most importantly i want the american people to be happy. >> reporter: christine blasey ford, a psychology professor in california. this is her high school yearbook photo in the early '80s. around the time she said she was assaulted. telling dianne feinstein kavanaugh was drunk at a party when he groped her. kavanaugh called the allegation false. i've never done anything what the accuser described to her or anyone. an attorney for blasey ford says her client is ready to testify. >> she's willing to cooperate. he's not willing to be part of this blood letting that happens in washington. >> reporter: the top senate republican is blaming democrats for what he calls the 11th hour accusation. but democrats are demanding confirmation votes be put on hold. >> it is an insult, insult to the women of america, to rush this through, after these serious allegations have been made.

>> reporter: monday's hearing will delay a vote on the nomination. that was planned for later this week. president trump says he's okay with a little delay in this confirmation process. many people in the bay area and beyond are vocalizing their support for blasey ford who lives and works in palo alto. our reporter is in the newsroom with more on that part of the story. >> reporter: blasey ford is a mother of two, a surfer, and highly regarded professor who has been thrust into a position she says she was trying so hard to avoid, but many are applauding her decision to go public. >> we believe her. >> reporter: at uc berkeley, student activists came together to let everyone know they're ready to protest. >> to make sure the rights of women and christine blasey ford are defended in this country. >> reporter: it was a different scene at palo alto university where blasey ford teaches ph.d. students in psychology. students and staff had no comment and the professor's

car with demuria hogg inside. they found him unconscious and tried to wake him for an hour. rhodes fired two shots, saying hogg reached for a gun on the seat. the shooting happened in june of 2015. police just released this video. she was cleared of potential charges. florence is still tearing its way across the east coast. you can see in this video a tornado tearing the roof off of a business in richmond, virginia. tat latest count, 32 people are swi now a tropical depression. a team of san francisco first responders answered the call to service from fema, working in north carolina, where they're helping coordinate rescue efforts. they say it's been eye opening to watch folks from across the country work together to keep fellow americans safe. >> when they found out there's a team here from san francisco, who is always saying we're a long way from home, but they're thankful we're here to help out.

in the south bay, a novel tent village for the homeless may find a permanent home. advocates created hope village a week ago in an unused parking lot near the airport. the village was closed down today. but the residents moved to a new temporary space in another parking lot. city leaders are searching for a permanent location, saying they were impressed with how clean and orderly the village was. we're getting a look at one woman's solution to the area's affordable housing crisis. the mercury news i preparing to take on what many have dubbed the van life, as reporter amanda explains, this is unlike any van you've ever seen. >> reporter: tracy kaplan's future is parked outside her land lord's home. equipped with an oven and other
