justice of the supreme court. >> in that same speech, he accused senator feinstein of withholding information about the allegations. other lawmakers have been calling for an investigation in to feinstein and the letter she received from dr. ford. >> a bay area woman that went to yale with kavanaugh is speaking out today where she doesn't support him. >> she sat down with me today and explained it's not his conservative views or his past actions that have made her break her silence. >> if you can be like popular in law school, his group of guy friends were like the popular guys. but they all seemed nice. >> reporter: leslie went to yale law school with judge brett kavanaugh, class of 1990. she says when kavanaugh was first nominated, she was asked to sign two competing petitions, one for him, one against. she signed neither, choosing to be neutral. >> prior to the hearing you didn't want to go on camera.

what changed for you? >> what changed for me was the hearing and listening to his anger and his falsehoods. it's just -- i realize he's a different person than the one i thought i knew. >> i liked beer. still like beer. we drank beer. the drinking age was 18. >> reporter: kavanaugh was only 17 when maryland changed the drinking age to 21. therefore he was not grand fathered in and never a legal drinker in high school. >> you can't be mad or not vote for one because they drank in high school. but he's lying that he did it legally. >> reporter: he also notes kavanaugh's testimony, the sexual assault accusations may be a clinton revenge conspiracy. she says she's disappointment, especially since they worked on the yale law journal together. >> legal scholars submit articles and we decide what we

want published. >> being part of the yale law journal, kavanaugh would have been well versed on fact finding? >> definitely. for every single footnote, you fact check it. >> it's important to know that she has not witnessed the type of drinking that some of kavanaugh's friends and roommates have described. >> it sounds like she's most bothered by what she considers small lies is. that accurate? >> it said there are some small truths. what does that mean about the bigger claims? as a trained lawyer, you have to operate in the world of evidence and facts, especially if you're going to be on the supreme court. i'll have more coming up at 6:00. >> so she would not support him? >> not right now. >> interesting. all right. moving on, you want to stay up to date on the developments of the supreme court nomination with the "abc7 news" app. down load and customize it for alerts.

now to the weather. rain is going to be here in just a couple of hours. let's get to spencer christian with the timeline. spencer? >> the north bay coastline right now, a live look at radar. a large batch of showers getting organized. no official reports yet of rainfall at our regular reporting stations. you can see that we've got pockets of rather moderate rainfall developing here places like borrego bay. here's the storm looking at it. churning offshore, gaping a little bit of momentum. a light storm ranging only one on the storm impact scale. we'll start to see some light showers tonight, light tomorrow. showers continue overnight with the highest rainfall totals in the north bay. >> thank you, spencer. track the weather in your area with the "abc7 news" app. we now know that the news

sales force transit sent will be shut down through next week. "abc7 news" reporter melanie woodrow is live now to show us the traffic situation. melanie, you nailed down a possible date for fremont street to reopen, right? >> reporter: exactly, kristen. officials are saying that fremont street could be opened by october 12th. they're hopeful it will be opened by october 12th. that's not this friday but next friday. we'll show you the traffic situation right now on main street. there's a little bit of a backup. we joined you just an hour ago. traffic was looking pretty good compared to what we saw on friday when there was quite a big backup. again, free lamont street expected to be closed through the end of this week and next week, as well. yellow and blue jacks installed are providing the initial stabilization for the sales force transit center.

>> these jacks were brought in just to ensure that the bus decking was secure until we can get the system we want. >> reporter: it will likely be a series of towers and column, that will reduce the number of lanes available. >> it's ten feet wide. and then we will have what we call k-rail, which is a concrete barrier that will protect this shoring from any traffic. so that will give you a width of 14 feet. >> reporter: they will unveil renderings at a meeting tuesday morning. he said it will not be reopened this week. >> we're talking about over $2 million spent on such an

around b.a.r.t. stations, giving b.a.r.t. to override local zoning laws to build housing. >> reporter: the bay area is known for its housing crisis, and traffic congestion. but a new law signed by governor brown aims to address both. bill 2923 allows bill to build housing and shops. >> we need to build more rousing that's affordable to working families in the immediate vicinity of the b.a.r.t. stations. >> reporter: 250 acres of parking lots around 26 b.a.r.t. stations would be looked at for more than 30,000 new homes. it will be up to b.a.r.t. to decide the mix of units, but at least 20% of all units need to be affordable at every individual site and across all b.a.r.t.'s transit. >> reporter: supporters say it would elevate the quality of life for many bay area reside

residents. should be left up to cities. >> this isn't about whether to build housing. i would say that b.a.r.t. already has enough problems. >> reporter: catherine baker voted against the bill, saying cities like dublin have done a great job adding housing units by leaving it up to b.a.r.t. the consensus is now that b.a.r.t. must work with cities to fast track the housing development. governor brown signed a bill that expedites a new stadium for the bay area. the a's by the way, are getting ready to take on the yankees in new york. the wild card matchup is set for this wednesday.

police are investigating the discovery of a body near a lake. sky 7 was of the scene just before noon today. the land plobody was discoveredo a dam. the family of 18-year-old mariah davis tells "abc7 news" that the body is hers. they say the richmond woman was last seen with her ex-boyfriend at a restaurant last week. they also say that he has confessed to killing her. we reached out to investigators but have not heard back yet. a few days ago, we profiled a disgruntled san franciscoen who has documented the decay in his neighborhood and tagged city officials. now we're meeting others who are equally frustrated. wayne freedman is live in

forecast with spencer christian. >> our first storm of the rainy season of the fall season has arrived. here it is. you can see a large batch of moisture just offshore. some of it pushing on shore in the north bay. although most of our reporting stations are saying cloudy skies, there must be something hitting the ground somewhere. here's a view looking out over the bay. currently 64 degrees. oakland 68. san jose, 76. 61 at another view of cloudy skies of the bay. 79 in bacaville. 81 in livermore. and one more view of the approaching clouds. this is the first small storm arriving tonight. a wet morning commune, especially in the north bay.

warmer and dryer by the end of the week. overnight, cloudy skies and showers confined mainly to the north bay. pretty mild conditions will be with us overnight. this storm ranks one on the storm impact scale. a storm of light intensity, producing light to moderate showers. the heaviest rain will be in the north bay. 11:00 tonight, getting wetter and wetter along the coastal areas of the north bay. that will be the trend overnight as the moisture continues to surge up toward the north bay. some of the heaviest rain will fall offshore, and the system will weaken a bit as the showers move on shore. so remaining dry overnight into the early morning hours. for morning commuters, there will be some wet spots. 1:00 tomorrow afternoon, party to mostly cloudy skies. rain will have tapered off. and later may see spotty showers

developing in places other than the north bay. over in the east bay and down in the south bay. highs tomorrow, many locations in the south bay and east bay will receive no measurable rain. but in the north bay, look for 3/4 inch of a rain. now we'll talk about highs tomorrow. low to mid 60s on the coast. low 70s around the bay. inland warming up to upper 70s to about 80 degrees. that's as warm as it will get tomorrow. here's the seven-day forecast. cooling on wednesday and thursday. wednesday morning, we may see a lingering shower or two. cooler than average with a only in the mid 70s. look for sunny skies and mild to almost warm weather by sunday. inland highs reaching mid 80s. >> what interesting

tonight, breaking news in the fbi investigation into allegations against the president's nominee, judge brett kavanaugh. the president's combative news conference. pressed on whether he's imposing limits on what the fbi can do, who they can talk to, and what the white house then did late today. and the president repeatedly talking about kavanaugh and drinking, saying the judge had, quote, difficulty with drinking. and just tonight, what we've learned about the alleged third person in the room, mark judge. also tonight, we're on the scene of that catastrophic earthquake and tsunami, the wall of water crashing in at nearly 500 miles an hour. the staggering death toll mounting. more than 800 killed. the frantic search for survivors continues tonight. there is news tonight about that mystery car explosion, two men and a 2-year-old boy were killed.
