>> drenching rain in the north bay again tonight as you look live at live doppler 7. lighting up in green, yellow and red. i'm dan ashley. >> i'm ama daetz. how much rain can we expect. >> sandhya patel is tracking it for us. >> you will see that in the north bay is where our focus is as we're seeing strong cells right now. downpours reported from novato all the way to san rafael. street level radar taking you into black point, redwood boulevard. you will notice how heavy the rain is. when we look at the rainfall rates, about 1.5 inch per hour. we should not be seeing rainfall rates like that. moderate rain from petaluma out towards the marin county coast. it is now steady and light from oakland to emeryville, harbor bay parkway into san francisco. bay shore daley city, this is a

stepfather who is a famous cartoonist. >> reporter: scott adams, creator of dilbert took to social media with the heart wrenching details of his step son's overdose that happened this past weekend. livermore police are not naming the two teens who died. adams believes his step son's death is one of the cases they're talking about and they're warning. >> my step son, a little boy that i raised from the age of 2 was dead. >> reporter: scott adams' ex-wife called him sunday with the terrible news. 18-year-old justin miles was found dead in his room. >> the coroner's found a fentanyl patch on his arm. if you don't know what a fentanyl patch is, i didn't either. >> reporter: he says the teen may have also been taking xanax. his overdose on sunday and the death of a second teenager on monday prompted livermore police to post a warning to facebook. >> it's going to take a couple weeks to be able to confirm what

caused their death. but in the meantime, we don't want to to wait and take the opportunity and educate the community. >> reporter: police are looking into possible connections between the deaths. a synthetic and highly addictive pain killer may be involved. >> we found drugs or attained or mixed with fentanyl. it can be a deadly combination. >> reporter: livermore has had four deaths so far this year. numbers for 2016 alone are startling. >> as many people died in one year as entire vietnam war. >> he's created an app for first responders to map the drug incidents. >> if there's a bad batch killing people, what's going on in realtime rather than waiting for the deaths to pile up? >> reporter: mike says the tracking tool is being used widely on the east coast. as the epidemic spread here to the west coast, they're trying

to get agencies to use it. last month the police started carrying narcan and say it saved several lives already. abc7 news. >> just so tragic. thanks very much. there is a state database for narcotics and controlled substances that officials hope will put a dent in this crisis we very in this country. doctors are now required by law to check it before prescribing opio opioids. that effort was started by bob pack of danville whose twos children were killed in 2003 by an impaired driver. he says the driver had received multiple prescriptions from six different doctors at the same hospital. >> the problem was that all of these doctors never spoke to each other or shared a medical file and didn't know what each other was doing. >> the system is designed to red flag doctor shopping addicts and prevent deadly combinations. we have more information op our website, abc7news.com with links to resources house to prevent

prescription abuse. >> developing news where nach and grab thieves hit four cell phone stores. three took place at the at&t and sprint stores on ig nashio valley road. the other in pleasant hills. details have not yet been released. two men entered stores, grabs phones and other devices before taking off in a gray infinity g35 with temporary plates. >> new developments in the cracked window at san francisco's sinking and leaning millennium tower. tonight an engineering report reveals the crack on the 36th floor was caused by an exterior impact. these photos offer a close-up view of the break that happened over labor day weekend. there o an wea by a massive bang. the report doesn't conclude what the impact was actually from. it's still not known when the salesforce transit center will reopen one week after workers

school friend ford says was in the room during the alled attack. also interviewed deborah ramirez, the second named accuser. there's another person stepping forward with information, carrie ber tram. she alleges that kavanaugh analyst friends tried to conceal and discredit ramirez in a series of text messages. two of the principal actors have not been interviewed by the fbi. dr. christine blasey ford and judge bret kavanaugh has denied all allegations of misconduct. >> to get a sense of how hot emotions are running here in washington, one of judge kavanaugh's most vocal supporters lindsey graham says if his vote were to fail this week, he would ask president trump to renominate judge kavanaugh. lana zak, abc news washington. >> in the south bay, the diocese of san jose held the second of three listening sessions to hear

the beloved toys "r" us mascot jeffrey the giraffe could be making a comeback. lenders who bought the chain canceled a planned bankruptcy auction yesterday. instead they revealed reorganization plan that would allow the relaunch of toys "r" us and babies are us brands. this move comes several months after the retail giant liquidated all 740 u.s. stores. >> now to a close call in the north bay. a man leaving church had to slam on his brakes to avoid hitting a toddler wandering in the middle of the street. kate larsson who spoke to the driver who rescued the little girl. >> i'm always on top in terms of safety. >> reporter: on sunday, ricky lynn's safe driving saved a life. after leaving church, i was

driving down a busy street in fairfield when he saw something unusual in the distance. before he crossed the intersection, he saw something on the curb. >> we had cars parked here and here. i saw maybe some pink, something that was about this big. >> reporter: once the lie turned green and he started to cross the intersection, he realized that it was a little girl standing right here in the middle of the street. >> i had to slam on the brakes. then i had to hop out of my car and ran over to grab her. i didn't fellow if she would continue across the street. >> reporter: she was scared and crying. when she calmed down he took a selfie with her while they waited for police. it was 8:00 a.m. the girl's poren an family were asleep when the toddler wandered outside. >> the mom was still really upset. i went over to the mom and said listen, don't worry about what happened. just use all that extra energy you can to prevent it from happening again. >> reporter: that's what ricky did on sunday. his 7-year-old niese was hit and

we saw our first round come through earlier today. this is our second round in association with the low finally starting to advance. rainfall totals have been over an inch in santa rosa, san rafael picked up a third of an inch of additional rain in the past hour. san francisco .2. only trace amounts in san jose, mountain view, livermore, oakland 700, 600 in fairfield. south bay and east bay get more rain tomorrow. it thes right now in the 60s and an 70s. it's warnl out there. you add to that the humidity many areas like oakland, san carlos, heyward, santa rosa, napa, all in the 60s. that is a humid range. if it feels sticky out there, you're not imagining things. it's definitely sticky. slick on the roads right now. our roof camera, scattered showers through tomorrow. muggy into thursday. brighter and milder conditions for the end of the week for the blue angels performing.
