committee chair chuck grassley of iowa set a 2:30 deadline on saturday for dr. christine ford to commit to testify about her allegations. that judge brett kavanaugh sexually assaulted her in 1982 at a house party. allegations that he categorically denies. the latest in a series of deadlines, or else grassley says, the committee would proceed to a vote. at 2:17 an e-mail arrived from her lawyers, quote, dr. ford accepts the committee's request to provide her firsthand knowledge of brett kavanaugh's sexual misconduct next week. ford's attorney complained about the leaks and the bullying that tainted the process and made it clear negotiations are not finished yet. speaking to conservative activists at the values voters summit, vice president mike pence expressed confidence

and ask male allies to step up and have the courage to get behind the 1600 courageous women, to get behind anita hill and now dr. ford. >> in 1991, 1600 african american women signed "the new york times" ad in support of hill. so harris wants 1600 men to sign the ad weese planning. at last check, she's raised. yesterday, i sat down with christine pelosi. she's nancy pelosi's daughter and democratic political strategy. she's a former san francisco district attorney in the sexual abu abuse unit and worked in washington. she told me judge kavanaugh's process has been rushed. especially now that the assault allegations have the potential to derail the nomination. >> in a year of me too america, me too politics, me too sports, me too media, me too law, we're finding out that the supreme court justice nominee has a me

too problem. he is being accused of attempted rape. there is no statute of limitations on that charge. >> all right. so you might remember this magazine cover about nine months ago. time published their person of the year issue with a group of women dubbed the silence breakers who all in their own ways launched the me too movement. front and center is a woman who lives here in san francisco. she was sexually harassed at a work event and after that wrote a letter about it, assault in politics signed by 140 women. founder of the nonprofit, she's here joining us in studio. thank you for being here on this sunday morning. eye dam a, i wanted to ask you, when the conversation about dr. ford and judge kavanaugh sort of a he said/she said at this point, what do you make of that? >> it's interesting. we have another woman who has come forward about ear yus

allegations, but it's something we've seen with anita hill and clarence thomas. it's like we're having these conversations but almost like we're having them again. >> the controversy surrounding the allegations, how do you think if at all it's affecting the me too movement which you've been a big part of? >> i think that women are watching this really closely. we hope that the me too movement has made strides and in some ways it is. we think they're being believed. it's like a time warp. we're waiting to see if we learned anything in 27 years since the last hearing it happened at. >> president trump recently tweeted that he would like to see some sort of police reports from blasey ford. isn't this sort of at the heart of what women and survivors of sexual abuse have been trying to explain and get across? >> it really is. the onus is always on the victim

when they come forward. the pressure to prove, to say that -- show exactly what happened. this is exactly why women don't report. 2/3 are not reported. now you have the president of the united states using the twitter pulpit to tell a woman what she should have done at one of the worst moments in her life when she was 15 years old. it'sreprehensible. >> put yourself in a 15-year-old's shoe. do you want your parents to know you were at a party. you might be embarrass add the school and in front of your friends. there's so many reasons why women don't come forward. it doesn't make them less believable. >> it shouldn't. >> one last question. at what point can we or do we forgive someone? judge kavanaugh has strongly denied the allegations. he's not under investigation by any sort of law enforcement, including the fbi, that we know of. so innocent until proven guilty,

here is a live look at sutro tower. a beautiful shot. it's actually clearer today than yesterday. you can see there are clearly still pockets of clouds throughout the bay area. it looks just lovely surrounding sutro tower. lisa is going to have more of that in a few minutes. first, we want to talk about some new developing news overnight. oakland police actually towed 85 cars after a sideshow. the department shared these photos on twitter of the cars at 42nd avenue and interstate 880. officers dealt with the sideshow activity at different locations throughout east oakland. it happened about 1:30 this morning. police say that the people were throwing rocks and bottles at officers and the crowd was firing off gunshots. two people were arrested and unfortunately, two officers were injured. so we'll be following up on that throughout the day. new this morning, investigators say embers from a fireplace sparked a big house fire in walnut creek.cale glenn

last night. contra costa fire officials say it landed on the wood shingle roof and that caused the fire to spread to the attic. they were able to get it under control in an hour and a half and fortunately, nobody was hurt. fema will provide $4 million to rebuild a fire station that burned down in last october's fire in the north bay. according to the press democrat, the funding and an insurance payment of $5 million will ensure they can replace the fountain grove office. original originally, they committed $1 million in funding. they lobbied d.c. lawmakers for that money. there was major recognition for young sailors who rescued a stranded kayaker in the water off richmond. the commander of the coast guard sector san francisco presented members of the sea scout program with awards yesterday. back in july, the kids were on their summer cruise when they

heard a broadcast about a missing kayaker. the lookouts spotted the kayaker in the water near the richmond-san rafael bridge. >> it was surreal. it was really late at night. saw him below bow. we dropped the sail, got him on board. >> the coast guard commander says the scouts saved the man's life. he had been drifting in the 60-degree water for almost six hours. a santa rosa family says they're relieved after a judge ruled a 5-year-old girl will be allowed to take her cannabis-based medication at school for treatment of a rare form of epilepsy. she can continue to go to public cool and it overrules the school -- public school and it overrules the -- it ban -- her mother says the medicine is effective and a nurse administers it to her by mouth. >> within three to four minutes it stops.

before we would have been calling 911 for a prolonged seizure, 15 minutes, an hour, longer. so this way they can go on with their school day. >> the school district is now actually saying that they're pleased with the decision. says it provides them with some sort of guidance on the issue of cannabis-based medicine on campus. a new warning for parents. the amount of kids and teens vaping in marin county has more than doubled in the past two years. county health officials are addressing a new state survey. it tracks vaping among 7th, 9th and 11th grader. the largest increase wasth graders from 10% to 25%. officials say the numbers reflect a national trend. the board of supervisors is considering following other counties and banning the sale of vaping products. howdy everyone. sunday morning waking up to some fog. also sunshine and certainly cool temperatures. we had low 40s earlier in the

the national weather service highlighted the areas where we look for the offshore wind to create problems. we have the dry brush and a few fires. hopefully not. they could spread quickly because of the wind. if you're planning time in the north bay, notice how nice it will be. in the 50s and 60s in spots. by 2:00, upper 70s to near 80. average highs, 3 to 4 degrees warmer than that. the coast, it's going to be cool. near 60 ocean beach. breezy and only 70 in santa cruz. we talked about the wind. look at the colors offshore. this is later on today. notice it's windy right at the shoreline. around the bay, pleasant. this is tonight. but then the wind direction shifts to an offshore component. the down sloping winds, they bring warmth from the upper elevations and also the wind blowing from the land to the sea. so we cut off our marine influence. that means dry conditions, low relative humidity and, of course, vigilance watching for

fires. as we look at the temperatures on monday, look at the reds coming into play. 80s around the bay. tuesday it's warmer. even the coast warms up. by wednesday, no relief. it's going to be a bit prolonged. usually we get a couple of days, maybe three days of warmth. but then not only will it cool off, wait until i show you this next graphic. 77 in fremont today. 78 in san jose. it's going to cool, confirmation of that cooldown comes on thursday as the wind shifts and then perhaps we could see a little moisture. this is early saturday morning. we've got rain off the coast. it looks like it will push north of us. at least bringing us mist and drizzle. maybe a couple hundredths. we'll keep you posted. the forecast featuring the nice day today, windy at the coast. download the accuweather app and keep track of the temperatures andwinds as they go up a little bit each day. by the middle of the week, it's hot again. sort of typical for september. >>right. we've got to get through tuesday, wednesday in terms of fire danger and then hopefully,

hole, a line. a utility company on the way to fix a problem. there is no estimated time when those residents can return home. >> new unfortunate developments about the freeway shooting that we've been reporting on. it injured a man and service dog. unfortunately, we just found out that the service dog layla died overnight. her breathing got more and more labored and things moved too fast. he says that she did die peacefully. the shooting happened in oakland on friday night on interstate 980 near 580, multiple bullets hit the car shattering the window and hitting layla and the driver. the driver has been released from the hospital. at this point, no suspects have been arrested. bill cosby heads back to cot s of his sentencing hearing. the comedian once known as america's dad will learn his fate after being convicted of sexual assault. abc news reporter, erielle reshef is on the story. >> he's the first to be

through congress. this week lawmakers will take up a bill about airplane seat sizes. it would require the faa to set new minimum requirements for airlines. the goal is to improve passenger health and well-being by providing much needed leg room. the house will discuss banning airlines from bumping passengers who have already boarded a plane. san francisco police have a new state of the art training simulator. it's integrating into use of force classes. it's so realistic that recruits say it's almost like being out on the streets. vic lee got a firsthand hands-on look at how it all works. >> reporter: active shooters in a courthouse. several people shot, including a sheriff's deputy. a gunman uses a hostage as a shield. it's one of 200 role play scenarios san francisco police are using in their new virtual training simulator. scenarios that require split-second decisions. >> we just really deter from

would take the chickens. >> the animal place's jessica miller took us on a tour of what used to be their 60-acre rescue ranch in rural vacaville, empty now except for a few ground squirrels. >> i've only ever seen this place full of life. so it's -- yeah, it's sad. >> in the past, thousands of chickens rescued from inhumane conditions on egg farms across the state would be brought here. >> we open these crates and they come flooding out and immediately start duck bathing and spreading their wings and just being chickens. >> unfortunately, their success at caring for upwards of 2,000 chickens at a time ran into zoning regulation that is forbid that many animals on the property at one time. they put the rescue ranch up for sale and removed the remaining animals to a larger 600-acre site near grass valley shown in
