supreme court. >> and i am welcome to whatever the committee wants, because i am telling the truth. >> they will have free rein, and hopefully at the conclusion, everything will be fine. ♪ west virginia >> and after touching down. >> how great is that song. >> reporter: the gloves r were quickly coming off. >> you see what is going on. and you can see the horrible, horrible radical group of d democrats, and you can see it happening right now. >>. >> stoking the partisan di vise that e erupted. >> a vote for judge kavanaugh is also a vote to reject the ruthless and outrageous tactics of the democrat party. >> reporter: this as the fbi rampses up the new investigation into kavanaugh, and the agents are moving quickly with the deadline less than a week away. dr. ford and others are confirming to abc 7 news they have been contacted by agents. and a third julie swetnick has not been contacted according to

her lawyer michael avenatti. and the president saying that he wants them to interview whoever they deem appropriate. and also there is questions about who leaked the letter. >> the fbi can reveal is a n number of things. i would like to find out as part of it who leaked the papers and which democrat leaked the papers. >> reporter: tara news. and it is possible that there is going to be a vote on kavanaugh's nomination friday. the republicans need 51 votes to confirm, and if the arizona s senator jeff flake remains in support of kavanaugh, there is 48 pledged republicans. senator susan collins and lisa murkowski have said they are undecided and senator mike enzi has not announced his stance. senate judiciary committee member and lindsey graham says

that kavanaugh was treated quote very badly, and that he had every right to react angrily the way he did. >> the temperament that i saw was a man who is innocent and rightly offended by being destroy destroyed for a political purpose. so i can asure you that i do not share senator hirono's view of the judge's temperament. >> what we need to focus on is our ability as senators the do our advice and consent job to determine whether judge kavanaugh is credible, whether he was candid with us, and whether his demeanor by the way in accusing democrats of some kind of a conspiracy to do him in is, was so bizarre. >> senator maizey hirono is one of the democratic senatorses who walked out in protest friday. she says if kavanaugh is confirm f ed to the supreme court he should recuse himself in the future de

the kavanaugh hearing grew attention to washington, d.c., and among them a bay area couple who had no plans to join in the demonstration. they were just in town to attend a family event. abc 7 news laura anthony has their story from albany. >> reporter: among the thousands of protesters at the u.s. supreme court friday a bay area couple who had no plans to visit the high court can and much less demonstrate in front of it on their trip to washington, d.c., for a family wedding. >> that feeling of feeling so powerless and needing to do something. >> i told this committee that i wanted a hearing as soon as possible. -- >> reporter: but once they heard the testimony on capitol hill, they felt compelled to do something they had rarely done before. >> i have actually protested twice in my life, and the first

one was the woman's march, and now it is with the supreme court. >> reporter: abraham took this picture of bonnie holding the sign on the steps of the supreme court. >> of course it affects women the most, but it affects everybody, because it is an issue of respect and decency. >> reporter: barely 24 hours removed from the experiences at the supreme court in dc, they wanted to keep the activism rolling by hosting a fund-raiser here at the coffee shop they own here in albany. >> reporter: the couple decided that the big dinner at albany would be the perfect place for the back sale for bay area against rape with their employees who hosted coffee ld not now, and not at this time in history history. >> you know, we still hold on to the anita hill from so long ago

and it just felt like, wow, here we are again, and not a whole lot has changed. >> reporter: in albany, laurie anthony, abc 7 news. >> and a body has been recovered after someone called police spotting it floating near the pier. it is 8:00 yesterday, and it is not clear if the body has been identified. all lanes of i-280 are back open in san jose af this van caught fire. it happened just before 8:30 last night at the interchange with highway 101. several lanes were blocked while crews moved the van off of the road. no word on whether anyone was hurt. as the first anniversary of the north bay wildfires approaches, the remembrance events will be held throughout sonoma county. today is a celebration of the heros in santa rosa. this is video of the vigil shortly after the fires broke out. today, there is going to be live music, food trucks, and other activities to the honor the

mollie tibbetts, the iowa college student who was murdered over the summer. tibbets started kindergarten in piedmont and left a lasting impression with many in her church community. here is abc 7 news report r cornell bernard. >> reporter: those who knew mollie tibbetts brought kand tols the corpus christi church to show light like her bright smile. >> the question that is asked most often is why -- >> reporter: the father leo edgerley tried to make sense of the tragic death. he knew the tibbets when they were church member, and she attended there before moving to iowa. >> to not see her 21st birthday and she lived long enough to know how to love. >> reporter: tibets a 22-year-old student from the university of iowa was found a month later.

an undocumented immigrant was arrested and charged with her murder, cristhian rivera. a family friend led a family letter from her mother. >> we are honored that for a brief period of time, you got to nknow our molly. >> reporter: molly's father attended the service, but he declined to speak with us, and he asked the friends to be kind and generous with one another going forward and in other words, be a little bit more like molly. cornell bernard, abc 7 news the man who murdered her is claiming that he had memory loss prior to confronting her, and experts say it could set up a defense over to the mental state. no date has been set for the next court appearance. crews are expected to start repairs at the center in san fr to d today. the $2.2 billion transit hub remains closed because of the two cracked beams. materials were schedule d to

arrive yesterday for the repairs, and freemont street remains closed between mission and howard and the buses are still running out of the temporary terminal down the street. the transit center is expected to remain closed at least through the end of the week. an east bay woman is search searching for irreplaceable items that someone stole from her storage unit. burglars apparently broke into the her unit at san leandro, and took the ashes of her father and grandmother and family fphoto albums. abc 7 news reporter amanda dell castillo has more. >> reporter: she says the high cost of rent forced her from her hayward apartment last year, and while between homes she has put all she owns into public storage. friday morning she got the call that someone cut the lock to her storage unit. and one glance and robertson realized that the crooks got away with the most valuable items inside. >> my grandmother's ashes and my

dad's ashes and the antique stuff that she left for me. i was her only granddaughter that she left for me, and all of that is gone. >> reporter: she lost shoes and leather couch and o and material things that she says can be replaced. robertson estimates that the the burglars got away with more than $12,000 worth of her belongings, and she is begging for the safe return of the albums and the ashes. she says those responsible may have mistaken a duffle bag full of boxes and ashes for things of monetary value. >> they look more like jewelry boxes, and they are real but beautiful. >> reporter: she says a that her grandmother's ashes were kept in a box with musical notes and had the name allison robertson engraved and her father's were stored in a burgundy boxes engraved. and without cameras surveillancing the area, she is worried that the memories are gone forever. >> i thought that everything

would be safe here, and i never would have brought my grandmother and my father's ashes here if i thought somebody would break in here and steal them. >> reporter: in san leandro, i'm amanda del castillo for abc news. and now to settle a complaint from the the federal government elon musk is going to be stepping down as tesla for at least three years, but remain the ceo. tesla and musk must also pay $40 million. the s.e.c. sued him accusing him of misleading the investors when he tweet about buying out the stocks. >> the sheriff's deputies arrested 70 animal rights activists at a petaluma pet farm. it provides whole foods, and several people called 911 after protesters stormed the poultry service services on juliette road. they say some of the protesters

broke into the buildings and stole chickens a group called direct action everywhere livestreamed what was happen in on facebook. the suspects could face felony burglary charges. some south bay have prepared for the flu season by getting free flu shots. abc 7 news were in san jose as some people received the vac vaccines downtown yesterday. officials say it is recommended for senior and those with pre-existing health conditions. >> they are most at risk for developing the complications for the flu, and we have definitely advocate for our senior s s to e in and get the flu shots. >> santa clara medical center will host more free flu shot clinics next month and in november. we have more information on our website abc7news.com. last year's flu season was

one of the deadliest in decades. 80,000 americans died according to the centers for disease concan troll, and that is the most in some 40 years. during a typical season 12,000 to 56,000 people will die from the flu. now sh, the accuweather forecast with lisa arjen. >> we have things brightening up, but low lying clouds that you can see on odoppler 7, and certain certainly with parts of the bay area today, but overall, we will see a better afternoon. it is going to warm up, and as we widen the perspective, check it out. this is not going to be look like a september view with a system to the north and west of us, and then the hurricane to the south. pretty active in the pacific for a september 30th. we will get a piece of some of the action. this is going to push into southern california and right now, it is a category 1 hurricane, and rosa with the 75 mile an ho 75-mile-an-hour winds moving to the the north, and as it

weakens, it is still going to unleash a lot of rain and heavy surf and mud slides and the possibility of some flooding rain rains here, and anywhere from 3 to 6 or maybe 10 inches of rain and not out of question. so as we are looking at santa cruz, wow it is gorgeous out there, and 58 degrees, and look at the um $numbers here, locall mid- to 70s and mountain view as well. you can see the dew points up, and the cloud cover this morning and the warmth. all of the warmth from yesterday really did not get released into space. it was cloudy and now we are starting out 2 to 5 degrees warmer. 2 to 6 degrees warmer in the napa valley. and a bonus to be 20 degrees warmer at the end of the month here. 66 is in concord and finally, you can see the partly cloudy skies here in san francisco. mostly cloudy to start, and partly cloudy in the afternoon and a chance of showers by tomorrow night, and then the rain comes in overnight on monday unfortunately in time for the tuesday morning commute.

but if you are coming into the city today to the folsom street fa fair, it is going to be on the warm side with the humidity up a little bit and some sun, and the 60s and the upper 60s by 3:00 in the afternoon, and the average high for san francisco in september is 70 degrees. let's bring in the storm impact scale on tuesday, and this is one, exclusive to abc 7, and we will rerank the storms 1 through 5. it is a light one. and anywhere from 0.10 of rain to more. and southerly winds ahead of the system will warm us up into 70s and the 80s, and this is monday afternoon with the clouds and the sun. monday night 8:00, here comes the rain in the north bay and sonoma and morin, and stop this at 4:00, and look at the rain coming down from the peninsula to the south bay, and with us from 7:00 to the 8:00 hour, and then finally wanting to push into the sacramento val e lee. with the rainfall amounts impressive this time of the year, you can expect anywhere

happening today, 250,000 people are expected to take over san francisco south of market area for the 35th annual folsom street fair. it is the largest leather fair in the world. exhibitors and a live stage and plenty of dance music will fill folsom street from 8 to 13th, and the entries are free, and the donations of $10 are encouraged. is your commute to work so bad that you would quit your job? well, new research shows that people in san franciscoccorngo the employment and the staffing firm, robert huff, 22% of the employees in big cities feel traveling to and from the office has gotten worse in the last five years.

moisture out of here for now. we thin out the clouds and call it partly cloudy, but the temperatures are shy of the average. the dew points are high, and so it a mild to warm afternoon with the low 70s inland, and upper 70s by the end of the day. the clouds increase for late sunday and into monday. we will stay dry for the buk oof the day monday but rain moves in late, and then downpours for tuesday morning commute. we will detail it and time it out for you in a moment. caroly carolyn carolyn. >> thank you. news out of indonesia that more than 800 people are confirmed dead after an earthquake and tsunami. one of the hardest hit is the city of palu where hundreds of homes have been destroyed. hundredses of people were taking part of the beach festival when the tsunami hit the city. the quake measured 7.5, and the tsunami was as high as 20 feet in some places. take a look at drone video giving a better view of the devastation, and the areases are

remaining underwater following the tsunami with the debris scattered in the streets. you can see the buildings that crumbled following the earthquake. this morning a teen the aged boy is recovering from the shark attack north of san diego, and the 13-year-old was apparently lobster diving when he was caught in the shark's jaws. abc 7 news reporter marci gonzalez has more. >> we have a shark attack and i'm asking for the helicopter to airlift somebody out for a shark attack. >> rescuers are seen rushing a 13-year-old boy to shore and desperately trying to help after he was bitten by a shark off of the coast can of encinitas, california. >> i hear the screaming and then i realized that he was yelling, i got bit, help, help. once we threw him up on the kayak and started to head in, i looked back and a shark was behind the kayak. >> and the teen is one of many there in about nine feet of water, and diving saturday on opening day of lobster season.

the sudden attack leaving the boy with what doctors describe as traumatic injuries to the upper torso. >> this is a rare injury, and in the ten years that i have been at the hospital, we have not had an injury like this. >> reporter: this is one of several shark attacks this year on both coasts. two weeks ago, 26-year-old arthur medicci shark o -- kill killed by a shark off of the coast of massachusetts. and now this beach is closed, as expatriots are stressing that--t experts are stressing that attacks like this are not common. >> but they are increasing, and people need to be cognizant that when you go into the ocean, you could encounter sharks but the chances of being bitten is very, very small. >> reporter: experts don't know what shark bit him, but it was about 11-feet long. that beach is closed through

anybody to help. what did she do? she turned to 7 on your side michael finny. >> she showed with what happened when the pipes burst in the kitchen. >> when i turned the water on, yes, the water would leak out of these pipes. i thought that the house was going to flood. >> she immediately called her insurance company fidelity national home warranty. >> and they did not have someone who could come out today and they would call me back. >> and she says that the company told her to wait a week, and this is an emergency. >> it is the biggest mess that you have e ever wanted to see. it would have continued to leak. it would have destroyed the wood. >> and so fidelity agreed to lett her find her own plumber and reimburse the cost. >> i got three estimates, and i thought who can come today. >> reporter: she hired a plumber who came out right away and replaced the pipes and the d disposal and it cost $2800.

>> thank god, it does not leek anymore and you can see that. >> everything worked out up the till she filed the claim. and she says that fidelity would only reimburse $1100 and less than half of what she paid. >> i thought, why when you preauthorized me. >> and this letter preauthorized her to pay her own plumber and did not specify how much she could spend, but only they would reimburse a typical costment and elizabeth says she got a few estimates a few apart, and now she was ott of pocket more than $1,000. >> my money that i use for my bills that i owe. >> exactly what she was trying to avoid by having insurance. she contacted 7 on your side, and we reached out to fidelity. it would not discuss the case citing privacy rules, but says that the claim is resolved to her satisfaction. >> they gave me back the complete reimbursement and i have complete peace of mind and i thank "channel 7 on your

good rain for early october. but first things first. we want to update you on the weakening hurricane this morn morning, and it was a category two and now a category one with 75 miles per hour, and it is going to be impacting baja, and in fact, we are looking at a half of ofoot of a rain and gusty winds and mudslides potential, and some flooding with some spots approaching a foot of rain unfortunately, and so as we check out the vantage point, it is looking good in san francisco with the temperatures in the low 60s, and it is a mild start, and 64 in mountainview and half moon bay and boy, you came up from the upper 50s quickly, and it is 66 in morgan hill. a lot of cloud cover holding on from sonoma bay, and this is san rafael, and this is going to thin out as well, and you have an area as well close for for t north, and the rain up to the far north part of the state around mt. shasta this morning, and it is 66 in santa rosa, an concord in 65, and finally

looking at more clouds around with temperatures very mild to start and cool to finish and we will call it partly cloudy by the afternoon, and rain moves in late monday and it is going to stay with us late overnight hours into tuesday morning and now it is looking like it could linger into tuesday and particularly south of san francisco, and so you want the check back with us, and it is still a couple of days out, and of course things will change, but the morning commute on tuesday is looking pretty rainy. if you are headed today over to oakland, it is looking nice at 70 degrees with the browns in town, with partly cloudy skies, and the storm impact scale can and how we rate the systems all winter long from 1 through 5 and a weak system from.01 to half inch of rain because we could see .75 before this thing is through. tomorrow, it is cloudy and muggy and warmer. monday night, rain in the north bay pushing into san francisco and then overnight, you may hear

it at 4:00 in the morning looking pretty good and pretty heavy and coincideses with the morning commute unfortunately. here is 8:30 and you will notice that it is still around, and so by the afternoon, it could still see some showers into the south bay. so amounts here looks like anywhere from a tenth to 0.2 and other areas could see more than that. so upper 70s and san jose and san mateo and closer to 70s as well. heading inland is mid- to upper 70s. and then next week, we will see that we are looking forward to the girls festival where it is going to be milder. the forecast supper 70s inland and 70s around the bay tomorrow, and then the rain coming in tuesday and moving out and we will hold on to coolerp that normal temperatures, but it has been really unusual for monthses
