this national story. staff and students have not commented but that is not the case over at uc-berkeley. take a look at what happened on that campus. here at cal, activists came out to protest. they're showing their support for christine blasey ford and they say they believe her. they say they're ready to protest. one demonstrator explains why they came out and what they hope to get across. >> you make sure democracy and the rights of women and chris steen blasey ford are supported in this country. >> reporter: ford teaches ph.d. students psychology at palo alto university. her social media pages have been taken down but she's not publicly stepped out yet. her attorney has been doing the talking for mou, but she is expected to testify next week on capitol hill. ford's attorney says she passed a lie detector test and a

therapist documented her story from a session six years ago. reporting live in palo alto, amy holyfield, abc7 news. this morning we are getting an officer's view of a deadly police-involved shooting in oakland in 2015. take a look. >> don't move! >> what you're watching is officer nicole rhodes breaking the window of a car. inside demouria hogg, they found him unconscious in the car and they say they tried to wake him up for an hour. rhodes fired two shots saying hogg reached for a gun on the seat. the shooting happened in june of 2015. police have just released the video. rhodes was cleared of potential charges. crosswalk safety is a big concern for parents in the east bay after four students were hit by drivers in three separate incidents. coincidentally, all the drivers were headed eastbound and police say they may have been blinded by the sun yesterday morning. police in brent wood say a 10-year-old was hit in a

crosswalk. she's now recovering at uc-davis medical center. in antioch, a tenth grader at antioch high school was hit by a toyota 4 runner. that driver did not stop. two more students were hit in the same crosswalk an hour later. this time the driver stopped and helped. an e-mail was sent to parents, asking them to talk to their kids about street safety. >> as a parent telling your child to make sure that you look both ways, that you -- that you get the attention of the driver before you cross the street. >> antioch students were taken to the hospital and released. police are still serving for the hit-and-run driver. the suspect vehicle license plate is on your screen. anyone with information is asked to call antioch police. tornadoes and flooding aftermath of florence. the storm is blamed for 32 deaths. anna rivera from our sister

station has a report from wilmington, north carolina. >> reporter: more than 60,000 people in the wilmington, north carolina, area are still without power but many residents very happy because they're getting back to their homes on an island outside wilmington called wrightsfield beach. we were near leland, north carolina, where the conditions are pretty bad. roadways covered in water. we were there when a grandfather was reunited with his infant grandchild. she had to be evacuated before the storm. she was in a shelter but stuck there because the highway was completely flooded. this is the scene in a lot of north carolina, wilmington completely cut off by highways that are flooded and secondary roads also impassable. north carolina's governor is coming to wilmington later on today. he'll be here surveying the damage and seeing what this storm left behind. i'm anna rivera in wilmington, north carolina. abc-owned stations across the country are providing support in wilmington. you're looking at our sister

temperatures across san francisco. they're just about where they were yesterday from 54 in sunset to about 57 in the financial district. we've got temperatures in the mid to upper 50s down the east bay shore. look at that palo alto, santa clara, pet lumina in the mid to upper 40s. fog-free golden gate bridge. exercising, look for sun in the afternoon. beaches, yeah, partial sunshine today and temperature about 60. and on the bay, no small craft advisory. here's a look at the east bay. we're 58 to 60 from 8:00 to 10:00. then you can see temperatures jumping into the upper 60s

a park ranger pleading for a man to back away from the old faithful geyser at yellowstone national park over the weekend. if you've been, you know that's boiling hot water and erupts out of that geyser every 30 minutes or so. at one point, the man appeared to urinate into the landmark. the ranger ticketed him once he returned to the boardwalk. this, jessica, is why we can't have nice things. >> oh, wow. yikes. two girls, both abducted at a young age are coming together this morning. jaycee dugard disappeared in 2001 and elizabeth smart went

missing in 2002. both abducted and held captive for years before breaking free. both are trying to adjust to a normal life. tomorrow one of smart's kidnappers is going to be set free from jail. we're now hearing from dugard, on the left, she's talking only to abc news in support of smart. dugard issued this exclusive statement saying, quote, i feel deeply for what elizabeth is going through knowing this dangerous person is free to walk the street. believe elizabeth when she says this woman is a threat to society. new at 6:00, a federal judge has thrown out a lawsuit against uc-berkeley filed by an oakland resident after she got attacked during a protest last year. she was pepper sprayed during an interview with abc news in february last year. she planned to taenattend a spe that was canceled after protests turned violent. she says her rights were violated when she was subjected to bodily harm because she was expressing a conserative

viewpoint. the judge says she is not provided enough evidence to support support those claims. in the south bay, a tent village for the homeless may find a permanent home. advocates in san jose created hope village a week ago on an unused parking lot near the airport. the village was closed down yesterday, but its seven residents moved to a new temporary space in another parking lot. city leaders are now searching for a permanent location, saying they were impressed with how clean and orderly that village was. teachers in the san francisco unified school district have reportedly been getting bigger paychecks but the money to pay for it hasn't kicked in. voters approved prop "g" in june. it's supposed to generate a $5500 annual increase to teachers salaries through parcel tax. the parcel tax has not yet been mailed to homeowners. the district says it will continue processing the raises while developing a plan to

protect the financial well-being of the district. well, hello there. a bear broke into a car and then broke a window to get out. this happened in asheville, north carolina, over the weekend. the car owners say they tried several ways to help the bear, even opening a sliding door remotely. the bear was not having it. so, it got out nascar style after destroying everything inside. oops. does insurance cover that? >> i don't think so. does it? >> a bear attack. >> i haven't seen that commercial yet, farmers insurance, those crazy commercials. haven't seen that yet. i'm guessing -- >> there's good footage if they want to use it. let's talk about what's going on. we've got good footage of low clouds hanging around. you can see from the camera, waking up with sunshine in the south bay. this is 280 and 17. clouds haven't quite made it down there and probably won't

a little more fog in the north bay and upper 40s mid-50s. great sleeping weather once again. my accuweather seven-day forecast, the heat spikes inland. this is not an offshore event so the heat never makes it to the bay and the coast. by the time we get to monday next week, we're firmly entrenched in ougautumn and it l feel like it. here's alexis. >> we have a traffic alert if you're traveling in the richmond area, westbound 80 near san pablo dam road. we have a crash blocking the two left lanes. sounds like three vehicles involved in this along with injuries. definitely seeing that line of red increase. about a 15-minute delay from highway 4. you're averaging anywhere from 25 miles an hour in hercules down to 6 miles an hour as you get closer to the crash scene. that's our slowest spot. we have two crashes southbound 680, first at auto mall parkway and another at mission boulevard. one lane blocked in both of those situations. you are starting to back up into

bay. that's why you're in the mid-60s to upper 60s inland. we'll barely reach the 70s. you have to go inland today and back in the 50s and 60s by 7:00. kind of cool today. how about traffic? here's alexis. >> unfortunately, no, we have a lot to talk about in the traffic center. in fact, we have two new sigalerts, one on 680 at auto mall parkway and one that's been there for quite some time at siise route 262 at mevd.on sounds like two left lanes are blocked in either collision. so sigalert issued for both of those a few minutes ago by chp. flipping over and checking out our drive times, westbound 580 tracy to dublin, 56 minutes. i think this will climb significantly here. southbound 680 dublin to mission boulevard about 33 minutes right now. about a 15-minute delay for you. northbound 85, 101 to cupertino, that's in the green at 15 minutes. >> you have to feel for the parents of a 6-month-old baby boy. they've been praying for a miracle to heal their son. >> their son has been in a coma

for more than a month. last night they moved the boy to hey new hospital after they said an oakland facility originally wanted to take their son off life support. abc7 news reporter matt keller is live in palo alto with the story. matt? >> reporter: good morning, jessica and reggie. fo.olngnto pe s is now here at at he' >> i feel that he has more room to improve and i want him to have some time so we can all witness this. >> reporter: the 6-month-old boy has been in a coma since going into cardiac arrest more than a month ago. on friday kingston's parents were given a letter from oakland's ucsf benioff hospital informing them his life support would be discontinued 1:00 p.m. yesterday. the parents say doctors made. the decision without consulting them. the decision was reversed to give the family more time. kingston was transferred to stanford children's hospital last night.

the suspect fired at the officers as they encountered him. stasyuk was hit in the upper body and his partner hit in the arm. the suspect was also wounded in an exchange of gunfire with other officers. he had been with that department for nearly five years. happening today in san francisco, legislators will call on governor brown to enact the strongest net neutrality protections in the nation. if the governor signs the bill, it would prevent internet service providers from blocking or slowing down websites or charging for faster speeds. unlike previous bills, this big would limit data plans and also allow companies breaking the rules to be prosecuted. in the east bay, the oakland unified school district will get millions of dollars in aid over the next three years. governor brown signed the education trailer bill, which will provide financial relief for the district. the district estimates a budget shortfall of $30 million next school year. under the bill, the state will cover up to 75% of the deficit in the first year, up to 50% in the second and up to 25% in the

third year. in the east bay it was really a shock for customers as a cell phone store was robbed. you can see that everything has been cleaned out of the place. those robbers rushed in, took everything at the t-mobile shop in concord last night. look at this. those shelves are empty. the crime is similar to the grab and dash thefts at six apple stores last month. police have made no arrests. berkeley place are taking a pretty big step to help curb laptop thefts at cafes. thefts like this one that happened at a cafe last year are an ongoing problem. that's why undercover officers will now keep watch at a number of cafes around the city. the standard advice from police is to be aware of your surroundings and always keep your laptop with you, but in some of these cases, thieves have been stealing computers right from people's hands. governor brown has signed a bill designated to regulate

balcony construction and inspections. the bill is forcing contractors that settle lawsuits for $1 million or more to publicly report the settlements. it also requires balconies at apartment complexes be inspected every six years. it's all in response to the 2015 accident in berkeley where six irish students died after a fifth floor balcony collapsed. you're never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. you have to dress warm in most places in the south bay. 46 right now in morgan hill. 48 in redwood city and bodega bay. everybody else in the 50s. alameda, 57, one of our warm spots. here's a look at low clouds causing issues along the peninsula, flight delays into sfo. haven't heard of drizzle or mist. fog in the north bay but not as widespread as yesterday. ferry ride, not as breezy.

take a look at the cloud cover. stubborn. up through lunch we're in the 50s. a little more sunshine in the afternoon hours and we'll hit the low to mid-60s. for the south bay we'll see 53 with sunshine today. 68 at noon to mid-70s in the afternoon. grab a coat for the evening hours. 63 at 8:00. we'll go to the north bay where we have a mixture of clouds and fog and 55 degrees. by noon we're 67. hanging out in the mid-70s in the afternoon hours. and under the stars we'll drop do unto 63 degrees at 8:00. it was an hour ago the last time you and i stood right here and talked and you said it was pretty quiet outside, as i imagine things have changed. >> quite a bit has happened in the last hour here. in fact, i've got several updates to give you. we were up to three sigalerts, three separate crashes. two out of three have cleared. things are starting to improve. let's take you up to the richmond area, westbound 80 at san pablo dam road. all cleared. all lanes are back open. we have residual delays on

highway 4, averaging so miles an hour. hopefully that will thin out shortly. down in fremont, coming southbound 680 from sunol, we had two sigalerts, southbound 680 at auto mall parkway and mission boulevard. the first one at auto mall parkway has cleared but we still have the crash blocking the two left lanes approaching mission boulevard. that's still a sigalert. stick to 880 corridor if possible. in the east bay, dockless skoolt scooters will stay on the b parking lots in oakland. the ordinance passed after a heated debate from council president larry reid. he wanted to ban scooters until details are finalized. >> i got these scooters out there speeding up and down the streets. >> let's pass an ordinance to prevent it. >> no. >> in santa cruz, city officials have impounded about 60 bird scooters after sending the

company a cease and desist letter, according to the santa cruz sentinel. bird says it wants to work closely with city officials to legally keep scooters on city streets. i feel like these are very polarizing. there are some folks who love them, say they're so much fun, a great way to get around and get you where you need to go faster and there are some who say, hey, these are dangerous, they're an eye sore, left all over the sidewalks. so, yeah, you can go either way there. it's definitely a hot issue in the bay area and a lot of cities around the country. >> there has to be middle ground. >> the video in santa cruz, almost every shot we have is of the scooters on the sidewalk and not the street. which is where they're supposed to be. >> that's a big problem and folks not wearing helmets or using using them in bike lanes, using them how they're not supposed to be used. >> good luck, everyone. >> i'm sure we'll hear a lot more about this. >> yes, thank you. roseanne reveals how her character will be killed off her hit tv show and she's not happy about it. and a live look now at the

let's talk about florence quickly. 17 tornadoes in virginia yesterday. the big threat is for flood pentagon nearly 15 million people in the green could be flooded today. flash flooding at that, which means it happens immediately from this rain. it's about 1 to 3 inches that's going to fall. for us back here at home, we have 80s through the central valley. low 60s at the coast. 105 at palm spring. here's a look at tahoe's seven-day forecast. low to mid-70s tuesday through saturday. the dry cold front puts us in the upper 60s monday. new video this morning shows supreme court nominee brett kavanaugh leaving his maryland home. this was about 20 minutes ago. news cameras have been staked outside his home. kavanaugh did not respond to questions about whether the sexual assault allegations made against him by a palo alto professor are true. that professor accusing kavanaugh of sexual assault will get her chance to tell her story in front of congress and, of

the three days. here's a look at the cloud cover. by noon there's still plenty of clouds around the bay. by 3:00 that's when it's almost completely clear but never really does. the coast will be cloudy all day today. let's take a look at our temperatures. we go from 69 in milpitas. san jose, 73. gilroy, 78 in the south bay. redwood city being the lone 70. 60 along the peninsula coast with cloud cover. sunshine in bay area. 63 in downtown san francisco but we should be around 70 this time of year. mid to low 70s in cloverdale. 66 in berkeley, oakland and richmond and then the valleys with 76 to 78 degrees. going to the game, a's and angels, 68 to dress appropriately. let's see that warming trend. it's mainly inland. it's not an offshore event. it really never reaches the bay even though you get to 80 thursday.
