missing back in june. >> today's his birthday, and his family is holding a candlelight vigil tonight. meantime, neighbors and some city officials are asking new questions over how police are handling the case. >> that's right. abc 7 news reporter vic lee is live south of market with new developments tonight. vic? >> well, dan, that vigil will be held in front of ryan egg's house, which is in the middle of this block on clara street. now, his family arrived here from florida yesterday. as you said, there are still a lot of important questions. foremost, the medical examiner has yet to identify that badly mutilated body, and there still are no charges against the two persons of interest. >> i certainly have had a lot of nightmares thinking what happened inside that house. >> scot-free was the neighbor who called police, asking for a welfare check on his friend brian egg. that was in august. the 65-year-old man had been missing for some two months. egg's sister in florida filed a

missing person's report. on both occasions, police say officers received no response when they went to the house, and they saw nothing suspicious. in mid-august, neighbors called police again after seeing a crime scene cleaning crew at the home. this time police searched the house and found a body in a fish tank, a body without a head or hands, presumably the mutilated remains of brian egg. they detained two persons of interest. one of them lance silva, who is being held at alameda county jail on another case. free and other neighbors are angry at the way police responded. >> they should have taken it more seriously from the beginning. >> i do think that they need to explain what happened. because on the surface, it doesn't look great. >> san francisco sylvester chairs the board's public safety committee. >> i had met with the police chief. they are doing their internal investigation of what happened and whether they followed best practice. >> we're talking about a wellness check.

and senior citizens, if someone fell inside, couldn't get up, died inside, you won't know unless you enter. >> police commissioner petra de jesus also wants answers, what she hopes to get at tomorrow's commission meeting. >> the family had called and done a missing person's report you. imagine you go and find a way into the house. >> well, that police commission will -- that police commission meet willing be held tomorrow afternoon at city hall. now family tells us that they may have a statement letter on at the vigil. we will, of course, keep you updated. vic lee, abc 7 news. >> okay, vic, thank you. developing news now in solano county. a fast-moving wildfire on grizzly island in the suisun city area has scorched hundreds of acres in a matter of hours. it's moving very fast. abc 7 reporter leslie brinkley is near the fire line and spoke with firefighters just a short time ago. what are they saying tonight, leslie? >> well, over 500 acres burned

here. it's believe the fire started here along this road at what's called rush ranch nature city. it quickly moved east. you can see the black charred earth here along grizzly island road. they're still investigating what triggered the fire. no cause yet for this aggressive brushfire that started near a nature center as it burned toward a dump. the leading wall of flame climbed up and down the dry grass lands in the center of grizzly island south of suisun city. the plumes of smoke became several plumes by early afternoon as 18 engines from eight different fire departments responded here to keep the brushfire from spreading. they cut firebreaks with dozers. crews from the potrero hills landfill worked the edges with water trucks. >> it's definitely one day we have 15-miles-per-hour gust to 20. the smoke is impacting kind of the city of dixon, vacaville areas. so unfortunately, if we can get it out a little quicker than we

can, it doesn't impact as much people. but i think we did an okay job today of trying to catch writ we could. so. >> no homes threaten order damaged? >> no homes threatened. >> trucks headed to the landfill lined up down the road. and some found creative ways to pass the time. >> watching white smoke. it's putting us back hours and hours. i don't know when we'll get home. >> this is now a mop-up operation as crews look for hot spots. in suisun city, leslie brinkley, abc 7 news. >> thanks. meantime, a wildfire in marin county has spread to 115 acres. the irving fire broke out in samuel p. taylor state park near lagunitas last night, as we reported. containment is now at 35%. evacuation orders are in place for part of san geronimo valley. the fire department says access in the area is difficult and power lines are down. so it's a bit tricky for them. >> we definitely have noticed

the wind picking up today. you probably saw in leslie's shot. especially in the north bay. >> for a look at how this is affecting the fires, we want to touch base with sandhya patel. sandhya? >> and those winds will make it challenging for the fire crews. right now let's take a look at the marin county fire first. 63 degrees. relative humidity 59% because the winds are coming onshore from the west-northwest, gusting to about 224 miles per hour. now the fire conditions near suisun city. it is 81 degrees. relative humidity 25%. but once again, the challenge here for the crews will be those gusty winds. they will remain gusty this evening. right now out of the west at 22 miles an hour. kristen? >> thank you. interstate 5 is open now, but you can expect delays heading through shasta and trinity counties because of the delta fire. flames have burned more than 53,000 acres since the fire broke out last wednesday. it's 5% contained, and more than 2400 firefighters are still on

the front lines. evacuation orders remain in effect for several communities. in the east bay, oakland police investigating a fire at a homeless encampment on east 12 street this morning. found a man's body. police say the body was found near part of the encampment that was not affected be the fire. there were no signs of trauma, and it's being investigated as an unexplained death at this point. the fire started at 2:45 in the morning. residents were evacuated. no one was hurt. the south bay, a homeless village has popped up unlike any you have ever seen before. it's located in a state-owned unused parking lot next to san jose man mineta international airport. the advocates for the homeless decided to buck the system and create a tent city without permission just to prove a point. abc 7 news reporter david louie is live in san jose where the residents now could be facing eviction date. >> dan, this tenth village has been kept under the wraps for the past eight months while

they've been planning it and fundraising it. now that it's operation, they decided to go public. they assembled some supporters here this evening. they are hoping that this concept will be adopted and used in other parking lots around the city. just a week ago, volunteers started creating what they call hope village. three community groups working on homeless issues raised $10,000 to buy the tents and other equipment, to transform this unused state parking lot. >> we kind of got tired of waiting for the government to act. we came up with the idea of a tent village as being economical, something you can put together fast, and it's clearly way better conditions. >> there is room for ten residents. seven have moved in. all selected because they're not drug users and are known to volunteers from previous outreach. charles nelson used to be warehouseman but ended up living at a homeless encampment when he couldn't afford the pay rent. here he feels secure. >> a safer environment. i can go to school. i don't have to worry about my stuff being stolen.

we have a common area where we can cook, a home-cooked meal, you know. >> other residents include a former firefighter, postal worker and public school teacher. technically they're squatting on state property. the sponsors have been warned they might be evicted, but they're taking that risk in other words to convince city, county and state officials that this is a good concept to meet immediate needs, rather than waiting years for homeless housing projects to be built. a state consultant who came by to check out hope village agrees. >> it's easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission. and that's okay. that's not a bad thing. and i think that, you know, this particular site is a real good example of a good way of usi usi th that. >> unlike homeless encampment, hope village does have rest rooms. it has a shower facility that will come on-site several times a week. and there is a security fence all around the perimeter. now the highway patrol has two officers here on-site. they're here to listen to the organizers, but at this point we

don't think an eviction is eminent. live in san jose, david louie, abc 7 news. >> thank you. the bay area housing market continues to struggle to keep up with demand and the job market. new data shows the bay area added fewer than 15,000 new units in 2017. that's far fewer than the 52,000 jobs added in the bay area. the imbalance highlights our housing crunch. the data comes from the metropolitan transportation commission and the association of bay area governments. a nunn any driver is still in critical condition with life threatening injuries after his bus went out of control in san francisco. another driver's dash cam actually recorded the bus veering across lombard street early yesterday morning. the bus hit a parked van, toppled a tree and damaged a wiz. one injured passenger left the hospital today. two others were already recovering at home. investigators believe cameras on board may help them discover what went wrong. new details now into what

happened as wildfires forced the evacuation of two assisted living facilities in santa rosa last october during that terrible firestorm. last week, the department of social services released a legal notice to revoke the licenses of marina and villa capri. both are owned by oakmont senior living. now family members of loved ones who were in those facilities say dss sent them a complaint investigation report. abc 7 news obtained a copy of that report. now it says staff at villa capri did not sweep the building the night of the fire to locate anyone not accounted for during a head count. a staff member who was not there that night also says the facility never conducted a disaster drill where residents and staff evacuated the building in the two years that staffers -- that staffer worked at the facility. oakmont senior living has 15 days to appeal and request a hearing before an administrative law judge. happening tonight, former

drain holes inside of your washer drum or even clog your president trumps. and that can put a lot of stress on your plumbing. >> so deal with pet hair before you put your laundry in the washer. the first step, brush your pet every day. a lint roll kerr be another quick fix. or even some masking tape which picks up hair in a snap. in spots where pet hair becomes embedded in fabric, a damp rubber glove allows you to sweep hair together so it lifts off easily. >> toss items in a dryer along with a dryer sheet. and if you leave it on a no heat setting for about ten minutes, the dryer sheet will work to loosen hair off the clothes and the hair already get caught in the dryer's lint trap. >> all helpful suggestions to keep pet owners and their washing machines happy. it's also a good idea to run an empty wash cycle once in a while and wipe down any hair left on the inside of the drum, or let the machine dry and vacuum in there with a soft attachment.

boy, what a hassle. >> that is a hassle. >> thanks, michael. now your accuweather forecast with sandhya patel. >> yeah, dan and kristen, hurricane florence is a dangerous category 4 storm still. take a look at the eye on the storm. it's still well defined, and it is heading toward the midatlantic and carolina coastline, packing winds of 140 miles per hour, moving to the west-northwest at 17 miles an hour. on this track, it will close in somewhere around the carolina coastline thursday afternoon as a category 4 storm weakening as we head into the weekend. but it is going to slow down as it approaches. and that means rainfall is going to go on for days while inland, which is going to be one of the biggest threats along with dangerous storm surge. through sunday, could see over 3 feet of rain across some parts of the state here, and that of course along with river flooding, storm surge flooding will mean dangerous conditions
