good morning. good morning. i'm stephanie ramos in for diane macedo. >> and i'm kendis gibson. here are some of the top headlines we're following this monday morning on "world news now." new allegation. another woman accusing supreme court nominee brett kavanaugh of sexual misconduct. this time it's a former yale classmate, describing in graphic detail what kavanaugh allegedly did at an alcohol-fueled campus party. deputy attorney general rod rosenstein is hanging on to his job for now after denying a report that he suggested wearing a wire to secretly record president trump. sources say the president's aides convinced him to hold off on firing rosenstein. president trump is here in new york city for the annual united nations general assembly.

he's expected to sign a new u.s. trade deal with south korea's president today. trump's main address to the meeting is tomorrow and he will chair the u.n. security council on wednesday for the first time. traffic should be really great in new york this week. and tiger woods has received congratulations from celebrities and golf legends after winning the pga's tour championship. the two-stroke victory was his first win since august of 2013. >> wow. >> and it was the first time his young children have seen woods win a tournament. those are some of our top stories on this monday, september 24th. from abc news, this is "world news now." it's great. tiger woods wins a tournament finally and now the season's practically over. >> yeah. >> that's pretty much it. they do have the ryder cup that starts later this week, so -- >> but he's back. >> he is back. >> back with a victory. we're happy to see him back. we're going to begin this half hour, though, with bill cosby. today is a day many thought

wouldn't happen. >> the 81-year-old entertainer will be back at a courthouse just outside philadelphia as his two-day sentencing hearing gets under way. it could lead to cosby going to prison for molesting a woman 14 years ago. abc's linsey davis has covered cosby's story from the very start. >> reporter: the man once dubbed as america's dad is one step closer to becoming the first celebrity sentenced in the me too era. >> guilty, guilty, guilty. >> reporter: on monday, bill cosby will be back in a pennsylvania courtroom for the first day of his sentencing hearing. cosby was convicted in april for three felony accounts of drugging and sexually assaulting andrea constand in his home in 2004. cosby has insisted any sexual encounters with constand and other accusers were consensual. one of the 12 jurors who convicted him said there was one piece of evidence that led to his stunning fall from grace.

>> it was his deposition. cosby admitted giving quaaludes to women. >> reporter: cosby and constand may come face-to-face again as she takes the stand to deliver her victim impact statement. >> it's not unthinkable that the judge could sentence him to jail time and order he be turned over immediately to correctional officers at that hearing. reporter: now his defense team will be desperately fighting to stop the court from designating the comedian a sexually violent predator. linsey davis, abc news, philadelphia. we turn now to the breaking news on the supreme court nominee, brett kavanaugh. he's facing new allegations of sexual misconduct just days before his first accuser is set to testify. >> a woman who went to yale with kavanaugh says he exposed himself to her at a dorm room party while playing a drinking game. democrats say they want to postpone the nomination and launch an fbi investigation. brad mielke has those details.

>> the hearing with christine blasey ford had just been set for 10:00 a.m. this thursday when all of a sudden these new allegations came out, this time from brett kavanaugh's college years. deborah ramirez was a classmate of brett kavanaugh's at yale. according to "the new yorker," she says she remembers a drunken party where kavanaugh invaded her personal space and exposed himself. trish turner walked me through these allegations. >> she describes a drunken dorm party one night. ramirez is part of a group that seems to be playing some kind of sexually charged drinking game. she's drinking quite heavily. she's losing in the game so she's having to drink more. suddenly she alleges that brett kavanaugh is thrusting his crotch in her face, his exposed crotch in her face. she says she pushes him away, inadvertently touches his exposed genitals. she says she's a devout catholic. this is really traumatizing for her. >> there is a lot of pushback to this. brett kavanaugh has denied it. "the new yorker" actually reached out to a couple of

students who ramirez recollected were in the room. they denied this ever happened. other students vouched for ramirez. she admits her memory was spotty that night because of drinking but clearly remembers kavanaugh. we will have more on "start here" later this morning. kendis? stephanie? >> i feel like i needed a tv m.a. rating before that. those were some details. >> yeah, it's tough. >> overnight, attorney michael avenatti says he's representing a different woman with credible information about kavanaugh as well. the republican chair of the senate judiciary committee says that they will attempt to evaluate these new claims. a new round of trump administration tariffs on chinese goods went into effect overnight. the 10% tax is on $200 billion worth of imports from china impact everything from food to

furniture. it says they could weaken the u.s. economy. georgetown, south carolina, is the next town that is bracing for massive flooding. >> last week's hurricane rainfall in north carolina is pushing south carolina rivers beyond capacity. the waccamaw has already flooded the city of convey and residents 40 miles down river in georgetown county have been told to evacuate. an evacuation has been ordered in a suburb north of los angeles where a wildfire is raging on. charlie fire has destroyed more than 3,000 acres and only 10% contained. >> accuweather's paul williams is here with the forecast. good morning, paul. >> good morning, stephanie, kendis. well, we have elevated fire dunlg r danger once again. low relative humidity and dry vegetation feeding the frenzy of these fires.

victim was underage. >> reporter: wilson sparked controversy in 2013 when he uploaded blueprints online for 3-d printed guns. critics concern that the unregulated, untraceable guns made at home by plastic could fall into the hands of criminals. >> they are untraceable. there is no registry of who bought them. >> reporter: a judge temporarily barred wilson from sharing the blueprints online. the so-called cryptoanarchist said he would sell and mail the plans directly to customers. >> i'm giving people a means to create a power for themselves. >> reporter: wilson is being held on $150,000 bail on that sexual assault charge. he has not yet entered a plea and could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted. marci gonzalez, abc news, los angeles. now to a bizarre standoff at a zoo in denmark. a family of elephants showing an unwelcome guest the door. >> yeah, so the man was confronted by the elephants after climbing into their

a look at capitol hill there. as the senate gears up for what's expected to be contentious testimony by the accuser brett kavanaugh, we're looking back at the last time all of this happened over a nominee. >> this morning we're opening up the abc news vault to october 11th, 1991 and the anita hill hearings. >> two remarkably composed witnesses giving diametrically opposed versions of their

relationship ten years ago. professor hill said she was embarrassed by remarks made by her boss clarence thomas. why did she not come forward before? she said, because i did not want to let the behavior control my choices. judge thomas denying anything out of line. he denounced the whole process and said no job is worth what i've been through. we begin a long report with abc's jim wooten. >> reporter: through hallways reverberating with the cheers and chants of his supporters, judge thomas headed into the hearing to present himself to the committee and the country as a victim who would be a victim no more. >> i have never in all of my life felt such hurt, such pain, such agony. >> reporter: his indignation was riveting, eloquent. >> from the very beginning, charges were leveled against me

from the shadows, charges of drug abuse, anti-semitism, wife beating, drug use by family members, that i was a quota appointment, confirmation conversion and much, much more. and now this. this is not american. this is kafkaesque. it has got to stop. it must stop for the benefit of future nominees and our country. enough is enough. >> reporter: then when democratic chairman biden began questioning thomas, he announced that professor hill's original affidavit to the committee, her sworn statement of charges against the judge, would not be used by him or anyone else at her request. republican hatch strenuously objected. >> and he has a right to face the accuser and everything that accuser says, and if he doesn't, then i'm going to resign from this committee today. >> reporter: ironically, that

set the stage for an immediate rebuttal of the judge's impassioned denials. biden dismissed thomas and called for mrs. hill. her testimony was not usually the sort heard in the halls of the senate. judge thomas she said repeatedly asked her out despite her consistent refusals and turned their business conversations into vivid discussions of sexual matters. >> on several occasions, thomas told me graphically of his own sexual prowess. because i was extremely uncomfortable talking about sex with him at all, and particularly in such a graphic way, i told him that i did not want to talk about these subjects. >> reporter: she recalled an episode involving a soft drink in his office at the equal employment opportunity commission. >> he got up from the table at which we were working, went over to his desk to get the coke,

looked at the can and asked, who has put pubic hair on my coke? >> reporter: and she said on other occasions -- >> he referred to the size of his own penis as being larger than normal and he also spoke on some occasions on the pleasures he had given to women with oral sex. >> how could you allow this kind of reprehensible conduct to go on right in the headquarters without doing something about it? >> i may have shirked a duty, a responsibility that i had. >> do you think that he -- he got some pleasure out of seeing you ill at ease and vulnerable? >> i think so, yes. he wanted to see me vulnerable and that if i were vulnerable then he could extract from me whatever he wanted, whether it was sexual or otherwise. that i would be at his -- under his control.

deborah ramirez, told "the new yorker" that kavanaugh exposed himself at a dorm room party and thrust his penis in her face when they were freshmen in the '80s. some of their classmates say they remember hearing about the alleged incident days later but kavanaugh and several others who were said to be in the room have denied the account. >> then the attorney michael avenatti says he represents another woman claiming to have credible information regarding kavanaugh. these latest claims surfaced within hours of kavanaugh's first accuser, professor christine blasey ford, agreeing on the terms of her capitol hill testimony. here is david wright. >> reporter: the senate judiciary committee's me too moment is now scheduled for thursday at 10:00 a.m. dr. christine blasey ford set to testify first in open session. speaking publicly for the first time about her bombshell accusation that kavanaugh sexually assaulted her at a high school party back in 1982. allegations kavanaugh categorically denies. ford is believed to have named at least three others who she says were at the party.

two had already denied any memory of the incident. this weekend, the third, leland keyser told the committee she does not know kavanaugh and has no recollection of being at a party, but keyser also told "the washington post" she believes ford. >> what am i supposed to do, go and ruin this guy's life based on an accusation, i don't know when it happened, i don't know where it happened. everybody named said it didn't happen. i'm just being honest. >> reporter: ford's lawyers say they believe republican senators who have been dismissive of her story should shoulder the responsibility to ask her question, not rely on an outside down is sell. but the committee member, all of them male, are clearly uncomfortable with that.

some of them have been there long enough to remember anita hill's accusations of sexual harassment against judge clarence thomas. >> senator, i think this whole affair is sick. >> i think it's sick, too. >> reporter: in a radio interview with abc affiliate wtam, the president insisted he's keeping an open mind. >> i want her to have her voice. let her have her voice. let her say whatever she has to say. let him say what he has to say. and at the end the senators will make a choice. >> reporter: at this point, the senate judiciary committee has pushed back the vote that they had threatened to hold if the two sides were unable to come to terms. presumably that will take place after the committee has heard from both sides, but this hearing is shaping up to be the biggest blockbuster on capitol hill in a generation. the senators are concerned not just about the vote on this confirmation but also the vote in the midterms, november 6th. david wright, abc news, new york.

>> as for those new accusations, kavanaugh's ex-classmate says she was reluctant to come forward because there were gaps in her memory and she was inebriated at the time. democratic senator dianne feinstein is calling on republicans to postpone kavanaugh's nomination and launch an fbi investigation. republican chair chuck grassley said they just learned of the accusation but are attempting to evaluate the claims. as for kavanaugh, he is in new york city for a big speech at the united nations. it appears he's holding off on firing the deputy attorney general rod rosenstein, at least for now. sources tell abc news the president grew irate over "the new york times" story suggesting that rosenstein has suggested wearing a wire and trying to remove him from office. bill cosby's two-day sentencing hearing gets under way today in a courtroom outside philadelphia.

the 81-year-old entertainer was found guilty in april of druggging and molesting andrea constand in his home in 2004. cosby could be sentenced anything from probation to 30 years in prison. prosecutors and cosby's defense team are also expected to argue over whether cosby should be deemed a sexually violent predator. that designation could then be used in defamation lawsuits by cosby's accusers. florence continues to take its toll on the carolinas. another 8,000 houses in georgetown county, south carolina, have been ordered to evacuate. evacuations ordered in southern california because of a rapidly spreading wildfire. here is rob marciano with more. >> reporter: flames darting through the smokey skies over california. the charlie fire raging out of control north of los angeles, devouring 3,000 acres in a matter of hours and still growing.

the fire sparked just 24 hours ago. it's a race against the clock. firefighters dousing the flames from above and cutting fire lines. >> the firefighters on scene, they made an aggressive attack and they're doing pretty well. >> reporter: aerials revealing the sheer veracity of the blaze as it engulfs the hillside. residents told to get out as the flames close in on homes. >> one flare over here and another place will flare up. >> reporter: in the east florence still being felt across the carolinas with water as far as the eye can see. drone footage showing the swollen waccamaw river drowning myrtle beach. the river at record levels and still rising for at least another two days. in kentucky, torrential rains triggering flash flooding, what looks like river rapids rushing through this neighborhood. >> it's been a very, very rough start to fall, no doubt.

our thanks to rob. now let's get the latest forecast from accuweather's paul williams. paul? >> good morning, kendis, stephanie. fire danger back to being elevated again for us in nevada, utah, wyoming, going into idaho. gusty winds. low relative humidity and dry vegetation will contribute to that problem because this high pressure system is going to keep it cooler but still keeping it dry. too much wet stuff is the problem in the southeast, as well as a very humid pumping in of moisture coming out of the south. major flooding will continue in south carolina with water contamination, road closures and some record river crests. kendis? stephanie? >> thank you very much, paul. a massachusetts woman is being treated after being attacked by a shark in the bahamas. she was flown back to the united states just hours ago and is being treated by a trauma surgeon in florida. authorities say it was a severe bite to her left hand and the 32-year-old lost a lot of blood. no word yet on her condition. well, tiger woods says he couldn't believe he pulled off another tournament victory.

his walk to the 18th here reminiscent of moses leading his people out of egypt. fans just all around him parading behind him down the fairway. >> he did it! woods won the tournament by two strokes. it was his first victory since 2013. it was woods' 80th career win, which is just two off the record. >> 80's a big number, and i, you know, have been sitting on 79 for about five years now and i'm thinking 80 is a pretty damn good feeling. >> tiger sounded really pumped. >> yeah. he expected this. >> tiger flew to france overnight with his american ryder cup teammates. he said they would be celebrating his win during the flight. hopefully not too much. of course the ryder cup gets under way i believe friday. through the weekend. big tournament. >> it is huge. he took home $1.62 million for

we're back with a train derailment near alton, iowa. 38 cars derailed and 20 fell into the floyd river. no injuries were reported. the train was heading to nebraska from minnesota caring sand and soy bean oil. some of the sand spilled into the river. authorities say flooding may have contributed to that accident. officials say that it wasn't weather but stupidity that risked students' lives in northern indiana. >> it happened about 40 miles from chicago. a school bus driver allegedly gave some of her passengers the wrong kind of education. >> it's all good. it's all good. i'm letting her stop at michael's stop.

>> it's the alarming video that cost this bus driver her job. >> don't tell anybody about it. don't tell anybody about this. >> a child behind the wheel of a school bus. the other students on board capturing the wild ride. police say this 27-year-old woman allowed three students, ages 11, 13 and 17 to take turns driving her bus for short stretches in rural indiana on the way home from school. >> first what you've got to do is put your foot on the brake. >> reporter: authorities say a parent contacted the school resource officer, triggering an investigation. she was arrested when she showed up to the porter township school bus barn to pick up her check. police charging her with a felony, the neglect of a dependent. the school says in a statement, the porter township school corporation is angered and disappointed in the actions of this driver. the safety of our students is a top priority. the bus company adding, behavior like this is completely unacceptable and totally at odds with what we stand for as a
