680, bernal. it is just a huge mess. traffic-wise, they are letting the center divide through. it's one of the areas where there is a wide shoulder. the three main lanes of this road are blocked. you can see one line of vehicles is getting by. however, it is a complete parking behind that for a little over three miles. sky 7 is saying backup is beyond 580 in the dub lib, pleasanton area. ace rail is recommended here this morning. surface streets, stick to 580 and take 880 south. abc 7 news reporter amanda del castillo is northbound 680, subpoena ol', still trying to get to the scene. what can you tell us? >> reporter: yeah, alexis. right now i should tell you we are approaching castle wood drive. i'm going to turn the camera around so you can see all the

traffic coming in. one lane being opened. traffic still coming through. now, we know that the accident involves an overturned big rig. two sedans were racing when this happened. the big rig was carrying 27 tons of dirt. we are still making our way towards that. we are 10 minutes out at this point. i'm going to toss to sky 7 so you can see just all of that backup that it has caused. we are still looking to learn more details about exactly what happened. as soon as we know, an overturned big rig because of two cars that were racing. we will update you all throughout the morning. southbound traffic still coming. that he wants on the left of your screen. we are heading northbound about a half mile away from bernal

avenue. reporting live this morning. amanda del castillo, abc 7 news. amanda, thank you. developing news. here is where we stand with brett kavanaugh. 100 senators will meet on capitol hill at 6:30, just 30 minutes from now. >> a test vote is scheduled for 7:30. the final confirmation vote could happen tomorrow senators susan collins, jeff flake, joe manchin, lisa murkowski say they are undecided. the vote could remain open until sunday morning. kavanaugh is defending himself in an op-ed for "the wall street journal". he notes i might have been too emotional at times.

i know my tone was sharp and i said a few things i should not have said. people protesting against him in palo alto were met with counterprotesters who support the supreme court nominee. >> a small group of kavanaugh support issers drove into town from the east bay. they were up against hundreds of neighbors. rick smith explains how it will follow him. >> sticks with him in terms of his reputation. for ever. even if he's confirmed, it is still going to be with him. more protests expected today and into the weekend. u.s. capitol police arrested 293 people for refusing to leave the protest at the building

it was two pieces of metal connected by a wire. a driver ran a red light and hit a man at the corner of oak and baker streets 9:00 wednesday night. the man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. investigators say the driver stopped briefly but then took off. police are looking for a black or dark blue toyota prius. anyone with surveillance footage is asked to call police. do you recognize this man? the suspect accused on of taking thousands of dollars of jewelry in the south bay. now we are hearing from the heartbroken store owner >> uber offering a free ride, but there is one special stipulation. here is what's going on with your accuweather 12-hour planner. dry day with light humidity.

this is a crash that occurred a little bit after 4:45 this morning. we got calls into chp saying two she is dans were racing at a high rate of speed. this involved in a collision with those two sedans and a semi hauling 27 tons of dirt. it flipped over. boy, we have a huge mess. all lanes currently blocked. only the shoulder is getting by. no estimate when they will get this reopened. i think we will have a better idea once we get a little more daylight and we can see how much is there. a quick check of our traffic maps. it is a sig-alert. backup north of 580. whatever you have to do, it has to be better than that. that is close to an hour delay right now. and a 30-minute delay, eastbound 580, greenville road and 205, traffic heading into tracy. normally safe this time of day. various lanes closed from greenville to 205. lease check in with mike nicco.

swiped jewelry and cash from this store. they recorded the salesman swiping items. at one point he opens the cash register and helps himself. it happened while the store was open last week. the store's owner is glad nobody got hurt. >> as for the merchandise, all that can be replaced. however, you feel like you've been violated. because he took so much. suspect. he swiped $6,000 worth of cash and merchandise. if you recognizehim, campbell police want to hear from you. recreational cannabis is coming to mountain view. city council approved an ordnance for two dispensrys. there are restrictions about where the shops can operate, though. mountain view is the only city between san francisco and san jose that allows recreational sames. officials want to get the word out on another massive raw beef recall. there is concern it may be

contaminated with salmonella. 57 people have 16 states reported getting sick between august and september. the beef is sold at walmart and sam's club including walmart, cedar river farms and showcase. you can find the details at abc7news.com. the dmv says wait times at its offices are getting shorter. officials tell state lawmakers the average waits from dropped by 57 minutes during the past two months. they credit extending hours and hiring extra workers. lawmakers bill dodd of napa and jim beale of san jose say they need to into what what people can do without having to go as well. they are transforming a crate and barrel store. it will be called amazon four star. it will feature top-selling items from amazon's website.

samonte coached at independence high. the boys were students and played on the volleyball team. police arrested the man wednesday after the school contacted investigators. administrators fired him. thousands of workers in san francisco and san jose are striking. they have been marching in front of the marriott marquis and six other hotels since yesterday morning. "abc 7 mornings" brought it to you as breaking news. and a similar scene in downtown san jose at the marriott. marriott says the hotels will remain open across the bay area while the strikes continue. this gets me so upset. the a's wild card loss to the yankees was tough. you see that.
