beyond fast. live where you live, this is "abc7 news." >> go home! >> on the eve of a critical vote for president trump's supreme court nominee, tempers flared in his chief accuser's peninsula hometown. i'm dan ashley. >> and i'm ama daetz. the senate plans a procedural vote on brett kavanaugh's nomination at 7:30 our time tomorrow morning. >> republicans then want to hold a confirmation vote as early as saturday, but it's not a done deal. everyone is looking for clues from the four remaining undecided senators. >> republican steve daines says he's walking his daughter down the aisle at her wedding saturday no matter what. >> there were rallies tonight in the bay area, mostly supporting

the palo alto professor who says brett kavanaugh assaulted her in high school. >> kate larson is live in palo alto where a rally for christine blasey ford got unexpectedly heated. >> reporter: that's right. the demonstration happened right here, and a lot of people brought their kids who were even writing thank you notes to be delivered to dr. ford. about halfway through the rally, a group of counterprotesters showed up in order to disrupt. in san francisco, hundreds of union workers marched at city hall. the rally continued here in palo alto in dr. christine blasey ford's hometown where families came out to support dr. ford and say no to judge kavanaugh. >> we are fighting for women's rights. >> reporter: 8-year-old abigail heldp a sign that said thank you, ms. christine, while perched on her father's shoulders. >> we teach our children, our

son and daughters, it's important to stand up what's right and show that by being supportive. >> reporter: in the te rally, counterprotesters showed up. >> there's no corroborating evidence. >> reporter: do you believe dr. ford? >> absolutely not. >> it's difficult to put this together. >> reporter: rick smith is a former fbi agent and now private investigator in san francisco. he's not surprised by how quickly the fbi submitted a report this week, because he says there would be agents all over the country subjecting simultaneous enter views. it's the length of time since the assault that poses the problem. >> i was in the fbi for 25 years, and i've been in the private sector for 22, 47 years. i've never interviewed anybody about something that happened 36 years ago. so i couldn't -- you're just not going to get anywhere with it. >> reporter: so one of dr. ford's neighbors here in palo alto told me it's still unclear

satisfied with still no report from lisa murkowski or democrat joe manchin. but heidi heitkamp says she's a no. the democrat, up for re-election in a state president trump won by 36 points in 2016. >> i can't get up in the morning and look at the life experience that i've had and say yes to judge kavanaugh. >> reporter: senate democratic leaders blasted the fbi investigation. the bureau did not interview accuser christine blasey ford or judge kavanaugh, who has denied the allegations against him. but gop leaders say the investigation was credible and thorough, backing up the judge's story. president trump at a minnesota rally -- >> you see what's going on in congress right now, with one of the most respected people potentially, hopefully supreme court justice brett kavanaugh. letter to the fbi director expressing disappointment, saying she was ready to turn over corroborating evidence. >> by the end of the day, u.s. capitol police arrested 293 people for refusing to leave the protest at that senate building. among them was a bay area woman. she face timed with her tonight and she said she feels empowered. >> these are women from arkansas, north carolina, florida, indiana. they are women that are deeply committed to justice and really here putting it all on the line, getting arrested. >> she says the highlight of her day was high fiving comedienne amy shumer is, who wases a arrested. in his own words, judge kavanaugh is justifying his combativeness in those senate hearings last week. >> your coordinated and well

"abc7 news" was there where the man flipped his car and crashed. police say another driver was chasing him and shooting at him. he was not hit, but he did crash. the driver was not hurt. highway 17

when a big piece of construction equipment, as you see here, hit the overpass near highway 9 and knocked out several pieces of concrete. no one has wurhurt but it did t ear traffic jam. new developments in sonoma county. the bomb squad blew up a suspicious object left near a pg&e facility. deputies say it was two pieces of metal connected by a wire. traffic slowed own south bound 101 near river road, because deputies closed the ramps in order to investigate. there's a troubling investigation in san jose. police believe a high school volleyball coach molested some of the young men who played for him. he faces accusations of improperly touching three boys going back to january of 2017. he coached at independence high. he was arrested yesterday after school contacted parents.

>> the strike also includes the marriott in downtown san jose. marriott says it's disappointed the union went on strike. union leaders say members will picket until demands are met. monday is the first anniversary of last fall's deadly firestorm. in a year, we have begun to see plenty of rebuilding, though it's not just physical. as wayne freedman shows us, a nonprofit has taken on some of the personal challenges. >> reporter: i asked about rebuilding, and more than a few say this is not the hardest part. >> it's just a matter of ordering the right stuff and having the right guys. >> reporter: but for anyone who lost a loved one or house in the fire, there are no mental blueprints. >> i locked the door and the next day it wasn't there. >> just realizing the most important things in your life are gone. >> breathing and relaxing.

>> reporter: they have lived with trauma a year and counting. today they eased some of that pain in a yoga class. the ceo debbie mason says the nonprofit found a need in helping firefighters deal with ptsd. >> we've put together yoga, we've trained more than 300 mental health professionals for psychological recovery. >> after the fire, many described delayed awareness of their anxieties or just plain mental foginess. what happened in a few hours may take years to get over. the trauma is physical. the yoga -- >> it was like there was some kind of release, like i let go of that stuff. >> it's just taking that time to do something besides fire stuff. >> reporter: no, rebuilding is never easy. not the outside part and especially the inner. >> the inner, i think it's just trying to put the pieces back together to a certain degree for

"abc7 news" was there when it didn't take long to find the problem. ficus trees are running all over, bursting pipes and she says there's an easy fix. >> we need them to take down the trees. they're just -- it's a danger now. it's a real dpaanger and a liability. somebody is going to get hit. >> the city owns the trees and she's filed three complaints. but she's still waiting. if you didn't see the blue angels today, you probably heard

sunny and milder weekend. gusty in the hills and the coast on saturday afternoon. live picture here, we are looking towards san francisco and city hall. visibility is good. right now, as you look at live doppler 7, we don't have any wet weather to worry about. skies have cleared out parts of the north and east bay. lingering clouds in the south bay, but that will be changing overnight tonight. temperatures in the 50s and the 60s. look at how it compares to 24 hours ago. it's cooler, and noticeably cooler, down nine degrees in santa rosa. down six in san jose as we look at the dew points. a measure of how muggy the air is. those numb rers going down, as well. mostly in the upper 40s to low 50s. 55 to 59 degrees is muggy. we've lost that muggy factor and it will continue to be dryer air. tomorrow morning, look for temperatures that are going to be cooler. lower numbers than this morning. cooler conditions, mid to upper
