live where you live, this is "abc7 news." >> i'm oy with it. i don't mind the rain. >> your eyes are not deceiving you. after five months, the rain is back. >> let's check out live doppler 7, colorful, you got the green, yellow, some red there, as well. rain falling in the north bay. it's expected to become more widespread. thanks for joining us. i'm larry beil. >> and i'm ama daetz. let's take a live look outside. some drivers should be prepared for a wet morning commute. >> "abc7 news" weather anchor spencer christian is tracking the storm. >> this is a colorful event. the areas of yellow and orange indicate areas of steadier rainfall. it is raining from ukiah to santa rosa. mainly light rain is what we're getting, but some locations are

getting steadier rain. here's the storm offshore, a light storm, and it ranks one on the storm impact scale. a storm of light intensity, expected to produce light to moderate showers overnight and into tomorrow. there will be wet spots for the morning commute, especially in the north bay. so here's the latest feature. you can see the whole bulk of rainfall aimed at the north bay. the bay area's first rain of the season, welcomed by many. took others by surprise. >> cornell bernard is live with this story. cornell? >> reporter: it's been raining off and on here tonight. we saw a steady downpour earlier this evening, but not everybody was prepared to welcome back the rain. october started off wet in san rafel. rain fell on 4th street. >> i wasn't really expecting it,

but i don't mind the rain. >> reporter: staff here moved quickly to cover their pumpkins from the downpour. >> they're looking for coverage right now, especially the first rain of the season. >> reporter: rain tarps are the hottest sellers. >> it's not supposed to rain october 1. >> reporter: the rain cause this man off guard. >> i have an outdoor sofa in the garden. too late, i blew it. >> reporter: police say many of us may have forgotten our safe strategy for driving in the rain. rule one, don't tailgate. >> the roads are wet and the cars start to slide that's when we see the sligss. >> hopefully fire season is over now. >> reporter: the fire chief says following a brutal and deadly summer, fire season is far from over. >> after the rains go away, the fuel is going to dry out and we'll be in the same situation that we were just a few days earlier.

tennessee, president trump accused the democrats of using the investigation against supreme court brett kavanaugh as a political tool. >> diane feinstein -- >> croshe had this letter for months. and she didn't reveal it until everything was finished. then she says oh, we want more time. >> reporter: president trump says he wants the fbi to investigate anyone within reason. democrats are offering up a list of 24 individuals that they say are crucial to the investigation. and around the country, protesters are rallying around the accusers. they are urging the fbi to follow every lead. republican senator jeff flake says he's pushing for a thorough investigation. >> i for one am waiting for additional information that will come from the supplemental fbi investigation to inform my decision on judge kavanaugh's nomination. >> reporter: flake's support will be crucial to kavanaugh who

denies all accusations. >> it comes to jeff flake, murkowski and susan collins. the question is whether they conclude that he should not be supported. >> reporter: the fbi has been given one week to complete its background investigation. lawyers for deborah ramirez say investigators have spoken with her, but so far she's the only one of the three named accusers to be interviewed. president trump said he would not be bothered if the fbi interviewed all three of the accusers and the nominee himself, leaving the door open if the fbi finds something. >> the person that takes that position is going to be there for a long time. i have a very open mind. in the east bay, a man is under arrest suspected of killing his ex-girlfriend. a body was found near a dam this morning. sky map 7 shows us the location near san leandro. the suspect has been identifies as 19-year-old anthony

pimmentell. the family of 18-year-old mariah davis says she is the victim and was last seen with him at a restaurant last week. they tell "abc7 news" that they confronted him looking for answers. >> we met fijitty. he said he had not seen her. >> investigators have not officially identified the body but are expected to make an announcement tomorrow. it's bun of b.a.r.t.'s major issues, fare evaders. we captured this video of rider after rider pushing or jumping the fare gates. some fare cheats can't be cited we learned. lillian? >> reporter: ama, this is the result of a decades old decision that excepts san mateo county from many of the rules applied

everywhere else. it happens all the time throughout the b.a.r.t. system. jumping and bypassing the fare gates. paying customers take notice. >> it's upsetting. you don't want to necessarily call someone out on it, but you would hope that there would be better systems in place for catching that. >> reporter: b.a.r.t. launched an enforcement operation in march to crack down. riders are asked for proof of payment. but san mateo county is except from the program. when b.a.r.t. was formed in the '60s, san mateo county opted out. which means the same rules that apply to other areas don't apply on the peninsula. >> we have the system that's existed for a really long time, but we haven't been able to adjust to modern times with respect to our transit systems. this is an example of it. >> reporter: a few b.a.r.t. members voiced concerns for exemption. peninsula residents we talked with say inspectors should be able to look for fare cheats

everywhere. >> i think it's needed everywhere. i see it enough, you know, on a daily basis. >> i think everyone is using the same system. they're all benefiting from the same maintenance. i don't think there should be any exemptions, really. >> reporter: this is just one of the issues b.a.r.t. is dealing with. another is over payment. only 10% of the roughly 3800 people who have been cited so far have paid their fines. lillian kim, "abc7 news." tomorrow, we expect to get a look at the temporary system that will help to shore up those cracked steel beams at the transit center. right now, there are six hydraulic jacks providing stabilization. today, fremont street will remain closed till at least next friday, october 12th. the transbay joint power authority will provide more details tomorrow morning. the traffic tie-ups caused by the closure may only get worse with fleet week under way.

a little over an hour ago, the las vegas strip went dark in honor of the 58 people killed one year ago at a country music festival. the lights went out at 10:01, the moment the gunman opened fire. 58 white doves were released at an event earlier this morning. the deputy sheriff's association of san mateo county is warning against a controversial cell phone case. you see the case? it looks just like a case. the sheriff's association says it could cause people to call 911. yu could end up being held on the ground by police. or somebody could potentially get shot. well, a life of laughter and collecting hundreds of items tat belonged to the late robin williams will go up for auction.

here are the forecast features. we see it already. the first fall storm has arrived and will continue into tomorrow morning. a wet morning commute for some, especially in the north bay. we'll see a warmer, drierer weather pattern. upper 50s to low 60s. and the storm that is moving in right now ranks one on the storm impact scale, a storm of light intensity. again, mainly in the north bay, but we may see a stray shower or two moving to the bay area. highest rainfall total also be in the north bay. our projection for rainfall totals indicates most locations around the bay area will see no measurable rain at all. santa rosa will see over an inch at ukiah. and clearlake about a quarter inch.

our dan ashley has the night off, but he's out raising money to help bay area kids. nor than 100 golfers were out early today in danville for the 22nd abyunnual dan ashley's cam concord golf event. in those 22 years, 10,000 kids have been sent to summer catch, raising nearly $2 million in the process. the camp is every summer at lake tahoe. >> the best part about friends of camp concord, no one knows which kid is on scholarship. not the counselors, not the other kids. they just get the chance to be a child and have fun. >> after a day of golf, dan hosted a dinner and auction. if you would like to help out,
