>> a day after landfall florence continues to batter the carolinas this morning. the storm turning deadly yesterday claiming the lives of seven people. right now hundreds of thousand of people remain power. here is abc news reporter natalie brunnle. >> winds and rain subsided but in other parts of the carolinas torrential downpours happening right now and the big concern is catastrophic flooding. we're seeing dramatic video coming from the overnight hours of rescues happening, more people needing to be rescued, hundreds already plucked from their homes and hundreds more waiting for help to come. but in some cases first responders can't even get to some communities because the water has been rising. we can also confirm at least 7 deaths cause the by hurricane florence. in one case a woman and her 8-month-old baby killed when a tree fell on their home in wilmington. and in communities all over rg north and south carolina we see disaster zones, uprooted trees, collapsed rooms and homes

inundated with water and downed power lines making it difficult to drive here. almost a million people out the of power including us. and this storm is far from over. every inch of rain is going to continue to allow the rivers to rise. and this storm is going to continue to bring disastrous flooding according to officials. live in wilmington, north carolina. natalie brunnle, abc back to you. you're looking at bay area firefighters helping flooded communities in north carolina. the team left oakland on monday night, including members from the east bay and santa rosa. members of the 129th rescue wing unit of the national guard took off from their base if mountain view to help with the emergency relief efforts after the tropical storm florence. the men's helicopter and men are in doefr air force base in delaware ready to deploy at any moment. florence is still a monster

home. this is a satellite loom from last night. let's get over to france he is for more on what residents can expect this weekend. >> it's not over yet. in fact i want to show you the radar image for that area. due to tropical storm florence right now. you can see the past six hours it has barely moved, still centered near georgetown. newport has gotten two feet of rain with this storm. that's close to sfrisk's annual average rainfall. there is a tornado watch in effect through today until 5:00 tonight. and that can be a very dangerous as well. right now winds moving at 15-mile-per-hour. and again moving so slowly at about 2-mile-per-hour, and it's going to stay there the next day or so, slowly moving north as it heads through monday and into the weekend. but, again, very problematic, flash flood warnings a and lots of rain and of course heavy winds as well, chris.

happening today in the east bay animal left homeless after fires in lake county will be up for adoption. 2,000 pets will be up for adoption at the 8th annual bay area pet fair. the lake county shelter is brings all their pets. they have been inundated with homeless pets after all the fires. the event runs from 10 to 5 today and tomorrow aalameda county fair grounds. a young female bear burned during the car carr fire in shafta county is back in the wild this morning. the state department of fish and wildlife released the bear. they provided these photos. a crew working to fix the utility poles spotted bear where she was taken to uc davis where the they used biologic bandages. in the south bay san jose water company customers may get some answers about whether they've been overbilled for years. a state agency just launched an investigation after a staff report about billing practices. our media partner, the mercury

expect. here a life shot. we see low clouds moving in over san francisco. oakland 57. mountain view at 56. morgan hill, cool at 49 appear hf half moon bay 57. this time as we look from emeryville across we see low clouds near the coast. santa rosa. 53. novato cool at 52. and some mid-to upper 50s in fairfield, concord and livermore. as we show you a pretty shot from the exploratorium, looking at quickly moving clouds over san francisco here is what you can expect. scattered clouds this morning. a lot of sunshine this afternoon. but it will be breezy with winds up to 20-mile-per-hour and that's going to allow temperatures to be a little bit cooler today, especially inland you'll notice the difference. temperatures will remain below average into next week. so highs today range from 60s at the coast to mid-and upper 70s inland. coming down from the low 80s we saw yesterday. san francisco is 64. oakland 68.

sunny, 73. it's comfortable. but again the breeze picks up this afternoon especially through parts of the north bay valleys where gusts are up to possibly 30-mile-per-hour. if you are headed to the cal game today it's sunny but breezy grab a light layer. temperatures start off in the upper 60s dropping to the low 60s by the time the game ends. and folks headed to the indy car grand prix of sonoma, lots of sunshine today. today in the low 70s, 73. tomorrow, a little bit warmer at 75 degrees. and i want to show you what you can expect for the week ahead. we are well below average for example in livermore. average highs 85. today we are going to be about 10 degrees below average. we'll bump up a little bit tomorrow. but stay below average in through tuesday and then we are specking high pressure to build. close to average by the end of next work week. so that's something to look forward to, especially for areas around the bay where it will be more comfortable.

but cool and breeze thissy this afternoon. inland in the upper 70s. around the bay near 70 and at the coast still in the low 60s throughout the day. plenty of sunshine, sun sets at 7:17. and we will be below normal the next few days into next we can. i'll let you know when we can expect a warmup coming up in the accuweather seven-day forecast. >> thanks. developing news flood something the biggest concern this weekend as florence continues to pummel the carolina coast with strong winds and heavy rain. nearly 1 million people were without power this morning. the storm turned deadly yesterday, claiming the lives of at least 7 people, including a mother and her 8-month-old baby. a massive tree fell on their home in wilmington, north carolina. >> the firefighters were out here in the height of this storm working this rescue basically. and a very, very difficult -- >> if this thing sets on top of us it will be a few days before the storm is over but recovery is weeks and months.

>> hundreds of people needed to be rescued. florence is expected to be downgraded to a tropical depression by tonight but the torrential rain shows no signs of letting up any time soon. one bay area non-profit is rallying together medical and hygiene splice to help those displaced in north and south carolina. leslie brinkley has the story. >> this is ready to ship. >> reporter: this regional director walked through the vast warehouse filled with dmeld supplies. >> we have gunnary, tables. >> reporter: along with the personal products that make their way here from the public. >> right now our partners -- we have about 34 partners on the ground in the carolinas monitoring the situation as well as national partners. they are putting together the needs list. >> reporter: volunteers from chevron boxed up masks and gloves that are likely to top the list of needs. along with things like diapers,

shampoo and tooth brushes. >> my mom lives in north carolina is there with a lot of flooding. it's home for me. but, yeah, definitely more people are calling in to want to help us out. >> reporter: with florence expected to linger and trigger flooding for days to come, med share is on stand by as to how they'll get the supplies into the hurricane zone. >> it's a matter of trying to fly it, truck it. >> any means that we can. . and sometimes, yeah, folks have been able to put things on air cargos, folks donated private jets, corporate jets in the past. here in san francisco someone donated a yut and put supplies on that. >> local medical teams are mobilizing and will carry this as luggage. leslie brinkley abc 7 news. if you want to help med share says to gather splice and supplies this week and bring it to med share starting monday morning at '088:30. apple is lending a hand.

ceo tim cook tweeted the company is donating $1 million to the red cross to help those impacted by florence. the american red cross is organizing relief for those impacted by tropical storm florence. you can make a $10 donation by texting the word florence to 90999. the bay area's latest state of the art medical facility is a step closer to opening. a ribbon cutting ceremony took place thursday evening more the morris highman critical care pavilion out of washington hospital in fremont. the new intent intents have have 48 beds. the er is 224,000 square feet. four times the size of the current facility. even the way it was constructed is state of the art. >> it moves from side to side three feet in every direction and can move up and down. which is kind of hard to imagine. but that's what it is billed as doing.

it's the same seismic system as the apple campus. >> the project came in on time and on budget. there is no set opening date yet. but officials hope to move patients in by the middle of next month. a well-known surfer severely injured in santa cruz is making remarkable progress. brian hart was paralyzed two months ago. david louie has the uplifting update, a story only on abc 7 news. >> reporter: it's nothing short of miraculous, the 53-year-old brian hart is out of bed, off as respirator and able to use his chin to control a chair. nine weeks ago he was paralyzed below the neck after he crashed into rocks at steamer lane in santa cruz suffering. it was his 15-year-old son who administered cpr and revived him. >> i came back. i was given a choice. and i came back because i heard my son calling me. and i just couldn't leave my son and wife.

i'm meteorologist france he is dilasan.e dopp yoee it barely moving over the last six hours. because it's fairly stationary it's pulling the warm water into north carolina where newport has already gotten almost two feet of rain. and that's close to san francisco's annual average rainfall. so right now winds are at 15-mile-per-hour. it's tracking very slowly west at 2-mile-per-hour. and it's going to be very slow over the next couple of days, even tomorrow it will still be centered over south carolina. bringing tons of rain through the area. so we are expecting this weekend an additional 5 to 15 inches of rain. storm totals up to 40 inches in isolated spots. bringing life threatening storm surge as well. still up to 5 feet expected. catastrophic flash flooding and possible tornadoes and landslide in higher elevations through the weekend. we'll be keeping an eye on that for you. for us, live doppler 7 showing
