the incident and will not testify. team coverage with abc news lana zak in washington. >> reporter: dr. ford's attorney tells cnn her client will cooperate but that the call for a hearing on monday is premature. >> there's no reason we should have a public hearing on monday given what has occurred and when it occurred. this is too important to be rushed through. this is a serious situation. >> reporter: her allegation tags nominee bret kavanaugh sexually assaulted her when drunk at a high school party in the 1980s upaccepteded washington. democrats want the fbi to investigate before the hearings proceed. >> there must be an agreement on witnesses and the fbi should be given time to reopen its background collect investigation into judge kavanaugh making it much less likely that it will devolve into a he said, she said affair. >> reporter: and even though the fbi is charged with background checks, president trump says he will not order them to follow

up. >> i don't think the fbi really should be involved because they don't want to be involved. they say this is not really their thing, but i think politically speaking the senators will do a very good job. >> reporter: in a tuesday night letter to chuck grassley, her attorneys detailed the threws she's received and ask him to discuss reasonable steps how dr. ford can cooperate while also taking care of her own health and security. kavanaugh has vehemently denied the allegation. mitch mcconnell says if blasey ford does not want to plaerl publicly she may testify privately. that should happen on monday. lana zak, abc news 7 washington. >> anna eschoo was first approached by the accuser over the summer. since then there's been growing support for dr. ford. we have the details from the south bay. >> reporter: congresswoman anna

eschoo had an hour and a half long conversation with christine blasey ford in mid-july. ford reportedly shared details about the attack she says happened when she and bret were high school students in suburban washington, d.c. >> it was very obvious to me that she was scarred by her experience. >> reporter: eschoo tells chief white house correspondent jonathan karl she suggested ford write to senator diane fine sfin. as the existence of that letter leaked ford said it was her civic responsibility to come forth with the story. ford's lawyers wrote to grassley saying since she went public, her worst fears materializes and she's become a target of vicious harassment and even death threats. but a separate letter to blassy ford written by a group of enpen mother s offers the psychology professor a helping hand. supporters will protest in front
