florence. >> but tonight as the highways fill up, the governors of north and south carolina worried some people won't listen. >> even if you've ridden out storms before, this one is different. don't bet your life on riding out a monster. >> reporter: as crews from south carolina to virginia and maryland prepare. >> this is extremely serious, and national guard troops get in place, president trump appearing confident with the government response. >> we are totally prepared. we're ready, as ready as anybody's ever been. >> reporter: millions of people racing against the clock to protect homes and businesses from category 4 florence predicted to strengthen overnight. >> we're going to secure all of the major entrances to the house. >> reporter: all that heavy rain could flood toxic waste sites like colash dumps and pigs of hag manure craeating a mix that

could contaminate drinking water. >> and take a look at tonight's sunset over florence captured by the satellite. for the latest on the storm's projected path, let's ghetto sandhya patel. >> this storm is a dangerous storm and could prove catastrophic. let me show you florence. look at the eye, it is a monster storm. as we look, it's packing winds of 140 miles an hour moving to the west-northwest at 17. psomewhere along the carolina l coast between thursday night and friday morning. a category 4 weakening to a 2. but the rainfall will continue right on through the weekend and possibly longer. look at the projection through sunday. isolated areas could see up to 35 inches of rain. watches and warnings are up along the entire coastline and florence could bring flash flooding life-threatening storm

i'm kate larson, abc7 news. a grass fire in solano county triggered an air quality alert today. the fire burned 630 acres before contained. it started on grizzly island. no one was hurt. some roads were shut down. no word yet on what caused that fire. people in the south bay are on alert after someone shot a family pet with a pellet gun. an emergency trip to the vet uncovered there was not the first time the cat had been targeted. news reporter amanda is live with the story tonight. >> reporter: 6-year-old putter the cat is recovering after being shot over the weekend. hissers on tell me it was an x-ray revealed a second month old pellet still lodged inside the cat's body. neighbors say the violent behavior needs to stop. those living in the pet friendly park view neighborhood say someone is targeting their pets.

lorraine was gardening sunday when she heard a cat's meow. it was patter. he hadn't been there before. he was obviously moving. >> reporter: she rushed the injured cat next door. patter's owners shared the x-rays showing pellet fragments lodged inside the family's body. a scab was another entry wound. >> come to find out it was an actual other pellet. so there's definitely somebody local shooting animals. >> reporter: the most recent shot missed the head by two inches and landed near his spine. >> his front leg is not operable. it's not move. we don't know yet. time will tell if he'll be able to use it again. >> reporter: steve buyers says his daughter posted these neighborhood alerts people have shared stories of their pets being targeted. some owners are limiting their cat's outdoor time. it will isn't easing concern someone in the neighborhood is shooting cats. >> we very two cats.

when i first came to ocean bay, what i saw was despair. i knew something had to be done. hurricane sandy really woke people up, to showing that we need to invest in this community. i knew having the right partner we could turn this place around. it was only one bank that could finance a project this difficult and this large, and that was citi. preserving affordable housing preserves communities. so we are doing their kitchens and their flooring and their lobbies and the grounds. and the beautification of their homes, giving them pride in where they live, will make this a thriving community once again. ♪

lion. if that's true, it would be the first ever fatal cougar attack in the wild in oregon. officials have identified the victim as diana bober of gresham. she disappeared while hiking. evidence is being sent to a fish and wildlife lab to see if they can find evidence of a cougar. the last fatal attack in california happened in orange county 14 years ago. while there are all sorts of rumors what apple will unveil tomorrow morning, there is one thing for certain. the company is going to stream it for the first time on twitter. it's expected we'll see new smart devices as well as software updates and perhaps a surprise or two. david louie will be at the event. look for his live tweets as apple announce announces new products. if you've ever dreamed of owning a victorian home, there's a free one available in oakland. as abc7 news reporter indicate can i outtis explains, there is a catch. >> i love old houses.

down in history books. right now, i want to show you our weather. tracking some changes. a little bit of fog around half moon bay where visibility is lowered to six miles. here is the biggest change. cooling started today and will continue tomorrow as this area of low pressure developed bringing some showers to the pacific northwest. that trough continues to dig southward and that's going to drop our temperatures even more tomorrow. it is still breezy around parts of the bay area. san francisco san carlos, fairfield all right now winds over 20 miles an hour. look at the wind forecast. it is going to remain on the gusty side as we head into tomorrow and the winds will be coming off the cool ocean water. it may feel cooler to you as we head into tomorrow. it is going to be noticeably cooler inland. temperatures in the 50s to the 60s. brentwood is the only exception where it is 72 degrees. i want to turn your attention to

tropical storm olivia packing winds of 50 miles an hour. landfall expected over maui tomorrow morning at 5:00 a.m. this storm has the potential to bring up to 15 inches of rain. it is going to slowly move out over the open waters and eventually move away. damaging surf is expected with the storm. live doppler 7 right now tracking a few showers over the hawaiian islands as we look with the actual tropical storm, you can see the circulation. showers are in advance of the system. it's the outer bands beginning to approach hawaii. if you have family there they will be seeing some heavy rainfall which could lead to flooding. hereot going to see it from our emeryville breezy to guster and cooler tomorrow. minor warming is expected early next week. first thing in the morning, low clouds and fog right here the coast in patches. high level clouds elsewhere.

woman south carolina be found inside a san francisco restaurant. rachel got to meet her culinary inspiration aisha curry thanks to the make-a-wish foundation. they flew her in from arkansas so she coffee cook. the two enjoyed a picnic at golden gate park. >> what a great photo that is. >> pretty good picnic too. >> on to sports. >> aisha does that and hosts up to 15 kids from make a wish every christmas.
