abc7 news. >> mr. president, i will vote to confirm judge kavanaugh. >> republican senator susan collins of maine breaking her silence on a kavanaugh nomination and cast what is seen as the deciding vote to place the embattled judge on the united states supreme court. thanks for joining us. senator collins laid out her support for brett kavanaugh in a deliberate 50-minute speech, saying he deserves the presumption of innocence related to the sexual assault allegations made by palo alto's christine blasey ford. >> i found her testimony to be sincere, painful, and compelling. nevertheless, the four witnesses she named could not corroborate any of the events of that evening. >> collins praised kavanaugh's

judicial record and made no mention of his behavior of last week's hearing that led to questions about his judicial temperament. while all eyes were turned to collins after lisa murkowski of alaska and jeff flake of arizona announced their intentions this morning. >> flake is supporting kavanaugh's nominee. murkowski is against it. protesters shouted down democrat joe manchin after he announced he'll support the nominee. >> i had to deal with the facts i had in front of me. >> shame! >> a final confirmation vote is expected tomorrow. >> now, somebody closely watching this entire confirmation process from the beginning is bay area attorney friends with judge brett kavanaugh at yale law school. >> vernon greg was on abc7 news shortly after kavanaugh's nominee. he is back to shed more light on kavanaugh and his own evolving views. he is with kristen sze. >> vernon greg is a former prosecutor in san francisco. he is now ceo of the center for
