>> reporter: they're negotiating with christine blasey ford's lawyers about when and how she'll testify. meanwhile president trump weighed in on his supreme court pick at a campaign rally overnight, still standing by his nominee. at a rally in las vegas, campaigning for senator dean heller president trump sending strong support out to judge brett kavanaugh. >> brett kavanaugh is one of the finest human beings you will ever have the privilege of knowing or meeting. >> reporter: though the nominee is being called to testify in front of the senate again to answer sexual assault accusations. >> so we'll let it play out and i think everything is going to be just fine. >> reporter: but on fox news, questioning the allegations. >> why didn't somebody call the fbi 36 years ago? >> reporter: dr. christine blasey ford accuses kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her when they were in high school in the 1980s. a charge he denies. her lawyers currently negotiating when she would appear before the senate judiciary committee saying she's prepared to testify next week

but also saying that monday is not possible. according to a source familiar with the negotiations, her lawyers and judiciary committee chairman chuck grassley's office now reportedly discussing thursday for her to testify. sources also telling abc news that ford does not want kavanaugh in the room when she testifies and she wants him to testify first. blasey ford originally asked for an fbi investigation and they say that's still her strong preference but is no longer insisting on it. professor ford's sister-in-law talks about why the woman she calls chrissy wants to tell her story. >> she feels that her story has been leaked out with some inaccuracies and i think she doesn't want her story misrepresented in the way that it was leaked but i think she also feels strongly that the story needs to be heard by the american public, that they need to know what this man did in his youth so that he's held

responsible. >> reporter: democrats are accusing republicans of strong-arming kavanaugh's accuser as to when she can testify, but senate judiciary chairman grassley has said he's offered several options. >> we offered one more. >> right. >> closed session or two ways of doing it by transcript. >> reporter: kavanaugh continues to categorically deny the accusations against him. he says he looks forward to testifying before the committee and continues to want a hearing as soon as possible so he can clear his name. kendis, janai. >> lynda, thank you. to a major development in the russia investigation. sources say president trump's former attorney, michael cohen, has sat down for hours of interviews with special counsel robert mueller's team. cohen's attorney has confirmed that cohen provided, quoting here, critical information to mueller. abc's pierre thomas reports on the questions cohen was asked. >> reporter: the focus of the meetings all aspects of trump's dealings with russia including

business deals and also about allegations of collusion during the 2016 campaign. given cohen's longtime working with trump and his family business some insiders believe he potentially represents a significant legal threat. >> there's more. he tells us mueller's team also wanted to know if president trump or any of his associates offered a pardon suggesting that mueller is looking for any evidence of obstruction of justice. another deadly workplace shooting in america has sent people running for their lives. police say a worker at this rite aid facility in northern maryland shot and killed three of her co-workers before turing the gun on herself. the motive remains unclear. witnesses say the shooter had been arguing with someone before pulling the gun. former congresswoman gabby giffords issued a statement saying you have a right to feel safe and i'm horrified that's no longer the reality in america. this level of gun violence not normal. new details about the man accused of trying to steal an american airlines plane in orlando. the student pilot jumped over an

airport fence and made it all the way inside the plane raising new questions this morning about security. authorities say 22-year-old nishal sankat who had a commercial pilot's license boarded this american airlines jet in the middle of the night. at the time the empty plane was undergoing maintenance. airport officials say two technicians tackled him and tried to hold him down but he took off running on the tarmac before he was finally taken into custody. >> to my knowledge there are no links of any sort at this time or any connection to terrorism. we have not found any evidence that would load us to any type of link of that nature. >> after checking for explosives and finding none police told towed the suspect's car away. he left it running outside the terminal. >> we've conducted a search of his residence, also of his vehicle that was here. he was not armed at the time. he did not have a lot of personal belongings with him. as a result of the search of his vehicle and home, there were no

explosive devices, there were no weapons that were confiscated and at this point, you know, we continue to look into his motive as well. >> sankat was in the u.s. with a canadian passport originally from trinidad and tobago with no criminal record. they say their security procedures worked because that plane was never left unattended. sections of two major interstates in north and south carolina will be closed until next week because of the flooding from hurricane florence. the small town of nichols, south carolina, under six feet of water. hundreds of roads remain closed. some before and after images show the extent of that flooding. you see there the death toll now 41. officials are warning drivers to stay off the roads in eastern carolinas because of the danger. time now for a look at your weather for this friday. severe storms have been rolling through the plains and midwest overnight especially near the

we're back with an incredible corn maze honoring a local hero. the image of thomas stafford was made because he just celebrated his 88th birthday. the picture was taken by a satellite 400 miles up. >> very impressive. well, it is taking longer for americans to drive to work every day. new figures show the average commute is now just shy of 27 minutes and has been rising steadily in recent years. experts say the booming job market is one reason why. also the increasing number of ubers clogging the streets and the spike in online shopping which means more delivery trucks on the road. well, american is joining delta and other major airlines raising fees for checked bags by another $5. many passengers are complaining about being nickel and dimed so congress is considering a bill change tickets. american airlines' ceo says if congress imposes a limit they may eliminate the option of

changing nonrefundable tickets altogether. ticketmaster says allegations it is running a ticket scalping operation are untrue. journalists in canada reported they were colluding with scalpers to collect extra fees and drive up ticket prices. ticketmaster says the conduct described in the report is a clear violation of its terms of services and it's conducting an internal review. a fight worthy of a mike tyson match broke out at a sushi restaurant in houston. three women throwing punches pulling hair for nearly a minute. it finally ended in one woman's driveway where it took four officers to drag her out of her car and carry her away kicking and screaming. no word on what started that fight. california is cracking down on drinking straws banning restaurants from automatically serving them. anyone who wants one will have to ask. restaurants that don't comply will get two warnings then a fine. >> okay, so this is the first weekend of fall. like it or not, time to plan

he was dangling for more than 30 minutes unl arrived. so scary. >> glad to know he's okay. we turn to the emotional vigil in overnight honoring the woman killed while jogging in that popular neighborhood. >> f of wendy martinez remembered her as a smart, happy person who just got engaged. meanwhile we're learning new details about the man now charged with her murder. overnight, several hundred people gathered near the location where 35-year-old tech executive wendy martinez was killed. less than a mile from the white house. her mother delivering a message of forgiveness. >> my heart has been broken in a thousand pieces. i forgive and i let god do what he has to do. >> reporter: surveillance video shows martinez jogs tuesday night. moments later she was brutally stabbed seven times before stumbling into this restaurant

desperately seeking help. she later died at the hospital. police say this is the man responsible, 23-year-old anthony crawford. >> we do not have any information to suggest that wendy knew or had any association with the suspect in this case. >> reporter: police have yet to determine a motive. they say crawford tested positive for cocaine. court records say he has a history of mental illness and a past psychiatric evaluation found. seriously self-destructive behavior creating an imminent danger. crawford's attorney calling his client's arrest a rush to judgment by police. with the popular community of logan circle in shock, the man martinez was planning to marry has this message of resilience. >> we are all here together as a community, as a family, as a city and this type of incident shouldn't prevent us from continue being who we are. >> her mother said wendy just
