new developments with the nomination of brett kavanaugh as the fbi investigation gets rolling into allegations of sexual misconduct. good evening and thanks for joining us. i'm dion lim. as the fbi conducts its investigation into sexual misconduct allegations against kavanaugh, one of his yale classmates is coming forward. the classmate describes kavanaugh as a frequent drinker and a heavy drinker. this goes against how the judge described his habits when testifying. the same classmate said kavanaugh was often belligerent. as for the investigation deborah ramirez has been interviewed by agents. she is the second woman to have accused the supreme court nominee of assault. some are concerned about the narrow scope of the investigation. ramirez is one of just four people who the white house and

senate republicans have asked the fbi tainterview. also on the interview list mark judge and p.j. smith, high school friends of kavanaugh. leland keser, a high school friend of christine blasey ford. one local congresswoman is raising some serious concerns about the investigation and the deadline. cornell bernard with her reaction and why diane feinstein could find herself under investigation as well. >> now the question becomes is this going to become an investigation or is this another fig leaf. >> congresswoman jackie spear was there when christine blasey ford testified thursday about her sexual assault allegation against supreme court nominee judge brett kavanaugh. >> i am here today not because i want to be. i am terrified. >> reporter: spear hopes the fbi investigation now looking into blasey ford's claims uncovers new information, but she has doubts. >> the accuser here, dr. christine blasey ford, hasn't been approached by the fbi yet.

so what does that tell us? >> reporter: spear wants to see judge kavanaugh submit to a lie detector test like dr. ford took over the summer. >> it is not believable that judge kavanaugh did this. >> reporter: congresswoman national committee woman says the fbi has already conducted six background checks on kavanaugh. she believes there's not enough information from blasey ford's testimony to find anything new. >> i think it's a disgrace. i hope we can move forward from this. >> reporter: senator lindsey graham is vowing to investigate senator feinstein's office how dr. blasey ford's confidential letter was leaked. >> i'm going to call for an investigation of what happened to this committee, who betrayed dr. ford's trust, who in feinstein's office recommended katz as a lawyer. >> reporter: meantime the legal team has said it's reached out

to the fbi and waiting for a response. >> there are new developments on this supreme court nomination every hour. developing news out of sacramento, california has become the first state to require publicly traded companies to have women on their board of directors. the governor signed the law today which means california businesses will have to have at least one woman on the board by the end of next year. in july of 2021 the number goes up to two if the board has five members, three if they have six or more. companies that fail to comply will face fines starting at $100,000. governor jerry brown also signed into law today strict net neutrality protections. but within just hours the trump administration announced its suing. abc reporter lillian kim joins us live in the newsroom with this story. >> reporter: the governor was

facing a midnight deadline. and now he's signed it into law the scene is set for a high stakes showdown between california and the trump administration. california has been one of the key figures of the trump resistance, and now another issue the state as taken on. net neutrality. governor jerry brown signed the bill into law which has full and open access to internet. it was in direct response to the fcc's decision to repeal obama era net neutrality rules. the new law would prevent companies from blocking or slowing internet traffic and charging for some websites while being denied access to others. arguing the federal government not states has exclusive power to write the rules governing the web. >> it's not surprising that they're suing. these guys are completely in the

pocket of the big corporations. they don't care about democracy or about access to the internet. >> california is now one of four states that have passed their own net neutrality laws. tara is a consultant that works with companies who support them. >> we understand there'll be a long process in front of us to help manage that legislation on a national basis, but this is part of the due process we need to go through in this country. >> reporter: in addition to the justice department, telecom companies are expected to file their own lawsuits. lillian kim, abc 7 news. >> lillian, thanksgivings. now, the governor vetoed legislation that would have allowed san francisco to open supervisored safe injection sites. he said, quote, enabling illegal and destructive drug use will never work. san francisco could still go ahad head and open a site but it would violate state and federal law. now, a bill the governor did sign allows b.a.r.t. to build

housing and shops at open state parking shops. it lets it zone its properties and limits the city's ability to interfere. we do have a list of what's being signed and vetoed on our website, abc7news.com. crews began work to repair the cracked steel beams today at the transit center. workers first step was to stabilize the $2.2 billion transit building after material arrived yesterday. fremont street remains blocked off between mission and howard, and buses are still running from the temporary terminal down the street. the closures are expected to last throughout theeeen ar o the bayast couple of days and much more could arrive. when the first storm of the season will arrive. >> we're going to start to see signs of it early tomorrow morning as you said. and right now we are seeing

moisture ahead of that storm. so far most of this is evaporating as it reaches the ground, but there have been a few reports of sprinkles. the air has been so dry at lower levels that so far it hasn't reached. first storm of the season is on the way, and that storm is headed in our direction. do expect a few light showers to develop tomorrow evening in the north bay. 7:30, it's still in the north bay. it's going to take a few hours before it starts to shift. 10:00 p.m. the focus is still to the north, and then it'll start to make its shift on tuesday. on our storm impact scale we're giving it a light level one system, isolated higher totals and there is a slight chance of thunder. hour by hour time line for your tuesday is coming up. dion? >> really do need that rain, sandhya. thanks. well, the blue angels are on their way as san francisco prepares for its annual fleet week. kate larson joins us live along the embarcadero to explain what

sets san francisco's fleet week apart. kate? >> reporter: dion, this ship just arrived here today and there will be all sorts of navy ships just like this in the bay this week. of course when we think of fleet week we think of the blue angels, these large and impressive ships. but there's also a lot of planning that goes into this week meant to keep you safe. every year the blue angels fly into town. ships pass through our golden gate and sailors file down city streets. which means it must be october and the start of fleet week. but the humvees, ships and planes are not just for show. he emergency management which holds exercises with the police and fire departments along with the military to prepare for a potential disaster. on sunday this navy landing

craft utility boat simulated a landing on pier 50 as if there were a catastrophic earthquake in san francisco. >> we really feel like this is preparing san francisco and making us a much more resilient city. >> reporter: but fleet week is also about family. >> we drived here just to see our son. >> reporter: wearing a hat with the name of his son's ship, family waited outside pier 32. hours passed and crews of sailors made their way from the ship to the embarcadero until a familiar smile was met with open arms. >> you get to see family, you get to spend time with them, tour around san francisco again. i haven't been home in almost two years, three years. missed them so much, i love them so much. >> reporter: and back out here live, you can see soldiers

we are approaching the anniversary of the disaster that took lives, shattered dreams but also defied the resilience of many of our neighbors. today santa rosa held a celebration honoring those who ran towards the flames to save lives during last year's wildfires. >> thanks for being here, guys. an awesome community. first responders, you are my heroes. >> a first responder echoed the words shared by that musician. >> if it weren't for these first responders it would have been unquestionably a much more horrible situation. >> reporter: jeff and his family lost their home in coffey park. >> i basically saw charcoal size embers falling in the streets and that's when i got out of there. >> reporter: and when residents like him escaped the fire, firefighters rushed in to battle it in. you're looking at video by berkeley firefighters when they rushed to it scene last october.

t-shirts hanging on clothe lines represent all the public service agencies that left home to serve in the north bay. >> it was just a very difficult night to understand the magnitude that was coming into our community. the firefighters did an absolute wonderful job under an insurmountable fire. >> reporter: north bay heroes relied on the news talk station for vital information during the disaster. it's now one of many sonoma county organizations looking to keep serving its neighbors. >> there's so much to do in rebuilding, and there's so much to do to take care of the mental health of this community at this year anniversary mark. >> reporter: and while many look back santa rosa's fire chief urges everyone it's critical to look forward because disaster can strike at any time. >> we live in a beautiful area, so we don't think of disaster a

whole lot. we're prone for an earthquake, so we just need to be prepared to take care of ourselves and our neighbors. >> be sure to look for more stories on abc 7 in the coming days as the anniversary of the north bay wildfire approaches. we'll be posting them all on our website, abc7news.com. shifting gears now in the south bay, one of the last landmarks of silicon valley's agricultural area has this was the last day of business for c.j. olesons cherry stand. they first opened in 1932. the family business dates all the way back to 1899. it isn't high rent or a land deal forcing the store to shutdown. the owner says it's competition and because they can't find enough workers to sort the fruit. well, the university of san francisco broke ground today on a new residence hall for students. usf provided these images to abc

7. the new dorm will house about 600 students in 150 suites. it's located on usf's loan mountain campus. it's also expanding a nearby dining hall to seat 300 people. both projects should be finished in 2020. close to 1,500 people laced up their sneakers for the susan b. coleman's race for the cure today. >> i don't have my running shoes on. >> i'm very impressed by her video and running skills. she got in on the action at least for a little while. race for it cures across the country raise millions of dollars each year to help find a cure for f the run decked out in bright pink and cheering from the side lines. >> it's great to stand up for my aunt. myt had years ago, so this is my first

sprinkles overnight tonight. widespread rain for everyone on tuesday. sun comes up at 7:05. temperatures will be in the 50s as we head into the noontime hour, mostly cloudy. clouds thicken later in the afternoon, and there is a chance for some rain in the north bay at 7:00 p.m. but you really will have to wait. you'll see the hour by hour time line in just a moment. clouds in the bay area tomorrow morning. a few patches of dense fog can't be ruled out especially for the north bay for the commute. tomorrow afternoon another mild one. today was actually a bit warmer than yesterday. 73 oakland, 75 santa rosa, 68 in san francisco, and 66 in half moon bay. storm impact scale comes in for tuesday. it's a light level 1 system. light to moderate rain expected. most areas about a tenth to 0.6 of an inch. a slight possibility of rain on

the storm torn american flag that weathered hurricane florence was auctioned off at charity tonight. kevin as it was nicknamed was flying at an old u.s. coast guard lighthouse. when that storm moved in it was live streamed to thousands. it was sold for more than 10,000 with money going towards hurricane florence relief. glad to see people banned together even for something so tattered and torn.

the raiders struggle in the second half of games to start the season has been a source of frustration. the raiders scored a combined three points. that's three points total in the fourth quarters through their first three games. today that changed. oakland hosting the browns. marshawn lynch's reaction tells you all you need t know. derek carr for a first touch down for the season. oakland goes ahead. carr threw three of his four touch downs in the fourth

good evening and thanks for staying with us. i'm dion lim. in tonight's headlines landmark legislation signed into law by governor jerry brown today. california has become the first state to require publicly traded companies to have women on their board of directors. companies that fail to comply will face heavy fines. the toughest net neutrality laws in the nation also signed by the governor tonight. it guarantees internet speeds won't slow down or speed up based on pricing.

nbc news, tokyo. >> newly released video shows u.s. navy sailors rushing to save people from a crashed plane off the coast of micronesia. several boats pulled up to the windows of the 737, some already under water. navy divers waded onto the wings searching inside the plane as it continued to sink. officials say the flight to a micronesian island towards guam came short friday crashing into a lagoon. seven of the 35 people onboard were taken to a hospital. one person may still be unaccounted for. events have already begun to honor the 58 people who died during the las vegas mass shooting. a candlelit vigil was held this evening after a memorial of crosses were placed for each and every victim. last year on the night of october 1st 64-year-old steven paddock opened fired. he later shot and killed himself. friends and family for the first time described the pain and the

seasons, 247. it's an achievement the consistent hitter called weird. yes, it was, but it's still a record. the a's in anaheim. did not disappoint in this finale. in the second inning hit his career best. the two run shot tied t at 2. then in the sixth inning franklin also a two run shot, gave oakland a 4-2 lead. but in the bottom of the ninth jeffrey had an rbi double and then taylor ward had a 2 run home run so the a's are now onto the post-season. their wild card game against the yankees is wednesday in the bronx. an emotional day for the giants and hunter pence, as the popular outfielder playing what is expected to be his for san francisco. his contract is up. the emotions had to weigh heavy. pence was 0 for 4 with three strike outs, but he wasn't
