>> announcer: good morning bay area. let's get up and get going. >> announcer: thb abc. 7 mornings. it's saturday. october 3rd. good morning and thanks for being with us. i'm chris nguyen. let's look at the forecast. here is our meteorologist lisa argen tracking the conditions where you live. it's beautiful out there. but we start with the fire weather watch into effect tonight for gusty offshore winds from the north and east bay hills. the winds could gust up to 5 a miles an hour already up to 30 miles an hour process mount tam. because that have fires could spread and the reason for it, the winds. they are kicking up today. the wind advisory from 8:00 through 9:00 tomorrow morning. already breezy on mount tam and mount diablo. we are looking for upper elevation winds to work down to the surface. and that could bring possible downed pour lines and trees.

in the next couple of hours we are in the mid-to upper 60s. but 2:00 mid-70s for some inland. upper 60s downtown. it's warmer for pretty much everyone. and by 6:00 we are fog free. 10:00, getting breezy. and more unthe fire weather watch we have delts and a look at seven-day forecast coming up. >> thanks. dwefrlg now after weeks of political bickering brett kavanaugh is hours away from confirmation to the supreme court. behind me a live look at washington, d.c. where senators were up all night on capitol hill. yesterday morning they started a 30 hour debate on a vote that's a sure thing. abc news reporter stephanie ramos joins with us the latest. good morning to you, is it stephanie. >> reporter: chris, good morning. unless there is a last minute development judge brett kavanaugh's confirmation to the supreme court will happen today. that vote is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. eastern time. now down are kavanaugh's confirmation would be a huge

victory for president trump. when he was on the campaign trail he promised to turn the high court more conservative. >> today judge kavanaugh is set to become the supreme court justice who tips the balance of the court toward conservatives. for decades to come. it's the most divisive confirmation for a supreme court nominee in u.s. history. protesters all over capitol hill demanding lawmakers vote against kavanaugh. but the protests and the fbi investigation into allegations of sexual assault against kavanaugh which he denies not enough to sway lawmakers. republican senator susan collins from me, the last undecided gop senator said in a 45-minute meticulously crafted speech friday she would roet vote to confirm kavanaugh. >> the presumption of innocence and fairness do bear on my thinking. and i cannot abandon them. >> leaving the capitol hill gop

senator jeff flake who demanded the fbi do its investigation makes clear he too stands with kavanaugh. >> i'm glad we had a better process. >> his colleague republican senator lisa murkowski of alaska breaking ranks voting no. >> i can't conclude he is the right person for the court at this time. murkowski plans to vote present instead of no today in place of another gop senator steve danes so he can attend his daughter's wedding. democratic senator joe manchin voting yes in the procedural vote and says he votes yes again today. now, protesters are back on capitol hill today protesting against kavanaugh's confirmation. now we have spoken with many republicans and democrats here on the hill and they are deeply concerned about the lasting impact from in fight here on capitol hill. chris. >> and what a week it has been. kavanaugh's main accuser

dr. christine blasey ford lives in the bay area. her legal team calls out the false claims spread to undermine her credibility. a lot of back and forth. stephanie what are they saying. >> well dr. ford's legal time teal calls the latest fbi investigation not meaningful. they say had the fbi interviewed dr. ford she would have been able to answer questions about judge kavanaugh's alleged assault, including questions the special prosecutor did not ask last week during that hearing. they have also said that they would have been able to provide corroborating evidence including a medical record and also a text message that apparently dr. ford had sent to a reporter telling her -- telling that reporter about the alleged assault and this happened, dr. ford's legal team says before judge kavanaugh was nominated. so dr. ford's legal team saying this is exactly what they could have provided to fbi agents and that's exactly what senate republicans say was missing from

that fbi investigation. but we are told from dr. ford's legal team she will head back to work so soon, spend time with her family and get back to her regular live. chris. >> as normal as it can be from this point moving forward. stephanie thanks for the live report. [ chanting ]. no facist be usa. no trump. abc 7 news was in san francisco as the political organization refuse facism and supporters marched on market street. criticizing president trump and his pick for the supreme court. oakland congresswoman barbara lee spoke in the bay area stopping by the commonwealth club in san francisco and spoke about the confirmation and what we can expect next. >> if and when kavanaugh is confirmed, i am certain we are going to move forward to investigate a lot of these allegations. and who knows where that he is going to lead. but we can't let it stop now. every woman deserves their voice

to be heard and to be believed. and so, you know, trust me we are moving forward. >> abc 7 news is staying on on top of all new developments in the kavanaugh confirmation. can you get a push alert send to your phone download the app. time is 8:06. new overnight oakland police arrested two people in connection with the shooting leaving five people hurt. the department tweeted this picture from the scene near 19th and telegraph before midnight. it's not clear what sled up to the shooting or the condition of victims. we bring you more as new information becomes available. also in the east bay oakland police are looking for the driver responsible for a deadly hit-and-run. it happened around 9:30 last night near 73rd and bang traffic was blocked for several hours as police investigated. so far police have not released a description of the vehicle involved. upon a lighter note it's one

of the busiest weekends of the year in the bay area. the free hardly strictly bluegrass festival is back and so are the blue the navy's elite pilots roared over the city yesterday with jaw-dropping precision. this was the first of three planned air shows for fleet week. thousands watched as the jets did high-flying trips and hair pin maneuvers. the blue angels perform today and tomorrow. san francisco's water front is the best place to see them. as abc 7 news reporter found out, getting there won't be easy. >> public transit is the best optionf the city this we could. that's the message emergency officials are trying to get across. >> traffic in san francisco can be bad. so take public transportation. >> reporter: with more joie de vivres in town for fleet week and other events security is increased. san francisco's emergency operations center has been fully activated. navy admirals even got a tour of

the center. >> we have additional representatives here from some departments and that just allows us to work across the table with those representatives to have quicker communication. >> reporter: this means sheriff, police, fire and homeland security officials working in the same room to respond to any emergencies. to help ease traffic ferry services have been expanded to include an additional 14 rides saturday and sunday. last year 24,000 passengers rode fleet week. that's more than double the average on any given weekday. if you are coming from the peninsula on caltrain, expect delays. starting this saturday, the agency is suspending weekend services into san francisco from the bay shore station to update the tracks. >> we are providing a bus bridge. we want to make sure people who normally make this community can get connected. it should take an extra ten minutes to 22nd and 20 minutes to get to fourth and king. >> a case of bad timing some way. either way the trains are

in the east by, a long time berkeley family hopes to revitalize the once bustling nursery with a new crop, cannabis. abc 7 news reporter. katie utehs has more on the new direction possible. >> reporter: the grandma keeps this former lot clear of weeds while her grandson has a vision for the future. >> we have the cannabis retail on this end. >> reporter: the budding entrepreneur is soing the seeds for the cannabis based nursery. >> or business model is off the clones and seeds and starts of the plant maybe even pollen. >> the dwightway nursery has been in the family since 1984. >> i helped my father and mother way back when. starting at 6 ob 7 years old. >> cannabis wasn't in the cards until cancer took both masao's

wildfires. golfers, fans and organizers of the safeway open golf tournament in nap aif were caught in the middle of the disaster last year. but the tournament is back in full swing this weekend. leslie brinkley has more now from silverado country club. >> last year when the event ended as we no he it was the scariest moment of my zblief the executive director of the safeway open pledged that all proceeds from ticket sales this year combined with another $8 million will go to fire relief efforts. he remembers the flying embers as golfers were evacuated on the sunday night after the tournament concluded. >> it's the little hot pieces of wood that were flying through the air at 70 miles an hour. when they landed they started fires. it wasn't flames. it was the embers. they hit, boom, fire. we lost two safeway semis you see going down the freeway with groceries. three courtesy car was be the suites behind number 17. the plastic you have for the

suites. as soon as it got near it went boom. >> it was such a sad tragedy what happened last year. but to see the way the community has bounced back, supported this tournament, suppored each other, pretty cool. >> reporter: this year the only fires are in the fire pits. the golfers are laser focused on the game but even they couldn't help noticing still barren burned out hillsides above the cool manicured greens. >> thoughts and feelings you have this year looking up at the hills. >> it's kind of sad. very sad. you get back ornd around on the back side of the course, number 5 and 6 appear there are five or six houses i know remember being there that aren't there. just the pools there or-like that. that's just -- it's sad to see. >> we had maffe rain two years ago. we had the fires last year and i hope this year we can get through the tournament and walk away saying this was great year. >> reporter: bright blue skies, charred hillsides. but no lights or sirens this year for nearly everyone at the

tournament, though, memories of the atlas peak fire forever seered in their mind. i'm leslie brinkley, abc 7 news. on monday abc 7 news will bring a day of special konchal to mark the anniversary of the north bay fires. can you find coverage here on television and on the website. ac7news.com. >> announcer: now the accuweather forecasts. hi, everyone. saturday morning and boy are we happy about the rain a few days ago because we have warmer weather and high fire danger ahead starting tonight. the winds gusty in the upper elevations. but mist and drizzle at sfo. delays there. and you can see the clouds raining up in the northern mountains. and we are looking for this system to push threw. as it does that provides the wind shift. but still a westerly component to the winds. you can see the fog over the city. a beautiful shot. but also notice the camera shaking. that's because the east bay hills, the winds gust to nearly 25 miles an hour. and stronger than that in the

north bay hills. so it will be a windy day above 1,000 feet. then the winds work down to the first. 52 in morgan hill. the cool spot 57 in san jose. and for mount tam, the camera is shaking here. partly to mostly sunny with 5 a in santa rosa. 57 in novato. temperatures average today but warmer than yesterday by at least five degrees. then we could go up another ten tomorrow in the 24 temperature change shows we are warmer a good four to nine degrees warm ner north bay. three to five degrees warmer in east bay. that leads to a warmer afternoon and i talked about the wind gusts. we are looking at gusty winds here. this is about 1,000 feet. and eventually the winds get stronger. so certainly concerned about that. and emeryville, nice and sunny out there. marine layer impressed. sunny and warmer this weekend, increased fire danger gusty in the hills and cooler middle of next woke. here comes the wind tonight. that's when the national weather service highlighted the time and

area for winds up to 30 miles an hour on the coast. here we are tomorrow morning and the winds have increased to their miles in napa, calistoga by the delta and in hayward. and will go at the winds still offshore sunday morning. the oakland hills there, 15 to 20 miles an hour. and evenly we look for winds to dial back. but still offshore monday morning it's still another warm day. so as we look aur our blue angels forecast 70s to mid-and upper 70s tomorrow. tomorrow certainly the warmer day downtown. today santa clara university, the girls' festival fork, 70s throughout the afternoon. a beautiful day there. and in the south bay, a few degrees warmer at 79 in morgan hill. 76 in sunnyvale. mid-70s on the peninsula. downtown, right where you should be at 70. we have 80s up in the north bay. temperatures here will feel warm up in a calistoga and santa 75 in sand leonardo an. inland still pleasen.

tech's defense. now, a couple of weeks ago they were exposed against odu they got upset but that was a wake up call. but foster said guys didn't make the adjustments he expected. game of adjustments with ian book at notre dame's quarterback, the quarterback position, i think that brian kelly can now go deep into the playbook. he is going to show bud foster personnel groupings and plays that they have never seen before. because ian book is actually a quarterback who can run and throw the ball effectively. so i think it's coming down to second half adjustments and the notre dame virginia tech game. >> it's been remarkable to see the which he has been able to spread the ball around, hit receivers in time and the way it transformed the notre dame offense. but will it in lane stadium? that's a tough venue. the crowd will be fired up tremendous day of for a football on abc. harbaugh and michigan against maryland. florida state and miami could the knolls turn the corner?

the 41st annual mill valley film festival starts this week. running the 4th through the 14th. enjoy a huge variety of movies at the internationally aclaimed event. general dmipgs arts at $16.50. kids are $8. on saturday singer emmy lou harris headline the hating streegt art center fund raiser for rocket dog rescue. the proceeds go toward helping us save hundreds of dogs and getting them placed in homes. rocket dog rescue was founded in 2011 to save homeless and abandoned dogs that crowded shelters who face euthanasia. tickets are $100. the skerpt starts at 7:00 p.m. process. and of course who can forget fleet week. the air show is this weekend. you will see the blue angels from every spot on the water front. but there are organized events like a barbecue hoefted by urban division or boat charters like the red white and blew fleet offering exkurkss to to see the air show. and if you are a dog lover check

with lisa argen. hi, everyone. saturday morning and subtle changes today weatherwise. and bigger changes tomorrow with the winds going offshore. a few upper elevation wind gusts have been offshore but mostly on shore component still. that's why we have the fog. and we are looking at that marine layer getting more compressed. there is a system that is moving through and in fact bringing rain to the north coast. and that wind shift for us later today. a live look outside. nice and sunny out there in parts of the bay. 59 in san francico. 56 in oakland. and 60 in mountain view. mid-50s pacifica and morgan hill and a live look from san francisco. and it's sunny but hazy out there. the winds are beginning to really blow this morning above half moon bay, mount tam and the diablo range. we're in the upper 50s to mid-60s by later on today it's getting gusty and the winds transitioning offshore. already, though, even with the on shore component and all the

mixing we are two to 11 degrees warmer. and we really have more still of a wind coming off the ocean. so as we look at the upper elevation winds they are gusty, over 20 miles an hour. near 30 mount tam. looking at still fog from the east i hills camera. this will dissipate lots of sunshine, pleasant temperatures today. warmer than yesterday downtown by at least five degrees. then we come up another five to ten on sunday. sunny and warmer this weekend. increased fire danger north and east bay hills. not cooler until the middle of next week. here are the winds tonight. 8:00 and look what's going on. anywhere from 15 to 30 miles an hour gusts to the coast. and then right into the sunday morning we're at 30 miles an hour in napa. calistoga. oakland, 25 miles an hour. and then still the offshore component through sunday evening, is a to 20 miles an hour for the north bay. east bay. and then by 9:00 monday morning, we are till offshore it's still breezy. it's going to take throughout

programs. m.a.p. recently purchased a new washer drier combination for those who work with the asian-pacific association family support services. in class is called learning through play. >> what we aim for them is to pick up early childhood lit ray see we sing rb read and talk and just try to teach parents to create the activities at home. >> in this area people and the family have many stresses. so stuff going on in the family and in the community, violence and a lot of drugs issue. and then for the kids if they sls to worry, like clean clothes, and other stuff, it will affect their school performance. >> she cofounded moms against poverty in 2008. she says the new donations allowed them to buy the washer dryer here and offer help to enou dor and a

foundation who saw the abc 7 news story last november which showcased the program at the fric academy in oakland. >> we learned a lot of children because of lack of hygiene, because clothes weren't washed at home, not access to the laundry facilities, they would skip schools. >> m.a.p. also buys personal hygiene items in bulk for those signed up for the program. >> some of the children they don't have hygiene products at home. epecially teenagers, they need that. and because of lack of it they get bullied. don't come to schools. they feel embarrassed. self-esteem goes down. >> with them having it here it's emergency. they can knock on the door ask for shampoo, conditioner, tooth brtoothpte sanitary napkins anything people need. >> she is is the leasen with

schools, churches and centers like this. >> there is a need out there. there is a lot of people in poverty. people that need help. and that's why we are here. >> they provide the deep freeze for us. >> we showed you last night that m.a.p. bought a treezer and filled it had high quality meats. the moms against poverty group wants to do the same thing for every center enrolled >> when a school comes and asks for nutrition outreach program and we don't have the sufficient funding to provide them what the children need, breaks our hearts. >> she gets reports from the m.a.p. program throughout the bay area and cross the globe including africa and cambodia. the notes bring tears to her eyes. >> one mother was so happy to get chicken she said she had not bought chicken in a long time because it was too expensive. >> that kind of gratitude makes the m.a.p. work harder. >> i want to really mention that we are ever so grateful for this opportunity, cheryl.
