woodrow is live in san francisco where she spoke with the sister-in-law of the bay area woman who first accused kavanaugh. >> who is this all sitting with dr. christine blasey ford, melanie? >> reporter: ama and raw ford mendler came to speak with us. she says she believes there is time for it to come out differently. as the senate prepares to vote on brett kavanaugh's nomination to the supreme, dr. christine blasey ford's sister-in-law hopes kavanaugh will withdraw his nomination. >> because me being a supreme court justice at this time in this country is not good for this country, and i care more about my country than i care about my own personal ambition and there's time for me maybe in the future, but right now is not the time. >> reporter: sandra ford mendler describes watching her sister-in-law who she knows as chrissy testify that kavanaugh sexually assaulted her when both were in high school. >> i definitely shed tears when

watching that. >> as for kavanaugh's testimony -- >> kind of a jaw-dropping experience to imagine that was the behavior of somebody that would be a supreme court justice. >> reporter: she questions the fbi's investigation. >> she wasn't even interviewed. she was expecting to be. >> reporter: and is saddened by president donald trump's remarks at a political rally in mississippi. >> when did you get home? i don't remember. how did you get there? i don't remember. where is the place? i don't remember. how many years ago way it? i don't know. >> it was a terrible moment in our country for him to do that. it was hurtful and retraumatizing. >> reporter: she says she felt a bright spot upon learning of republican senator lisa murkowski's decision to break party lines. >> i could not conclude that he is the right person for the court at this time. >> it was like an emotional life raft. >> reporter: and there's one more bright spot that she says has reached her sister-in-law. >> there is this conversation going on around these issues and i think that some solace for her, that there's a deeper

stop now. every woman deserves their voice to be heard and to be believed, and so, you know, trust me, we're moving forward. >> all right. let's look live again in washington where senate democrats plan to keep speaking all night up until tomorrow's final vote on judge kavanaugh, which everyone expects will be confirmed. >> if you have the "abc 7 news" app you will get an alert on your phone or tablet when the vote happens. enable push alerts when you download the app. in the south bay tonight a football player was hurt during a game at foot hill college in los altos his. witnesses tell us the player was on the ground for 20 minutes before medics took him off the field. there's no information on his condition. teams from los altos and mountain view were playing tonight. a hit-and-run driver killed a pedestrian tonight in east oakland. it happened around 9:30 near 73rd and bancroft avenues. police say traffic will be blocked for several hours. investigators have not released details on the vehicle involved.

across the bay, san francisco police arrested two people they believe shot another group of people on a sidewalk. this happened in the filmore district. it happened on scott secret around eddie around 7:00 this evening. three went to the hospital. all expected to recover. a fire weather watch and wind advisory are going into effect as we're about to mark one year since the north bay fires. >> still a dangerous time out here. meteorologist sandhya patel is here with a look at the conditions we should expect this weekend. >> yeah, dan and ama, we have a fire weather watch for the north and east bay his, the santa cruz mountains and east bay valleys. it is a combination of gusty, northerly wind and low humidity that could cause fires to spread rapidly if they develop. a wind advisory from 8:00 p.m. tomorrow until 9:00 monday. winds gusting up to 50 miles per hour. i want to show you the fire weather index, indicating the increase in our fire danger by sunday afternoon.

the shades of yellows and oranges indicating high to very high fire danger in our inland, north and east bay valleys. please stay extra vigilant. i will be back with a forecast that includes that north wind clearing the skies in time for all of the events happening around the bay area. ama. >> yes. we are, of course, watching the forecast closely because it is going to be one of the busiest weekends of the year in the bay area. the free hardly strictly buegrass festival is back and so are the blue angels. you know that sound, the navy's elite pilots roared over the city today. this was first of three planned air shows for fleet week. thousands watched as the jets did high-flying tricks. they will perform again tomorrow as well as sunday. san francisco's watter front is the best place to see them, but "abc 7 news" reporter carlos saucedo found getting there isn't easy.

>> reporter: public transit is your best option if you are coming to the city this weekend. that's the message emergency officials are trying to get across. >> traffic in san francisco can be pretty bad, so take public transportation. >> reporter: with more visitors in town for fleet week and other city events, security is being increased. san francisco's emergency operations center has been fully activated. navy admirals even got a tour of the center this afternoon. >> we do have additional representatives here from some departments and that just allows us to work across the table with those representatives to have quicker communication. >> reporter: this means sheriff, police, fire and homeland security officials working in the same room to respond to any emergen emergency. to help ease traffic ferry services have been expanded to include an additional 14 rids saturday and sunday. more than double the average on any given weekday rode the ferry last year. if you are coming from the

peninsula on cal train, expect delays. starting this saturday, the agency is suspending weekend services into san francisco from the bay shore station to update the tracks. >> we are providing a bus bridge so we want to make sure people who normally make this commute can still get connected. should take about an haur ten minutes to 22nd and an extra 20 to up to 4th and king. >> reporter: a case of bad timing some say. either way, the trains are expected to be busier than normal. and b.a.r.t will also be running more trains this weekend to accommodate the larger crowd. if you want to check what your transit options are before heading out, make sure to do so. if you are going to be participating in flee weekend and want to get emergency alerts, text "fleet week sf" to 888777 and you will get messages on your phone. just text "fleet week sf" all one word and the number 888777.

katie utehs has more on the seeds of change. >> reporter: grandma keeps the former nursery lot clear of weeds while her grandson has a vision for its future. >> we will have the cannabis retail on this end. >> reporter: the budding entrepreneur is sowing the seeds for the cannabis nursery. >> it will be off the seeds of the plant, maybe pollen. >> reporter: the white way nursery has been in the family since 1984. >> i helped my father and mother way back when, starting at six or seven years old helping my dad. it is in my blood. >> reporter: cannabis wasn't in the cards until cancer took his grandfather and aunt. >> what got us into it was the passing of some of our family members. >> reporter: the nursery closed in 2014 when she died. she and kenny ran the business their parents started. now they're ready to go in a new direction. >> we come from a family of gardeners. i'm excited he has gotten the

green thumb. >> we want to have our nursery as a platform, educational platform if anything. >> reporter: there are plenty of zoning, local regulations and state laws that pose challenges. on october 9th, city council is expected to take up the issue but the family isn't waiting. they've constructed trellises and planted shrubbery to hide the cannabis cultivation from public view and will up security with 24/7 protection. if he gets the necessary approvals, he hopes to open around the first of the year. in berkley, katie utehs, "abc 7 news." the company that makes le croix is denying its sparkling water contains an ingredient using insect side. >> a class action lawsuit filed in illinois identifies it. the company calls the allegations false and defamatory. >> "popular science" magazine says it is a

ingredient. it is not poisonous to people. >> in the north bay will be one year since the deadly wildfire sparked golfers, fans and organizers of the safeway open in napa were caught in the middle of the disaster a year ago. the tournament is back and in full swing this weekend. "abc 7 news" reporter leslie brinkley has reaction from silverado country club. >> when the event ended as we know it was the scariest moment of my life. >> reporter: the executive director of the safeway open has pledged all proceeds from ticket sales this year combined with another $8 million will go to fire relief efforts. he remembers the flying embers as golfers were evacuated on the sunday night after the tournament concluded. >> so those little hot pieces of wood that were flying through the air at 70 miles per hour, when they landed they started fires. it wasn't flames. it was those embers. they hit, boom, fire. we lost two safeway semis you see going down the freeway with

groceries, we lost free lexus cu courtesy cars. >> it was a sad tragedy what happened last year. but to see the way the community bounced back, supported this tournament, supported each other, pretty cool. >> reporter: this year the only fires are in the fire pits. the golfers are laser focused on their game, but even they couldn't help noticing still barren, burned-out hillsides above the cool, manicured greens. >> thoughts and feelings you have this year, being here looking up at these his? >> yeah, it is kind of sad. very sad. you know, you get back around on the backside of the course, number 5 and 6, and there are five or six houses that i know, remember being there that aren't there. just the pools are there or something like that. it is just -- you know, it is really sad to see. >> we had massive rain two years ago, we are the fires last year, and i'm hoping this year we can get through this tournament and walk away saying it was a great year. >> reporter: bright blue skies,

73 degrees. the mornings will start in the 50s. as you look at a time lapse from our emeryville camera when the set was setting at 6:47, we saw high, thin, wispy clouds. it was a bufl sunset. the wispy clouds filtered the sun, and as we head into tomorrow we will see similar conditions with the exception of the morning. the morning will feature a lot of clouds. we have some right now. they're all in association with a system passing to our north and to our east. it is producing some showers in northern california and we're starting to see some mixed precip in the sierra nevada. i know it is okay bctober but w seeing some showers. it is still mild across the bay area tonight. it is that time of year, so woo take a look at the highlights. as we head into the weekend, it is going to be sunnier and warmer, increased fire danger, gusty in the hills. a little bit cooler the middle of next week. look at this gorgeous live shot. city hall in san francisco, red

white and blue tonight. i think they're getting ready for fleet wood festivities. saturday evening we are looking at sierra snow showers above 8900 feet. that continues through sunday morning and the activity tapers. behind the system, high pressure builds n as it does the winds are going to increase. so saturday night along the coastline it will be gusty and then eventually we start to see the winds increasing in the hills. by sunday morning, even places like fairfield, calistoga will be about 30, 35 miles per hour winds. the northern wind will dry out the atmosphere and they will pick up sunday night into monday morning which is why we have the fire weather watch and wind advisory in effect for the higher terrain and the fire weather watch for east bay valleys. tomorrow morning temperatures primary in the 50s, a few upper 40s. there will be clouds around due to the system passing through but the clouds will pull out and we will have a few high passing clouds for the afternoon. 77 in san jose tomorrow.
