america this morning. >> she made the decision not to go public. and those who were not satisfied with that decision essentially created pressure for her to come forward by alerting members of the media and others who essentially started going to her classes, going to her home, invading her privacy. and the very ills that she sought to prevent by choosing to remain confidential were already happening to her. and she knew it was inevitable. so that's why she came forward. she said i thought he might inadvertently kill me. he was trying to attack me and remove my clothing. brett kavanaugh says i categorically deny this allegation. i did not do this back in high school or at any time. the senate will try to hear from kavanaugh and his accuser.

and her attorney said this morning on cnn she would be willing to testify before legislators on capitol hill. reporting live in palo alto, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. hospital officials will discontinue life support for a 6-month-old who suffered a brain injury. he has been on a breathing machine. he went into cardiac arrest more than a month ago. his parents tell them doctors gave them a letter friday saying breathing machines will be turned off today due to the irreversible brain injury. >> they just dropped this bomb on us. we have to move forward. >> i think my son deserves a fighting chance because he is in fact, improving. >> his parents are looking into options they have, whether it's legal help or moving kingston to another facility. hospital officials can't comment because of privacy laws but they feel for what the family is

going through. new developments at hunters point ship yard. new concerns about the plan to retest the soil for radio teufplt. the navy's proposed fix draws from an old plan in 2012 which aims to cut costs. it declared more soil safe for development. that way the navy didn't have to pay as much to haul soil away. investigators later discovered data was falsified. they have criticized the navy's plan to re-test the abc 7 news viewer in the east bay sent us this video of what sounds like a small explosion in bay point. it broke up on water street just west of pittsburgh. a barbecue then spread to a house. the explosion may have been from the barbecue's propane tank.

fortunately, nobody got hurt. if you had an angry uber driver over the weekend, maybe it's because they weren't getting paid. a glitch presrefptvented them f getting paid. the company was working on a fix over the weekend and did not know how many drivers were being affected. happening today in the east bay, you can help a nonprofit that is gathering donations for people impacted by hurricane florence. >> med share is looking to get wipes, diapers and formula. shampoo and dental supplies are also needed. the address is 2937 alvarado street. more details at abc7news.com >> florence may have been downgraded to a tropical depression, but the threat it poses is far from over. happening now, record flooding in the carolinas. and more rain istetoday. at least 17 people have died so far because of this storm.

rescue crews are out in full forcehomes. ana rivera from wtvd is live in wilmington, north carolina with a look at the conditions. good morning, ana >> reporter: good morning, reggie and jessica. at least the rain and the wind have finally moved out. we finally got a beautiful sunrise here in wilmington, north carolina. but the effects of hurricane florence are still here. you can see all of this roadway was covered in water. left over debris and leftover water from when it pushed up onto the dock. you can see the branches left behind. take a look at this. this massive power line. but we want to show you some of the flooding. we have aerial footage of flooded roadways in this area. almost impassable as people try to get through wilmington. you can't get in or out at this point. this is definitely still a dire situation here in wilmington

even though this storm has made its way through. very close is wrightsville beach, a popular tourist destination. residents are not allowed back in their homes yet. they are hoping to get back by tomorrow morning. they are completely without power on that island. they say until they have power, they can't get back. they don't know when they will be be back in their homes. they are waiting to get back and see what damage was left behind. >> tens of thousands of people don't have power. do we have any idea when that could be turned back on? >> reporter: no idea when they will have all the powerback on. the good news is throughout wilmington, there are spotty areas getting powerback on. that's why you are seeing long lines, massive lines for gas and grocery stores, as people try to get back into the few areas that still have power. well, it's of the country. hopefully they will be able to get things back to normal sooner rather than later.

thank you so much. over to meteorologist mike nicco. he has a closer look at florence and everything the east coast is still dealing with, mike. >> the problem with flooding is it takes hours, sometimes days, for it to finally go away as all the water makes its way from the small streams to the bigger streams, to the rivers, to the lakes, and then the lakes overflow which we have already seen. i want to show you the gray. this is radar estimate of how much rain has fallen. it went so far up the scale i had to put it on for you. all of this gray in the southeast corner of north carolina. and here's the south carolina border heading down to myrtle beach. that's 15 to 25 inches of rain so far. thankfully it is pulling to the north. now the areas you see in green, which still starts in south carolina and goes all the way up to boston, more than 10 million people under that flash flood watch through at least wednesday. here's a look at the future radar. and you can see as we head up towards tomorrow, that's really when new york and boston will

engage in non-violent civil disobedience. in the east bay, some are calling on governor brown to veto a bill to build more bart stations. opponents of the bill say bart needs to focus on providing safe and reliable service instead of housing. they plan to hold a news conference later this morning at the dublin pleasanton station. bart is moving forward with a plan to transform 177 parking space into a housing and retail development. according to the chronicle, bart's board approved an exclusive negotiating agreement with an east bay developer. in all, it call for 519 units of housing. 44% will be rented at below market rate. and no replacement parking is

here's a look at the air quality the next couple of days. it will be cooler than average. breathe easy. everybody is green, which is good. jessica, reggie >> santa barbara teen did the right thing when he stumbled across a black purse containing 10,000 bucks in cash. >> 16-year-old rami zaney found the purse in the middle of an intersection walking home from school. there was no i.d., no one around looking for the misplaced purse. he did the right thing by turning it into the local sheriff's office. >> to me i figured this is the right thing to do if i take it and find who's ever's purse it was. if the roles were reversed and i lost something with a significant amount of money inside i know i would want it back for sure.
