storm of a lifetime. that's how hurricane florence is being described as it barrels towards the east coast. look how massive it is. forcing millions of people out of their homes. let's give you a live look at the east coast. north myrtle beach, south carolina, there are blue skies and calm winds right now, but that is going to change drastically over the course of the next couple of days. thanks for joining us. i'm kristein sze. let's check in with our meteorologist who is tracking the storm's potential impact. >> catastrophic is a good word to use for this particular storm

and something we haven't possibly seen since hugo since '89 when it destroyed charleston and moved into charlotte and destroyed parts of charlotte which is three and a half hours away. you can see not much changed with florence. she is slowing down a little pitt now. 15 miles per hour, was 17, and her winds are from 140 last night. here's the official track. still barreling towards wilmington. friday morning with 120-mile-per-hour winds. that's a category 3. that's a devastating storm that's going to take a what, left turn and hug the coast for another 24 hours heading down to myrtle beach and then moving inland. something unprecedented and never seen before. the rainfall totals, you can see they will be very much confined to the coast. we're expecting a lot of flooding whether it's the sounds in north carolina, the rivers as the surge moves up it or freshwater flooding from the potentially three and a half feet of rain that's going to

fall inland. so a very scary situation. officials say the storm surge alone up to 13 feet from hurricane florence poses a serious threat to life on the barrier islands and even 100 miles inland. natalie burnell is in wrightsville, north carolina with more on the looming danger and evacuations. >> reporter: bracing for impact. homes boarded up, store shelves cleared, gas in short supply. >> as soon as i pulled in the parking lot, somebody told me there was no gas so you might as we will not come here. >> reporter: as the monstrous category 4 florence takes aim at the carolina coast, major highways morphed into one-way escape routes. >> we're currently on what is usually the right side of the road. you can see the traffic coming up the other side, too. >> reporter: for some itea leaving behind >> i got the e-mail that said there was a mandatory evacuation, it just -- it hit latest forecast shifting slightly south and now delaying the storm's landfall until early

saturday morning, but florence still expected to pack a catastrophic punch in storm surge and up to 40 inches of rain. some calling it the storm of a lifetime. >> my message is clear. disaster is at the doorstep, and it's coming in. >> reporter: a european astronaut tweeting chilling photos of the storm from space saying, quote, get prepared on the east coast. that is no kidding nightmare coming for you. fema sounding this alarm. >> today is your last day to get out of the areas that have been placed under evacuation orders. >> reporter: the race against time to leave stressful but necessary. >> the important thing is your life. >> right. >> and you can't get that back. the house can be rebuilt. >> reporter: tropical storm conditions are expected to start tomorrow, and when hurricane florence does make landful, the area where i'm standing is expecting up to a 13-foot storm surge. natalie burnell, wrightsville beach, north carolina.

>> happening now, a huge isco. 4,500 delegates including political heavyweights and celebrities will tackle critical climate issues affecting the world. abc 7 news was at the palace hotel last night where governor brown talked about california's efforts to fight pollution. he told the audience that preventing climate change will be difficult but must be done. >> you have to be warriors and innovators and missionaries to keep at it, to keep it done. >> all you need to do is do is do it. >> reporter: representatives from 39 countries are here for the global action climate summit. the event is drawing big names like al gore, john kerry, alec baldwin and musician dave matthews. the conference is having a big traffic impact in san francisco. howard street is now closed between third and fourth streets near the mosconi center until the end of the month, first because of a climate summit and then because of the upcoming

sales force dream force conference. right now apple is taking the wraps off its newest products. while gadget lovers are eagerly awaiting news on the next generation iphone, ceo tim cook has already unveiled the next apple watch with improvements for monitoring the wearer's health and safety. abc 7 news reporter matt keller is live in cupertino with details. matt? >> reporter: hi, kristen, yeah. hard-core apple fans are always excited about events like today as the employees of apple are now introducing all the latest and greatest products from the company. new health features. it the can detect if you have a low heart rate and can even perform an electrocardiogram and they can see if someone has fouled. >> after detecting a fall series 4 delivers an alert and from that alert you can initiate an emergency call. however, if the watch senses you are mobile for one minute, it will start the call automatically, and it -- it also sends a message with your locations to your emergency contacts. >> reporter: of course, everybody here was waiting for the latest on the iphone. first they introduced the iphone 10 and it features edge-to-edge screen with a bigger and faster display with new features featuring an upgrades. my colleague is there will more later on the upgrades.

reporting live, matt kearl, abc 7 news. >> seeing great tweets from david and you as well, matt. thank you. new developments in the irving fire burning in marin county. we've learned a downed pg&e power line started it. the fire broke out in the san geronimo valley monday night. officials lifted evacuation orders yesterday, but many homes are still without power. the fires burned 152 acres. that's a quarter of a square mile, relatively small still at 65% contained. today the san francisco police commission is expected to discuss the case of a headless body found in a soma neighborhood home last month. the homeowner brian egg was reported missing early this summer. last month a body was found in a fish tank in his home and many presume it's that of egg's. last night friends gathered outside the home and his family flew in from florida to be at the vigil. >> this, of course, has been an extremely difficult, confusing and sad time for our family.

we have endured a range of fears and emotion over the last couple of months, and we want to thank all the people who haveen support. >> reporter: friends are upset with the police department because officers went to his home twice over the summer. both times they left without entering the home. during today's meeting city hall and the police commissioner are expected idea that happened. police detained two persons of interest. one of them lance silva who appeared in court this morning for a parole violation. developing news on the peninsula. the san mateo county office is looking for more sexual abuse victims following the arrest of this man. he was convicted of molesting his 7-year-old niece in millbrae back in 2006. she came forward after learning he victimized at least two of her aunts in the 1980s. the man, now 62, was arrested two years ago in utah. happening today in the east bay, a ground breaking ceremony

on a massive housing project in oakland. the oak knoll housing development sits above 580. the project called for the construction of 918 town homes and houses. it also includes 80,000 square feet of retail property and 84 acres of public parks and open space. oakland mayor libby schaaf will help break ground on the project this morning at 11:30. stormy daniels claimed she slept with donald trump and now she's laying it out in a new tell ash dahl book. coming up, what the adult film star plans on disclosing in the upcoming page-turner. and the

official events are under way as a prelude to a sold out show of a korean boy band. the k-pop band bts is performing one night only in oakland. yeah, we're pulling out as you see the big line there. the craze surrounding them is just hitting a high note. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live outside of oracle arena. aim? >> hi, kristen. i was amazed when i saw the line other at 6:00 in the morning and it kept growing. they are starting to let them into the parking lot now so they are now behind me. look at the mess though. all the creature comforts that they left behind here on the line and they needed all this stuff because they have been

here for so long, and a lot of trash here now. aside from this unsightly mess, other than that the crowd has just been delightful and full of love for this band. they are enthusiastic, adoring and willing to wait in line for days, even though many of them already have tickets to get in. >> i got here on monday, and i started camping out around like 11:00 that night. ♪ ♪ >> reporter: they are in line to see this group, bts, a boy band from south korea. bts will perform wednesday night in oakland, but the lines started forming on monday. general admission ticket holders say they are here for a good spot on the floor as close to the stage as possible. >> it's crazy, but i feel like it's definitely worth it because they are amazing, and i can't wait to like see them in person because i have been waiting so long for this and they have finally come to the bay area so

welcome back. let's start by taking a look at comerful sunrise. this is from our south beach camera. look at that as the sun was illuminating the clouds from underneath. several shades of pink rolling through, and we did have an accident at one point in time on the bay bridge so maybe you were in there and you got to look up for a second andoy that. there you go. let's take a look from the east bay hills camera. there's a lack of clouds out towards the coast. that's a dry cold front coming through. that's going to make it kind of breeze and we'll keep having high clouds throughout the afternoon and into the overnight. it's going to be cool again tomorrow morning. 40s and 50s. we'll finally start to warm back to average. these temperatures are anywhere from 3 to 9 degrees cooler than they were this time. barely 60 in san francisco. mid to upper 60s into the bay and south bay and up into the north bay and a few 70s showing up already in the east bay. here's a look at the cool air. we've been tracking this all week coming down from alaska and you can see the high clouds out

ahead of t.unfortunately the green that you saw is rain that's falling in oregon and washington. that's not going to make it here. the winds are starting to pick up a little bit as the cold front is starting to move into the north bay so expect those winds to really ramp up around 1:00 this afternoon. especially into areas you see in yellow which is around the bay and out towards the coast. they will be coming in from the west at 30 miles per hour. keeping us well below average. that 82 in gilroy. that's as warm as any neighborhood. low to mid-70s during the afternoon hours. 67 to 72. very narrow spread on the peninsula. even naoer out along the coast. 59 to 62 degrees. mid-60s in downtown and south san francisco. average high this time of the year is 70. as far as the north bay low to mid-70s in most neighborhood. upper 70s around cloverdale and east bay shore, 68 to 70 degrees and moving into the east bay valley where it could be 100
