any major issues. live at the south beach camera. our bay bridge commute. traffic coming into. city. no issues there. someone changing their tire on the lower deck near treasure island. chp came through and assisted the driver. they are on their way. no roads blocked. no residual delays. if you are coming from highway 4 and san pablo, several lanes closed before 5:00. they could be wrapping up ahead of schedule. hurricane florence batters the coast. >> derrick is in jacksonville. what does it look like there? >> reporter: good morning. i can tell you we still have heavy wind and rain here in jacksonville. we are braced by our hotel here. we have a little cover from the wind. as the other river down i

believe she was in wilmington, she was doing the same thing. that's because the wind is very intense. we can show you video from overnight. sustained winds of 60 miles per hour according to the national weather service. and wind gusts 70 to 90 miles per hour. certainly nothing you want to get caught in. the real story is the water. we have video showing flooding in new bern. that is a city an hour inland. so this morning there are reports of water rescues. about 150 people have been requesting rescue. for whatever reason, they did not oevacuate or could not evacuate. now they are in need of rescue. people stuck on roofs as well. thankfully, no report of any deaths or injuries in that. that is a dire situation that is

happening inland in north carolina. again, an hour away from the coast. that storm is only just making landfall. this is a slow-moving storm. it will stay parked over us for some time. that is the concern going forward the next couple of days. that we will have significant flooding in this area. so that is the latest here. we'll send it back to you guys in san francisco. >> derrick, i'm wondering how many people where you are and heeded the warning and took off before the storm. are there certainly left? >> reporter: there are certainly people in our hotel, i can tell you that. we got here tuesday. there was a lot of people around on tuesday. on wednesday, we were driving around to some of the beaches. really, those were complete ghost were toups. certainly a few people that we saw that, you know what, said we're going to stick around because it's downgraded first to category 2. overnight it was downgraded to category 1.

live in san jose, matt keller, abc 7 news. matt, thank you. the man accused of killing nia wilson is due in court. wilson dialed, while her sister survived. a highly radioactive object has been found at the naval ship yard. it was found next to a housing area that has been declared safe and free of radioactive contamination for more than a decade. it was mentioned in a progress later from the state health department to the ship yard homeowner's association yesterday. health officials have not commented on that discovery >> happening today, the managers of san francisco's troubled millennium tower will find out if they have done enough to avoid being yellow tagged. the city gave them until yesterday related to a cracked window on the 36th floor.

right now. then it turns into a flooding storm the next couple of days. 68 if you're heading up to tahoe. >> conditions continuing to deteriorate along the carolina coast. >> victor shows us what he is seeing in jacksonville, north carolina. >> reporter: the winds here are only getting stronger, and the rain has just been relentless. the last reported wind gust in jacksonville, north carolina, 76 miles per hour. this rain, you can see it. we're feeling it for sure. it is just whipping, pelting us. as we step out here, we're about 20 miles inland from the coast. you can imagine what they are dealing with right now as the eyewall is very close to them. the concern here in jacksonville, north carolina is the storm surge. possibly around 11 feet. a lot of seawater will get pushed inland.

it will lead to flooding. emergency officials tell me they are expecting an unprecedented amount of rain. we could be looking at possibly three feet of rain falling in this area. state emergency officials we have spoken with say there is major structural damage to businesses and homes in the area. in a quick drive around town, we saw transformers blowing. we saw the canopies of gas stations ripped right off. reports of a local high school dealing with major flood damage as well. right now the story here in jacksonville continues to be the threatening winds and the rain. only picking up here. victor okendo, nbc news, jacksonville, north carolina. >> anheuser-busch is shipping more than 300,000 were cans of drinking water to north carolina and south carolina and virginia.

coast as we head throughout the next 48 hours. back here at home, here's some of the fog alexis and i have been talking about. visibility at napa airport, 1. # quarter mile in novato. that will be most of the morning. temperatures low to upper 70s in the bay. 67 to 73 on the peninsula this afternoon. 62 to 64 along the coast with not as much sunshine. mid-60s for downtown and south san francisco. calistoga, 80. east bay shore, 9 richmond and berkeley. 73 towards san leandro. temperatures tomorrow morning when you wake up, mid-40s to mid-50s once again. a little bit cooler tomorrow. back in the 60s and 70s. we'll try to make a run at 80 inland. we will stay in the 70s at the coast. 60s at the coast and 70s around the bay.
