it quickly moved east. like you said, extremely smoky out here. the smoke blew with the wind in various directions, and we dodged around it to get you this video. the leading wall of flame climbed up and down the dry grass lands in the center of grizzly island south of suisun city. 18 engines from 8 different fire departments responded here to keep the brushfire from spreading. they cut firebreaks with dozers. crews from the potrero hills landfill worked the edges with water trucks. >> gusts up to 20. the smoke is impacting kind of the city of dixon, vacaville areas. so unfortunately, if we can get it out a little quicker it doesn't impact as much people. i think we did an okay job today of trying to catch it where we could. >> no homes threaten order damage? >> no. >> no structures damaged either.

radio as well as television. dozens of people are displaced afer a fire at a large homeless encampment in oakland. sky 7 shows the damage on east 12th street near 22nd avenue. firefighters say several makeshift structures and tents went up in flames. quick action saved part of the encampment. no one was hurt, however, a body was discovered in a tent afterward. the death appeared to be from natural causes. a missing 1-year-old boy from oakland you'll be glad to hear was found safe this morning. he had just been seen at the mcdonald's in may ward when he was dropped off with a baby-sitter yesterday. that was the last time he was seen. police say his mother was arrested earlier this morning on an unrelated criminal warrant. she indicated she did not know where her son was. so investigators immediately started looking for him. a few hours after putting his picture out to the public, the child was found. >> he had a group of individuals who brought him down to our police department about 9:30 this morning. he was safe. he looked in good spirits.

>> police say the people who brought the 1-year-old to them are either relatives or know the family. he was taken to the hospital to be checked out as precaution, but expected to be okay. a san francisco muni driver is still fighting for his life one day after his bus went out of control and slammed into a building. another driver's dash cam captured what happened on lombard street in the marina district yesterday. an official describes the injuries as being life threatening. one passenger was released from the hospital today. two others had already been recovering at home. investigators still haven't said what caused that crash. california wants to be the epicenter of the climate change action movement. that focus shifts to san francisco tomorrow with the kickoff of the global action summit. >> state and local leaders along with representatives from 39 countries will be there. abc 7 news reporter lyanne melendez is live with a look at who the players are. lyanne? >> san francisco wants to be remembered as a place that reenergized the climate movement with the help of other countries

getting even windier. skies are clear and it's getting cooler. sunny skies, breezy conditions. high clouds to the north, they're going the sweep through during the overnight hours. check thought beautiful view from mount tam looking down on to the pay and parts of san francisco where it is 66 degrees right now. 69 in oakland. mountain view, 76. san jose, 88. 88 at morgan hill. 63 at half moon bay. this is a lovely view as well from the east bay hills camera: camera:00. 86 at fairfield, and 84 in livermore. and the view looking westward from sutro tower, these are our forecast features. it will be partly cloudy and breezy overnight. cooler than average weather will be with us into the weekend, and we'll see minor warming beginning sunday, monday into early next week. overnight we'll see mainly clear skies. but a few high clouds will pass by, and we'll see some patches of low clouds form along the coastline. overnight lows mostly in the low

to mid-50s. a little cooler in parts of the north bay where we'll see some mid- to upper 40s. taking a logistic at your day planner, 7:00 tomorrow morning, skies will be bright, but there may be some patchy low clouds or fog near the coast. then by midday, we'll see that passing high cloud mass that i talked about. in fact, they'll be passing high clouds throughout the remainder of the day. it won't warm up much tomorrow. we'll see mid- to upper 60s inland at noon, and only mid to upper 70s at 4:00 p.m. in our inland areas. so not much of a warm-up. here is a closer look starting in the south bay. highs tomorrow will range from 72 at santa clara to 73 at san jose. what a range. 76 at morgan hill. on the peninsula, low 70s. 72 at palo alto and mountain view. we'll see highs in the upper 60 -- upper 50s, rather, to low 60s on the coast. about 62 at half moon bay. 60 at pacific california. downtown san francisco will top out at 64 degrees tomorrow under breezy conditions. up in north bay, look for highs of 70 in san rafael to 72 at

sonoma. 37, napa. east bay high, 68 berkeley, 69 san leandro. 70 at union city. not much of a range there. and our inland east bay areas will see highs in the mainly mid- to upper 70s. about 75 at walnut creek to 76 in livermore to 77 at fairfield. and concord. taking a look at the tropical pacific, i'll give you a look at the atlantic a little later. right now looking at tropical storm olivia. maximum sustained winds 60 miles per hour. this storm is headed toward central part of the hawaiian island chain, expected to pass through the central part of the islands by midday wednesday, just southeast of honolulu. maximum sustained winds at that point about 45 miles per hour, but there is still rain and the flooding that is the greater concern. much greater here than the possible wind damage. on we go to a look at our accuweather seven-day forecast. and you can see a much cooler than average pattern for the remainder of the week. inland highs reach only to the mid- to upper 70s through friday. only about 60 on the coast. then a minor warming trend

live in north carolina where the governor is warning people not to stay and ride out this storm. emily? >> ama, it was actually sunny most of the day here in wrightsville beach, north carolina. but there is some level of worry in the air, even as a lot of people still out here on the beach. but the people who live here are rushing to protect their homes and businesses before this category 4 storm hits. the frenzy before florence. millions of people along the east coast bracing for what could be the worst storm to hit the carolinas since the 1950s. >> we are in a very deadly and important game of chess with hurricane florence. >> today officials trying to send the message florence is not like previous storms. >> even if you have ridden out storms before, this one is different. don't bet your life on riding out a monster. >> president trump says government agencies are ready. >> we are sparing no expense.

we are totally prepared. we're ready. we're as ready as anybody has ever been. >> officials reversing the highway direction to ease the massive expected evacuation. >> it's just a headache because if you leave, then it's hard to get back. >> in virginia, even the navy racing against the clock to prepare, moving more than 100 planes and helicopters out of harm's way. and now category 4 florence expected to restrengthen overnight with devastating winds of 150 miles per hour. florence now forecast to make landfall in the early hours of friday morning. >> i hope it don't come again. >> an unwelcome guest slamming into the east coast. >> this brings tears to your eyes to think you're going to have to relive this all over again. >> even after florence makes landfall, forecasterser from dick it will sit over the coast dumping up to 30 inches of rain

really setting the stage for massive flooding and damage. >> we see all the people behind you on the beach. you mention there are still tourists out there. are they planning the leave or are they going to try to wait it out? >> yeah, there has been a lot of people out here at the beach today, and really a mixed bag as far as what people plan to do. as we get closer and florence gets closer to this location. for the most part, the tourist is talked to say they are headed out early. some airlines offered waivers, so they're taking them up on that, getting out of town. a lot of locals, a vast majority of people who live right close to here, they say they are sticking to this area. they're staying put, and they're going to ride it out, despite all those warnings not to do that. ama? >> thank you. help is on the way from california to help deal with that hurricane. a swift water rescue team left oakland overnight. in southern california, teams from los angeles and orange county were sent to virginia as well as north carolina. >> people in hawaii are gearing up as tropical storm olivia closes in.

many people say they are already prepared as hurricane lane that passed through recently. but there is some concern about shipments getting on to the island. the coast guard is telling ships they cannot enter many local ports without permission. public schools on maui, molokai and lanai will be closed tomorrow because of the storm. >> let's get right to spencer christian for a look at the path of hurricane florence. >> tracking both of these storms, spencer. >> looking at hurricane florence now, watches and warnings have been issued for a wide expanse here along the south atlantic coast from virginia beach, virginia, down to charleston, south carolina. this is, again, a powerful and dangerous storm. category 4 hurricane florence with maximum sustained winds right now of 140 miles per hour. so that actually expected to gain a little bit more intensity as it moves toward the west-northwest. and then make lawful, at least if it stays on this track, make lawful midday friday as a category 3 somewhere along the north carolina coast here, close to wilmington.

then it's expected to slowly move inland, and it won't stall completely, but if it moves slowly, it will dump more rainfall and cause more widespread and severe flooding. that's a major concern right now. we're looking at projected rainfall totals. some locations right along the coast here may receive as much as two to three feet of snow -- of snow! i'm looking at this bright color here. two to three feet of rainfall. and you can imagine what kind of havoc that would wreak with that much rainfall. it would just take so long for it to recede. so people are definitely in the danger zone here. they should take the watches and warnings seriously. dan? >> okay, spencer, thank you very much. with less than three months before the critical midterm elections, the special counsel investigation continues to hang over the white house every day. the president's son, don jr. is now weighing in while the foreign policy adviser who offered to set up meeting between candidate trump and vladimir putin is explaining his role in all of this. abc news reporter lana zak has

election. a surprise move today in utah. the woman convicted in the 2002 kidnapping of elizabeth smart is being freed from prison. authorities announced today that 17-year-old wanda barzee will be allowed to go free because they miscalculated the time previously served. barzee pleaded guilty to kidnapping smart from her salt lake city bedroom and helping keep her captive for nine months. barzee will be freed a week from tomorrow. no comment yet from smart who is now 30 years old. an armed man was taken into custody at a southern california medical center after he threw a chair through a window and pulled out a gun. this happened at a kaiser office building in downey, outside los angeles. a witness said it all started after the man demanded to be let into a locked office. police say there is no evidence he fired any shots and no one was hurt. well, still ahead here, a new effort to keep you safe in ride shares. we're going show you san francisco's enow cones.celebrat anniversary today. and a live look at the san

francisco. kristen sze shows us how much pollution a simple hamburger create. >> how much does your hamburger cost? not in cash, but in carbon emissions. check the balance. >> this is a project called in the balance. it's interactive installation that help us visualize the carbon footprint of different type of food we eat every day. >> the weight of each cube is different depending on how many carbon emissions each generate. one gets feed lot beef. the over side is balanced with other foods of varying carbon emissions. >> you can see this huge contrast once that is like a pile of food and the other side is one single ingredient. >> if you consider ground beef about the size of a mcdonald's patty for the same amount of carbon emissions it took to produce, you can eat 6 ounces of salmon, 4 ounces of pasta, 12 ounces of tomatoes, 2 ounces of eggs, and 2 ounces of oranges. >> i think people have the idea that sean sustainable food is a
