>> the supreme court nominee denied blasey ford accusation he assaulted her. he also denied an accusation by a second one, deborah ramirez, who says he exposed himself to her in college. tonight we are hearing from kavanaugh and his wife in an interview in the story with martha mccollum on "fox news." >> we are talking about an allegation of sexual assault. i did not have sexual intercourse or anything close to sexual intercourse in high school or for many years thereafter, and the girls from the schools i went to and i were friends. >> you're saying through all of these years that are in question you were a virgin? >> that's correct. >> also coming out strongly, senate majority leader mitch mcconnell. listen to what he said on the senate floor today. >> this is what the so-called resistance has become, a smear campaign, pure and simple. aided and abetted by members of

the united states senate. i want to make it perfectly clear, mr. president, judge kavanaugh will be voted on here on the senate floor. >> just three days from now on thursday, september 27th, christine blasey ford is set to testify before the senate judiciary committee about her allegations against kavanaugh which date back decades. today we're getting a look at a letter she sent to senate judiciary chairman chuck grassley. she writes, quote, i will answer any questions you have. i have one motivation in coming forward, to tell the truth about what mr. kavanaugh and his friend mark judge did to me. ford added she is willing to meet one-on-one with senators to tell her story. grassley responded in a letter, describing himself as committed to fair and respectful treatment of you, as you've requested, and adding he looks forward to her testimony. concord congressman mark desonia joined us on "abc 7 news" at

court. >> reporter: in what has become a protracted confirmation, any connection with kavanaugh's past now plays strongly into his future, hence the continuing focus on accuser christine blasey ford whose husband russell told "the washington post" that she received moving to new zealand when she learned of kavanaugh's potential nomination. among other new details he revealed to "the post" they're living in a hotel, the children are staying with friends. they've looked into security escorts for those kids. they have received death threats. her e-mail has been hacked and they met with the fbi on friday. this morning we spoke with james roche, brett kavanaugh's freshman roommate at yale in the fall of 1983. as he told "the new yorker" and elaborated with abc 7 that he was a, quote, notably heavy drinker, even by the standards of the time, and that he became aggressive and belligerent when he was very droek. he spoke in support of debbie ramirez who has become a second

accuser. judge kavanaugh would have been 18 years old at the time. at his confirmation he has sworn under oath he never committed any verbal or physical harassment or assault of a sexual nature. when we spoke with roche he said, i believe her to be unusually honest and straightforward. i cannot imagine her making this up. he also said, based on my time with brett, i believe he and his social circle were capable of the actions that debbie described. james roche said today he has no political agenda. he came forward today for one reason only, to support debbie ramirez. he said he's trying to do the right thing. he said this is not his story. at uc berkley, waynerema"abc 7 law school professor who spearheaded the recall of judge aaron persky is launching a political action committee to target politicians who commit or ignore sexual

misconduct. michele dauber is calling her pack the enough is enough voter project and will aim to block lower level politicians from ascending to higher office. dauber led the campaign that ended with voters ousting judge persky over his sentencing of brock turner for six months in jail for sexual assault. we are getting word of a third woman accusing kavanaugh of sexual assault. attorney michael ah naughty who represents porn star stormed in her hush money case against president trump says he has a client who is accusing kavanaugh as well. ah naughty said she has had multiple security clearances from the u.s. government and witnesses will confirm her account. her name is expected to be released within the next two days. >> she is 100% credible, and when the american people hear from her they will determine as i have that she is to be believed. >> ah naughhe says she knew him

high school but she attended a different school. she said she will take a lie detector test if kavanaugh agrees to the same. you can get alerts sent right to your phone. just download the "abc 7 news" app. another big story out of washington, the future for deputy attorney general rod rosenstein is murky after sources tell abc news he headed to the white house today expecting to be fired. that didn't happen. rosenstein is still on the job but his fate hangs in the balance as the man in charge of special counsel mueller's investigation, rosenstein has continued drying the ire of president trump. sources tell abc news he offered to resign over the weekend but couldn't agree to terms with the white house. he is now set to meet with president trump on thursday. starting today, the trump administration is imposing new 10% tariffs on $200 billion worth of chinese products. it is hundreds of items, everything from baseball gloves to network routers and food seasonings. china is striking back with its own tariffs on $60 billion worth

of u.s. goods like auto parts and meat. overall, stocks dropped today because of the new tariffs. at the closing bell, the dow was down 181 points. the nasdaq saw a slight gain, and the s&p lost only 10. oakland-based pandora is being bought by sirius xm which the companies say will create the world's largest audio entertainment company. sirius stock plummeted more than 10%. lyanne melendez joins us live from oakland with a look at what it means for the east bay. >> reporter: you know, speaking of investments i can say that pandora certainly has invested a lot in oakland and in this area. now, one person said to me, you know, it is relationship between pandora and

local businesses here. we don't know what is going to happen but people are concerned. founded in 2000, pandora has been a key player in rehabilitation of oakland's up town area. >> of course, they haven't said they with leaving, but if that were to happen my commitment would be to work with others to make sure that we fill that amazing space. >> reporter: words that the online music streaming company was sold to sirius xm came as a surprise to many local businesses. >> we need pandora to get by each and every day, the fact they're being sold is crazy. >> reporter: sirius xm is a satellite radio company based in new york. pandora has more listeners, 70 million, but only 5.6 million pay for the commercial-free subscription. pandora has 26 locations with more than 2,000 employees. gary fasay is a public relations and media professional who has seen companies downsize following an acquisition. >> it is always the way it is. everybody hates it but it is duplicity. somebody is already doing that job and it is a very stressful

tied him to the crime. police say the nor cal rapist is expect of at least ten assaults starting in 1991. in victim in that case and another assault in chico were in court today. >> it was incredibly important for me to be here to stand up for those who couldn't be here. >> i was the only one who saw his face for a really long time, and that's another reason why i wanted to come. i had seen his face when i was in fear. this time i get to see his face when he's in fear. >> waller is due back in court at the end of october and is expected to enter a plea. new at 6:00, the search for this san francisco man who reportedly stabbed his girlfriend while she slept this morning. the victim is okay and was able to tell police what happened. the search is on though for 27-year-old justin moe. he's from san francisco, but the attack happened in the blackwood canyon area near lake tahoe. he reportedly fled into the woods wearing a blanket but no shoes. a battle is brewing in the east bay city of dublin over a

proposed ikea store. the city's planning commission will consider the project tomorrow night. on land already owned by ikea at the intersection of interstate 580 and hacienda drive. while some say they would welcome the popular store, opponents claim its popularity could cause big problems for their community. "abc 7 news" reporter laura anthony has the story. >> reporter: right now it is just 27 acres of dirt and grass right next to interstate 580 in dublin. but if ikea has its way, it would be the budget furniture chain's first new store in the bay area in 15 years. >> we've had over 800 e-mails come our way with suggestions on how to make the project better. we've spent quite a bit of time really getting to know the community. >> reporter: ikea spokesperson leticia bracy says the dublin store would be smaller than its predecessors in emeryville and east palo alto. >> 317,000 square feet, it would be the ikea store and 97,000 square feet of retail with about

six acres of open space. >> reporter: opponents say it is all too much for their town, especially a franchise that's known to draw customers from far and wide by the tens of thousands. >> that's a lot of traffic that right now we're not dealing with. >> reporter: a civil engineer and resident of dublin. >> according to the document, they will attract around 18,000 vehicles on weekends. with that overflow is going to clog dublin boulevard and 580, and then it will become a nightmare. >> reporter: ikea claims it will do whatever is needed to mitigate the impact of an estimated 1,000 additional cars per hour. some here wonder if an ikea right here is the right fit for their town. >> dublin is full of strip malls and restaurants, and a lot of fast food restaurants. that's not what we want to be known for. >> reporter: the planning commission is expected to vote or the ikea project tuesday night. it would then move on for consideration by the full city council here next month.
