 40s to upper 50s. where we started off yesterday. we'll end up pretty close to yesterday's temperatures. cooler at the coast. 70s around the bay and 80s inland at 4:00. 60s and 70s at noon. remember, it will be a little breezy this afternoon. let's get a check of the morning commute. what's up? >> not too much at this point. we did have earlier trouble spots. we're looking better in both of those areas. taking you into the 101 corridor in san francisco. we did have some overnight roadwork. lanes scheduled to be blocked for bridge work until 6:00 a.m. on southbound 101 approaching cesar chavez. looks like that's picking up quickly. a couple moments ago t to 11 miles an hour. looks like it's faster than that

now. bay bridge toll plaza, meters on at exactly 5:30. breaking new in the north bay where a wildfire is burning at a state park. >> evacuations are in effect in marin county. you can see where the fire is burning. it's happening at samuel p. taylor state park. >> reporter: we're at the evacuation center. some out here in it the cars. we're told they didn't know until midnight they weren't going to be able to go back home. here's a look at the fire burning last night. overnight marin fire says it is starting to make progress on containment. they got it about 10% contained. residents say it was scary. the fire was huge. as evacuating, they couldn't help but remember last year's deadly fire. >> the sonoma fire is fresh in our minds and our community center was an evacuation center

for ten days last october for the sa none ma fires. and now evacuation center for our own community. >> reporter: those living along mountain king road and alamo road are evacuated. firefighters say about 20 to 30 structures are being threatened. the red cross is at the community center offering help to anyone who needs it. live from marin county, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> thank you. to a different interstate 5 in shasta county is reopening but they could change it again if flames change

agent calls a cesspool of cancer. it's affecting police officers, firefighters and federal agents. >> only now beginning to understand and witness the long-term effects of that work because nobody knows what tomorrow may bring. 9/11 related deaths include 150 police officers. that's nearly eight times more than those who died on the day of the attacks. more than a dozen firefighters have also died in the last year. howard streets between third and fourth will close this morning for the global climate action summit that kicks off tomorrow. governor brown is hosting the event. the governor is hoping the summit motivates more action on climate change.

the event begins tomorrow. yesterday people gathered at san francisco's exploratory yum to talk about biodiversity. >> this is wonderful for the world. not just this country or other countries, but for the world because we're all living in this planet. new details in that frightening muni bus crash. the driver is a 66-year-old man who has been a long-time bus officer. dash cam video. veering across lombard street. we brought this to you as breaking news. the bus hit a parked car, snapped a tree and crashed into a business. jenis patel couldn't believe what was happening in front of him. >> it was a total shock.

i can't even say a word. for at least ten minutes, my entire body was chaking. >> the bus driver will be treated for life-threatening injuries. three passengers are recovering after getting hurt. officials hope to learn what went wrong from the on board cameras. a new effort to keep you safe in ride shares. today's san francisco district attorney will announce a new safety campaign and this comes after several recent ride share attacks around the bay area. we don't have details but a representative from uber will be at the conference. one in five marijuana products fail state safety tests. the state began requiring the tests in july. the associated press over the last couple of months nearly 11,000 samples were tested and 2,000 failed. some products failed because of unacceptable levels of pesticide and bacteria. industry experts say the

by noon it's 62. 59 by 8:00. east bay valley, look at that. the 90s are gone. we start off at 65 at 8:00 to 77 at noon to mid-80s in the afternoon hours. what a gorgeous evening. 70 at 8:00. our last stop will be the peninsula where it will be in the 50s. 68 at noon and hanging out in the mid-70s. jacket weather, 62 by 8:00. we started off with a potentially really serious situation. what's going on now? >> well, fortunately, that did clear. we're still working on recovering in the walnut creek area. doesn't look that great right now, does it? d't bie we have anythinghat now. looks like we're having a tough time bouncing back from that.

the world trade center. let's take a live look at new york city. this is where family members of those who died will be honored. 8:46 is the time when american airlines flight 11 going from boston to los angeles, of course, never made it to its destination. it struck the north tower. a few minutes later, 9:03, united airlines flight traveling from boston to l.a. struck the south tower. that's when we knew this was no accident and that our country was being attacked. >> so many people know where they were. we want to show you images from earlier this morning as a flag was unfurled at the pentagon where american flight 77 crashed into the pentagon. here's that moment from earlier this morning. in remembrance of the victims that died at the pentagon that day.

it is 5:54 in the south bay. a generation is keeping a beloved tradition alive. christmas will shine bright thanks to $15,000 donation from owners of garden city construction. the regular donor, orchard supply, backed out. the oakland raiders honored two young heroes during the season's ome opener. >> thanks to them, the family of five and all their cats made it out alive. >> 19-year-old sara coolson and gabby smith saw a house on fire as they headed home livermore. they ran inside and helped the people escape the flames. last night they all got together at the coliseum.
