>> there's a movement to possibly bring back toys "r" us after it closed all stores over the summer. abc 7 news reporter a map da del castillo is at one of those stores in san jose >> reporter: something weird happened in the last minute. toys "r" us sign just came on just within the last minute. i don't know if that's a sign of things to come. but we only said good-bye to the retail giant and geoffrey the giraffe in june. again, all signs are pointing to a possible comeback. wall street journal said the company received qualified bids for assets, including brand names of toys "r" us, babies are u.s., geoffrey the giraffe and associated websites. lenders canceled a planned bankruptcy auction. lenders revealed a reorganization plan.ne to ersco. but they have given the company

abc 7 news anchor dion lim has more on what the agency was looking for. >> reporter: there are dozens of e-cigarette products on the market. and at et big times smoke shop, this is the most popular selling product. in 18 months, juul made a meet orrick rise. according to the center for tobacco control, research and education dominating 70% of the e-cigarette market. >> it became like high school and college phenomenon. >> reporter: the food and drug administration seized over 1,000 documents from juul san francisco headquarters. into the product's appeal into young people. >> juul actually admitted when they started out they really did market to youth. they did a lot of social media promotion. they later said it was a mistake. >> i don't see kids smoking around the halls or the bathrooms but i feel like ill might smell it.

from the south bay on both sides of the bay. this is going to be the case through the morning hours. not as much ponding as yesterday. it could be slick for some of us. be careful. a big break in a string of celebrity burglaries at the homes of high profile stars, including rihanna. four people are in custody accused of stealing phones, jewelry, designer handbags and piles of cash. according to the los angeles police department, the suspect scouted upscale neighborhoods are athletes and celebrities lived. they even drove around in ex pensive suv to blend in. police say during the burglaries, one person would knock on the door. if no one answered, they would break in and go right to the bedroom. the victim's home had been selected based on social media postings and touring or travel schedules of the owners. >> police believe the suspects could be responsible for two dozen burglaries. they found a list of other potential targets including matt

damon, lebron james, viola davis. heads-up, you're going to get an alert on your cell phone this morning that may startle you. it is planned nation wide. it is fema's first nationwide test of a wireless emergency alert in case of national threats like a nuclear attack or terrorist attacks in multiple cities. the alert will be sent at exactly 11:18 this morning. officials expect the alert to reach 75% of wireless enabled devices across the country. it's being called a presidential level alert, but emergency messages are prewritten and approved in advance by various government agencies. the city of oakland opened its third tough shed community to help house the homeless. it is right next to peralta park. it will provide a dry place to stay for 40 people. the sheds are only meant to an

emergency method to get people off the streets. >> we want that this program works because we have seen is the t other tough shed programs ended their status as unsheltered. >> oakland opened its first tough sheds last december. the goal is to help residents find permanent housing within six months. in the north bay, budget cuts could lead to dozens of positions also getting the axe. the city council discussed the plan that would cut $7 million next year. that would eliminate 50 mostly vacant positions. that includes six full-time slots for firefighters. the fire chief says that could make it more difficult to replace retiring firefighters and staff new stations in the long run. >> new details on that facebook hack that affected 90 million accounts. facebook says an investigation found no evidence that the attackers accessed any apps

thomas keller knowingly gave oxycodone and fentanyl to people outside the scope of his practice. he is accused of submitting two fraudulent health care claims for payment. doctors are required by law to check a state database before prescribing opioids. it shows the prescription record for narcotics and controlled substances to doctors can decide if it's valid to describe that medication. that was started by bob pack of danville whose two children were killed by an impaired driver in 2003. the driver had received multiple prescriptions from six different doctors at the same hospital. >> the problem was all of these doctors never spoke to each other or shared a medical file, so they didn't know what each other was doing. >> the system is designed toed flag doctor shopping addicts and prevent deadly kpeupcombination. this morning we're getting a slightly better timeline of when

in the south bay, the bishop of the diocese of san jose say he was moved by what he has heard from victims of clergy sex abuse. bishop mccraw held a second listening session last night. the diocese plans to release the names and status us of priests credibly accused of abuse. people spoke at the session and gave ideas on ways to move forward. >> it was very formative for me. painful at times to hear the stories of the victims, their families, their friends. an advocacy group of victims of clergy sex abuse filed a lawsuit demanding the names of the offenders. police are asking forhe public's help cratching suspects at snatch and grab thefts. police say two men entered at&t and spring stores on ignacio

valley road and verizon on oak grove road. they took off in a gray. infiniti. caltrans does not want people to vote for a gas tax repeal and it is using signs to get the word out. it supports sb1, the gas tax law signed into law last year. leaders of the gas tax repeal initiative are upset with these signs. they say caltrans is using taxpayer money for political advocacy. caltrans has agreed to change the sign but not because they're political. caltrans don't want drivers to take their eyes off the road for too long to read the signs. they're going to remove the website address. but opponents say caltrans is using taxpayer money for political advocacy.
