good morning, everyone. i'm carolyn tyler. thanks for joining us on this sunday, september 30th. let's start with a quick look at the weather with our meteorologist, lisa argen. >> hi, carolyn. good morning, everyone. it's certainly cloudy and mild outside. yesterday was unusual, anded today, yes, we're not going to see a whole lot of sun. live doppler 7 shows you the cloud cover that's going to thin out in parts of the bay. we'll see more than we saw yesterday and starting out mild. how about upper 50s and low to mid-60s. 64 in concord, 61 in santa rosa with 68 in livermore. brentwood is at 58 degrees. we had a few showers to the north yesterday, maybe a

lingering sprinkle, not out of the question this morning. then we'll be looking at a partly cloudy sky with numbers in the mid- to upper 70s. 60s at the coast. we're dry throughout the afternoon and tomorrow, then rain moves our way. we'll track it for you, coming up on tuesday. carolyn? >> lisa, thank you. new developments this morning, surrounding the fbi's investigation of supreme court nominee, brett kavanaugh. we have learned that fbi agents have contacted deborah ramirez, the woman accusing kavanaugh of assaulting her while at yale. a lawyer for the third woman who's accused him of sexual misconduct says his client has not heard yet from the fbi. president trump weighed in briefly on the investigation. >> but the fbi, i believe, is doing a really great job. they have been all over, will t its findings to the white house. that investigation is supposed to wrap up by friday. after the fbi investigation was announced, the senate

adjourned until tomorrow. it's possible there'll be a vote on kavanaugh's nomination friday. republicans need 51 votes to confirm. now, if arizona senator jeff flake remains in support of kavanaugh, there will be 48 pledged republicans. senator susan collins and lisa murkowski have said they are undecided and senator mike enzi has not announced his stance. the kavanaugh hearing drew tens of thousands of protesters to t nation's capital. among them, a bay area couple who had no plans to join the demonstration, but they were in town to attend a family event. abc 7 news reporter lauram albany. >> reporter: among thousands of protesters at the u.s. supreme court on friday, a bay area couple who had no plans to visit the high court, much less demonstrate in front of it. on their trip to washington, d.c. for a family wedding. >> that feeling of feeling so

with a big assist from their employees at hal's office coffee. >> they felt like this is their way of coping. their way of feeling active, and their way of staying enengaged. >> reporter: after all, the elterman's found after their unplanned activism in d.c., they couldn't just sit and watch, not now, not at this time in history. >> you know, we still hold on to anita hill from so long ago. and it just felt like, wow, here we are again and not a whole lot has changed. >> reporter: in albany, laura anthony, abc 7 news. police have recovered a body at the berkeley marina. someone called police after spotting it floating near a pier. this was around 8:00 yesterday morning. it's not clear yet if that body has been identified. all lanes of i-280 are beak open in san jose after this van caught fire. it happened just before 8:30 last night at the interchange with highway 101. several lanes were blocked while crews moved the van off the

road. no word on whether anyone anniv of the north bay wildfires approaches, remembrance events will be held throughout sonoma county. today is a celebration of heros in santa rosa. this is video of the vigil shortly after the fires broke out. there will be live music today, food trucks, and other activities to honor the unsung heros. the free event starts at noon at courthouse square. we have a list of other events on our website, abc7news.com. in the east bay, a special gathering to remember mollie tibbetts, the iowa college student was murdered over the summer, as you know. tibbetts started kindergarten in piedmont and left a lasting impression with many in her church community. here's abc 7 news reporter cornell bernard. >> reporter: those who knew mollie tibbetts brought candles to the center of corpus christi church to fill it with light,

little like mollie. in piedmont, cornell bernard, abc 7 news. >> the man accused of murdering mollie tibbetts is still waiting to be arraigned. cristhian rivera has claimed memory loss prior to confronting mollie tibbetts. experts say this could set up a defense over his mental state. no date has been set for his next court appearance. crews are expected to start repairs at the salesforce transit center in san francisco today. the $2.2 billion transit hub remains closed because of two cracked beams. materials were scheduled to arrive yesterday. fremont street remains closed between mission and howard. buss are still running out of the temporary terminal down the street. the transit center is expectd to remain ro nex> tn runners will join the fight against breast cancer. they'll take part in the susan g. komen foundation's rac for

an east bay woman is searching for irreplaceable items someone stole from her storage unit. burglars apparently broke into her unit in san leandro and they took the ashes of her father, her grandmother, and family photo albums. abc 7 news reporter amanda del castillo has more. >> reporter: while she's in between homes, robertson has put all she owns into public storage. friday morning, she got the call that someone cut the lock to her storage unit. one glance and robertson realized that the crooks got away with the most valuable items inside. >> my grandmother's ashes, my dad's ashes, all the antique stuff that she left for me. i was her only granddaughter that she left for me, all of ep leather couch, and other items worth some money. material things she says can all be replaced. robertson estimates the burglars

got away with more than $12,000 worth of her belongings. and now she's just begging for the safe return of those album and the ashes. she says those responsible may have mistook a duffel bag full of albums and boxes full of ashes for things of monetary value. >> they looked more like jewelry boxes. they're real beautiful. >> reporter: her grandmother's ashes were kept in a wooden box with musical notes and had the name "also robertson" engraved and her father's ashes were kept in a burgundy box and labeled carl lawrence rockamore. without surveillance cameras monitoring units, robertson is afraid these memories are gone forever.e . and i wouldn't have never brought my grandmother and my father's ashes here if i thought somebody was going to break in here and steal thm. >> in san leandro, i'm amanda del castillo, abc 7 news. elon musk will give up one of his leadership roles at tesla to settle a compin

federal government. musk will remain ceo, but is stepping down as tesla's chairman for at least three years. tesla and musk will also pay $40 million. the s.e.c. sued musk last week, accusing him of misleading investors when he tweeted last month about buying out their stocks. sheriff's deputies arrested nearly 70 animal rights activists following a protest at a petaluma chicken farm. the farm provides poultry to amazon and whole foods. several people called 911 after protesters stormed mccoy's poultry services yesterday afternoon on jewett road. deputies say some of the protesters broke into ilng grp called direct ac atas the suspects could face felony burglary charges. some south bay residents have prepared for flu season by getting free flu shots.

abc 7 news was in san jose as people received the vaccine at the valley health center downtown yesterday. health experts believe it's a good idea for everyone to get a flu shot, especially seniors and those with pre-existing health conditions. >> they are most at risk of developing complications to flu. so we definitely advocate for our seniors to come in and get their flu shots. >> santa clara valley medical center plans on holding more free flu shot clinics on saturdays, next month, and in november. we have more information on our website, abc7news.com. by the way, last year's flu season was one of the deadliest in decades. 80,000 americans died. that according to the centers for disease control. that's the most in 40 years. during a typical season, 12,000 to 56,000 people will die from the flu.

>> announcer: now your accuweather forecast with lisa argen. good morning, everyone. the sun coming up in another 45 minutes and we'll have a pretty nice-looki ining sfli ining sun cloud cover to insulate us overnight. in fact, the evening was pretty mild, but yesterday, we had a few scattered light showers. and as we widen the perspective, there's the system heading up to the north. there'll be another one that links down with the remnants of this hurricane come late monday into tuesday. and that's going to provide some early season rain for us. it is hurricane rosa with winds of 85 miles n hour. the track is to the north at 12. it continues to weaken. it will be a tropical storm when it pushes into the baja peninsula, spreading anywhere from 3 to 6 inches of rain and upwards of 10 inches with potential mud slides here and some very high wav action. so unfortunately, for the folks down there, it's going to be a little dicey in the next couple of days, and for us, we're looking at a quiet day. 61 right now in oakland.

it is 61 in hayward. good morning, napa. 59 for you. it's 57 around half moon bay. so the numbers are mild. they have been, with all the cloud cover. we don't have that heat escaping into the atmosphere overnight. 2 to 6 degrees warmer, and tomorrow, we'll have some southerly winds out ahead of a system. so that's going to really bump our temperatures up. here's a look at walnut creek right now. our forecast highlights mostly cloudy this morning, partly cloudy this afternoon. a chance of showers in the north bay, late monday night, but most of the rain comes towards the early morning hours, say 4:00 or 5:00 in the morning. we'll track it for you in just a moment. this afternoon, we're looking at the fulsome street fair in san francisco with temperatures in the 60s. we'll call it a mix of clouds and sun, so it should be a nice afternoon. numbers climbing through the upper 60s by 3:00. let's bring in our storm impact scale, exclusive to abc 7. this is for tuesday. it's a light system, one on our storm impact scale, anywhere from a tenth to about six tenths of rain and we'll look for the

light winds, but it is going to come at an unfortunate time, when there's going to be a lot of people on the roadways. here we are, monday afternoon, and by late monday night, sonoma and marin will see the first showers coming in, 7:00 to 8:00. and we'll stop this at 4:00 in the morning tuesday and look at the rain coming down at a pretty good clib clp for a little whil here in the east bay, san francisco. hopefully we can get the morning commute through before -- or the rain through before the commute really gets going. so this will change, this is several days out, but you should know your monday, tuesday will have some slick roadways and by the tuesday evening commute, it will be dry. that's our only chance of rain throughout the week. so amounts, pretty impressive for so early in the season. about 0.4, maybe a limit more than that in san francisco, a third of an inch in the north bay, and maybe 0.1 to 0.2 in the south bay. highs today, 76 in concord, 77 in san jose. 60s downtown, and the

it's all coming up on "gma," see you soon. >> thank you, dan. you know if you've ever had a water pipe burst in your house, you can't wait a week for a plumber. a san francisco woman says her kitchen was flooding, but her insurance could not final anyone to help. what did she do? of course, she turned to 7 on your side's michael finney. >> the water was here at my feet, coming from under the sink. >> reporter: elizabeth rory shows what happened when the pipes burst in her kitchen. >> when i turned the water on, yeah. the water would leak out of these pipes. i thought the house was going to just flood. >> reporter: she immediately called her insurance company, fidelity national home warranty. >> they didn't have someone that could come out today. that they would call me back. >> reporter: she says the company told her to wait a week, but this was an emergency. >> it was the biggest mess that you ever wanted to see. it would have continued to leak. it would have destroyed the wood. >> reporter: so fidelity agreed to let her find her own plumber and it would reimburse the cost. >> i got three estimates and i

thought, who can come today? >> reporter: she hired a plumber who came out right away and replaced the pipes and disposal. it cost $2,800. >> thank god it doesn't leak anymore. you can see that. >> reporter: everything worked out until she filed her claim. she says fidelity would only reimburse 1100, less than what she paid. >> and i thought, why, when you preauthorized me. >> reporter: this letter preauthorized her to hire her own plumber and didn't specify what she could spend, only that fidelity would reimburse a standard typical cost. elizabeth says she got a few estimates that were only a few dollars apart. but now she was out of pocket more than $1,000. >> reporter: my money that i use for bills that i owe. she contacted 7 on your side. we reached out to fidelity. it would not discuss the case, citing privacy rules, but said the claim has been resolved to ms. rory's satisfaction. >> they gave me my complete

51, santa rosa. upper 50s, novato, 63, vacavi e vacaville, 64 in concord. so the rain pushing to the north. the clouds will thin out throughout the day today, with 60s for most of you by 10:00. 2:00, we've got low 70s inland. and by the evening, we've got more clouds, it's all going to lead to some rain late monday into tuesday. i'll time it out for you, coming up. carolyn? >> thank you, lisa. developing news this morning out of indonesia. more than 800 people are now confirmed dead following an earthquake and tsunami. one of the hardest hit cities is palu, where thousands of homes have been damaged or destroyed. officials say hundreds of people were taking part in a beach festival when the tsunami hit the city. the quake measured 7.5 magnitude. the tsunami was as high as 20 feet in some places. n drone vi us a better view of the devastation in indonesia.

you can see areas remaining underwater following the tsunami with debris scattered in the streets. you can also see some of the buildings that crumbled following the earthquake. now to the fbi investigation of supreme court nominee brett kavanaugh. we know of at least one person that fbi agents really want to talk to. they have contacted deborah ramirez. she is the woman accusing kavanaugh of assaulting her while at yale. last week's hearing in washington, d.c. drew tens of thousands of people in protest, including an east bay couple. they returned home this weekend and hosted a fund-raiser yesterday at the coffee shop they own in albany. the money will go to the organization bay area women against rape. following last week's hearings senator lindsey graham will appear exclusively on "this week."

you can watch the full interview with george stephanopoulos right here on abc 7. a 13-year-old boy is in critical condition after a shark attacked him near san diego. abc news reporter mark remillard has the latest from encinitas. >> reporter: this california beach, the scene of a dramatic shark attack. >> we have a shark attack. i'm asking for a helicopter. we need to airport somebody out for a shark attack. >> reporter: the call coming in around 7:00 a.m. a 13-year-old boy, attacked off beacon beach in encinitas, california. >> at the time, it was opening season for lobster season. there was multiple other people in the water diving. the shark was seen in the water by the bystanders. they weren't sure exactly what type of shark it was. >> reporter: one of the boy's rescuers described the terrifying scene. >> i realized that he was yelling, i got bit! help! help, help! once we threw him up on the kayak and started heading in and

that's when i looked back and a shark was behind the kayak. >> reporter: lifeguards treating the boy on the beach. he was then airlifted to a nearby hospital with traumatic injuries to his upper torso. >> this patient received very rapid and quick response by the trauma team, the emergency room. >> reporter: the beach now closed for at least 48 hours. >> our number one concern was public safety. we're asking people not to go in the water. >> reporter: signs have been posted warning people to avoid the area. mark remillard, abc news. well, a 58-hour vigil begins in las vegas today, honoring the 58 lives loss in that mass shooting nearly a year ago. greg zanis built one cross for each victim when the shooting happened last year. now the crosses are back on display, ahead of tomorrow's anniversary. each hour, zanis is planning to hold a vigil for one victim. a woman who was shot in the head at that concert nearly a year ago is talking about her life after that terrifying night. here's rob mcmillan from our sister station in los angeles. >> we find out what we're made

of when stuff like this happens. >> reporter: christina and danny staples were there that night in las vegas. when the shots rang out, everything changed forever. >> she took a shot to the head. right in the front. the bullet fragmented >> reporter: christina was in a coma for three weeks after having brain surgery. danny's aunt terry was there, too. >> he never left her side. he slept next to her every night at the hospital. >> reporter: eventually, she woke up. >> i don't think she spoke for quite a long time, but you could tell she was with us. >> i had to learn to eat. i had to learn to walk, i had to learn to write. >> reporter: and figure out how to speak again. danny remembers that day well. >> the speech therapist was asking her what she calls me, so

what do you call this man? and she said, my boo. i said, oh, and that was the first thing i'd heard her say. >> reporter: nearly a year later, she's made incredible progress, but there's obviously still a long way to go. >> what's life like? >> pretty confusing. >> reporter: confusing, because their roles as parents have changed. >> it's hard, because chris was the rock in this house. >> i went from being a normal three-member family to a family just trying to figure it out again. >> give mom a kiss. >> reporter: and for 2-year-old harper. >> i want down. >> it's complicated. no! let me down. >> the connection, it's not there. she wants her mommy back. so it's really hard. >> and her mommy is back, but just not the mommy she remembers. >> right. >> reporter: but they're fortunate that, for them, anyway. life goes on. they recently attended their first concert since the shooting. >> pretty overwhelming, emotion. it was an emotional night. >> reporter: christina still needs a lot of rehabilitation.

>> sometimes it's hard to even remember what she looked like before the shooting. >> reporter: but this family is looking forward. >> i'm not so certain i want to go back blond. i want to stay brown like my natural color. >> reporter: one year after the nation's deadliest mass shooting, danny still can't talk about it, but looking back, they know how fortunate they really are. >> life is really short. we never know when it's our time. >> reporter: and for the staples family, that time hasn't come yet. >> i'm a survivor and i stay strong. >> how much inspiration does she give you, danny? >> quite a bit. >> reporter: in corona, rob mcmillan, abc 7 news. >> tomorrow, country radio stations will mark the anniversary with a moment of silence.

the relative humidity is somewhat high, so we're not used to feeling kind of muggy. that's the way it's going to be today and certainly tomorrow around here, as we get out ahead of a system that will bring rain for us for your tuesday morning commute. there's one system heading to the north. it's raining around mt. shasta right now. here's a hurricane that continues to weaken as it moves into the baja peninsula. as it moves into the cooler waters, it will weaken and spread some very heavy rain, 3 to 6 inches here, 10 inches not out of the question. we have a couple of things going on, with moisture offshore and these two items coming together to bring us an early season rain on tuesday. 62 downtown, it's 61 in santa rosa. 61 in hayward. so, yes, very mild the past several days. and that continues for your sunday morning, 59 in san jose with 56 in morgan hill. it's about 6 degrees warmer than it was yesterday. and yesterday was quite mild. 3 degrees warmer in palo alto and mountain view. so emeryville this morning
