we have your back.itas econoes l women's advocacy organization. >> the first to learn of the accusations was congresswoman anna eshoo. she sat down with reporter david louie today. >> joining us live from palo alto. >> david? >> larry and kristen, the date was july 20th, a friday. congresswoman recalls when blasea ford arrived with no notes or anything. only recollections which are now leading to a possible hearing next week in the senate. he said/she said hearing. >> there were many things that she recalled very clearly. there were other things that she wasn't sure of. >> it was an hour and a half meeting at this conference table at congresswoman's district office. they had never met before. details came out about something that happen between blasey ford

they're in hiding. the close friends and family members seem to indicate that they are in secret contact with them and that they believe, yes, they are aware of all the support they're getting. >> david, thank you. reporting live in palo alto. >> her family wrote a letter in her support today. the letter reads in part, chris i is not someone who chooses to be in the spotlight. we ask that her recollection be treated seriously and respectfully. if you want to read the entire letter, it's posted on our website, abc7news.com. in other news, the san francisco city attorney says an engineering firm gained the city's permit system andening -- three homes are in question. including one on the 400 block of roosevelt way in ashbury heights. that's where abc 7 news reporter melanie woodrow joins us live. melanie? >> kristen, we're talking about alleged forged documents and permit fraud. the motive was to gain a

competitive advantage. these three san francisco property at 147 marietta drive, 457 roosevelt -- they have one thing in common. according to a lawsuit filed by san francisco city attorney dennis herrera. >> you had a web of permit fraud and deception. at the center of that web is one company. >> that company is engineering firm santos and a route i can't associates. the allegation that they obtained permits for bathroom and kitchen remodels and they were excavated to add new floors and spaces below the existing structure. the spokesperson for the city attorney's office roderick owe santos a former president of the -- used his expertise and understanding to gain the system by saving on costs and increase speed. >> the fraud was perpetrated to get a competitive advantage. >> santos says he's being falsely accused and his job was to provide structural drawings for the projects.

>> we don't hire contractors. we don't manage projects. >> the contractor for 601afeld street agreed to an interview. he's also named in the lawsuit. >> as fast as possible. >> are you saying you started excavating before you had an excavation permit? >> that is correct. that is correct. >> that's illegal. >> i know. sometimes we go through a red light. that's illegal, too. you deal with it. >> dig first and ask for permission later doesn't cut it in san francisco. >> the city attorney's office says the excavations put people in adjacent homes at marietta drive and roosevelt street in danger. >> if there was any damage caused by an excavation, we will make sure that they are made whole. >> neighbors at those add jace en homes weren't around today or didn't want to speak on camera. the penalties that the city is seeking across those three properties could total in the millions. live in san francisco, melanie

woodrow, abc 7 news. let's turn to the weather now. red flag warning just expired. winds and dry conditions in sonoma county had residents there on edge. abc 7 news reporter wayne freedman live in unincorporated santa rosa with more on the story. wayne? >> reporter: good afternoon, larry. it's still warm and dry here. behind me, the red flag is still on the pole. red flag warnings originate from the national weather service. here in sonoma county, they lost 6,000 homes last year, people take them seriously. up it goes. a red flag warning. not on radio, television or internet, but on a pole. symbolic? perhaps. but we know the meaning. >> winds in the upper terrain, we've got low humidities, temperatures on the increase. >> a sonoma county red flag warning actually looks like this. bright sun, dry brush, a building breeze and blackened stumps that serve as bleak

the facility known for caring for abused chickens and other animals has shut its doors and now looking for a new location in the bay area. there's only one problem. money. abc 7 news anchor eric thomas reports from vacaville. >> the only sound here is silence. the only occupants, the ground squirrels who have taken over the suddenly empty acreage. >> i've only ever seen this place just full of life. so it's -- yeah.

it's sad. >> the original rescue ranch run by the animal place organization covered 60 acres nestled into cattle ranches in rural vacaville inaccessible to the public. in the past, thousands of chickens rescued from inhumane conditions on egg farms across the state would be brought here. thousands at a time. >> you open these crates and they just come flooding out and immediately start bathing and spreading their wings and just being chickens. >> unfortunately, their success was their downfall. zoning regulations forbid more than 100 animals at a time out here. the remaining animals were sent to a larger location near grass valley. but they still want a second facility to carry out their mission. >> socialize them, rehabilitate them and adopt them to loving homes. >> they're looking for a new location closer to the bay area. one is close to petaluma allowing them to care for more

animals and allow them to have visitors. >> we depend on the public support. we need the support of our community more than ever. >> in vacaville, eric thomas, abc 7 news. diners at california restaurants will soon have to ask for a straw if they want one. that will be the law. governor brown signed the law banning restaurants, not fast food joints from handing out plastic straws. california is the first state with a ban. the goal is to cut down on ocean pollution. san francisco has passed a similar ban. abc 7 news was at the 16th street mission b.a.r.t. station today. a project designed to keep the station cleaner is now complete. the floor was resurfaced with a material that repelled liquids rather than absorbs them and makes it easier to clean up. for almost a year that knnotoris
