down early this morning hopefully it starts to bounce back a little bit. southbound 680, walnut creek as well. the 24 interchange, a crash on the ignacio valley on-ramp. starting to see a few brake lights as well. keeping an eye on that situation. drive times coming up in 10 minutes. the entire nation was watching yesterday after nine hours of emotional testimony from christine blasey ford and judge brett kavanaugh. now all eyes are on the senate judiciary committee this morning. >> it is expected to vote in just about a half hour. if members move forward, a procedural vote is planned on the senate floor tomorrow. then a confirmation vote could come as early as next week. kavanaugh's fate may depend on a handful of senators. susan collins of maine. lisa murkowski of alaska. jeff flake and joe manchin of west virginia. they met less than an hour after the testimony and remained

noncommittal. >> the american bar association called for a delay until the fbi has a chance to investigate the assault allegations. abc 7 news reporter dion lim has been covering the nomination battle this week. >> she is joining us with reaction from both sides. dion. >> reporter: reggie and jessica, it was a dramatic day inside and outside that hearing room. this morning, even though it appears to be relatively calm, certainly with that vote happening in about 30 minutes, there will be lots of passionate emotions ignited from both sides. yesterday we encountered unprecedented restrictions when it came to accessing the building where the hearing was held. she requested fewer sides. a smaller crowd supporting judge kavanaugh. a larger crowd of 300 to 400 gathered inside an atrium and later marched to the steps of

the supreme court. i spoke to jackie speier and this morning caught up with a bay area committeewoman for the rnc to get their reactions to the testimony. >> dr. ford did an extraordinary job as a witness. she was very compelling. is and she was very specific about the actual event. and she gained i think extraordinary credibility. >> while the morning started out strong for dr. ford, by the ends of the day, every republican i know was firmly on the side of judge kavanaugh. and i suspect a couple of democrats will join in supporting his confirmation. >> reporter: back out here live, a full vote for confirmation could happen as early as tuesday. reggie and jessica, back to you. >> dion, no matter what side you

twitter. he has 22 million followers. one tweet could end up being the end of his reign for tesla. he tweeted out last month he secured funding to take his company private at $420 a share. sec said that was false and is asking a federal court to prohibit him from serving as officer or director of a public company and askig for an order to keep him from making false or misleading statements, along with repayment of any gains, as well as civil penalties. >> at the time he made these statements musk had not secured funding for the secured transaction. to the contrary, he had not discussed key terms, including price, with any potential source of funding. >> tesla and his board said they are fully confident of musk and his integrity and leadership of the company.

the plane hit the water 150 yards short of the runway trying to land this morning. the 35 passengers and 12 crew members safely evacuated. authorities are investigating the cause of that crash. 18 people are recovering after pepper spray was released inside a walgreen's in vallejo. it happened around 4:00 yesterday afternoon on springs road. we have reached out to police for more information about why someone released the pepper spray. we'll bring you more details as soon as we get it. a celebration took place in san francisco to honor late mayor ed lee. >> family members of the late mayor cut the ceremonial ribbon yesterday. the chinese education center is being renamed to honor edwin and anita lee newcomer school. it was called a fitting honor for a man who cared deeply about

this is a major breaking news development. the fact that jeff flake, the senator from arizona, who is the person most likely to be on the fence about judge kavanaugh's vote within the senate judiciary committee, the fact that he now says he intends to vote for him, means it is most likely he will get a positive recommendation out of the committee. that pro tells him the next couple of days before the full senate. and it seems like he is now back on track to potentially become the next supreme court justice. senators on capitol hill have spent the night trying to reconcile two emotionally charged and diametrically opposed testimonies. dr. christine blasey ford the reluctant accuser and judge brett kavanaugh fighting for his reputation. >> you may defeat me in the final vote, but you will never

have any corroboration. the hearing is a prime example of what happens when people testify without an investigation. >> that means there is this focus on demeanor. it's not always the most reliable thing. for example, many people are talking about how brett kavanaugh's anger, that's how someone who had been falsely accused would react. it's also how someone caught in a lie would react. >> that's mark osler, a law professor from st. paul, minnesota and a former classmate at yale. he said he is glad the american bar association is calling for an investigation. >> on the peninsula, some of blasey ford's friends and neighbored rally for her outside city hall. nearly 150 people were at that rally organized by a group of palo alto moms. they wanted to ensure blasey ford wasn't alone as she told her story.

wondering what is going on, here's a live look at what's going on. crews are on the scene working right now on the solution. now they aren't shoring up the cracked beams yet. they are still waiting on a design plan and materials to come in for that. but they still have to move everything out of the way. that's what they are doing now, clearing the way for that solution. so they're removing ceiling panels and light fixtures and utilities. they are relocating some of the overhead electric bus systems so they can install the system to shore up the beams cracked. those who live and work in the area are watching closely. >> i want to ensure that we are behind them. we want them to fix it soon so we can enjoy is the park. >> reporter: authorities released a picture of the crack in the second beam. they have looked but they say they have not found any other cracks. so two cracked beams they are

trying to shore up and repair so they can get fremont street open for you. right now they are saying it should be closed through the end of next week. however, i have good news. traffic right now looks fine. i'm looking at what has been a bad backup the last few days. friday light is in full effect out here. also it may be the word to just avoid this area. live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. thank you, amy. time 6:39 a.m. temperature-wise from the coast to the bay and inland, all waking up to temperatures in the 50s at this hour. so certainly need the light jacket as you step out the door. as we go hour by hour, plan out your friday, future weather showing you by 11:00, we're still likely dealing with patchy cloud cover from oakland to hayward. a lot of cloud cover along the coast. that is an indication of a cooler weather pattern that is under way today. into the afternoon, it will be cooler than we were yesterday afternoon. inland topping out in the 70s to near 80.

and i believe we have a responsibility to subpoena at the very least mark judge before we move to vote. it is our constitutional duty to do everything we can to uncover the truth after hearing yesterday that compelling testimony from dr. blasey ford. and we cannot in good con vote without hearing. i suggest there are other witnesses essential for us to hear from. we should hear from other sexual assault survivors who have come forward with credible and powerful stories. and that will be also in my view necessary. but today i am moving that we subpoena mark judge. >> before we vote, i will read a

letter that we received from mark judge last night. as i stated in my attorney september 18th, 12018 letter, i did not ask to be involved in this matter, neuer did anyone ask me to be involved. we told the committee that i do want to comment. my told the comment that i do not want to comment about these events publicly as a recovering alcoholic and a cancer survivor, i have struggled with depression and anxiety. as a result, i avoid public speaking. kavanaugh and i were friends in high school but we have not spoken directly in several years. i do not recall the events described by dr. ford in her testimony before the u.s. senate judiciary committee today. i never saw brett act in a matter dr. ford describes. i am knowingly submitting this

welcome back at 6:50 this morning. we are stim monitoring the senate judiciary committee hearing happening right now in washington, d.c. >> senators began meeting about 15 minutes ago. they denied a motion to get a subpoena for mark judge, who dr. ford said was there the night she was attacked. as far as we know it will be held in a few hours from now. i think they said 1:30 eastern time was their goal. we will continue watching this. right now over to drew tuma. okay. we are going to continue listening in. >> it was only fair that his accuser had the burden of proof.

in my opinion, this wasn't met. you folks that are photographers know you are supposed to sit down. maybe you just ought to leave the room if you don't know what the rules are. >> it appears senior blumenthal may have left the hearing room. >> i found dr. ford's testimony credible and believe she is sincere in her version of the facts. but i also found judge kavanaugh's testimony credible and sincere. ultimately the exists evidence -- >> several -- if you're watching several senators have left the room. >> including senator kamala harris. >> there is simply no reason to deny judge kavanaugh a seat on the supreme court based on the evidence presented to us. i reopened the hearing at the assistance of dr. ford and judge kavanaugh. dr. ford wanted to be heard, and we gave her that opportunity.

not one question to dr. ford was disrespectful in any way. she was treated with courtesy and dignity as i promised her. but the questions my democrat colleagues asked judge kavanaugh were unequivocally and universally hostile. my colleagues first claim that the senate doesn't confirm supreme court nominees in midterm elections. "washington post" fact checker said that's false. indeed, justice -- >> okay. we were just listening to that senate committee meeting happening now on capitol hill. as we noted, there are several senators who have left the hearing room. california senator dianne feinstein remains inside. a lot of the democrats are the ones who have left that hearing room at this point. >> that was while chuck grassley
