brett kavanaugh and the bay area woman who accused him of sexual assault will both testify before the judiciary judiciary y on thursday, which means the vote for monday will be postponed. >> abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield live in palo alto with more. >> reporter: reggie, it's been quiet here, where she works. she's a professor at palo alto university. students and staff here have had knot comment. take a look at what a different scene it was at uc-berkeley where activists came together to show their support for her. they want everyone to know that they are ready to protest against brett kavanaugh and his nomination to the supreme court. >> we cannot allow someone who's a predator into our government. it's not safe, it's not fair and it's wrong.

>> reporter: palo alto university christine blasey ford teaches psychology and all of her social media pages have been taken down. she's expected to testify on capitol hill next week sp. so is kavanaugh. amy hollyfield, abc7 news. this morning we're getting an officer's view of a deadly police-involved shooting in oakland in 2015. take a look. >> don't move! don't move! don't move! don't move! >> you just saw officer nicole rhodes break a window of a car with demouria hogg inside. they found him unconscious in the car and tried to wake him up for an hour. rhodes fired two shots saying hogg reached for a gun on the seat. it happened in june of 2015. police just released this video. rhodes was clear of potential charges.

crosswalk safety is a big concern for parents after four students were hit by drivers in three separate incidents. all of the drivers were headed eastbound and police say they may have been blinded by the sun yesterday morning. police in brentwood say a 10-year-old was hit in a crosswalk and now recovering at uc-davis medical center. in antioch, a tenth grader at antioch high school was hit by a toyota 4 runner. the driver did not stop and ran off. two more students were hit at the same crosswalk an hour later and this time the driver did stop to help. an e-mail was sent to parents asking for them to talk to their kids about street safety. >> as a parent telling your child to make sure that you look both ways, that you get the attention of the driver before you cross the street. >> the antioch students were taken to the hospital and released. police are still searching for the hit-and-run driver this

morning. the license plate number is on the screen. anyone with information is to call antioch police. tornadoes and flooding remains serious threats in the aftermath of florence. the storm making its way to the northeast is blamed for at least 32 deaths. anna rivera from our sister station has the latest from one of the hardest-hit communities, wilmington, north carolina. >> reporter: more than 60,000 people in the wilmington, north carolina, area are still without power. many residents very happy because they're getting back to their homes on an island called wrightsfield beach. the roadways covered in water. take a look. we were there when a grandfather was reunited with his infant grandchild. she had to be evacuated before the storm. she was in a shelter but was stuck there because the highway was completely flooded. this is the snacene in wilmingt, north carolina, highways cut off and secondary roads also

credit cards were frad leudulen used in fremont and other cities in may and june. the victims say they used their cards a short time earlier at a gas station in brentwood sf. on the left is a sketch of a suspect wanted for robbing two women at kingsley avenue near waiverly avenue in palo alto. they say a man knocked the woman to the ground, stole her purse and the suspect good into a red colored suv or sedan. you're no more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. i want to check on novato and make sure that the lack of fog right there is true. it would be hard for a quarter mile visibility to move but, sure enough, they say it's seven miles. watch out anywhere along 37 and 101. temperatures in the mid-40s there also. you go over to the napa valley and we have mid to upper 50s. same thing near san rafael and

tiburon. cupertino and san jose, low 50s for you. here's a look at the golden gate bridge. not nearly as foggy as yesterday. light breeze. if you're exercising, sunshine in the afternoon hours. partial sunshine at the beaches today and a calmer and cool bay. here's a look at the east bay where we'll start off with mainly cloudy conditions today, 58. by 10:00, 60. sunshine and 64 at noon. we'll hang out in the upper 60s for the afternoon hours. the peninsula about the same. waking up to cloud cover and 57 at 8:00. sunshine at noon at 65. upper 60s to near 70 in the afternoon hours and last stop is east bay valley. very pleasant. we start off with clouds and 56. near 70 at noon. hope you enjoy it. we do have heat. 90s back in the accuweather seven-day forecast. i'll have that in a minute. here's alexis. >> thank you. not too much happening on the roads, which is great news.

we're not complaining. heading over and checking out a few of our usual busy stops. westbound 205 to 580 averaging 11 miles an hour up to 14 miles an hour. that's slow for seven, eight miles. that's the norm for you. bay bridge toll plaza, we got reports we have a disabled vehicle approaching lane number two. and don't have any metering lights yet. i'm not seeing any emergency crews there on the scene. i'll keep an eye on that. in the east bay, dockless scooters will stay on the streets of oakland while the city works out a permit process. last night the city council voted to regulate the scooter industry. the ordinance passed in a 6-1 vote after a heat debate from council president larry reed. he wanted to ban scooters until the details of the regulations are finalized. >> i got these scooters out there speeding up and down the street. >> that's right. let's pass an ordinance to prevent it. >> no. >> city officials have impounded

the stretch of cooler than average weather we've had, mid-60s to mid-70s. by the time we get to thursday, we're in the upper 60s but we're threatening 90 in the south bay. mid-90s in the east bay. near 90 in the north bay. i'll have the rest of your accuweather forecast in less than seven minutes. >> face fall! >> a park ranger pleaded for a man to back away from the old faithful geyser. boiling hot water erupts out of that geyser every half hour or so. at one point the man appeared to urinate into the landmark. the ranger ticketed him once he returned to the boardwalk. what is wrong with people? >> wow. moving on. two girls both abducted at a very young age are coming together this morning.

jaycee dugard went missing in 2001 sh 2001, elizabeth smart abducted in 20012. tomorrow smart's kidnapper is set to be released from jail, one of them. we're hearing from dugard, talking to abc only, in support of smart. she issued a statement saying, i feel deeply for what elizabeth is going through, knowing this dangerous person is free to walk the street. believe elizabeth when she says this swwoman is a threat to society. mcdonald's wants to send a message to the company about sexual harassment in the workplace. organizers say the strike will happen around lunchtime. according to forbes, nine employees filed charges against mcdonald's in may alone. according to the ap, they say we have policies, procedures and

training in place to specifically prevent sexual harassment and we firmly believe our franchisees share this commitment. new details in the east bay. a uc-berkeley professor has decided to retire instead of serve three years suspension for sexual harassment. he's accused of harassing a graduate student between 2012 and 2014. he repeatedly denied the allegations and his attorney plans to file a lawsuit over the spon villageor theomes may find a permanent home. advocatesn san jose unused parking lot near the airport. the village was closed down yesterday but its seven residents moved to a new temporary space in another parking lot. city leaders are now searching for a permanent location, saying they were impressed with how

clean and orderly the village was. teachers in the san francisco unified school district have been getting bigger paychecks but the money to pay them hasn't kicked in. voters approved prop "g" in june, to have a $5500 annual increase. the parcel tax has not been mailed to homeowners. they plan to process the raises while developing a plan to protect the financial well-being of the district. people in san jose may have been overcharged for water. the silicon valley business journal reports the california public utilities commission is now launching a formal investigation into san jose water. the utility company is accused of overcharges totaling up to $9 million and for failing to proceed rate charges for at least 30 years prior to the year 2017. in a statement, san jose water says its billing practice was in compliance with the way it

interpreted the rules. the company says it acknowledges different interpretations, though, may apply. a popular kracraft brewing company will open a new company. russian river will open on the corner of condi and mitchell lane. russian river says the new restaurant has a bigger menu than the downtown santa rosa location, and also year-round patio seating, a tasting room. and free tours of the brewery. whoa! >> hello there. yep. a bear broke into a car and then broke the window to get out. happened in asheville, north carolina, over the weekend. the car owners say they tried several ways to help the bear, even opening a sliding door remotely. in the end, the trapped bar got out of the car nascar-style,

getting busy. have not gotten word the metering lights are on. keeping an eye on that as that ramps up. starting to improve. westbound 580 at highway 13 in oakland. we had lanes scheduled to be closed at 5:00 a.m. i believe it went a little late this morning. they are working on picking that up and that backup is starting to unwind. a little red as you can see on the traffic maps. benicia bridge at the 680 and 780 split, the semitruck has been cleared. saudi arabia's sovereign wealth fund is investing in lucid motors. this comes days after musk said saudi arabia would help tesla go public. lucid hopes to deliver their first vehicle in 2020.

president trump will impose tariffs on $200 billion worth of chinese imports. 10% next week,5%inanuary. but apple's plea to dodge the tariffs appears to have paid off. reports say apple watch and air pods are spared from the latest round. earlier this month apple asked the u.s. trade representative to reconsider putting the items on the list of goods impacted. shares of apple stock jumped after that report came out. in today's gma first look, spacex is revealing the identity of the first space tourist who will pay millions to go into orbit. >> abc's david kerley has details. >> reporter: in this morning's "gma first look," the man who send his tesla roadster towards mars now has a paying customer who wants to go to the moon. japanese clothing magnate is buying an entire mission, not just for himself. he wants to take six to eight artists with him, on his dime.

the parents of this 6-month-old boy have been praying for a miracle to heal their son. >> their son has been in a coma for more than a month and last night they moved the boy to a new hospital after they said an oakland facility originally wanted to take him off of life support. abc7 news reporter matt keller is live in palo alto. >> jessica, this experience has been unbearable for kingston holmes' parents. they pleaded for more time and they got it. their 6-month-old son is now here at stanford. >> i have a lot of mixed emotions, you know. this is one of the most devastating things i've ever been through. >> reporter: kingston has been this a coma since going into cardiac arrest a month ago. on friday his parents were given a letter from the hospital informing them his life support would be discontinued 1:00 p.m. yesterday due to irreversible brain injury. a rally was held in oak lapped

efforts. they say it's eye-opening to watch people across the country work together to keep fellow americans safe. >> when they find out there's a team here from san francisco, they tell us we're a long way from home but they're super thankful we're here to help out. >> the biggest challenge is safely getting people back into their homes. the american red cross is organizing a relief effort for people affected by the storm. you can make a $10 donation by texting florence to 90999. happening today, flags across the state will be flown at half-staff to honor the sacramento county deputy killed in the line of duty. 27-year-old deputy mark stasyuk and his partner were shot yesterday. the owner of the auto shop called police over a conflict with a customer. the suspect fired at the officers as they encounter him. he was hit in the upper body and his partner hit in the arm. the suspect was also wounded in exchange of gunfire with other officers.

stasyuk had been with the department for five years. legislators will call on governor brown to enact the strongest net neutrality measures in the country. if the governor signs the bill, it would prevent internet service providers from blocking or slowing down websites or charging for faster speeds. unlike previous laws, this bill would limit data plans and also allow companies breaking the rules to be prosecuted. in the east bay, the oakland unified school district will get $3 million in aid. governor brown signed the education trailer bill, provi providing relief for the district. under the bill the state will cover up to 75% of the deficit in the first year. up to 50% in the second year. and up to 25% in the third year. also in the east bay, a shock for customers at a cell phone store when a band of robbers rushed in, cleaned out the place. happened at a t-mobile store at the park and shop shopping center in concord last night. you can see the display tables

are now ptthcr is grab and dash thefts at six bay area apple stores last month. police have made no arrests in last night's robbery. this is a theft that happened at a cafe last year. it became quite the problem. that's why undercover officers are now going to keep watch at a number of cafes around the city. the standard advice is to be aware of your surroundings and always keep your laptop with you. in cases like this, thieves were coming into cafes and stealing these computers right from people's hands. >> it's so brazen. wow. >> that's amazing. you're never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. post tropical florence with winds o miles a hour, moving to the eas at 13 miles an h5 million people in jeopardy of flash flooding today and tomorrow. that's the area in green from d.c. up to boston. if you're flying into that area,

talk about the morning commute. >> not too much so far. off to a quiet start on this tuesday morning. taking you out to the central valley where, no surprise, we have some delays out of tracy. westbound 205 about 9 miles an hour up to 12 miles an hour once you make it to 580. that lasts for several miles. nothing blocking along that route. 280 inbound side, no major delays. you can see things are starting to fill in. we're okay with mass transit right now, but next weekend it will be another story. you remember the major track repairs b.a.r.t. has been doing. we have another one between 19th and west oakland stations. that means you'll have to get off the train and onto a bus bridge instead between 19th street and west oakland. that is all day saturday and sunday. definitely expect some significant delays due to that. just hearing about a new crash in the fremont area. we'll check that out coming up next. thousands of people will need to adjust their morning commute when b.a.r.t. begins a four-year earthquake retro fit

project in february. >> we've been telling you about this as we have been hearing about it. most of the construction will be done overnight but regular train service will be pushed back an hour. it will start at 5:00 a.m. according to the chronicle, b.a.r.t. will offer three express bus services for commuters who need an earlier start. so, those buses will run between 3:50 and 4:40 in the morningfro area. most of them will end at the sales force transit center. free cable car rides are costing san francisco money. riders working undercover tried to board cars without paying a fare. there were 100 attempts, 24 were successful. dercolct costing the city almost $2,000, according to the study. still an improvement from last year. when operators failed to collect payment from almost 600 riders. roseanne is not happy about how her character is getting written off the show "roseanne".
