democrats, the chairman chuck grassley accuses them of abuse of the process. >> we have a deadline of october 1st. that's when the supreme court starts. and i think we ought to meet it. >> this nomination has been pushed and pushed and pushed with artificial ted lines. >> reporter: the attorney for dr. christine blasey ford, the woman who accused kavanaugh of sexual assault while both were in high school, says a hearing with only two witnesses is not a fair or good faith investigation. >> it seems the republicans have no sense. have they never dealt with a sexual assault victims? do they not read anything? do they not know how hard it is for someone to up forward? >> reporter: democrats still stung by republicans refusing the even meet with merrick garland, president obama's nominee in 2016 are upset that republicans are rushing to get brett kavanaugh's confirmation done before the midterm election and president trump is urging both patience and speed. >> i want to give it all the

time they need. they've already given it time. they've delayed a major hearing. >> senator grassly is under increasing pressure from fellow republicans to- forward with the nomination process, and he says under oath judge kavanaugh denied these accusations. lana zack, abc news, washington. >> at least one republican on the committee believes that it is about delaying the vote until after the midterm election. senator graham talked about it on "fox news." >> we will be doing the hearing on monday. she can come if she would like. kavanaugh can come if he would like, i think he will. we are voting on wednesday. >> blasey has received threats and vicious harassment according to her lawyers. she is also receiving a lot of report. >> reporter: the world hasn't heard from dr. christine blasey ford since she was named the

accuser against supreme court nominee brett kavanaugh. according to her lawyers people are sending death threats. >> the trolls of the world have no problems making comments and getting their voices heard so i thought we -- how can we combat that for her? how can we counter the hate mail she is getting? >> reporter: neighbor kristen wants to fill her mailbox with letters of love. she says letters have been pouring in by the dozens within the palo alto community and beyond. people writing from singapore, denmark, even france. palo alto mayor says she believes more women experienced the type of sexual misconduct blasey ford says she suffered. if you are a victim, there are resources available to you. >> we do have a rape crisis center that we can put them in touch with. i hope that if something like that happens they do call 911, especially so it is on record. >> reporter: blasey ford's friend and former co-worker lucy tate spoke with "abc 7 news." >> there is no personal gain

that she has from this. this is all really, i think, if anything she has got everything to lose here. >> reporter: blasey ford's supporters say regardless of what happens, her bravery will stand. in the south bay, i'm amanda cass till yo, "abc 7 news." >> you might see a big sign of the support for christine blasey ford in the sky over the peninsula near her home. a plane will fly over palo alto with a banner reading, thank you, christine, we have your back. >> we can at least thank her for doing this really incredibly hard thing, but most people frankly in her position would not do. >> the women's advocacy group known as ultraviolet is paying for the banner. a gofundme account has been set up to raise money to pay for blasey ford's security costs. more than $208,000 has been raised. that surpasses the original goal of $100,000, and according to the website any extra funds will

go to women's organizations. turning our attention to the weather now, a red flag warning just went into effect for the hills tonight. >> let's get to "abc 7 news" meteorologist sandhya patel for conditions over the next 24 hours. >> larry and ama, we are facing critical fire weather conditions. that red flag warning in effect for the hills, northeast bay his, santa cruz mountains until 5:00 p.m. tomorrow. gusts to 35 miles per hour, low humidity means any fires that develop could spread rapidly. hawkeye, gusting out of the northeast at 21. mount tam, 20 miles per hour. those winds are increasing in the hills and here is what they're going to do to the humidity. the humidity is just going to plunge across parts of the north bay, down to 10% at cloverdale. 13%, fairfield. single digits by the time we head into noon time tomorrow afternoon. lake fort, cloverdale, 8% to 9%. that's why the fire danger is running higher.

ama. >> thank you. the largest wildfire in california's history is officially fully contained. crews finally have a line all the way around the mendocino complex, the twin fires that erupted in july, 54 days ago. the ranch and river fires destroyed 157 homes and killed one firefighter. the cause remains under investigation. contaminated water from melted pipes affected homes following last year's north bay fires, but now residents are being told the water will soon be safe to drink again. some are not so sure. "abc 7 news" reporter lilian kim joins us live from santa rosa. lilian. >> reporter: larry, this is one of the testing sites city workers receive the water from inside this green box, and they say lately the results have been reassuring. >> i had them designed. >> reporter: before these were installed, this $5,000 filter, he couldn't use the water inside his own home. the city told him it was contaminated. >> the city actually brought the

water up with a truck, with a water truck. now we just fill buckets. >> reporter: but at a community meeting, employees of santa rosa water informed fountain grove homeowners recent water tests have been promising. they spent months identifying and fixing the problem which came to their attention when people noticed that the water had a strong odor. turned out it was benzene, the cancer-causing compound leached into the water system from plastic pipes that melted during october's tubbs fire. >> all of the data in the advisory area came back and meets all regulatory requirements, federal and state drinking water requirements for safe water. >> reporter: crews replaced more than 440 water lines, three water mains and eight fire hydrants at a cost of $8 million. still, many homeowners, most of whom have yet to rebuild, are convinced that the work that's done is enough. >> it causes questions when you have flint, michigan and other water problems in the country. you just don't know. >> reporter: the city says

regular testing will continue for as long as necessary. good enough for him. >> the only thing of course is i have to start paying for the water again. so that's the only thing. >> reporter: santa rosa water is hoping to lift the advisory early next month. live in santa rosa, lilian kim, "abc 7 news." >> thank you. president trump is back in washington, d.c. tonight after spending much of the day in the carolinas meeting with victims of hurricane florence. the president handed out hot meals, hugged ress tent and thanked first responders and rescuers. more than 4,000 people were saved from floodwaters in north carolina alone. >> citizens across our country rallied together to rescue the stranded, to protect the innocent and to restore hope to families. >> the president described florence as one of the most powerful storms to hit the country. he promised quick and lasting federal assistance. the american red cross is organizing a relief

pe the people affected by the storm. we have new pictures of a car believed to be involved in a deadly hit-and-run drive in santa rosa. the driver took off after hitting a man this past saturday night. these pictures are from surveillance cameras at businesses near there. you can see a white sedan possibly with a spoiler on the back. the car should now have major damage to its front. santa rosa police are asking anybody with information to please call them. new at 11:00, getting to or from treasure island is about to come at a cost. the saf examiner reports in 2021 county transportation officials will chart a $3.50 toll during peak hours on weekdays. on weekends it will be $1 and free during off-peak hours. so next time you hop on one of the motorized scooters you may not have to wear a helmet.

terrifying night in the east bay for a young woman. she says she was riding her bike when two men pointed what appeared to be a large gun at her. "abc 7 news" reporter kate larsen spoke to the victim who says the incident could have ended in a different way. >> i looked up and saw a kid leaning out of a car window shooting at me with what -- it looked like kind of like a machine gun. >> reporter: this young woman seen on surveillance video riding her bike near 35th avenue in oakland was followed closely by a white hatch back on sunday evening. >> i looked down. i had paint and blood on my leg and had been hit a few times in my back. >> reporter: the victim who does not want to be identified showed us paint residue on her bike clothing. she says two men in their teens

or 20s drove by her in the white car moments after the video was recorded. she said one of them shot her without saying a word. at first she was hesitant to call police because she was afraid their paint ball gun might be mistaken for the real thing. >> it could have resulted in a fatal injury for either one of us, whether it had been me because i swerved or had been hit or them because it looked like they were carrying a big gun. >> reporter: the victim tells me she tried to file a report with oakland police but has not been able to get through to the department. i spoke to opd who says they have not seen a pattern of paint ball incidents but that they are concerned and would like to investigate. they say this could be considered assault. in oakland, i'm kate larson, "abc 7 news." a wildlife museum is looking to spread its wings and may move out of walnut kreef. the lindsay wildlife experience and animal hospital has been at the current location more than 60 years. the museum's lease is about to expire. executives say they're negotiating the renew the lease with the city of walnut creek

but are looking from a bigger space to expand. you may not believe this one. a teacher in new hampshire is facing charges after this video appeared on social media. look here. police say he told a child climb inside this game and steal some prizes. you see the man pulls prizes out and helps the girl out of the machine. helsinki is facing charges including theft and engangering the welfare of a child. the middle school where he works has placed him on leave. maybe not the role model they're looking for there. >> yeah. that's just awful. poor kid. all right. let's turn to our weather because we have a lot to talk about. >> here is sandhya. >> we have a beautiful sunset to talk about and then some heat. sundown, 7:11 tonight from the east bay his camera. there was no fog in sight as the sun was setting. so the fog we had earlier this morning was swept away by a northerly wind. it is a very drying wind, which is why we are keeping an eye on it. right now as we take a look at live doppler 7, there's no fog.

it is clear across the entire bay area, setting the stage for a warmer to hotter day. right now the temperatures are mostly in the 50s to 60s, but we do have 48 in half moon bay and 70 degrees in brentwood. so where are we heading? it has been cooler than average for several days, not so much today but as we head into the next few days it is going to be well above average. livermore's average high, 84 degrees. you are in the 90 the next couple of days. temperatures fall a little bit heading through the weekend and then back up again, into the 90s. you know september and october can be very warm to even hot month here in the bay area and that's what we're going to experience. today's temperatures were up, by the way, low 60s to the upper 80s. from our east bay his camera, a little bit of a bouncing view as that's where we're experiencing the breezy conditions right now. it will turn gusty in the hills with higher fire danger. warmer, coast. hotter inland tomorrow with the heat easing over the weekend. i want to show you the fire danger risk. this is actually a forecast

model. tomorrow morning you see the shades of oranges and yellows. those are the areas with moderate to very high risk of fire danger, and it is pretty clear it is primarily over the hills, 10:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. you will see that the higher terrain where the wind is very drying, the fuels are pretty much dry, the vegetation, you get a combination of the drying winds and the dry fuels and that could mean some very bad conditions for firefighters and obviously for people who live around here. so keep an eye on the winds. midnight tonight, northerly in the north bay. in the hills in particular heading into the hours of the morning continuing in that direction and that's what we're keeping an eye on as we head into tomorrow. but that downsloping wind will also push the temperatures up across the bay area. tomorrow morning, anywhere from the mid 40s to the upper 50s. windy in the hills. clear skies across the region. tomorrow afternoon, get ready for warmer weather. 88 in san jose. 87, los gatos. santa clara, you're going to notice, 94 in gilroy.

rbi. the a's shut out the angels 10-0. their magic number to clinch a playoff spot is six. the team they're chasing in the al west the astros. had kick el on the mound against the mariners at home tonight. kick el, it was a painful one for him. look at that. taking the comebacker off the head. that was in the first inning. he would stay in. gave up three runs in that inning. kyle sieger making sure he's oak. kuekel ended up giving five out of five innings. the a's are four behind houston now. a's could not gain any ground on the yankees who beat the 103-win red sox. voight hit not one but two home runs in this game. those are his eighth and ninth of the season. the yankees win big. 10-1. they continue to lead the a's by 2 1/2 games for the top wild card. well, this little guy wasn't even around last time the giants swept the padres in a three-game set. it was two-and-a-half years ago.

they were trying tonight. bases loaded for pitcher stratton and his first career double and he unloads them. stratton gave it all and more back in the bottom half of the innings. five runs allowed. will meyers capped off with a two-run shot. stratton lasted just three innings. freddie put the game out of reach with a three-run home run in the eighth. there will be no sweep as the padres win 8-4. erik karlsson stepped on the ice with his new team after dealing with visa issues. he got into san jose last night and had pizza, went to bed and got ready for work this morning. the two-time norris trophy winner skated at this morning's practice. the league's tom defenseman is excited about joining a stanley cup contender. >> i'm coming into a group that has been together for a long time, that have good chemistry and you know it is my job to try to fit in as good as i possibly can to that group, and whatever that might be, to -- to help contribute to win hockey games.
