it's a one, it's light. it's going to have light to moderate intensity of rain as we head throughout the next 24 to 36 hours. it's been mainly the north bay so far and right off the coast with heavier showers. you can see those are heading up to the north bay also. a look at the bay bridge. definitely looks wet this morning. the windshield wipers will be running. don't tredress for anything too cold. we're at mid-60s around inland, upper 70s at noon. let's bring in alexis for traffic. >> most are solo vehicle spinou are driving too fast for conditions. we've had a lot of slowdowns already this morning. lafayette, 24 before acalanes

describes why there was a discrepancy. >> reporter: jessica, san mateo county is exempt because of a decades' old decision made in the '60s, far before b.a.r.t. trains started running in the region. the exemption has created some complications with the agency's current fare enforcement operation, which was first passed last october and was launched in march. it has also presented b.a.r.t. from enforcing other rules across the peninsula, rules enforced in alameda, contra costa counties. the restriction is one of a number of obstacles b.a.r.t. leaders face trying to stop fare beaters. only roughly 1% of people cited have actually paid their fines. >> it's upsetting. you don't want to call someone out on it but at the same time you hope there would be better systems in place for catching that kind of thing.

>> reporter: at african-americans represent about 12% of b.a.r.t.'s ridership, the chronicle reports african-americans have received nearly half the citations. some b.a.r.t. board members have been vocal with their concerns about the exemption, though right now there are no current plans to change any of it. i'm reporting live from millbrae b.a.r.t. station, abc7 news. >> frustrating for how few people are paying those fines. supreme court nominee brett kavanaugh will not return to teach at harvard law. according to "the washington post," the university made that announcement in an e-mail to law students last night. it did not give a reason why. hundreds of law students had signed a letter calling for kavanaugh to end his teaching commitment, but they had not sent that letter to the school's dean as of last night. only on abc7 news, a bay area woman who went to yale law school with kavanaugh is revealing why she cannot support him for the supreme court. >> she spoke exclusively to

driver was assigned to suppression repair work. they have not released his name or any details, other than it was just an accident. we'll yep date you as soon as we get more information. in the east bay this morning we're expecting investigators to release the identity of a body found near a dam at lake chabot but police have already arrested a suspect. sky map 7 shows where that body was found yesterday morning. it's not far from lake chabot road and astor drive. the suspect is anthony pimentel. the victim is reportedly his ex-girlfriend. the family of mariah davis says she was with him at a restaurant last week. they tell abc7 news they confronted him, looking for answers. >> stories never matched. we met him, he was very fidgety. he was on the defense, arms crossed. but looked us in our eyes and said he had not seen her.

>> he is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow. san francisco state university looking for a new president. leslie wong announced he's retiring after seven years on the job. he's faced some issues since entering his role in 2012, including a hunger strike on campus two years ago. students were calling for more resources for the college of ethnic studies. he's also named in a lawsuit against the university, claiming the school discriminated against jewish students. lawyers released a statement saying, we remain focused on our goal about bringing necessary change to sfsu with regard to the repeat and ongoing pattern of targeting and discriminating against jews and israelis on campus. officials in indonesia announcing the death toll from friday's earthquake and tsunami has increased to 1,234 people, up from 844 at this time yesterday morning.

some survivors are looting shops and gas stations because supplies are running so low. the arrival of new food and fuel is being slowed down because of road damage. in las vegas the strip went dark at 10:01 to honor the victims of a mass shooting. this is one of many events to mark the anniversary. there is a name-reading ceremony and we brought you live pictures on abc 7 yesterday morning. you're never more than seven minutes away from my accuweather forecast. let's take a look at live doppler 7. it's showing a few sprinkles in the south bay and across the san mateo bridge. it's really the bay bridge, richmond/san rafael bridge getting hit hardest with the rain this earning month. you'll find the slick spots there. our next batch of -- as we have waves of showers today, is going to hit the north bay once again. places like marin county could

pretty much see a steady rain through the morning commute. here's a look at the golden gate. you can see how wet it is already. at least it's not too breezy, but pretty much the activity planner revolves around getting wet, especially in the morning hours. hopefully you can find the umbrella. beaches, this is where it's going to be wet with waves of showers. if you're out on the ferry, the best chance of getting wet is this morning. the east bay shoreline where we'll have scattered showers through the morning hours. up until about 10:00. you can see it gets into the mid-70s at noon and hangs out there for the better part of the afternoon hours and isolated showers through 8:00. the peninsula, one much our dryer areas. if we get a shower it will be between 8:00, 10:00 as temperatures rise to the upper 60s. pretty dry. our last stop will be inland east bay, one of the dryer areas and one of the warmer ones. 63 this morning. this is in the valleys. if you're in the east bay hills, you'll get a pretty good rain

over the next couple of hours. in the valleys we'll see sunshine and low 80s in the afternoon. here's alexis. >> good morning, mike. very busy day on the roads with all the wet pavement out there today. i want to update you on several crashes this morning. the first one, eastbound 80 near university and berkeley area. we had this on camera. on the right side of the screen. you can't see all the flashing lights gone. that crash was pushed to the university off-ramp. traffic cleared out quickly. trying to recover here in the lafayette area, still about a 15-minute delay on westbound 24. all lanes stopped at acalanes road. that was released before 5:00 but yet another solo vehicle spinout crash. that's the theme this morning. onlooker delays for people heading through that scene. two updates for crashes on southbound 101, a rollover crash pushed off to the shoulder. definitely heavy rain in that area. slow down and drive for conditions. southbound 101 before central san rafael, another crash pushed off to the side there.

the west. most of the moisture will remain over the coast once in a while one of these storms will develop. they are isolated and stay that way through 4:00, up until 7:00. as we head towards midnight through tomorrow during the commute in the morning, you can see another round of showers and possible thunderstorms develop. they move from southeast to northwest. they'll be rotating a little different. today they're coming in from the southwest and heeding northeast. tomorrow they'll go north to south. they finally dissipate and that's it for the first storm of the rainy season. temperatures mid to upper 60s. san mateo, 70 to 80 degrees. another mild night on tap. we'll have some upper 50s to mid-60s like this morning. here's my updated accuweather forecast. scattered showers and thunderstorms for tomorrow. that's why we have a one on the storm impact scale. you can see we get back into the

60s, 70s and 80s where we should be by saturday and sunday with a whole lot of sunshine. this morning, maybe a lot of aggravation on those roads. here's alexis. >> it's been busy. 5:22 and we've already had about ten pretty significant collisions. one of those days you want to give yourself extra time for the cmmute. we're looking live at some wet pavement in the san rafael area. southbound 101 we're cruising along just fine. we've had two crashes in the north bay, one a rollover that did clear. you have to really take it easy today. here's a zoomed in look at san francisco. you can see some yellow on live doppler 7. i've added that layer to our traffic map so you can see what roads are getting rain. soggy streets in the city and the salesforce transit center as well which means fremont is closed between mission and howard. looks like a little delay, westbound 80 as you get into the city, too. i think those delays around the salesforce transit will be worse than they were yesterday since we're dealing with the rain as

bay area bridges as you should prepare for a tough morning commute. it's been tough already. >> i think we have probably about a dozen crashes. almost all of those solo vehicle spinout crashes. so, slow down. good morning. it's tuesday, october 2nd. >> we just found out from mike, we're not going to get just today but tomorrow. >> i think it's a two-day event. this is about 3:00 this morning. rain falling on orinda on highway 24 and st. stevens overpass. the rain is pretty intense. i drove through there about 20 minutes before that and it was . the rainfall amounts won't add up to a moderate amount. grab the umbrellas just about everywhere. light to moderate showers not only today but i did extend that

a rollover accident, ain is oka. this is what crews want to warn people about, tell them -- they want people to be extra careful this morning. >> we find our perception reaction time is delayed a little bit. the roads are wet and our cars start to slide and that's when we see our collisions. here's video we shot in notice vat stow around 4:30 in the rain. it's been steady throughout the morning. we've encountered it in the east bay as we were driving to the north bay. it's widespread all over the bay area. officials say one real key part of driving this morning, giving yourself a lot of extra space between you and the car in front of you. reporting live from highway 101, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. police say a truck hit and killed a woman as she crossed piner road in santa rosa last night.

justice because they drank in high school, but he's lying that he did it legally. >> reporter: senate majority leader mitch mcconnell says there will be a full senate vote on judge kavanaugh's nomination this week. it's not clear at this point whether republicans have the votes they need. abc news, washington. happening today, we expect to get a look at the temporary system that's being put in place to shore up two cracked steel beams at salesforce transit center. right now six hydralic jacks are keeping them stable. crews will replace them with steel pipe towers that will sit in the middle of fremont street. the transit center and fremont street will stay closed until at least next friday, october 12th, when free metropolitan street reopens, traffic will be limited to just two lanes. and the traffic tie-ups may get worse with fleet week under way. they will draw huge crowds to the waterfront and downtown san francisco, es he specipecially blue angel show.

we have a full map of events on our website, abc7news.com. happening today, san francisco supervisors are set to approve a $14 million settlement with a woman left paralyzed by a falling tree limb. this happened two years ago at washington square park. emily jo was watching her kids play when a 100-pound limb snapped and fell on her. it broke her skull and severed her spinal cord. the case is one of the largest civil settlements in city history. new details on a deadly plane crash in palo alto. the ntsb says the pilot appeared confused about the location of the palo alto airport minutes before landing. the plane bounced off the runway before lifting off again and then crashing into a nearby pond. the pilot died. his two passengers survived. a former attorney for san francisco based github is facing

richmond/san rafael bridge. on the roads, ferry ride, transit, all caution because of the wet weather. the morning is going to be the best chance for steadier rain. in san francisco that's possible until 10:00 and then we turn to scattered showers. back down to 62 degrees this evening. in the north bay, steady rain through at least 10:00. places like kent field,field,fii mid-70s throughout the afternoon hours. 66 this evening. down in the south bay we have just sprinkles for the most part today. you'll start at 64. warm up to about 80 this afternoon. down to 69 at 8:00. because this storm is going to hang around through tomorrow, you have a better chance today and tomorrow. i'll show you hour-by-hour look coming up next. let's bring in alexis. we knew it was going to be busy. how busy is it? >> pretty busy, especially for

come for the rain season, bring it on. walnut creek, sprinkles but most of the steady rain has been staying to the hills. embarcadero is wet, about 0.50 of an inch so far. the steadiest rain will be for the morning commute. in marin commute we'll have light rain throughout the day and kent. chance of lightning today and tomorrow as storms become more scattered. into oakland, heading towards piedmont. a moderate shower that will get 680 -- excuse me, 580 wet and 880 wet as it moves through there. you can see the area of low pressure that will slide to the west. that's why our chances of steady rain go down as they'll start to move offshore. after about 11:00, scattered showers offshore. maybe an isolated storm the rest of the afternoon into the evening hours. as you can see on our clock,

past 7:00 up to midnight, that's when the next wave of showers and potential thunderstorms. see the red in there? that's some downpours that could be moving through. that will continue through tomorrow's morning commute. notice the direction changes. the first storms come from the southwest and move northeast. these come from the southeast and move northwest. they do get into the south bay at times during the afternoon hours tomorrow and by 11:00 they're gone. we could get up to 0.10 an inch of ra inin the east bay and south bay. a half inch in the north bay. this storm will stay a one through at least wednesday. it's going to stay cool but still kind of damp thursday. then the humidity lowers friday and then the warm sunshine comes out for the weekend. that's when we'll hit temperatures that will be in the low 60s at the coast. low to mid-80s for saturday and sunday. and that pattern will stay steady through at least monday. good luck out on the roads. let's get to alexis. >> i just watched the bay bridge toll plaza get a little shower

time, seasonal and temporary employees and includes workers at whole foods. the company says hourly employees who are already making $15 an hour will also see an increase. overall amazon expects this change to impact 350,000 workers. this does follow some recent criticism over low wages and poor working conditions for warehouse employees. the new wages go into effect in just a few weeks on november 1st. a new housing option for more homeless people in the east bay. today the city of oakland will install 20 new tuff sheds. in is video showing what they'll look like. the new sheds going up on the south side of lake merritt will help get 40 people out of tents. this is the third batch the city has installed. the city says the goal is help the residents find permanent housing within six months. a heads up if you used to be a movie pass subscription holder. the struggling company is about to reactivate some people's accounts. according to mashable, moviepass

sent an e-mail entitled moviepass updates to some annual subscription holders. they say there's a new unlimited movie plan for $9.95 a month and you'll be automatically ep rolled unless you opt out by thursday at 6:00 p.m. many people are upset about it. taking a look at the roads, we definitely have a lot of issues out there with the wet pavement. we have three crashes currently on westbound highway 124. one of those is apparently off on the shoulder on acalan lafayette. one on fish ranch road and a new one diablo. live doppler 7 showing heavy rain pushing through the area. that's the yellow and orange you're seeing on live doppler 7. here's a little north of there in walnut creek, southbound 680. folks starting to hit the
