future weather showing you rather chilly on the coast, in the 50s. warmer inland. it will be a wide range in temperatures. 60s and 70s around the bay shoreline. inland in the 80s later today. now a check of the roads with alexis. good morning. good morning, drew. here we go. second morning of the closure of the salesforce transit center. everybody is back at the old temporary trans bay transit center. fremont closure in effect, along with part of the fremont off-ramp from the bay bridge. there you go. you got that all straight? i'm still trying to get it straight in my mind too. we're looking at heavy traffic on the bay bridge. that's because we have the two left lanes blocked around harrison due to road work. it should be wrapping up any minute. take either ramp. once we make it to the surface streets, i'll zoom in on traffic maps, we are looking pretty good

today. keeping a close eye all morning. next traffic updates coming up in 10 minutes. as alexis said, a lot of uncertainty for the salesforce transit center. >> a second crack that be found. amy hollyfield joins with us a better timeline of when this could all be fixed. amy? >> reporter: it's going to be a while, jessica. the transit center and fremont street will be closed at least through next week with engineers saying they do not want to reopen the street until they know for sure the problem is fixed and the area is safe. that means traffic backups. it's not bad right now because it's early. take a look at what it did to this area yesterday. we had some major traffic jams coming through here, especially around fremont and howard area. that's where fremont street is closed. you are encouraged to avoid this area at least through next week. pay attention to abc 7 news for updates on that timeline.

bus riders are now using the temporary transit center. that's a block away. many of them have questions about how this could have happened. >> if it's $2.2 billion project, everything should have been together and it shouldn't have been open until it was altogether. i was kind of inconvenienced. now it's closed even though it was never fully opened yet. because they are still doing construction around it. >> reporter: now here's what caused all of this. here are pictures officials released. of the two and a half foot long crack discovered in a load bearing steel beam. they found that tuesday morning. when they were inspecting all the beams, they found a smaller crack in an adjacent beam. the engineering team says it could be fabrication, could be because of installation, or design. they do not think the cracks are related to the millennium tower, which is sinking. that's a question we heard a lot from commuters yesterday,

wondering what's going on in this area. engineers are saying this is an isolated situation. live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> amy, what is the solution? to remove the beams or to fix the cracks? >> rep the first plan is to shore up the beams, make them safe so they can at least get fremont street open. this is a major thoroughfare for people coming off the bay bridge. then they hope to mend the cracks and keep the beams where they are. matt? >> thank you, amy. >> commuters may have received the message about taking public transit. ridership saw a surge yesterday. san francisco bay ferry saw a 15% increase. bart says they saw 9,000 more riders yesterday compared to last wednesday. they were expecting an increase anyway because of the dreamforce convention. we have continuing coverage

online and we are keeping you updated with push alerts like this one questioning the timeline of the salesforce closure. you get the news that matters to you. in the south bay, chp says several people likely took video of a stabbing involving an uber driver. >> is investigators hope the witnesses will come forward. the stabbing happened on highway 87 at 8:45 yesterday morning. chp says the uber driver was involved in a road rage incident with a female driver. the woman did not stop. minutes later, a third driver motioned for the uber to pull overment the third driver then stabbed the uber driver. no word on the victim's condition. investigators are looking for an older model sedan that is gold-brown in color. the suspect has full sleeve tatoos. anyone with information is asked to call the chp. happening tonight, bart's board of directors will focus on rider safety at a special meeting in pittsburgh is and

will give the general public a chance to voice their opinion. it was announced last month following three homicides that happened in recent months, including the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old nia wilson at the macarthur station. the meeting starts at 5:00 p.m. in pittsburgh city chambers. two men were arrested on suspicion of stealing $15,000 of music equipment and two advance from a church. they pulled over 35-year-old andrew miller and 28-year-old austin hudson last week. they say they found burglary tools, musical in strastrumentsa program from the church. the church had been burglarized days earlier. a trial date is set in the civil case against five san francisco police officers who shot and killed mario woods. woods's mother alleges her son's civil rights were violated. woods had a knife and charged at officers, who fired at least 21

bullets into woods's body. during yesterday's pretrial hearing, the judge ruled there is evidence to proceed in state court, but not federal court. the attorney said to make it a state-only matter is better for his team. >> it basically clarifies the case for us in many ways. it cuts out a lot of issues that would have been difficult to prove. so in that sense i'm pretty pleased. >> the trial date is september for april 1st of next year. >> from the east bay, berkeley city council has narrowly approved a proposal to limit which mug shots the department can release. >> 21 people were arrested in the alt-right movement. several of those arrested say alt-right supporters then used that information to harass them online. under the new resolution, police can only post mug shots of people arrested at protests if they pose an immediate threat.

javier becerra said it will hold them to unprecedented new standards. >> for the first time in history, an ag's office has required a company to implement privacy by design into its products. that means uber must integrate privacy considerations and protections into every phase of their product's development and design. >> under the settlement, california and the city of san francisco will split $26 million. amazon is warning warning california. a bill would govern how companies can use customer data. an amazon official criticizedzed california's privacy law as being too broad. it tells customers upon request what personal data they have collected and what types of third parties have received it. lawyers for a san francisco woman who is claiming post-traumatic stress as a result of working for facebook is speaking with abc 7 news.

she claims she suffered lasting psychological trauma as a contract content moderator. her job was to sit in a cubicle and watch thousands of videos a day to try to catch and remove offensive posts and live streams. her attorneys say some of those images were extremely graphic, and facebook did not do enough to protect her and other content moderators. >> a typical day for a content moderator might include viewing thousands of violent and trauma-inducing images such as sexual assault, child abuse, animal abuse, suicide. >> they want moderator. no responses yet. the case will have a status hearing in november. >> we have an update to a story we first brought you on "abc 7 mornings" yesterday. it's a rocket in the east bay. look at that.
