>> he's one of the great intellects and one of the finest people that anyone has known. >> reporter: president trump is saying the confirmation process should play out. >> i would like to see a complete process. i would like everybody to be very happy. most importantly i want the american people to be happy. >> reporter: christine blasey ford, a psychology professor in california. this is her high school yearbook photo in the early '80s. around the time she said she was assaulted. telling dianne feinstein kavanaugh was drunk at a party when he groped her. kavanaugh called the allegation false. i've never done anything what the accuser described to her or anyone. an attorney for blasey ford says her client is ready to testify. >> she's willing to cooperate. he's not willing to be part of this blood letting that happens in washington. >> reporter: the top senate republican is blaming democrats for what he calls the 11th hour accusation. but democrats are demanding

confirmation votes be put on hold. >> it is an insult, insult to the women of america, to rush this through, after these serious allegations have been made. >> reporter: monday's hearing will delay a vote on the nomination. that was planned for later this week. president trump says he's okay with a little delay in this confirmation process. many people in the bay area and beyond are vocalizing their support for blasey ford who lives and works in palo alto. our reporter is in the newsroom with more on that part of the story. >> reporter: blasey ford is a mother of two, a surfer, and highly regarded professor who has been thrust into a position she says she was trying so hard to avoid, but many are applauding her decision to go public. >> we believe her. >> reporter: at uc berkeley, student activists came together to let everyone know they're ready to protest. >> to make sure the rights of

women and christine blasey ford are defended in this country. >> reporter: it was a different scene at palo alto university where blasey ford teaches ph.d. students in psychology. students and staff had no comment and the professor's social media pages have been taken down. but an archived linked in page says she received her ph.d. at usc 20 years ago and a masters in biostatistics at stanford in 2009. >> obviously, she's a well studied, serious person, who has been through a lot of academic training. >> reporter: qualities that could work in her favor when she testifies next monday. kavanaugh is expected to testify, as well. a showdown sure to bring back memories of anita hill and clarence thomas. >> it's definitely a different time, but it dose. change the number of votes. it will depend how these witnesses come across. >> reporter: hundreds of classmates sent a letter saying

been in a coma since going into cardiac arrest more than a month ago. he was transferred tonight to stanford children's hospital after the oakland hospital said it would turn off his breathing machine, then reversed course to give the family more time. >> he still has brain function. he's not clinically brain dead. he's wiggling his toes. >> the children's hospital said it greatly empathizes with the family, but could not get into specifics on kingston's condition. flags across the state will be flown at half staff tomorrow to honor the sacramento county deputy gunned down this afternoon. 27-year-old deputy mark stazic and his partner were shot at an auto shop. the owner called police over a conflict with a customer. the other deputy is expected to survive. a bystander and suspect were also were shot.

we are getting an officer's view of a deadly police shooting in 2015. >> don't move! don't move! >> you just heard officer nicole rhodes breaking a window of a car with demuria hogg inside. they found him unconscious and tried to wake him for an hour. rhodes fired two shots, saying hogg reached for a gun on the seat. the shooting happened in june of 2015. police just released this video. she was cleared of potential charges. florence is still tearing its way across the east coast. you can see in this video a tornado tearing the roof off of a business in richmond, virginia. tat latest count, 32 people are dead in the wake of the storm, swi now a tropical depression. a team of san francisco first responders answered the call to service from fema, working in north carolina, where they're helping coordinate rescue efforts. they say it's been eye opening
