my integrity. kavanaugh says he's been ready for a hearing all week. the first person to hear her bombshell accusations. reporter david louie sat down with her earlier today. david, she has so much perspective. we haven't heard yet about how everything played out. >> reporter: that is true, ama and larry. imagine being the person to sit down and hear the accusations for the first time from dr. blasey ford. what would you do? peninsula congresswoman anna he shall auto is the person who did that. we sat down together and she gave us important insight into what she learned during a 1.5-hour meeting she won't soon fo forget. >> i was sitting right here and she sat right here. >> congresswoman, you've actually had the opportunity to sit down with dr. blasey ford when she came to you the very first time. what do you remember about that meeting? was she -- did she have trepidation or nervous about approaching you with what she knew or wanted to tell you? >> first of all, we had never

met before. i had never met her, she hadn't met me. she called my office and requested an appointment to meet with me. and so it was a first time that we had met one another. in fact, we sat right at this table in this room here in this office. i think that she was probably nervous. i think, you know, the title is somewhat intimidating. congress, congresswoman. but clearly, she had -- she had every reason, she had thought it through. she had made the call. she wanted to come in and meet with me. when i flew back from washington that week, the appointment was set up and we met. she's very intelligent, soft-spoken. but it was very apparent to me that she was scarred by the experience that she shared with

hills as we are still expecting low humidity along with a little bit of a breeze. so take a look at the winds in hills. they have dropped off considerably from earlier. overnight, they were the windiest. obviously, oakland hills gusting to 15. knoxville creek, 13 mile an hour winds. that's dropping the humidity down to 12% in concord, 14% in vacville, which is one of the biggest concerns in the bay area right now. it's also warm to hot across many parts of bay area. from the 80s and 90s away from the coast. i'll be back to let you know how long the heat is sticking around. larry? >> thank you, sandhya. three people are recovering after being rescued at mason in san francisco this morning. a woman called 9-1-1 before 5:30 this morning. she and two friends were stuck on a cliff and needed help. that is all she could tell them. being on landmarks dispatchers

make noise so rescuers could hear them. it took them 30 minutes before they were found. one man was floating. he was unconscious in the water. the woman and another man were found on the cliffs. the man in the water is now in the hospital. the other two were also checked out by medics. police are saying little about a man arrested today during a barricade situation in east oakland. officers responded to the area after neighbors reported someone armed with a rifle walking through yards on seminary avenue. police tracked the man to a used car lot nearby where he barricaded himself inside for two hours. he was extremely upset but waited him out and he surrendered without incident. >> policies dictate deescalation of force is paramount. as today, you can see with patien patience, time, communication, we were able to not use any force. this individual did surrender and peacefully. >> officer watson says they searched the area for a weapon

index funds also beat the all-time high it set last month. big technology companies were leading the charge on wall street as facebook and microsoft posted big gains. not all good news today. wells fargo is planning to cut 10% of its workforce. that could be tens of thousands of jobs lost at the third largest bank. it currently employs 265,000 workers and plans to cut through both attrition and layoffs. ceo tim sloan says changes are needed because customers are turning more to digital banking. it's coming by the year 2021, drivers have to pay a toll to get on and off treasure island. that's on top of the already expensive bay bridge toll. >> during peak hours weekdays, it will cost $3.50. on weekend, it will be $1 off peak hours. lyanne melendez is live with a closer look at the plan from treasure island. >> reporter: it could be a lot of money.

let's say you go from treasure island to san francisco, san francisco back to treasure isla island. it all adds up. maybe you want to add the bay bridge toll. all of these fares, these rates still have to be approved by the san francisco board of supervisors. they vote on november 27th. right now on treasure island, if you can dream it, they can probably build it. >> there are less than 2,000 people living on treasure island now. what's contemplated is about 25,000 people by 2035. >> more people will mean more traffic congestion. part of the solution is to keep some people away by adding a toll in both directions. $3.50 during peak hours on weekdays and $2 during off-peak hours. on weekends, the toll will be $1 during peak hours and free any other time. >> it is ridiculous. every time we turn around, they're getting us for another toll. morme money. >> reporter: there will be no

more. >> if you go to a full-service restaurant, dining in, they can no longer automatically give you a plastic straw. a customer has to ask for it. if the restaurant violates the new law, they get two free warnings. after that, a $25 per day fine. topping off at a maximum of $300 per year. the rule only applies to full-service restaurants. it doesn't apply to fast food restaurants or take-out orders. critics argue it won't help the environment and only hurt people with disabilities. but supporters call it a small first step. many california cities actually already have stricter plastic straw bans. santa cruz has had one since 2017 and recently, san francisco passed a ban that takes effect in 2020. it will become the largest city to block all establishments f giving outla st eading thheir own. starbucks will eliminate plastic straws by 2020. it's> it's interesting how quicy

placard but was told the system was town. >> still doing the things we were doing ten years ago and still working in an archaic system that can't keep up with the population of drivers. >> as lines continue to grow throughout the morning, dmv officials scrambled to fix a router issue that stalled transactions from being processed. these computers couldn't connect to the server, meaning customers hoping to get something as simple as a driver's license or renewal, couldn't fill out the application on site until the system was back up and running. the dmv said it happened overnight. this man had no choice but to wait it out. >> the earliest appointment was in december. i can't wait until then for a replacement i.d. >> they've been criticized for skyrocketing wait times. as for the decades old computer system in place, the agency hopes to modernize it within the

center for rite aid. authorities say 26-year-old woman who was a temporary employee there opened fire in the building this morning. three people died, threes hurt. police say the suspect died at the hospital from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. this was the third workplace shooting in just 24 hours. there were shootings yesterday in wisconsin and pennsylvania. concern is growing in north carolina over the environmental harm caused by hurricane florence. the flooding is preventing experts from collecting water samples for lab testing. aerial photographs showed widespread devastation to farms in eastern north carolina. state officials are concerned about the threat from animal waste from those farms. more than 3.5 million chickens and turkeys and 5500 hogs have been killed in the flooding. now, our parent company, disn disney, announced a $500,000 donation to the red cross hurricane florence relief drive today. this is incredible.

in san leandro are working with local police to make they stay safe. >> this is a national program, it's actually international that we've adopted to offer to our businesses to attempt to get them to conduct business in a safer manner. >> so far, 13 business owners have undergone the free training that comes with the crime-free business program. it includes two hours of classroom instruction and on site visits by officers who offer safety recommendations. >> keep window coverings to a minimum. so that there's clear visible and inside and outside of the business. make sure there's no hiding spots so no one can hide out. >> had a lot of window coverings and stickers that were blocking a lot of the view and the light. >> the village bottle shop used to have more signage and stickers on the windows. not anymore. >> when i went to the program, i learned a lot of things, how to hand the cash and how to -- how much money in the cash register. >> the owner of the haven day
